Joined CARA. Although, I do have thoughts and reservation...
Posted a year agoSo I went and made a CARA account like everyone else is currently doing. I do encourage anyone who is using it to follow me there. I haven't gotten around to uploading anything yet, but I will.
https://cara.app/lightluxcollie/all
Here's the thing though. I do have some thoughts and reservations.
I think the site is nice enough. Obviously they weren't expecting a massive influx of people to join overnight. So it's been having some technical issues that they are currently working out. I get the feeling the people behind it are very genuine. I appreciate that and really honestly do hope it succeeds. It would be great if it did.
BUT...The problem is the same problem every new and previous artist website has faced. ONLY ARTIST JOIN! Meanwhile, the average userbase doesn't. Take Weasyl for example. I love Weasyl. It's one of my favorite sites. ...But it's a ghost town. It's only artist. Basically it becomes the Spiderman pointing meme, but they are all artist who are in competition with each other. Meanwhile the average user is still over on Instagram blissfully ignorant and doesn't give a damn about what's going on with the artist. If they don't join, then it doesn't matter if the site is popular for a brief moment.
The reason everyone is leaving Instagram is because it was discovered that Meta was scrapping it for AI development. Which should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. I'm amazed people are even shocked by it. Of course they were. Aside from that, Instagram is useless. The algorithm is evil and you basically get nowhere ever unless you pay to be bumped up. But even doing that is useless, because they only promote certain things. Half of your feed are suggested videos that you don't follow, but they know will get views. It's a useless site and I wish people would join sites like CARA. Unfortunately I just don't see that happening. So again, I'm joining. I encourage you to as well. I hope this is one of the rare occasions where average people join too and it actually does become a successful competitor to mainstream social media.
...But, I'm not holding my breath. That's all I'm saying.

Making My Way Back (Update)
Posted a year agoLet me just start by saying. I’m feeling much better and thank you so much to those of you who wished me well during this time. I’m sorry for the radio silence, It was just necessary that I take whatever time I needed to realign myself.
Some clarifications
I just wanted to clarify some things. I apologize if I made it sound like it was because a couple people criticized my art, that I fell apart like that. That’s NOT what happened. Please understand, I have had many other things going on in my life that I don’t share with people online. I don’t think I have to remind anyone that life sucks. This past month in particular, I found myself suffering in more ways than one. Pushing me into an extremely vulnerable state. So when people decided to throw some negative critiques at me, it hurt more than usual. The best way I can explain it, is to metaphorically picture me half dead while bleeding out on the ground do to completely separate circumstances. Only to be followed by someone coming along and kicking me in the stomach while saying “Oh BTW, your art sucks.” It was more like the finishing blow/cherry on top to an already crappy situation. IT WAS NOT THE CAUSE. It just pushed me over the edge emotionally at the worst possible moment. I just feel like I need to clarify that, because it seemed most people felt I was being overly sensitive to a generic internet critique and I’m sorry if it came off that way.
Either way, I’ll try not to let it happen again.
My current state.
Fortunately, I’m feeling better. I really used this time to recuperate and rest and I think I’m about ready get back to it.
But here’s the thing. I will be making a bunch of changes moving forward.
What’s changing?
Since I posted that last update, I’ve been struggling to figure out what I wanted to do and after giving it considerable thought, here’s the plan.
First, I’m shifting gears and putting a much greater emphasis and focus on animation.
This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but could never find the time or energy on top of everything I was already doing. So starting next month, all three of my comics will now be limited to one update per comic each month.
Personally I wish I didn’t have to do that, because it will slow down the progression of each story considerably, but it’s better than not continuing them at all, which is my other option. I do still have much to tell with each story and I want to tell them. I’m also hoping that maybe doing limited updates will help me to increase the quality of each new page or strip. My characters aren’t going anywhere, I will certainly be using them in my animations and I’m hoping to bring them to life in ways I couldn’t before.
Commissions
I will be returning to doing Wednesday commission streams starting this week.
Here’s the deal though. I’m going back to doing ONLY 4 slots per stream and I will ONLY be doing single character commissions. No more multi character or sequences. It was way too much and it nearly broke me.
I will also be completing any commissions on the same day as the stream. If you are familiar with what I was doing before, I would do sketch commissions during the stream. Then I would accept color commissions separately. There was a reason for this, but for the most part all this ever managed to do was create a major backlog of commissions that I was chronically struggling to catch up on. It also caused me to feel extremely guilty, anxious and stressed out every time I would be working on my own projects or comics while the commissions were incomplete.
Needless to say, I’m not doing that anymore.
I will be doing sketch and colors in the same stream on the same day. So if you just want a sketch. Then just get a sketch. If you want a colored or fully rendered image. That’s a decision that should be made prior to the stream when you send me your request.
The only exception is if you are present during the stream and you decide you like a sketch and would like it colored. You can let me know during, but not afterwards.
Another thing.
I’m taking back some control in regards to my creative expression and freedom.
I don’t mean to come off as an A-Hole or extremely controlling, but please understand that artist need some freedom to work. So I’m laying down some firm ground rules that I’m hoping will not be too difficult to understand.
To start, no more changing large details mid stream. Especially once I’ve started coloring. Do not nit pick me. I am an artist, so please respect my interpretation of what I’m drawing.
Don’t like how the drawing turned out? Fine. Then you wasted your money and you don’t have to buy another one.
If you are asking me to draw something in a very specific way or style that takes away any creative freedom that I might have as an artist, then please do not ask for one. Go get Chat GPT or some other AI to make that image for you. Because I’m not letting people control me anymore.
Let me put it to you this way. Let’s just say hypothetically I went to legendary animator Don Bluth and commissioned him to draw me an image. It would be pretty stupid for me to ask him to draw a character in someone else’s style when I could get an image done in his legendary unique style.
Now I am in no way comparing myself to Don Bluth, that’s not the point. The point I’m making is that sometimes the uniqueness of an artist holds more value.
I recently had a person ask me to draw multiple characters from a certain show. So I set about drawing them in a way that I felt was a little more my style and a little more interesting. Only for them to complain half way through the image, that they wanted them drawn exactly how they look in the show. Forcing me to scrap the image I had already made and start over.
Am I saying I was unable to draw the characters like the show? Of course not! I can and I did. That is not the issue. I just want people to please respect what decisions I make as an artist and please understand what you are getting when you commission me.
Be as detailed as possible with what you specifically want in your image when you put out your request. Because once I start, it’s out of your hands. It’s going to turn out however I interpret it.
Regarding Patreon.
For those of you who stuck around, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I greatly appreciate your continued support.
But I am making a few changes here as well.
First off, I will be stopping the suggestion box and streams. All it ever really did was double my art workload and exhaust me beyond measure. So I am sorry, but I will be stopping that moving forward.
Patrons will still receive early access to brand new comic pages before everyone else and in addition, 3 dollar tiers will now get to see WIP’s for any animations I’ll be working on in the days to come. At this moment, I’m still brainstorming some additional rewards for the 5 dollar tiers. So please bare with me while I figure out what to do there. Or if you have an idea, let me know. I’ll consider it.
Aaaand that’s about it. I’m sorry if that was a little long. It was all stuff I needed to say and do. Thank you again for your love and support. I hope this all made sense.
Love,
Light Lux Collie

Where I've Been (Why No Updates)
Posted a year agoIf it feels like I dropped off the planet these past couple of weeks, It’s because I have.
I’m not going to sugar coat it. I’m suffering.
I don’t even know how to word this. I reached a point of burnout, but that’s really not the issue. I’m just demotivated, unhappy and frustrated. So much so I don’t know when or if these comics will return. I’m suffering emotionally, financially, physically and relationally.
Then to top it off, I have some people randomly comment their criticisms of my comics, right as I’m just barely crawling my way back. I get that I suck at everything I do, but I did not need this right when I was about to pull myself back.
So will the comics be back? Honestly, right now I don’t know.
I’m just currently trapped in a cycle of depression, despair and hopelessness.
I have never been a fan of sharing personal emotions online, because it almost always backfires and is like a drop of blood in a shark tank. Me writing this will probably get me more hate than sympathy, but I still need to let people know what’s going on and why there’s no comic updates and why I’ve been radio silent.
For the past month, I’ve been contemplating stopping all of the comics and maybe just giving full animation a try, but now I’m not even sure I want to do that because of how much my art sucks.
Give me another week and maybe I’ll have an answer of what I’ll do next. I pushed and tried so hard to get people to like these comics and my art, but I failed miserably. They aren’t good.
Anyways,
Just thought I’d share that.
Welp, It's Official...

Faye Drive Canceled
Posted a year agoSomeone was super generous to give me the needed money on the basis that I didn't draw what I was going to. Thank you to everyone who made pledges, but I won't be following up on that. Perhaps we will do another drive sometime soon with better conditions.
Sorry for anyone who got their hopes up.
And a super special thanks to the individual who gave me the needed funds.

Happy Easter!
Posted a year agoI hope you all have a blessed one on this holiest of days.
I wish I could have made an Easter image this year, but unfortunately I'm fighting burnout again. I might have to put all my comics on a hiatus for the month of May. I'm not sure yet. We will see where I am at the end of April. If you are still waiting for your commissions to be colored. Thank you for your patience. I will try to have them done soon. Again I'm sorry for the delay.
Anyways, Happy Easter!

Temporary Comic Hiatus For December
Posted 2 years agoHello Internet Family!
I sent this out in an email, but I just want to make sure everyone is aware of what’s going on.
You may find yourself wondering, where is this weeks comic update?!
I'm sending out this notice to let everyone know that for the month of December, I am putting all comics on a TEMPORARY Hiatus. With the exception of the usual Christmas comic.
Why am I doing this?
Multiple reasons. Not to bore you, but starting sometime back in September, I fell way behind on things do to personal issues out of my control and after struggling for 3 months to catch up, I found it near impossible to do so. When I finally did catch up, I had entered a state of complete burnout. A sign that it was time to take a break. So that's what I'm doing.
But here's the thing. That's NOT the only reason I'm doing this hiatus.
After reevaluating my current system, I realized that it's time to change how I go about making comics. So I've decided to take this month, to work on next months comics. That includes Walk With Me, which I will be returning back to a consistent post schedule. This way, I can post each comic on their usual release days, while I work on the next batch.
But wait, there's more!
I am also using this as an opportunity to try something completely new. Something I think you will really like. I just want to test it out and see if it's maintainable before I fully commit to it. That's part of what this hiatus is all about. I don't want to ruin the surprise, but if it goes well, you can look forward to this at the start of the new year. Consider it a belated Christmas gift.
Thank you for patience and understanding. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. Like I said, I'll still send out a Christmas comic this month.
Until then,
Woof!

Godzilla Minus One Review (MAJOR SPOILERS!)
Posted 2 years agoWarning! The Following Contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Godzilla Minus One. If you have not seen it yet and you are planning on seeing it, DO NOT CONTINUE!
Go see it first, then come back and read this!
If you have seen it or you just don’t care about spoilers, READ ON!
…
My God!
Where do I even start?!
First let me start by saying, this is one of the best Godzilla films I’ve ever seen. The director of this film should be proud. He’s did right by Godzilla and G-fans everywhere. Honoring what came before him. This movie, is in my opinion a big giant double barreled middle finger to Hollywood, Disney and every other company that has forgotten how to make art in the past 10 years. No agendas. Just an overall great movie. And it only took them 15 million dollars to make. Unlike Hollywood which has all the money in the world and can only produce dumpster fires.
I will say, my one and only complaint about this film is Godzilla screen time. I felt he needed much more, BUT!…I feel they completely make up for it, because they went for quality not quantity. Every time he does show up, it’s so good that it makes you want more of him. That’s it. The rest of the movie is fantastic!
I won’t talk too much about the human drivin story line here, but I will say it is probably without a doubt the best human storyline in any Godzilla film. Traditionally I normally would have said that I don’t care that much, just get to monster, but this movie wrote a fantastic human element that makes you really care for the characters and gets you emotionally invested in them in ways that no other Godzilla movie I’ve seen has done before. The themes that exist, such as rebuilding after loosing a war, survivors guilt, cultural shame for not honorably committing suicide and the process of overcoming that pain. As well as piecing together a family out of broken people. There are also some jabs at the Japanese government and how they failed their own people during WW2 and how the people had to ban together to form a plan in order to solve a crisis, without the help of the government. It’s a very similar critique to what is seen in Shin Gojira. When they kind of attack how badly the Japanese government failed to solve a major crisis do to bureaucracy getting too much in the way. Needless to say, the characters are great. It’s some of the best acting I’ve seen in a Godzilla film.
So wasting no time, Godzilla shows up pretty early into the movie. What I love about this is that it’s so on the mark with what we know about Godzillas traditional origin. His first appearance in the movie, he is exactly what he’s supposed to have been described as in the original 1954 Gojira. He’s a living fossil sea dwelling dinosaur like creature that’s a cross between a land dwelling and deep sea dwelling animal. And just as his original origin, he emerges none other than on Odo Island. When we first see him, he’s more of a dinosaur like animal, but still a monster. Which is such a great callback to seeing him as a dinosaur in the Heisei era Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. It was confirmed in that particular movie, that Godzilla was created by the H-Bomb test that was conducted on the Bikini Atoll. Minus One, further confirmed that, by not only showing the Bikini test, but a brief scene of Godzilla being burned by the nuclear fires. Which was freaking awesome! Oh, and strangely enough this is the first time we’ve ever really seen Godzilla eat people! Which I was not expecting at all. Well, he didn’t exactly eat people, as much as bite them and discard the bodies. He behaved like a true dinosaur in the early part of the film. Which was so interesting, because I’m pretty sure it was always one of the rules laid out by TOHO for American Godzilla movies, that you could never show Godzilla eating anyone. This movie however seemingly discarded that rule, but not really, because he technically didn’t eat, eat them.
Another great thing about this is that if you’ve ever seen the original movie, it was kind of always implied that the monster was named after the legend that existed on Odo island. This movie however, kind of made it so that the Gojira we see is in fact the same Gojira that brought about the Odo island legend. I hope I’m writing that in a way that makes sense. The natives on Odo island tell the military men about Gojira. That he occasionally comes up from the depths and torments them. What’s interesting is this is all before the atomic test. So basically, he’s already an ancient monster that exist. Not just a legend that then lends its name to the eventual atomic monster. So he’s already a menace, but then things get so much worse when he is blasted by an H-Bomb and becomes an unstoppable nuclear force.
One very well known thing about Godzilla, is that he possesses unbelievable regenerative abilities. It was even was giving a name in the Millennium movie Godzilla 2000. Calling it Organizer G-1/Regenerator G-1. We know he can regenerate. We know he’s invincible. …BUT! This movie is the first time we have EVER seen Godzilla regenerate in real time on screen! AND IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING! What was clearly an homage to Jaws. Our main characters manage to get him to swallow a mine. Then use a machine gun mounted on a crappy wooden boat to blow it up while Godzilla is chasing them. GRAPHICALLY blowing up Godzillas head and seemingly killing him. …For about 5 seconds, because this Godzilla immediately regenerates his head and proves why he is indestructible. It’s a scene that throws you off, because you aren’t expecting it.
When Godzilla finally makes landfall and you hear the traditional Akira Ifukube theme. Nothing makes you more excited to see Godzilla level a city, than that theme right there. You can’t call it a Godzilla movie without Akira Ifukube music. That’s the thing the Legendary movies need to get their ass in gear on. I know they did a variation of it in King Of The Monsters, but it’s just not the same. They invest millions of dollars into Hollywood movies. If it’s a licensing issue, JUST FREAKING PAY TOHO FOR THE LICENSING FEE! It’s worth it to have that music!
Notably when you hear the emergency radio announcement, it’s the exact same radio announcement from the original movie. Some other references are him attacking the train and the news broadcasters on the building willing to die in order to bring people the news in real time. As well as him destroying the clock tower. One thing they really show in this movie is him stepping on and trampling people. Something most Godzilla movies never really address.
Then there’s the Atomic Breath!
This is by far the most OP atomic breath we’ve ever seen from Godzilla. I thought it would be hard to top Shin Gojira, which is still top 3. But this Atomic breath can only be described as a literal Atom Bomb. Every time he uses the breath, he’s basically firing a full on Atom Bomb. You see the mushroom cloud, nuclear fallout, the works. The way his spines protrude out of his back when he’s charging up is so unique, just such an awesome sequence!
One thing that I really love, is how creative Japan is at coming up with ways to defeat Godzilla. If this were Hollywood, they could have just as easily recycled the plot line from the original movie and killed him with the Oxygen Destroyer. Which would have been fine, but the Japanese are way too smart to recycle old plot lines. Like how in Shin Gojira, they came up with a crazy plan to freeze him with a blood coagulant. In this movie, they use a very unorthodox method to destroy him. As they choose to use the extreme pressure from the ocean to kill him. Essentially giving him the worst possible case of the Bends. Rapidly sinking him and using inflatables to bring him quickly to the surface in the hopes that the pressure from the ocean would destroy him.
While executing their plan, you get to hear the music from the 1962 King Kong vs. Godzilla. Which I thought was a nice touch. Godzilla manages to break free and surfaces and he is badly damaged from the immense pressure. He comes up with all white eyes. Looking like a much more terrifying version of the Godzilla from GMK. When it appears the plan is a failure and Godzilla is about to blast their ships. The main protagonist of the film comes swooping in at the last minute in his plane with a planted bomb aboard and slams into his mouth. Ejecting at the last minute and detonating the bomb. This time completely blowing up Godzillas head, while his body falls apart into pieces, sinking into the ocean. Again, very reminiscent to GMK. (I suspect the director is a big fan of GMK. Lots of references.)
As the movie concludes and Godzilla is blown to bits. The day is saved! Thanks to a disgraced kamikaze pilot. …Or is it? Like I said. Godzilla is invincible. We then get to see this big chunk of the destroyed Godzilla falling to the bottom of the ocean. Except, just like before. We are watching it regenerate in real time as the Akira Ifukube theme starts playing. Again, a scene very reminiscent of the ending to GMK, where we see Godzillas beating heart in the water. Godzilla cannot be killed. There are only two times, we ever actually see Godzilla die. That is in the original 1954 Gojira, where he literally turns into a skeleton. And Godzilla vs. Destroyah, when he melts down. But even in those instances, he eventually comes back and in Destroyah, his legacy lives on in Junior. So we can’t say he’s ever really truly gone.
And Don’t YOU DARE say “But what about the Matthew Broderick Movie? Didn’t he die then?” THAT DOESN’T COUNT! That’s not the real Godzilla!
Anyways, what would I rate this film? 10 out of 10. Great movie! If you haven’t seen it. I don’t know why you are reading this spoiler rich review, I encourage you to go. It’s well worth it.
Go see it first, then come back and read this!

Stream Moved To Thursday + Temporary Comic Hiatus
Posted 2 years agoI do apologize, but I am beyond exhausted right now. After falling behind these past 4 months do to some personal issues, I've been desperately trying to catch up. When I finally caught up with commissions, I was so burned out that found myself unable to sit down and focus on any of my comics.
So to remedy this, I will be moving this weeks sketch stream to tomorrow (Thursday, Nov 30th) And I will be putting all my comics on a week long hiatus. Maybe longer, depending on how I'm feeling.
I really need some time to recalibrate my schedule, but I also need some time to draw art that I want to draw. When you are only doing commissions and never drawing anything for yourself, it's very demotivating. So I need to figure out a better schedule and system to allow myself to do that.
I'll still be doing commissions and sketch streams like usual. Just to be clear. It's the comics that are going on a temporary hiatus.
I hope that all made sense. Thank you for your continued support as always.

Sketch Stream Will Be On Thursday This Week
Posted 2 years agoI'm just letting everyone know. This weeks sketch stream will be on Thursday November 2nd. Not Wednesday like it usually is. I'm doing something that night and I won't be able to do it.
I will however be doing a catch up stream throughout the day on Wednesday, because I've fallen so behind. That'll probably start around 11-12am ish Arizona time. Going to try and finish up all the commissions I owe people.

Change To My TOS Regarding Sketches.
Posted 2 years agoOk, so after an individual who I will not name here, (I'm NOT mad at them.) had told me that they had started coloring a sketch that they had recently commissioned me to do for them. I had to do some thinking as to what my policy moving forward would be regarding things like this.
This was already part of my TOS, but I want to make sure it is clear and understandable that no alterations can be made to an image that I produce. (With the exception of cropping for an avatar or icon.) Unless it is a paid for alteration that is done through me. No other artist may make alterations to my work without permission.
This includes, COLORING IN MY SKETCHES. If you wish to have a sketch colored. You must do it through me. Otherwise, don't color it at all.
I realize that won't stop some people from trying, but this will be a part of my TOS from now on.
I apologize if I come off as the A-Hole here. But I do feel like it is necessary to clarify this.
Thank you for understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions I can clarify.

I apologize if I come off as the A-Hole here. But I do feel like it is necessary to clarify this.
Thank you for understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions I can clarify.
