Zubat/Golbat
Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume
Abra
Graveler/Golem
Hitmonlee
Scyther
Currently finished planning:
- Changes to Pokémon Types, Abilities, stats, movepools and evolution methods
-- Most Pokémon have been buffed, and all have been altered to make them stand out more
-- All trade evolutions will be changed into a different evolution method
-- All Johto evolutions will be available before the post-game (Hitmontop doesn't count, sadly)
- Changes to moves
-- A lot of moves have been buffed or otherwise changed to balance Types better
-- All Dark-Type moves will be Physical rather than Special, benefiting more Pokémon
- Changes to Type matchups
-- I tried to balance this as best as I could without making it completely nonsensical
- Reorganized Pokédex numbers
-- I changed the order to better reflect where the first member of an evolutionary line first appears in the wild (for example, the Rattata and Pidgey lines are now listed before the Caterpie and Weedle lines)
- Changes to Pokémart inventories
-- All TMs (except for one, which will be available via another method) will be re-purchasable
--- This means TMs are not reusable! I think this adds to their strategic value
-- Moon Stones and Sun Stones will be available to purchase, just like the other Stones
- Changes to in-game trades
Currently unfinished or partially finished planning:
-Changes to Pokémon Types, Abilities, stats, movepools and evolution methods (post-game)
- Most of the changes to Pokémon locations(only the fishing spots and post-game left to do)
-- All Kanto Pokémon will be obtainable, including all 3 starters, all fossils and multiple Eevees
-- 162 Pokémon will be available before beating the Pokémon League, and a lot more after that
- Changes to Pokédex data
-- Some entries have been finished, but most of them haven't been
- Changes to Trainer Pokémon
-- Planned changes to Gym Leaders and the Elite Four are finished; the rest are not
Currently finished progamming:
- none lol
This post will be updated once in a while to indicate progress. Thanks for the support and the patience!

Off to a great start...
Posted 9 months agoThis year did not start off well for me at all, because my previous PC died last month. Thankfully, I didn't lose any progress (I probably would've quit if that happened), but needless to say, I haven't made much progress since my previous post. I have a new PC now, though, thankfully.
I will be making a longer post later and pinning it; this post will be updated with new progress once in a while to show what's finished and what isn't. I won't update it daily or anything, but it should at least give you all a general idea of how far along things are with the project.
I'm gonna post another sprite sheet later to tide you all over, but nothing major will be posted for a little while after that, presumably anyway.

Small update
Posted 10 months agoHappy New Year!
Just posting this to inform people that I'm still alive. Now that the busiest months of the year are done, I should have more time to work on sprites! No promises on sharing anything anytime soon, but time will tell.
On another note, I brought up that I wasn't sure what to do with the Nidoking line in a previous journal, but I've now decided to just feminize them (like I did with the Hitmons). Still not happy with Venusaur, though...

Quick update
Posted a year agoJust letting you all know I'm still working on stuff. I'm holding off on sharing anything for now, because I only want to upload stuff I think is good enough (which often changes in hindsight, but still) and because I don't want to spoil all the sprites before the full release of the romhack.
I was considering uploading the sprites of all of the Starters, but Venusaur is just not okay. Short legs, a wide body, a wide head and a big flower on top does not translate well to what I'm trying to do, at least not in a 64x64 pixel space. I've got something done with it, but it just feels subpar, honestly. None of the existing Venusaur sprites let me do what I really want to with it, so I might just have to go largely (or even fully) custom, which is a problem, considering my limited artistic skills (if you could even call them that). Charizard is done, though, and as I said in my previous journal post, Blastoise got a small upgrade from the version I posted here quite a while ago.
For a different reason, the Nidoking line is one I've been putting off. I was originally simply going to cut them from the final version, but I feel like they need to be included (for the full Kanto experience, or whatever). The question is, do I do to them what I did to the Hitmons (which basically means I end up with 2 Nidoqueens in the end), do I turn them into hyper-masculine versions of themselves (which is not something I imagine most people reading this would be into, considering you probably Watch me), or do I just leave them as is (which would be pretty boring)? This is something I've not made up my mind about.
Anyway, progress is slow and steady. I don't have a lot of time to work on this stuff, and I'm pretty slow when I actually do. But I'm going to keep at it bit by bit until everything is finished.
On another note, how about those leaks, huh? I'm glad I didn't start on Rapidash yet because, oh boy. Also, Octillery, really? I guess that means they might actually like my Omastar sprite... (Then again, the beak might not be ideal.) The memes have been pretty funny, if a little disturbing at times.
Anyway, bye!

Update and plans
Posted a year agoHello again! Just posting to let everyone know I'm still working on stuff.
I guess it was easy to miss, since I kind of glanced over it in a previous post, but I just want to clarify that I am not currently working on any edits for Pokémon Emerald. Pokémon FireRed is the main focus for me right now. Sabs3 (https://www.furaffinity.net/user/sabs3/) is doing a much better job on Emerald than I ever could, anyway. Maybe one day, I will get back to that.
So, about FireRed. I've currently finished about 90 Pokémon sprite sheets, as well as a few trainer sprites. I'm going to keep working on those. It's still a slow process, since my perfectionism keeps telling me to fix edits I already once considered finished. For example, several of the sprites I've already uploaded have since been tweaked, and Weezing has been redone completely.
Other plans for the romhack include:
- A lot of changes to Pokémon stats, Abilities and movepools, as well as changes to moves themselves
- Changes to some Pokémon types (for example, Psyduck will be Water/Psychic, and several Pokémon will be part Dark, Dragon or Ghost type to broaden the type diversity, within reason)
- Changes to every included Pokémon's Pokédex entry
- A completely redone type chart that aims to be more balanced, without being complete nonsense. For example, Dragons are now weak to Steel, and Ice resists Dragon. Those are probably the most obvious changes, but there's a lot more; I've tried to keep them reasonable
- Changes to a lot of Pokémon locations (for example, more Water types will be available early on). Pretty much every Kanto Pokémon will be obtainable before the post-game (with some exceptions, like Mewtwo)
- All starters, fossils and multiple Eevees will be available in some way
- A select few non-Kanto Pokémon will be available to broaden the type diversity, which is normally pretty lacking in Kanto; Normal, Poison and Water types together make up nearly three-fifths of the normal Kanto Pokédex, while there's 3 Ghosts, 3 Dragons and 5 Ice types..
- All of the Johto evolutions (like Scizor and Kingdra) will be available before the post-game (Hitmontop is excluded, since Tyrogue was introduced in Johto)
- Changes to the Pokémon of Gym Leaders and other significant trainers (and possibly normal trainers as well), to make them more challenging and to make their teams more fitting for their type specialization. For example, none of the Elite Four will have not-fully-evolved Pokémon anymore, nor will they have duplicate Pokémon on their team
- Changes to in-game trades
- Changes to Poké Mart inventories, including selling TMs you can normally only obtain once
- Yes, this means TMs won't be infinite use
- Moon Stones and Sun Stones will be available for purchase, like the other Stones
I've already workshopped most of those changes (I really like doing that, to be honest), although editing all that in the actual rom is going to be one heck of a job, once I get to that point. But for now, my focus remains on sprites. I will most likely upload a few more before all of this is finished, but I plan to only upload the actual sprite sheets once everything is completed.
Also, reminder that I am (slightly) more active on deviantArt, just in case.
Thanks for reading, supporting me and being patient!

Progress Report
Posted a year agoHey, it's been a bit. Progress was very slow at the start of the year, but I've picked up the pace again. I'm now done editing almost half of the Kanto Pokémon sprite sheets. After that, there's still all of the post-game sprite sheets to do, as well as a lot of the Trainer sprites, so not nearly done yet, but we're getting somewhere.
In terms of the design of the romhack itself, I was initially planning to cut several Pokémon (like the Nidoking line and the Wigglytuff line) from the Kanto Pokédex to make room for the Johto evolutions (like Crobat and Kingdra), but due to a programming quirk that I can't seem to figure out, the game simply prevents those evolutions from happening regardless (until the post-game), even if you edit the Pokédex order. That, or the game just outright crashes. The only workaround I've found for this is to give the player the National Dex at the start of the game, at which point cutting Pokémon from the Kanto Pokédex would be pointless. Still figuring stuff out as I go, but it's likely that over 160 species of Pokémon will be available before the post-game.
Someone on deviantArt informed me about PixiEditor, which makes it very easy to resize my older work for the purpose of uploading (that was always quite a hassle before). So enjoy some older work from the Emerald project (which is still on hold, just a reminder), as well as another compilation of more recent work!
Finally, I'd recommend anyone watching me here to also watch me on deviantArt, as I tend to be more active there. Also, I currently have a poll running over there to decide which Pidgeot sprite edit I will be including in the romhack. Link here: https://www.deviantart.com/librechu.....prefer-8420980

A long overdue update
Posted 2 years agoSo, I've been gone for a while. I posted this on my deviantArt page a few weeks ago but I kind of neglected to post anything here for whatever reason...
I sustained an injury a few months ago that completely halted my progress. I haven't had to recover quite this long, thankfully, but it still took a while. I didn't really want to be active here without actually posting anything, so I've stayed away.
Anyway, after the recovery process, I had trouble getting back into the swing of things, especially with how big of a project I was working on. The scope of it is, unfortunately, a bit much for me at the moment. That being said, I recently started up sprite work again, so there's progress. I've decided to switch focus to work on FireRed instead, since it has significantly less sprites I'd need to edit and there's no animation sprites that need to match the main ones (which is one aspect of Emerald that's quite limiting). I figured this was a better way to get my groove back. Progress is slower than it was many months ago, but it's steady. (The Emerald project is not canceled, just postponed.)
I will most likely upload some older stuff soon, since I hadn't gotten around to posting everything before I disappeared. As for FireRed, I'll be uploading spritesheets eventually; I moreso want to make sure I keep working and don't drop out again. I've gotten a decent amount done so far and want to keep that going.
I'll be reading and responding to any and all comments left during my time away first, then I'll upload some stuff. Cheers!
