A Wonderbolts Ad?
Posted 14 years agoSo, I was replying to a journal from a fiend of mine this morning (yes Furtopia, I actually have friends) and just as I hit the send button I noticed the bottom of the page had an ad for some kind of Wonderbolts comic. No matter how many times I hit the refresh button, I cannot find that ad again. If anyone catches it, please link me the site. I'd apprieciate it.
I know FA has a page that lists all their advertisers, but I forgot what that was too.
For those that are not fans of MLP: FiM, first you should be and second the Wonderbolts are Equestria's top flying team out of Cloudsdale. They perform aerial flying demonstrations and spectacular stunts for all the ponies during special events. It is Rainbow Dash's dream to one day become a Wonderbolt.

Ungulates Represented Strong at MFF
Posted 14 years agoThis was a very strong year for my brethren, the Ungulates, at Midwest Furfest. I feel safe to say without hesitation that we have grown in popularity from the 5% that we have been stuck on for years. I will state for the record that the total amount of Ungulates in the Furry Fandom now has peaked to the 10% mark. This makes me very very happy. Ungulates United local 416 is well stocked with membership and we should be taking things to the next level I think.
MFF was once again a success and all-around fun convention this year. I could not believe the sheer number of hoofers I've seen walking around. So many new ones! We may not have had the annual "Amazing Ungulates" panel this year (which will be remedied next year for certain), but it was supplemented by not one but two Pony Panels.
We had two incredibly wonderful and fun My Little Pony panels at this con. In total from both, there were perhaps 300+ furries in attendance. Which I would caution to say it may have been the largest of topic panels dwarfed only by the headline shows in the grand ballroom. I will also say that out Pony Panel had more attendees than Uncle Kage's Science panel. Just think about that for a moment, the Ungulates have become more popular then the perennial celebrity of the fandom. Saying all of that I think that the Ungulate Revolution is moving along just fine and with surprising results as well.
Other Pros and Cons about MFF this year:
Registration is the suxxorz. I will strongly recommend a member of the Board for MFF should re-evaluate the system they use for registration. I pre-register online for my membership. Being a pre-reg, one should think it would be a simple process of confirming ID, getting your badge and your're gone. On Friday morning, when they opened up Registration, the process took an hour and a half to get through. Most of my Friday morning was taken up dealing with that and not suiting or doing other mischief. Please fix the registration process so it is more streamlined.
Scheduling events. I like Perro and am happy that he was selected to be the Chairman of the Board for 2013 MFF. However, I feel that he did not do such a good job organizing the Panels and Events. There were too many overlaps of things and scheduling conflicts. The board needs a better grid system of scheduling to create a better management of time.
Ungulates. Did I mention that I saw hoofers just about everywhere this year? It was so awesome! /)^3^(\
The numbers: 1,500 preregistrations, 2,600 attendees total and 550 suiters in the parade. Excellent numbers folks, keep up the good job handling that.
The hotel: meh. I'm still not overly happy with the hotel. Parking was not enough for a con of this magnitude plus another convention next door and regular airport transients. I really hate the escalators and multi levels of the con. Also wish there was more eating establishments within walking distance so you would not have to lose your parking space if you were hungry, on a budget and wanted to eat inexpensively.
Finally, I met a lot of very nice furs and made some new friends. Some of which immediately were moved into my "future ex-wife" category. Others became instant 'drinking buddies'. From the latter, I may be brewing up a few gallons of Mead for MFF 2013. More on that later.

Attending MFF
Posted 14 years agoI'll be there from Friday through Sunday. Just didn't have the flexibility to make it starting on Thursday this year.
To my Brony pals; lets love and tolerate the crap out of each other all weekend long. But don't forget we have an official meeting at 4:00 in the Rosemont A room. Bring cupcakes.
To my Ungulates: the next meeting of the Ungulates Unites local #416 will be conducted secretly, on Saturday. You all should already know the time and location. if not, you can get with me at any time prior and I will smuggle you the essentials. I will need your quarterly reports due from Q3 and action plans for the remaining fiscal year. Be ready to take the vote on our next campaign.

Censure in Effect
Posted 14 years agoJust a little note for my utopian friends out there. Seems my Censure is now in effect. So I shall not be posting there for an indefinite amount of times. I feel highly validated that my observations and challenges to the administration were correct. Their reaction was exactly as I predicted. Sure, I didn't give them any choice and their hand was forced, but that's the duty of a martyr. I take the bullet as others may now be brave enough to rise up against the tyranny.
So for those that reject censorship, abolishment of personal freedom and the the rise of autocracy in a system, then join my cause. Lets return the fun and humor to a land that was known for it, until recently.

Friendship is Banner Art
Posted 14 years agoFor the past few months, I've been a fan of a weekly podcast and blog site called Bronyville. It is hosted by Chef Sandy and Apple Cider; two podcasters in the "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" universe. If you have never heard their show, I highly recommend it.
Each episode runs about 80-ish minutes and they have 17 so far (the 18th will be posted in a couple days). Go to http://bronyshow.com/ to check it out, do it now.
Anyway, guess what these guys have done this week? They are using my own OC Pony on their banner art. I feel so honored and excited. They definitely lifted my day from just another dreary Monday afternoon into a magical monday or friendship and frivolity.
So once again, go to http://bronyshow.com/ to check out their Podcast and while you're there, take a look at their banner and you will see Liedt the Brony talking to another Brony named Quill Dipper. I'm going to cut this journal short so i can go run around outside while going 'squeee' to get it out of my system now.

Its not a Tramp Stamp
Posted 14 years agoIts a Cutie Mark!
I've recently returned from IFC, Indy Fur Con. This time I actually got to attend. For those keeping score at home; last year, I tried but was unable to. I purchased my registration online, but the Military decided to change my schedule and I had to go play soldier the weekend of the event. So I missed it, but let the staff keep my registration money as a 'donation' to the cause.
This year however, I made it with no problems. Arrived onsite on Thursday and tried to remain as active as I could throughout each day until I finally left Sunday evening. Met a lot of new good friends and had a pretty fun time.
Instead of just being another fur in the pile, this year, I thought I'd actually contribute to the cause; I hosted two panels. The Ungulates Unite panel (AKA Hoofer's Meet n Greet) and the Open Mic/Poetry Jam. I seemed to have bad timeslots for each of these, but still was able to muddle thought them. The Ungulate panel was well attended, about 8 or 9 were in the audiance. However, I was competing with a real Wedding Ceremony between my friends Leasara & Tincrash. Which is funny because I wanted to attend the wedding and the bride Leasara wanted to attend my panel too. The open mic was the last actual panel on Sunday afternoon just prior to closing ceremonies. So most furs were checking out of their rooms, or just getting ready to leave the con. My attendance peeked at perhaps 4, not a single person needed an instrument that I supplied either.
Couple things of note to the IFC staff: Dont forget to thank your GOH & His bride during the closing ceremonies! Yeah, you gave him the check for items sold during the art auction, but you forgot to formally thank him for all the art work done in the Program book and everything else. So next time, don't forget to give your nods to the people in the background that actually made the con what it was and not just the few standing on the stage as part of the official staff. Also, make sure you have panel Hosts for things on the program. I attended one panel with no host and subsequently no audiance after 15 minutes. If you can't find one, recruit for it. I know of at least one person that was 'on-call' with the programming staff head for just such an occasion.
Overall, it was a good con. I like smaller ones as its so much more laid back and I dont have to struggle through crowds. Its a young con so I expect some mistakes and faux pas to be made so all my critques get a pass. I look forward to next year and the following years to come.

Oath of Office and IFC Info
Posted 14 years agoI, Liedt, having been appointed an officer in the Army Reserves of the United States, in the grade of Second Lieutenant do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; so help me God.
Sworn to and subscribed this Sixth day of August, 2011
The above testimony is what I swore just a few days ago. After 18 months of training, drills, corrective exercises, and a high degree of stress with every situation I have completed something major in my life. From now until I finally decide to retire, I am an Officer in the U S Army National Guard. I was appointed to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and have already been given my unit assignment. A platoon of soldiers will be waiting for me at my new Company next month. This is a huge thing for me, thank you everyone that I have confided in during the past year and a half during these trials.
In other news, I have a couple minor changes regarding the two panels I'll be hosting at the upcoming Indy Fur Con this weekend:
The Ungulates United panel will actually be named "Hoofer's Meet & Greet" and the Open Mic panel will be listed as "Poetry Jam". I guess these were the original names of the panels before I took ownership of them. But my names and panel description didn't seem to make the bill. So I have no idea how they will be described in the program guide yet.
Therefor, if you are still interested in checking out the panels, look for those new (old) names for them. Content will be the same as previously described by myself, only the name have changed. So the Ungulate Revolution err I mean United will continue as planned.

Final leg for 18 months of training
Posted 14 years agoThis week on Friday the 22nd of July I and the rest of my OCS Class will be jumping on a plane and heading off to Ft Lewis, WA for the final phase of Officer Candidate School. This is the last of our training and will not be as tough as the rest of the stuff we've done for the last year and a half.
I will return late in the evening on the August 6th and on Sunday the 7th, we'll be commissioned as Lieutenants in the IL Army National Guard. My first assignment will be to the 1744th Transportation Company in Crestwood, IL as a Platoon Leader.
Then four days later I'll be leaving for the Indy Fur Con in Indianapolis, IN. So expect to see a lot of Gold Bars myseriously appearing on my Fursuit, badges and what-not during that weekend as I show off my achievement.
Speaking about the IFC, it is not official yet, but I might be hosting two different panels at the Con. The person I've been working with trying to the event put together hasn't replied back yet with the final okay, but there is a strong chance that it should happen. So if you're going to IFC 2011 next month from August 12-14th; look out for these two panels:
Ungulates United
Hosted by Liedt
This is a social gathering for all who like the Ungulate species or Hoofed Mammals. Come, meet and have a friendly chat. Whether they are living creatures like horses, antelope, llama or whales; mythological creatures like minotaurs, unicorn or satyr or extinct species like the quagga or bluebuck. We will also have a short audio/video presentation regarding the Ungulates and discuss the recent popularity of Ponies and Bronies within the fandom.
Open Mic
Hosted by Liedt
Liedt is a traditional folk musician from the Joliet area near Chicago. He will be bringing his Furry Fandom Filk songs and Hoofer Humor to help encourage others to take the stage. Each performer will have up to six minutes to share whatever they want, poetry, songs, stories; all the world is their stage. There are no auditions; just sign up. Please limit the content of the performances to no greater then PG-13.
If you are comeing to the the IFC event, please feel free to drop into either or both of the panels. It will be nice to have a little furtopian support since these will be my first Furry Panels I've ever done. I'll even show off my new shiney Lieutenant's bars during the show if anyone asks to see them. I'll update this with the time and dates as I learn them.

MLP FiM Episode Timeline
Posted 14 years agoAre you new or curious about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Have you tried watching a couple episodes but realized quickly that the episodes are a bit out of order starting from episode 1 and going on numerically to 26? Well, you're right, they are very out of order, timeline wise.
Fortunately you have your Brony pal Liedt here to help you out. After scouring the net for a proper timeline by episode I found a great source located at: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2.....lh-d3l2gvp.png
Using this I was able to come up with a Beginners guide to MLP episodes. Follow this episode numbering guide to chronologically follow along with all the gang in Ponyville.

Successful Phase II, OCS Training
Posted 14 years agoI just got back home today from completing Phase II. This phase was not as tough (physically) as the first, but it was far more demanding strategically. During this phase, we spent nearly 8 months of receiving classroom instruction on tactics, operations, strategy and basically "How to fight a war 101". My prior military experience really came in handy during this phase. I quickly became the "go to" person for the platoon and the Cadre were even surprised from time to time that I could pull out some tricks that even they didn't know about.
This past week, we spent training in the field performing a Strategic field Training eXercise or STX Lanes. There were 18 hour days, living in the field, putting 100% into each mission as we performed approx 5 to 9 missions a day depending on distance to objectives. An STX pulls in everything we've been learning in the classroom and puts it on a full speed high stress scenarios we must pass to be able to continue with the OCS process. Everything we use in an STX is carried on your back and only food, water and ammunition is brought in daily for resupply. Oh, and it was raining with Tornado and Thunderstorms for a good portion of it.
Now the good news; You're Ungulate Organizer once gain came out on top. After all the evaluations were completed, I scored the highest and performed the only near-perfect mission in this cycle. The Operation Order I received was dissected and disseminated with only one flaw, my terrain reconnaissance was better then what the evaluators could have done, and my execution of the mission had only one error made. So, I was only two errors total from a perfect run, which is something that rarely to never happens in OCS. I was pretty stoked.
With the completion of Phase II, I am now free and clear to go to Phase III and graduate this summer. I will be shipping out in late July, traveling to Ft Lewis, WA and returning the weekend prior to IFC. Then the following weekend, on the 21st of August, 2011 I will receive my commission as a Lieutenant in the US Army. It will be after a total of 18 months of training, a very long road to take for only a part-time job since I'll only stay with the IL Army National Guard at the moment. I'll report about how Ph III went later.
Dismissed!

I'll report about how Ph III went later.
Dismissed!
Away for Officer Training
Posted 14 years agoI will be away for the next 7 days conducting some Military Training for my Officer Candidate School. We are completing our Phase II cycle and I will be in the field pretty much all week. After this week, we return, have one month to prepare then ship out to our final leg Phase III at Ft Lewis, WA.
Everything is looking pretty well and in the clear with completing the program and with honors as well. So, pending any major injury where I will have to be taken out of the program, I'm looking at a graduation and Commissioning ceremony on August 20th, 2011.
I have already been to my new unit and introduced myself to the staff. I can't do anything official with them yet since I haven't been commissioned, but they will be waiting for me when I finish up things.
So take care everyone, I'll be back by next weekend. Any messages left for me will be unanswered until then.

Furry Mate launch
Posted 14 years agoSo, after getting a barage of e-mails, I thought I'd log in and see what all the hubub was about. Here is what I found:
#####
May 16, 2011 - 01:00PM PST
Wow guys! We've received such an incredibly overwhelming response from the community as a whole. So overwhelming in fact that we need to immediately upgrade our servers in order to handle the increased load.
We want to first apologize as we realize that everyone, including us, were very excited for this to be an amazing and seamless launch! We want to assure you though that we are working non stop on resolving this matter as quickly as possible and will be up with a new hosting provider within the next 24 hours.
Thank you all for your patience in this matter. Please feel free to follow us for updates on the following services as we will be announcing our progress as we go:
#####
So, this means one thing, there are a lot of Single furs out there looking for something to find that significant other out there. I think i may have my calling now. I will make it my life's mission to buy a Pub in some populated area, and make it Fur Friendly. So any furry can feel free to come in, enjoy a few rounds of their favorite adult beverage and do what comes natural to every patron in every pub across the world; use it to find their significant other.
So, who would come to my Fur Friendly Pub & Grill?

Manhattan Irish Fest: This Weekend
Posted 14 years agoPRESS RELEASE:
Manhattan Irish Fest; Manhattan, IL
March 4th & 5th, 2011.
You can find the entire schedule here:
http://manhattanirishfest.com/Directions.htm
I will be performing on stage with Celtic inspired Bluegrass players Brent James and Kevin Wright of the Righteous Hillbillies. We open the entertainment tonight at 7:00pm and tomorrow at 12:30pm. During tonight’s performance, no one under the age of 21 will be allowed. The entertainment tent is open for all ages Saturday until 4:00pm.
Where is Manhattan, IL? Good question. Best thing I can say is google it. Then find your favorite way to I-80 and take the Briggs exit, southbound, for a couple miles. You'll pass the Chicagoland Speedway which is the home to NASCAR in IL. If you don't see the track, you've gone the wrong way. There is no convenient public transportation to get there. They have a Metra train, but it has really limited rides.

The Chicagoland Irish Fest Season
Posted 14 years agoIn a couple of weeks the first of the Chicagoland Irish fests opens up in a small country town named Manhattan about 40 miles South-west from Chi-town proper. I have attended the last half-dozen of years there and its a real blast. The population basically double or triples during that weekend as everyone in the 6 counties of Chi-land come down to kick off the new season. This year the dates are:
March 4th & 5th, 2011.
You can find the entire schedule here:
http://manhattanirishfest.com/Docum.....ertainment.pdf
I was originally going on stage with Irish singer John Condron, but he will be out of town and had to cancel, so instead, I will be playing the Bodhran and back-up singing for Brent James and Kevin Wright of the Righteous Hillbillies. I tried to get them to temporarily change their name to the Reel Hillbillies, but didn't get them to agree to it. If anyone reading this is a fan of Celtic music, you'd get the pun.
Where is Manhattan, IL? Good question. If there was a bright side of the galaxy, Manhattan is the system farthest from (Star Was reference there). Best thing I can say is google it. If you don't see the track, you've gone the wrong way. There is no public transportation to get there.
Find a place to park, make your way to the Entertainment test, and look around. I'll be wearing green. I'll be on-stage from 6 - 8 on Friday and 12:30 - 2 on Saturday. The Friday show will be for drunkards only, no one under 21 is allowed. Saturday is open to all, but chances are, I'll still be drunk.

Rest well Brian, you earned it
Posted 15 years agoBritish author Brian Jacques (b.1939) died on February 5 of an heart attack. Jacques is the author of the novel Redwall and the subsequent series of books. A television series and various ancillary products about the series were also produced. In addition to Redwall, Jacques published three volumes in the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series and various short stories.
Many furries that I know came into this Fandom because of the stories Brian wrote which made them interested in us to begind with. Rest well Brian.

GOBBLER"S KNOB, PA: Groundhog Day, February 2, 2011
Punxsutawney Phil was raised from his burrow
By the call of President Bill Deeley.
He greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths.
After casting an inquisitive eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,
He proclaimed that the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl!
Back to the business at hand...
He surveyed his surroundings carefully and found that there was no shadow around,
So, an early spring it will be.

Snowmagedon Blizzaster
Posted 15 years agoIn my last journal, I advertized about a Furtopian get-together. Well, it is officially on a 'pending' status depending on the weather. For anyone in the Chicagoland area, you already know about the blizzard that is incoming.
Friday night will be our day of judgement if the event happens or not. So if you are planning on making the trek, keep an eye on my journal pages on Friday and I'll let y'all know if we're still holding it or not.
There are a couple furs traveling over 40 miles or more to get there, so I cannot ask them to make the trip if there is too much of a safety risk for doing it. Furmeets are fun but not worth the destruction of your car.
So in the immortal words of Paul Harvey, "Stand by for news!"

Winter Chicagoland get-together
Posted 15 years agoAnyone getting a little cabin fever sitting inside all winter long, not wanting to go outside in the cold and snow? Think you're ready to step foot, paw or hoof out the door and get-together with a few of the Chicagoland Furtopia members? Well y'all are invited to our dinner and bowling night in the northwestern suburbs.
If you've been to the previous year's MFF, then you know the area. Come for the food, stay for the fun.
This is a Chicagoland Furtopia Community event, but all are welcome and encouraged to attend. We were not able to get approval for fursuits so unfortunately, you'll have to leave them behind. However, tails and ears should be acceptable. These are small events, no more then a dozen friends, so if you've been considering going to a furmeet but the other local ones are just too large, then come on down and have a beverage or two with us and say hi.

Need someone with LJ access
Posted 15 years agoWhile I'm at work, our firewall here does not allow me to access the LJ community. And truthfully, I don't even have an account as I've never thought I'd need it. Until now.
I caught wind of someone selling a Hoof-boot that looks really neat and it would fit me too. Size is 8-1/2 womans and I wear a size 8 comfortably. I can correct a half size difference without a problem.
Can someone take a look at the following link and let me know if the product has already sold, or if not, what the going rate is, when is the auction over, what-ever you can find and either send a reply to this journal or PM me, please.
