New Featured Work
Posted 16 years agoI've decided that due to my apparant inability to keep to any kind of regular schedule with these updates, I'm just going to replace the featured work on my page whenever I have a spare moment. Here is the latest one that caught my eye...
Title: Meaningful Gaze

Artist:
Here again, my bias toward traditional mediums...this time markers (a medium I admire but can't do myself).
One of the things I really enjoy about this pic is the clean, simple and eye catching color scheme. The red of the blanket contrasts with the mostly white character and the small bits of blue are an awesome accent. Adding just the right amount of color. The way the eyes are rendered shows beautiful depth and clarity and the golden color compliments the blue accents perfectly.
And of course, I can't ignore the pose. :D Foreshortening is always difficult to do (just ask
) but Longinius captures the playful, sexy essence of this pose extremely well.
Clean, simple colors, sexy pose, and great character expression make this a pic worth checking out!
Enjoy!

Second Feature

This should have been posted on Monday, but somehow the week got away from me. So maybe my postings will be on Wednesday nights from here on out...
Anyway, the first thing that struck me about this image was the lighting/atmosphere. The subtle back-light on the characters and the translucent grass, combined with the twilight colors really capture the sense of late summer when the air is still warm, but there's a sense that autumn is coming.
Secondly the realistic way in which the impala ladies are rendered. Capturing expression on an animal face isn't the easiest task, (even more difficult with less stylized depictions). The impala's look of serene intelligence blends perfectly with the animal realism.
Great image, spectacular atmosphere and lighting. Makes me wish it was still summer...

I felt that given my own artistic leanings, the first work I featured should highlight traditional medium. I'm not anti-digital, but hand-colored stuff always holds a special place in my heart. :D
That said...
This piece caught my eye for several reasons. First, it's well executed with bold, contrasting colors (something else I'm biased toward), and a great sense of motion.
Also, the fire effect is well done which is something that's difficult to capture w/ colored pencils/pastels (I'm guessing on the medium here).
The character has nicely detailed skin patterns and awesome looking eyes. And the whole piece has an excellent sense of focus.
Overall, a beautiful picture.
Enjoy!

First journal here...
Posted 16 years agoMy name is Magic Clam (not really). I'm the colorist who works with Cervidian94. I created this page so that I can respond to comments, check out art, and so that I don't have to keep pirating Cervidian94's account to check out how our stuff is doing.
Since I don't draw, I won't be uploading anything to my gallery, but I'm thinking about posting a weekly fave. A piece whose colors are unique or exceptional from the art here on FA. I really don't know what the point of this will be, except to bestow some kind of purpose to my page...
So, if for some odd reason, you've ended up here and are disappointed by the lack of art, check out my work on
cervidian94's page.
That is all.
