Role reversal musings
Posted 10 years agoSo I've got a Commissionr account and I was thinking about how the current artist/commissioner relationships tend to work on most art sites.
Usually, the artists display their wares, put out a line when they are open, and the buyers come to them. This is all well and good for artists with a decent amount of exposure, but I think it's pretty much an inversion on how the rest of the market outside the furry world operates, and there are times where they buyer doesn't always know what they want, even though they know they desire something. The current furry commissioning model also makes it harder for artists that are just starting out, or if their current following is tapped for cash due to conventions, school, etc.
The beauty of Commissionr is that it operates in both directions, for both artists looking to fill their queue and for buyers that have at least an idea of what they want, or at least that they want something and a price range they're willing to pay. Of course what the buyer is willing to shell out versus the artist's valuation of their time and effort will always be a point of contention, but that's more on the buyer to be flexible and open to pitches outside of their normal range, especially if they browse the artist's gallery and like their work. However, the site is still in beta and the pool of artists and buyers is going to be smaller until it catches on.
Hell, I've been tempted to make postings saying "Here's my refs, this is what I'm into, here are the refs of some other furs I've had pieces with or want (and have permission to get) pieces with in the future, and here's what I'm more than likely not wanting to exceed in spending for the month unless you feel that you can blow my mind. I lack ideas on what I want, so pitch me concepts (stick figure visuals are a plus!) and the pricings behind them."
Any ideas from my current following on how to improve prospects in the reverse?

As long as you don't smell like death warmed over or aren't drenched in sweat, and have at least made your presence known beforehand. Otherwise, I tend to reflex towards striking body blows if I'm touched/groped unexpectedly. >_>
Can I visit your room?
See the section about touch. If you sneak into my room unannounced, be prepared to fly out a window. :D
Can I buy you drinks?
Just no roofie-coladas, beer, red wine, or anything licorice-flavored (Jager, Ouzo, Absinthe). Cider and sweet drinks go well with this bear-thinger!
Can I give you stuff?
As long as it's not the bill, or roofie-coladas...or death sticks. :D
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
I am not opposed to either of these things, as long as you still fit the criteria of "Can I touch you?" and it's not like a steam room.
Are you nice?
When I want to be. I tend to be a bit of a flirt/tease without thinking about it though. :D
Will you be going to parties?
No clue. Maybe, maybe not. We'll see!

Talking is a good first step. I'll answer to 'Andy'. If all else fails, give the sign of the nose-antlers (thumbs covering the nostrils, fingers up, spread out, and wiggling!), and I'll know it's me you're wishing to speak to. (As well as giving all those around an entertaining spectacle to behold, especially if you're in a fursuit)

Hotel is the Omni, and I've already got both beds claimed by myself and the first dude that jumped on the deal. He'll be bringing an air mattress if you or I don't feel like sharing a bed, though you'll be the one on the inflatable. :D

Posted 12 years agoGod damn I hate when my on-call rotation comes up. I like sleeping through the night without having to worry about someone overseas who can't figure out why someone's server stopped working calling me and me possibly sleeping through the phone ringing.
Thankfully the second week of the rotation is as a backup to this week's poor schmuck that has to deal with the potential ineptitude. :D

Raising it doesn't do any good, as the price of goods and services will only rise to meet the new minimum. We lack the scarcity to make the little pieces of metal, green paper, and plastic in your wallet worth any more than they already aren't. A million of nothing is still nothing.
Abortion?
The contents of someone else's uterus has nothing to do with you. There are already over 6 billion people on this planet, and we're not in danger of that number drastically being reduced because people decided to do the smart thing and not bring a child into the world before they felt they were ready to do so. The foster care system is clogged up with enough unwanted children as it is, and there's a good chance those children that don't leave the system via adoption before they grow up will end up back in the system via prison.
Legalization/Decriminalization of Drugs?
If people really want to destroy their minds and bodies, they're gonna find a way to do it. As long as they don't put other people in danger, then why try to stop it? At the same time, why not try to make a bit of money off of it in the process and eliminate the need for the black market? We do it with alcohol, tobacco, and prescribed medications, so why not everything else? It doesn't stop employers from proscribing certain behaviors in their staff, so the worker productivity argument doesn't fly either.
Same-Sex Marriage?
Why is it anyone's business but the committed couple as to how they want to live their lives, file their taxes, and handle their medical Power of Attorney and estate when they eventually die? Nobody's forcing you to get married to someone of the same sex if you don't want to, and it has zero impact on your day-to-day life unless you're the one at the county office that prints, stamps, and files the marriage licenses in the system, or you're the wedding planner. Either way, you're seeing more income from the increase of legally viable couples waiting to get hitched.

Where I've been the past couple days
Posted 12 years agoSo yesterday I get a call while I'm at work. A tree limb fell and ripped the meter box off the side of my house.
About 36 hours and $2500 bucks later, I've got the tree limb removed, electricity restored, and I still need to get the sagging co-ax cable tightened up and out of the lawn.
Holy shit that sucked. >_>
