I am back!
Posted 5 years agoKind of.
Nothing has been deleted from this account, though it may be in the future. But I have decided on a use for it, since I do still use the MadXStitcher name for some things. Primarily, craft patterns. And if there's one thing that isn't very well catered to, it's furry craft patterns. So that's what I'm doing. This account will be a place where I post not only my craft patterns, but lineart packs and other assets I make. But mostly patterns.
You can see my finished artwork over at milesy . But here, you'll find mostly updates on what's on Patreon and my store.

Rebranding - PLEASE READ
Posted 6 years agoI've been feeling rather pigeonholed by my username for a while, so today I took the plunge and re-branded. This was a pretty painless process everywhere, except for here on FA where I needed to create a brand new account. Super tedious and irritating, but there it is.
Under the new account, I'll be posting the same stuff I've been posting, under the same schedule. But I'll be expanding to more digital and traditional art as well. I did this because I want to expand on Twitch, and I want to keep my usernames consistent across the board. I'm not going to be deleting this account; it'll stay up as an archive of sorts. But I won't be using it.

Fabric Samples
Posted 6 years agoJust a small little update, but I've gone through all of my fabric and taken photos and added labels to it. Now, for commissions and stuff, you can take a look at what I have currently available. If I don't have something you want, I can make it for you as long as there's a WHITE card at the top of the list. If there's no WHITE card, it means I don't have any of that fabric available to dye. I can place a custom order, but I will have add a fee for the order, and it generally takes a few weeks for the fabric to get to me.

That's how many packages I'm bundling up and sending out today. At a bit over $3 each, this is why I've had to stop offering physical goods to most Patreon tiers.
I'm pretty sure some of these people shouldn't be getting packages. But Patreon doesn't give me a very good way to verify whether a pledge is brand new or a change. Oh well. I'll be taking that out as well going forward.
If you're waiting on a commission/trade, and you know it's ready to go out, look out for a tracking number in your inbox shortly. If you're not sure if you're in this batch, feel free to send me a message to double-check.

My Friend's Place - Fundraiser
Posted 6 years agoThere's a fundraiser for My Friend's Place starting in about 20 minutes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsFtY4AhXsE
https://tiltify.com/@markiplier/myf.....dsplace/donate - Donation Page
The goal is $500,000. Superchats made during the stream also get passed along (either immediately through direct integration, or in cases where the charity isn't supported, the streamer has the capital to funnel it through immediately after the event, without having to wait the two months for YouTube to pay out).
The goal is $500,000, so that's what they're going to hit. The event will not stop until the goal is reached.

No Streams until probably Monday-ish
Posted 6 years agoWell, it wasn't the weird way my husband made the coffee yesterday. I'm properly ill, it seems. I'm just going to disappear for a few days to wallow in misery. I'll still be working on commissions; just off-camera for a while. I'll be checking my messages here and elsewhere periodically, but for the most part, I'll be rather MIA.
No weekend streams this week
Posted 6 years agoIt occurred to me I hadn’t mentioned this here.
I will not be streaming this weekend. Whether that includes Friday, I’m not yet sure. It depends on other people who don’t release their own schedules until the last minute.
There is a 48-hour charity stream happening at a nebulous point this weekend, and I plan on catching as much of it as I can. I will probably be hosting it on my channel, like I do for other charity events I skip work to watch.
I’ll be using this time to work on commissions for speed paints, which should get me well ahead of the curve on those earmarked for YouTube.
I’m also hoping to have something finished today, and will try to get a stream in this evening if I can.
Edit: either I’ve picked up a stomach bug, or I’ve eaten something that doesn’t agree with being eaten. Either way, no stream tonight.

my fuckin stand broke again
Posted 6 years agoMy embroidery stand broke today. It's not the end of the world; I just had to undo a few bolts and glue something back together. It's drying now, but I'm definitely not streaming tonight because of this.
Commission FAQ
Posted 6 years agoI've been getting some questions lately, so I figured I'd address them all in one place.
Yes. The buyer is responsible for shipping. It can start at $3 in the US, and $15 outside the US.
I can't give a good estimate without knowing the size you want. Pieces like cut-out badges, patches, and postage stamps take about three weeks. Larger piece can take several months or more. Poster-sized pieces can take over a year.
First I have to draw the piece, if you want a cartoony base. This can take several days. Sometimes the process to convert an image is a frustrating one, because I have a very limited colours available to me, and further limit each piece to a maximum of 200. This kind of conversion sometimes requires considerable effort to get right. However, this process takes a day at most. After this each piece is hand-stitched, one at a time. A badge with a fully-stitched background contains 8500 stitches.
Your invoice will contain a time estimate in weeks, based off of the dimensions of your piece. These estimates are based off a full queue, and it's very possible I will finish before the estimated date.
If you need something by a certain date, which falls beyond my estimate, let me know BEFORE you pay your invoice. Pieces can be rushed, but please bear in mind that this is still a slow process, and I can only go so much more quickly. If I cannot make your deadline, you will be told. Rushed pieces will take queue priority without compromising deadlines of other projects. There is a 25% rush fee.
Clients who attempt to rush an order after a project has started may have their order cancelled.
I've tried to make sure prices on small items stay low. But these pieces take a long time, and materials are expensive. Sometimes I run discounts or promotions on certain items, so be sure to watch my journal for those.
With a few exceptions, pieces are charged at 1¢ per stitch. I do not charge extra for tent stitch vs full stitches. Although tent stitch takes slightly less time, the materials cost is very similar.
Yes. For any order over $50, I accept payment plans. Please ask about this BEFORE you pay your invoice. Plans are as flexible as you need them to be. You will be asked what you can afford as a down payment and your first invoice will be adjusted accordingly. For roughly each $25, you'll have bought a new completed page. Each time I complete a page, you'll be sent a new invoice.
Stitches come in several shapes. The standard x stitch (full stitch) looks like a perfect square on the fabric. Tent stitch is a half stitch which looks like \. A full stitch has heavier coverage, while tent stitch can sometimes have a sketchy look up close.
For sprites, badges, and pieces with no background, I always do a full stitch. For full-coverage pieces, I tend to use tent stitch as it makes large projects go faster. However I cannot do this on all full-coverage pieces. On 20ct and lower, I still use full stitches, since the material cost sky rockets and it doesn't look as nice as the stitches get bigger.
Tent Stitch vs Full Stitch
In most cases, yes. While I have preferences as to what works and looks better, if you have your own ideas, I can do it your way instead. There may be an extra materials cost in some cases.
No. If a piece is a gift, or you don't want it livestreamed for any reason, I can make a speed paint instead if the piece is small enough. If it is too large for a speed paint, or you do not want it on camera at all, there is a 25% fee. Livestreams and speed paints are how I keep my prices low.
If it's small enough, yes! Small enough is subjected, based on your fabric choices, but generally anything that is going to be larger than about 8-9 inches tall is too big for a speed paint, as it will need to go on a different frame to be worked on.
Are they mailed?
Yes. The buyer is responsible for shipping. It can start at $3 in the US, and $15 outside the US.

Strem stuff
Posted 6 years agoI may not stream today. If I do stream, it won't be until later. Twitch imports keep fucking up when I move them to YouTube, and I've found the only way to be consistent about formatting and scheduling is to upload manually. If I'm uploading manually anyway, I may as well record locally so I can listen to better music while I stream. Since I only have one PC, I can't stream and edit/upload at the same time. I'll be working on badges today while I wait for Premiere to do its thing.
Telegram
Posted 6 years agoI set this up while watching spunkyracoon stream last night, and figure it's worth a go. But I've got a Telegram channel thing now.

I'll mostly be using it to announce streams and stuff. I'm not really sure how else to use it, as a chronic sufferer of Old, but maybe I'll figure it out eventually.

Commission Price Update
Posted 6 years agoI've shifted my commission prices a little bit, to be more uniform and less confusing. Rather than charging by a seemingly-arbitrary page-count for a pattern most clients will never actually see, I've shifted the prices to be by stitch-count, or pixel dimensions. The new prices listed are the base prices for each piece. Some pieces only have a single price, or operate on a different sliding scale. Those with a base price are charged at the base first, plus 1¢ per stitch beyond the base cost.
In many cases, the base price has increased, since it takes into account the minimum size that can be done with that commission type. While the base has increased, the overall prices will go down, especially for larger pieces.

Update on a previous post concerning commission stuff
Posted 6 years agoIt's taken about three days, but I've finally finished completely overhauling my colour libraries for my embroidery floss. Early tests indicate that colour is far more accurate than before. As I said in my previous journal, this means that certain commissions will take less time going forward. It won't be a universal thing, but pixellated pieces with more colours will see the biggest improvement.
As an added bonus, depending on how well things go over the next week or two, I'll be able to take my second, organised-by-colour thread bin and re-arrange it to be by number. This is awesome because it means I can keep a bin permanently in my bedroom, where I do a fair amount of work on projects that don't get filmed. Not going to do that tonight though, because I do want to make absolutely certain that everything works as expected. There's still a chance that it won't be completely perfect, and keeping a bin organised by colour may still be necessary for some projects. I hope not though, because I hate bins that are organised by colour so damn much.

50% OFF - Pet Portraits
Posted 6 years agoFor February, I'm offering 50% off pet portraits again, making the base price $60.
How these work:
You provide an image to be converted to an embroidered piece. The higher-quality the image, the easier it will be for me to convert it, but I do have Photoshop and proprietary HDR software that can fix up photos with less than ideal lighting.
Sizing on these is the same as printing. I currently have 22dpi and 18dpi fabric available, but can easily get some 14dpi if you would like that. The higher the number, the greater the detail that can fit into a single square inch. However, getting larger pieces on higher dpi fabric does cost more. Here is an example of the change in quality you can expect.
Price is based on stitch count, at 1¢ per stitch.
I quote time to completion at page count x 1.75 = time in weeks. If you know the stitch dimensions you want, you can figure out a rough estimate yourself with stitch count / 2640 = pages.
Commiss.io is preferred for tax reasons. You do not need an account to place an order through Commiss.io. Send me a note here or there if you're interested.

Good News! - Commission Stuff
Posted 6 years agoI have been in contact with the company that produces the thread I use. I use some fancy-pants software to turn images into thread, but none of the software I've ever used as done it accurately.
Here's a quick visual on why this is bad: http://forums.furaffinity.net/threa.....kbook.1655046/
Now, I'm working on a project with 97 colours. Every single one has had to be swapped so far. That gets old, and takes a lot of time. So I contacted the thread manufacturer, asking if they had RGB values for their thread. And they did! Their list is incomplete, since it looks like it had been outsourced a while ago, but over the next few days, I'll be fixing my own colour library with it.
The TL;DR result is that it will help larger commissions get done faster. It won't help much with the small ones, but great big ones should get a hell of a lot easier. Unfortunately, it won't help anything that's already been printed.
