Why I've been gone for so long...
Posted 12 years agoHey All,
Thanks for bearing with me; I know I've disappeared for 8.5 months without much of a trace. Here's a quick update as to what's been going on:
Last November I had an unknown intracerebral hemorrhage (bleeding in my brain) occur. The CAT and MRI angio-scans show that I now have a smartie-sized hole in the middle of my brain that's kind of leaning to the left, but is in the middle as a result of the bleed.
I don't remember much of November through January, though I do have a few brief "snapshots" of events that occurred between that time. My memory was getting better around the end of February, but it hasn't been until March or April that I can say I truly remember events. My memory capacity has nearly returned back to normal, but I do get the occasional lapses, mostly to names.
Anyhow, as a result of the delay, I am racing to catch up with respect to my dissertation, thus I hadn't come back online immediately. I'm still in the process of writing my dissertation, so I may not be posting as often until that's done with, however I will try and get some new things going, and comment more on others' art.
TL;DR - I went pop for no reason, and now I have a brainus that gives me brainfarts now and then.
Update: wow, everyone just dumped me and ran... yikes. Is it appropriate to contact them and say I'm back?

How can I find you?
I'll probably be in the dealer's den with
gishkishenh when I'm not giving my lecture.
What is your gender?
Assertive Female
How old are you?
Sounds like when you want water badly.
Are you nice?
I try.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Formal main-stream culturally appropriate greetings should be fine.
Do you do free art?
No, that cheapens it for the real artists.
Do you do trades?
I'll go with "yes" for now since I don't think this will actually happen.
What are you selling?
I'm not, my talented sister
gishkishenh is.
Do you do commissions?
Again, i'll go with "Yes" but I'm not very versatile outside my style.
Do you do badges?
Yes!! You can see them in my gallery, or on my herd's members. Prices vary by complexity.
Do you have prints/CDs?
Nope.
What are your limits to drawing?
Nothing above G - maybe PG violence, but that's it.
You look busy/grumpy. Can I say hi?
Highly unlikely that I will be, I'm probably just concentrating or pondering. Always say hi!
Will you have art in the Art Show? General or Adult sections?
Nope.
Can I touch you?
Treat me like I have ASD. Never assume anything, be blunt, and don't take any liberties.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
See previous answer.
Can I touch your friends?
See previous answer with a qualifier for my friends.
Can I talk about/do drugs in front of you?
you can talk so long as you are ok with hearing a lengthy, university style lecture as to the neurological underpinnings of drug use, addiction and damage. I do not approve of drug use in my presence.
What/where will you be eating?
Vegetarian.
Can I invite you out for food/fun/etc?
I will have to coordinate with my herd, so no personal offenses if I refuse! The invitation, however, is always welcome.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
i will have to check with my herd first.
Can I buy you drinks?
I love bubbletea.
Can I talk to you?
you will LOVE talking to me.
Can we hang out?
So long as it doesn't coincide with other plans, of course!
Can I give you stuff?
Only if it's truly altruistic.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
with permission.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
with permission
Will you be suiting?
Nope, but I will make it a point to wear clothing with Lions on it. I also tend to span my earbud chord across my front (from my pockets or my hoodie pouch)
Are you taken? Are you looking for a 'mate'?
IronMan tantalizes my heart, and I am smitten with Optimus Prime - what are your chances?
Can I visit your room?
Unfortunately one peculiarity I have is that I don't iike strangers in my personal territory.
Can I take your picture?
with permission.
What's your goal for the con this year?
To make my lecture interesting and enjoyable for the audience.

My Lecture at AC!!!
Posted 13 years agoBreaking news : I'm going to AC!!!!
Update on breaking news: I HAVE A LECTURE AT AC.
2 hour talk entitled "Animals as Symbols", a Jungian interpretation of animals in myth as identity representations or psychological processes. We're talking Lions, Horses, Bulls, Deer, Goats, Wolves, Foxes/Dogs, Snakes, Eagles, Falcons, Ravens, Swans/Geese, and all mythical counterparts Gryphons, Phoenix, Dragons, Unicorns and Pegasus - and more!!! I'm also trying to organize a hands-on session where I'll pass around artifacts with symbols and we can discuss.
SALUTE!

Badge Commisions
Posted 13 years agoSadly, my research funding has been denied. My loss is your incredible gain! I'm opening badge commissions in order to cover some of my graduate tuition fees.
Badges are done in the "alchemic" style, meaning both the caricature and design symbolism (any and all symbolism will be explained to the buyer upon completion of the badge). Colour and block-print line-work are extra, and can also be combined.
See this link for examples: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7738848/
Basic badge = $10
Add colour for $5
Add block-print line for $10 (this takes a lot of my time and eyesight)
Laminated = $1
Lettering can be done in both Aramaic (Hebrew) or Latin (English) text.
Fast turn-around promised! Note me with your request and with a (preferably clean) reference.

Book Suggestion
Posted 14 years agoThe problem with good books is after you are done with them, you're under the solid impression that there will never be another good book.
For what my fanaticism is worth, Alex Irvine is a phenomenal author. Granted, his story is prose not poetry, but what a story he can tell! Clearly, he does his research or is at least knowledgeable in the topics he undertakes. As a comic's writer, he brings a more scientific look to traditional themes. As a novelist he wonderfully integrates events and character action into a seamless story. Not to mention that he has the courage to touch upon a story that no one was willing to undertake, surely because of fear of fan retribution. He has created an iconic gem
Transformers: Exodus, and Transformers: Exiles are two books that you must read if you are into sci-fi, bots or not. I can only convey this story as Greek Society meets Buddhist Philosophy during Civil War.
Roll out!

Blah.
Posted 14 years agoSo today I started opening some of my Hannukah gifts - not open open, just taking some of the stuff out of the box. I'm not a MIB kind of person. I don't think these toys have real value outside of the emotional joy they bring. And I take care of my figures well enough they're mint either way.
Anyhow - TF Prime toys. I. Am. impressed. The character likeness is amazing, and not just the sculpt, but the transform as well. Granted this assessment is based solely on the Bumblebee and Starscream I opened. I'm going to open the others later because I'm making this last.
We (sis and I) couldn't find Bulkhead though. The back of Optimus' box said he was available, but no go here. Doesn't help that it's right after Christmas too, because it's going to be a bitca to find outside the interwebs.
Also, what is up with making Cliffjumper (who is in ONE pilot episode before getting killed of in the first 15 minutes, and maybe the 4 prequel comics) but not having Ratchet?! What fleshy earthling logic is this? I love my grumpy old medic bot. "He needs me, and I've come to need him as well" - seriously, how does that not melt hearts?
I didn't get the Ultimate Optimus Prime figure from the Dark of The Moon series. I want him. Bad. But I can't justify $100 on a toy, now. Even on sale, he's still $60. I need to get the promised cash flow going from the University before I go out and do something that risky.
The boredom made me write this - sorry for clogging your feed.

jet3270Christmas gifts
Posted 14 years agoSo I've already kicked off the Christmas gift art yesterday, but before I continued (or rather, finished) I wanted to take a census. Mostly because I wanted to make sure people actually liked the art I was making for them before I made it. I won't lie, it's trucking time consuming, and there's a lot of emotions involved, but more importantly I do not want to somehow offend/misrepresent/summon the apocalypse by doing so. I'm new here, so I'm not too sure what the faux pas is.
Is a nice rendition of someone's fursona in the Alchemic style of art preferable to a comical or general artful depiction, or vice versa?
When depicting someone's fursona in a traditional style, is it taboo to slightly alter their fursona to match the authentic depiction?
Does art look "cheap" if it's not coloured?
Thanks for the input,
~Lamasu

Jet3270WTF factor
Posted 14 years agoNow that my gallery is more or less up and running and I've left you to make a first impression, I'd like to say "hi" and totally annihilate your conception of me.
I'm very interested in Jungian Alchemy and the Campbellian model of myth. Most of my artwork will reflect this. Either that, or some bizzare anecdotal humour, I'm not too sure what compels me to share.
My WTF factor kicked in yesterday. Some guy at the Bibliocafe bought the coffee I was purchasing for me. I was actually getting my supervisor a coffee. When i told my supervisor, he asked me if the guy was cute. I said if he was, I wouldn't be handing him a warm cup of coffee right now.
see?
update: Apparently, I have commissions going? *looks at
Gishkishenh
$5 for a rough sketch
$7 for ink
$10 for a full color [badge]
$15 if you want a BG with it!
While this pertains to Pudgie Ponies, I'm also willing to oblige a more "alchemic" style of art (price varies according to creature).
Gishkishenh This is my siiiiiiiiistor who is so infinitely better at art she divides by zero (einstien/thor reference). Go see her and give her your money.
