Unfortunately we have no equipment for this month (fursuit lounge fans being the big one) due to our logistics adviser being unable to attend. Sorry guys!
Activities
This month we have a whole bunch of activities for people to take part in. Feel free to just wander over and join in! =D Activities this month include but aren't limited to:
Card games
Feel free to bring any card games you have like Pokemon or Magic. Don't be shy just ask to play! Other card games provided include snap, poker and blackjack.
Art corner
Every meet we have an art corner hosted by Diesel and Karou. Feel free to pull up a chair and get drawing. This corner is open to everyone with pens and paper provided. Artists can sit down and even sell art/print/merc (No cash exchange inside the venue please) Speak to Diesel and Karou at the meet for further details!
Drinking games
As the evening goes on a few staff and volunteers will be hosting some drinking games! Games TBA but suggestions are always welcome!
Fursuit walk
The fursuit will take place at 3pm so we recommend you change before this time and be ready to leave. It's raining we usually stay inside the venue though.
Note on the fursuit lounge and fursuiters safety
Fursuiters also be aware you are responsible for your own suit (this should go without saying really) and I really would recommend getting a handler if you're not 100%. Our friendly volunteers would be more than happy to keep an eye on you for the fursuit walk if you don't have any spare friends to hand. I really don't want someone to end up getting hurt at the furmeets. =(
Our headless lounge is for changing into fursuit only so please register your fursuit when you arrive with Benny at the top of the bed bar stairs! The downstairs area or bed bar is booked until 5.30pm so please make sure all personal belongings are cleared before this time! If fursuits or belongings are left in the fursuit lounge AFTER 5.30pm they will be moved to the public bar area by staff. Look after your fursuit!
If you are asked to leave the fursuit lounge as you are not a fursuiter then please do so. The fursuit lounge over the past meets seems to have become a social area which it isn't! Even if you have a fursuit you cannot hang out down there and drink. This type of behavior is making other fursuiters, who are trying to get changed, uncomfortable. Socialise in the upstairs bar area please not in a changing room...
Hope to see you all there! <3

MancFurs will now be organised as a committee
Posted 12 years agoComrades,
Last October Lone had to suddenly leave to take a job abroad. In the intermittent time there’s been something of a leadership vacuum, causing some confusion among staff and spilling over at times into the meets where people were unfairly, yet understandably, mistaking others as being in charge of the whole operation. Fact was these last few weeks there had not been any recognised leadership.
Course this couldn’t go on so the last week we’ve been hammering out new succession that would best move our region forward. So to get to the point we have created a MancFurs committee made up of 3 heads of department and governed by a charter. There will be no one defining leader but a cooperation of staff who will get decisions agreed on by vote.
> Who are the heads of department?
The heads of department are full MancFurs staff in charge of overseeing a certain aspect of the meets get carried out. The founding departments are venue, fursuit and community & communications (one department), handled by SkaPup, Geo Panda and Pizza respectively. Each sit on the committee meetings and each get a vote.
From now on you have a problem with the venue, you speak to SkaPup. You’re a fursuiter who feels the walk should take a different route you talk to Geo and if you’re new and got questions about the meets you talk to Pizza.
> What is this charter?
The MancFurs charter is document that defines MancFurs, what its role is and how it is governed and operated.
> What’s the point of it? Why go to the effort of writing it?
The MancFurs charter was created to dispel myths and ambiguities as well as set a framework for how meets are operated. It is a public document that anyone can read and get informed on how the meets are organised.
> Is the MancFurs charter fixed?
Nope! It’s an evolving document and what you see before you is version 1. Overtime the committee can vote to make amendments to the charter, such as adding new departments or changing how it operates.
> So what happens now?
The intention is to go back to basics. Staff have gotten bog down with distractions too often such as trying to organise activities and events on top of trying to sort out too many conflicts. The charter defines MancFurs as a meet in which people can meet up on an agreed date and location and that is the prime responsibility of the staff. Nobody has the right to expect staff to provide entertainment and if staff do organise activities it is out of the goodness of their own heart rather than duty.
> So does that mean the meets will be just furs in a bar drinking?
It will be if you allow it. From now on, the community has to take responsibility of itself. If people want cinema trips, trips to the bowling alley, meals at a particular restaurant, trips to the museum, do it yourself rather than needing to be spoon fed or held by the paw by the organisers. You tell the community & communications department what you have planned and they can lend a hand promoting your activity across the MancFurs social media network.
> Anything else changing?
The Manchester Main Meet/Great NorthernFur Party organisers have now merged with the MancFurs Committee. We recognise that for you lot it’s hard to understand the fact that the monthly meets and main meets were actually separately organised, so it’s been reunified and will be a join operation again.
If you have concerns, feedback or further questions ask me please in the comments below.

MancFurs Charter v1.2
Posted 12 years agoCharter for MancFurs – version 1.1
What is MancFurs?
The furry fandom is made up of diverse people with equally diverse interests, but united by a common passion for anthropomorphic animal depictions. MancFurs is short for Manchester Furries (or Greater Manchester Furries), representing a regional area in the North of England where hundreds of furs reside. MancFurs holds a meet every month for the benefit of its residents and visitors afar; an opportunity to meet people with like minded hobbies and interests, a social event for the community.
MancFurs team
MancFurs team are 3 people who volunteer their time to organise the monthly meets. Our primary role is to secure a venue, set a date, spread the word, oversee the meet runs smoothly and ensure future meets take place again. Our aim is to create an environment where furs can socialise together under one roof and do their own thing.
The MancFurs team is not there to control people, we do not control all events in Greater Manchester and our job is not to create a convention. We facilitate meetings where the community can itself organise activities and events.
MancFurs team is focused on organising two kinds of social events:
- Meets held every 2nd Saturday of the month in Manchester
- Party events held biannually
If anyone wants to organise irregular meets within Greater Manchester, whether Stockport, Bury, Bolton, or Manchester on a different date, the MancFurs team will not interfere unless someone tries to pose as MancFurs staff. We would appreciate your cooperation though in order to help promote your event across our social media network.
An example would be the biannual MancFurs Tea Crawl, an event organised by Adcro independently of the MancFurs team. MancFurs contribution is to help promote the event through our Twitter, Facebook and FurAffinity page.
If a borough within Greater Manchester does wish to form their own regular meet it would be appreciated if they work in conjunction with MancFurs so existing resources can be leveraged, avoid our attendees needing to follow two different groups and avoid confusion.
MancFurs team structure
There will be no more heads of departments. All 3 team members (Geo, Rixie and Pizza) are of equal level and contribute towards the furmeets as a team.
Each staff member has the following powers:
- A seat on the team meetings
- A vote on any given issue
- Autonomy to hire personnel
- Autonomy to delegate tasks
- Ban hammer
All 3 team members share responsibility.
Volunteer
Comes in the form of either a meet volunteer, an online volunteer or someone who contributes in both areas. They assist with some task that needs doing.
Examples of online volunteer:
- Secretary
- Treasurer
Examples of meet volunteers:
- Logistics
- Inventory manager
Example of volunteers with an meet and online capacity:
- Entertainment manager
Core staff that make up the MancFurs team 30/06/15
Rixie
Geo Panda
Pizza
3 named core staff are responsible for:
- Booking venue
- Scouting for venue
- Negotiate with the venue for best deals
- Representing venue concerns at team meetings
- Lead handler of any problems that involve the venue
- Ensure furs respect the venue house rules
- Arrange the fursuit walk
- Arrange a changing room with facilities
- Create a safe environment for fursuiters
- Representing fursuiters at team meetings
- Lead handler of any problems that involve fursuiters
- Representing community concerns at team meetings
- Lead handler of any problems that involve the community
- Assist new furs with settling into the community
- Public relations
- Posting events, messages and news bulletins
- Handle social media presence
— FurAffinity
— UKFur

— Twitter
- Direct people to speak to the right people
- Handles the branding of MancFurs
- Public relations
- Marketing
- Internal administration
Absence
If a core staff member cannot attend a furmeet for any reason (reason does NOT have to be provided) they MUST provide a stand in. It's the staff members responsibility to ensure their stand in knows what to do at the furmeet.
Voting
Votes take place on general issues such as:
- Appointing new staff that can sit and vote on team meetings
- Altering meet rules & policies
- Changes to the Charter for MancFurs
Note: Votes are not needed in order to carry out minor corrections such as grammar and spelling.
- Purchasing of resource
Dealing with attendee problems
Meet rules are put in place for four reasons:
- Safe atmosphere for attendees
- Smooth running of the meets
- Adhering to the rules of the venue
- Adhering to the law
MancFurs recognises the limits of how much can be achieved in having attendees adhere to rules. Staff members deal with what can be dealt with reasonable certainty and leave alone that which is a lost cause. The safest issues to deal with are what is witnessed firsthand and the next is what is widely witnessed. When staff cannot confidently determine the truth of an event, the victim should be instructed to take up their complaint with the venue or the police.
Staff at the meet can make judgements on the day and issue out the following:
- A verbal talking to
- A formal warning where a record will be kept
- Meet suspension
- Ban
Terminology
Official list of terms used frequently when talking about MancFurs. The definitions serve to dispel ambiguity and also discourage use of equivalent terminology which can result in confusion and uncertainty to what they mean.
MancFurs
Shorthand for describing the geographical area of Greater Manchester that furries reside within.
MancFurs team
A group of furs who work together to organise the monthly meets and the biannual party.
MancFurs Monthly Meet
Meets held every 2nd Saturday of the month in Manchester
Note: Mini meet is a depreciated terminology.
Biannual party
A larger meet held during the summer and winter.
Note: The definition is a placeholder and it will be up to the team to chose an actual name for the event.
Volunteer
A person volunteering some of their time to carry out task on behalf of a team member. They cannot sit on team meetings unless deputised by a core team member, summoned to a meeting or given the role of chairman. They cannot issue out punishments.
Charter
The charter is a public document that aims to lay down what MancFurs is, how the meets are governed, how the team that governs is structured and how works it works.

MancFurs

MancFurs Monthly Meet

Lone stepping down from his organiser role
Posted 12 years agoA few people have been wondering what is really going on with MancFurs. So let clear it up.
My name is Lone ‘the dog’ and for a while I’ve been running MancFurs, I enjoyed running the meets and things were going great, but it can’t always stay the same. Things change, develop and evolve one way or another. I like to think under my time as organiser, MancFurs has improved rather dramatically; for instance more furs attend than I could ever have hoped for. Me and my staff have tried in every possible way to makes things better, more inclusive, safe and above all a time for you to be as social as you want.
Running up to October there were signs that things were going to change, mostly for the better as appointments were being made to ease the running of MancFurs. First was the appointment of Pizza; she has proven to be an invaluable member of MancFurs and kept things together as Community Liaison. The next big appointment was a dear friend Geo Panda, who has been loyal to MancFurs, attending meets whenever possible and becoming the new Fursuit Liaison both being very capable. They shall become the authority of the meets.
Now as a few of you may have heard, I was offered a job abroad; this was sudden and unexpected, leaving little time to plan ahead. We had to improvise a few ideas, implement some quick policies and importantly: figure out the next steps to see where MancFurs will go, but importantly, retain a sense of continuation. So a few bumps are to be expected this coming December, but don’t be alarmed, it’s just adapting to the situation and we in MancFurs are more than capable of that. I won’t be at the meets, but I will be helping out whenever I can.
Now I am guessing the more troublesome question a lot of you have been asking, well, what’s going on with the organiser, or what will he do next?
Simply, and I will admit it’s a little controversially, I shall not be stepping down to allow a single person to take charge of MancFurs. Rather, since leaving I have heard about the great work that has been done by my staff and I think a solution has arisen, the staff shall be the organisers of the meets: Geo, Pizza and newly appointed Venue liaison SkaPup. I will take a role in the new structure as advisor if needed but they between themselves shall be responsible for MancFurs.
So MancFurs still has it’s organisers and the many volunteers that keep helping out. Things will be a little different but better, and with new ideas and new funding we hope here in MancFurs to keep you entertained, safe and importantly provided for so you can enjoy the best meets possible.
Oh and if you're attending CF I shall see ya there!

Stuart Otterson will be waiting to welcome you at the station and is free to talk to any shy MancFurs who may be attending their first meet. Don’t worry! We’ve all been there! :)
Making sure we have everyone with us, we’ll make our way to Tribecca, our host venue. We will have a whiteboard with the daily planned activities including drawing games, a pub quiz, a fursuit walk and board games! If you have any questions feel free to ask. :) Our headless lounge is for fursuiters only so please register your fursuit when you arrive with Lone! The downstairs area or bed bar is booked until 6pm so please make sure all personal belongings are cleared before this time!
After you’ve arrived, the day is yours to spend as you see fit. Go out with a group of your friends to the city centre, stay inside the venue and take part in some activities, sit in the nearby gardens, head to the cinema and so forth.
Activity information
• Pub quiz (general furry knowledge) [Pizza]

If the weather is good we will be having our fursuit walk at 3pm. Please get changed and be ready before this time so you don’t get left behind! As mentioned before the downstairs area or bed bar is booked 12-6pm for fursuit storage and to serve as a headless lounge. Please note only fursuiters are allowed in this area as it isn’t exactly the biggest space in the world!
Headless lounge
There will be high powered fans to allow air circulation and cooling for the suiters but also to dry the suits off. There is a suit rack for the suits that need to air out a bit from use. Water will be provided in a cold water keg with cups for use but try not to make a mess. Lastly the suit changing area is strictly for storage of suit, changing in and out and drying or cooling off suits, space is limited at the best of times in the area so please do not spend time in there just socialising you will be asked to allow space for other suiters. Please make sure all personal belongings are cleared from this area before 6pm as the area then becomes open to the public.
5pm Cinema Trip
Lone
If you are interested please speak to Lone.
Sunday 13th October
There have been a few negotiations with Tribecca and with their Sunday deal of £2.50 Rekorderlig bottles, I have asked them if it would be ok for a smaller Sunday event, a place we can store any extra items like suits or luggage that is required and allow a second day at the venue. So if you want to save a little in the pocket Sunday maybe a cheaper day for you.
Further information
Donations
We accept donations. We are keeping it as transparent as possible and you can always enquire about what we do with donations, how we handle it and give us suggestions on how to make it more transparent and what we can invest it in.
If you wish to donate you can come up to a MancFurs staff and ask about the donation box, which is sealed until the end of the meet where witnesses watch the money being counted. Lone is the treasurer and puts it into a Lloyds's TSB account.
You can alternatively donate via PayPal to manchesterminimeets[at]hotmail.com
Volunteers
Lasty I would like to mention the Volunteers, those that have helped the meets in any little or large way possible, from letting us know, set-up or just providing the meets with materials we need to help carry them on, so I would like to personally thank the volunteers for the last few months and I hope they can keep up the good work. Especially Geo taking up the role of last meets walk leader.
New community liaison for 2014
Posted 12 years agoThis post is written by Stuart Otterson who acts as community liaison for MancFurs (which includes among other things answering people’s notes and maintaining the FA page).
Hi comrades. Just want to let people be aware I will be reducing my staff role involvement in MancFurs over the coming months. I made the decision last month, but it's not for anything controversial, I just feel worn down and it felt a good idea to have a younger person with more energy and fresh ideas take over my assistant role to Lone.
I am pleased to say that
pizzapuppy agreed to take over the role of Community Liaison (which includes secretary, entertainments manager, oversight administrator, communications officer, social media manager, etc) and we’ve already been going through a steady transition which will be complete by the end of the year at the latest.
We realise just changing staff doesn’t equate to progress and it has been refreshing having an outside point of view discussing the various inefficiencies and idiocies that we all know needs resolving. We hope 2014 will see many improvements.
It’s been a great experience working and talking with everyone, I will always be around but in a capacity where I’m doing my own thing. Thanks. *salutes*

Announcement: No cash exchange at artist alley
Posted 12 years agoImportant announcement affecting artists selling their services
In short, the venue has said attendees cannot exchange cash for services/goods inside the venue premise.
We have known for a while that the “not-dealers-den-wink-wink” going on at the artist alley was in a limbo state. We turned a blind eye and encouraged discretion precisely because the formation of a dealers den would require a license from trading standards and possible VAT/tax collection which unfortunately the venue does not have the licenses nor resources to extend to us.
Policy henceforth is that the artist alley will just be an artist alley where anyone can use the tables to draw and show off their works.
Here is an easy to digest list of some of the things that can and cannot take place now:
Yes
- Collect artwork
- Create artwork
- Show off artwork (discretion on mature art subjects)
- Exchange artwork
- Hand out business/calling cards
- Conduct commissioning talk
- Show goods (tails, furpaws)
- Hand out receipts
No
- Cash being exchanged inside the venue (coins, notes, cheques)
- Credit/debit Card tractions
- No price lists being laid out on the table
The venue has said if they catch people in the act of exchanging money for goods/services they will escort them off the premise. You will be on your own if you get caught and we will not defend you if it is clear to us you broke the rule.
If we catch you, we will remind you that cash cannot be exchanged and we will encourage you to use an acceptable alternative means of exchanging cash. Arguing and repeated willful breaking of the rule will get you in trouble with us.
Suggested acceptable means of exchanging money
- Payment prior to the meet
- Exchanging of goods/services for goods/services (as long as the goods isn’t cash)
- Agree to pay after the meet
- Electronic online transaction payment, including:
- Paypal
- Bitcoin
- Direct bank payment
- etc
If you are a Barclays bank account holder, you can send money from your mobile to the recipient even if they don’t have a Barclays bank account by using their payment service Pingit
Note: In the unlikely scenario you have a credit/debit card reader that you can hook to your mobile phone this is regarded by the venue as a “locally” committed transaction happening in their premise and so is not an acceptable means of exchanging money.

MancFurs Summer Tea Room Crawl – 14th July 2013
Posted 12 years agoTo those new to the event, it's on the Sunday of the MancFurs meet, so it's a bit more relaxed and casual, and allows furs to socialise with each other without it being in a big bar, loud music, fursuits, events etc, but over tea, coffee, cakes, maybe a bit of lunch and the such, and in a more mature and relaxed atmosphere. We tend to stay at each venue for between an hour and two hours.
The plan is that we will meet at Piccadilly Rail Station between 11am and 12pm, then head off to the first of three venues.
The first venue is Richmond Tea Rooms, which is Victorian era, and styled with an Alice in Wonderland theme in one room, and a traditional lodge/gentlemen's club in another room.
The second venue is Sugar Junction, which is 1940's era, and styled with a "granny's parlour" type theme, complete with winged armchairs with tassels.
The final venue is different this time. Previously it was Teacup on Thomas Street, but it gets too busy to accommodate our number of tea crawlers, so I'm changing the final venue to Nexus Art Café, which isn't strictly speaking a tea room, but it does tea and cakes and is a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, in the current era.
All of the venues take cards, but I would recommend cash for Nexus Art Café, as they have a minimum purchase amount on a card, and then a card charge.
Instead of taking numbers of attendees this time (as last time I took a list, but loads more came!), I'm simply going to go ahead and try and reserve 20 places at the first two venues (Nexus is more casual, we can just collapse on couches there!). It'll really be 'first come first served' with said 20 spaces, but even if you don't get one of those, we usually are able to get more tables and seats nearby anyway.
As we'll finish at Nexus, you can stay there as long as you like, so feel free to bring a card game or two, or your sketchbooks if you feel like drawing etc.
I'd like to point out though, that given the nature of this event, I wouldn't recommend wearing ears/tails etc, and please, no fursuits.

Feed back on handling lost & found
Posted 12 years agoQuestion to the community, what do people think about lost & found and the way we organisers are currently handling it?
It's been quite apparent we're not tackling lost and found well at all because our bag of stuff keeps growing faster than what we manage to give back to the owners.
Thing is we've resisted just naming the items we have because we worry opportunists will see "Oh a load of Magic the Gathering cards" and be like "Err yep those are mine!"
>_>
<_<
>:3
Ok recently I've not posted reminders about lost and found, but even when I did tweet up and such I dunno if it's because people missed them, or people simply don't realise we gathered a lot of loot. I mean we've got sweater, hoodies, all sorts of shit.
I'm not even sure having a dedicated thread on UKFurs about lost and found is going to help seeing how forum interaction is continually declining. Do people have any bright ideas?

Manchester Main Meet – 29th June 2013
Posted 12 years agoNow I know what you are thinking... Kiffy wtf are you on about last Manchester Mainmeet? Well I'll tell you... From November the Manchester Mains become the Great Northern Furmeets! Buuuuuut there will be more about that closer to the time.
This meet is 16+
Organisers for the meet are Skapup and Kiffy Lee with the assist from Lone and Co. And we’ll have our distinguishing badges as per the norm... however we’ll more than likely be found by the bar.
Date for your diary as per the title is:
Saturday 29th of June 2013
MEET-UP By 12PM - meet up at Manchester Piccadilly Train station
1. Piccadilly: Until 12PM we'll be gathering near the departure/arrival signs and Platform 1 &2
2. If the police have moved us along before 12, wait patiently at Sackville Garden on Canal Street.
Make sure you have someone's phone number in case you show up late and no-one's there! Contact a member of staff if you think you'll need 'em but generally we're an easily spottable group. The Furry in its natural habitat of the train station wears tails, conbadges and generally huddle in a big group! If you're new, don't be afraid to say hey!
If the weather is terrible (i.e. rain/snow/hurricanes/aliens/etc.) I’d recommend instead of hitting up Whitworth gardens that you go straight to the bar on Sackville Street :3
At 12PM - Head to Tribecca on Sackville St (just off Canal Street).

Posted 12 years agoSaturday 8th
Before 12pm - Meet at Manchester Piccadilly Train station
Please meet up with the group at the train station before 12pm (we don’t like waiting for stragglers). The group is outside platform 1 & 2 and near the large departure/arrival signs.
When in doubt, have someone’s mobile number
After 12pm - head to Tribecca on Canal Street
The group will wander over to Tribecca, our host venue, the upstairs (Purple Lounge) be the fursuit changing area. You’ll be greeted by Lone. If you have a suit you can ask him about the day’s suiting orientated activities, where changing areas are and when they are available.
At that point the day is yours to spend as you see fit. Go out with a group of your friends to the city centre, stay inside the venue, sit in the nearby gardens, head to the cinema and so forth.
If you have an activity you want to organise (e.g. trip to bowling alley, or seeing a film), let us know and we can post about it here and help you.
At around 1pm people will be splitting off to head for food. Tribeca offers food but some go to the nearby pizza take away, some head to the sushi restaurant, some head to the Arndale food court, this is your own choice.
3pm - Fursuit walk
Lone
If the weather is good a fursuit walk shall happen at 3pm. Fursuiters are advised to use common sense, change early before 3pm so you don’t get left behind and queue patiently to use the limited space designated as the changing room area.

Fursuit volunteers wanted for new promotional posters
Posted 12 years agoDelayed
We might be getting better equipment and logistics next meet. If interested fill out this registration form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iW.....bdem8/viewform
I want to make some new promotional posters for MancFurs, since the upcoming website needs a wide variety of backgrounds. They will be in the style of the Red/Blue posters made with Ari and Squirrel, in that they will be 2 tone contrasts with the words "Welcome to Manchester" but the difference is that you no longer have to do the Tevez pose, it'll be in groups of 2, 3 and up to 4 and the group can choose a colour.
For fursuiters interested in applying, you'll agree to the following:
- MancFurs can use the final product royalty free
- The posters will be used as long as we see fit
- End product might end up printed on a poster, used on websites, used within any reasonable promotional sense
- The purpose of the photos will be in promoting & representing the meets
On my part I agree to the following:
- Not use it for anything *directly* commercial, i.e. we won't be selling t-shirts with your image on it. I only promise this on straightforward matters, but the images may end up having indirect commercial use (ask me if you want a more in-depth explanation)
- I will check with those participating that they are satisfied with the final product (within expectations)
So fursuiters should band and either let me know here or talk to Hex Da Jackal or Ginge tomorrow (who I admit I probably still have to fill in on how this is going to work).
I imagine the photos will be done against a brick wall or something mono-coloured in the background to help me edit the photos in post-production.
When it comes to the photoshoot I'm looking for interaction. That's one of the reasons the group size is small so the focus can be on just a couple of fursuits. I advice against being overly posey and boring.
So I'm not looking for something like this:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10371194/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10103346/
We're looking for energy, interaction, whimsical, a little original if possible, spur of the moment. The photograph will be taking lots of photos so it's not like you have to pose, just work with him and let something natural come out.
These are the kind of photos I hope will be produced:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9035175/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9035179/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10102952/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9893048/
If you got any questions or things you want me to clarify fire away. Don't worry that it's short notice that's my own fault but I will gradually have more photos taken over the coming months so don't worry if you miss out this meet.
PS: For those interested in having non-fursuit promotional images, I would be interested in that but I imagine it's gonna need to be done in a different art style, plus I'll be surprised if people want to volunteer seeing the simmering opposition to photographs being taken at the meet.

Manchester Meet – 11th May 2013
Posted 12 years agoTheme
Sci-fi, with the amount of action sci fi and well dam good films recently we feel Sci fi is the best way to our final frontier (geddit?) so feel free to space things up and bring out ya phasers, iron man suits or be the man of steel, there is too much to choose from.
A quick mention about the venue:
So yes we have a new venue if you didn't notice..... after months of searching and don't worry we kinda knew we had outgrown and needed a venue change so Tribecca was the best alternative that met all out needs but also improved on them all and even include food served.. again a thanks for Kiffy pointing it out in discussions early on, if things go well it may remain the venue for the foreseeable future so please good behaviour and spend lots.
· Anyone caught by Tribecca staff drinking their own alcohol within the venue premises will receive a permanent ban.
· Anyone caught by MancFurs staff drinking will receive a ban at the staffs members discretion.
· The bar will be working under a ID only service for alcohol, so please bring any form of ID with proof of age or you may not get served.

We are currently tweaking the times of when the activities begin, we will post the times on Wednesday and there will be leaflets in the venue.

Announcement: New Venue for May 2013
Posted 12 years agoComrades I bring before you news regarding the future of the Manchester meet.
The building where Crunch stands has been our base of operations for six years, give or take. There have been occasions where we've ventured off to other venues, but we've always returned for a number of reasons. Opinions polarise over good aspects (relatively cheap drinks, jukebox) and negative aspects (infamous sticky floor, dark interior and cramp toilet facilities), they have always been good to us because of their cooperation with providing a changing room and permitting the presence of under 18s.
However, for a while we have outgrown the venue and have been searching for a alternative which met the various needs of our group. It is with great pleasure that the MancFurs organisers have found and agreed upon a new venue to try out for May.
Ladies and gentle furs…
Tribeca Bar – www.tribeca-bar.co.uk
Situated not all that far from Crunch, upon passing the small hallway with the unoccupied reception desk, you will see the ground floor has comfy black sofa seats and tables and enough space in-between to easily accommodate our group. To your left is a rectangular bar that can serve drinks on all sides. Behind the bar and it up against the wall is the red lounge. Above the hall where you entered is an elevated floor which contains the purple lounge.
Questions & answers:
Will under 18s be allowed inside?
For the monthly MancFurs meets, 16 and 17 year old furs will be allowed inside the venue under the same arrangements as Crunch, no attempts to buy alcohol, do anything illegal and leave the venue after 9pm.
Where is Tribeca Bar?
www.tribeca-bar.co.uk/find-us.html
Situated along Sackville Street and intersecting Canal Street, Tribeca bar is close to Crunch meaning a convenient continuation of where everyone was used to travelling by habit. That means we'll still meet up at Picadilly train station and there will be minimal alteration to the fursuit walk route. Being within the gay village also mean a continued environment of tolerance.
Where will fursuiters be changing?
The purple lounge which is a shorter flight of stairs than Crunch and more spacious. The bar will help curtain the place.
The interiors look dark like Crunch.
The photos on the website were taken during the evening, in fact the ground floor has plenty of natural lighting during the day.
What's it costing us?
Nothing. We've made multiple bookings for the venue which means no fee. If our group spending power is good it should keep them happy.
How much will drinks cost?
It will be a little more expensive then Crunch, that's the premium you pay for an improved meeting venue.
Toilets?
Not unisex and more spacious than Crunch.
Do we have exclusive use of the venue?
No.
Do we have use of the bed lounge downstairs?
Not for the regular monthly MancFur meets.
Do we have use of the red lounge?
Probably. If it is not reserved than it should not be a problem sitting there.
Is there outdoor space?
Not really, it is along a road which isn't pedestrianised, but is facing Sackville Garden. Bear in mind alcohol cannot be consumed there.
What else is interesting about Tribeca?
They serve food! Great for those who love to socialise and not have the search for lunch interrupt them. www.tribeca-bar.co.uk/food-menu.pdf
Also if Tribeca does go on to become a permeant meet venue, long term it might be worthwhile for some to invest £10 into their privilege card which entitles holders to 20% off food and monthly special offers. Who discovered Tribeca Bar?
We all give our gracious thanks to MancFur NorthernFurs party organiser
kiffylee for coming across Tribeca! Everyone should send him a message of thanks!
If you have any other questions ask away and we will answer them to the best of our knowledge.
Final word
It's been a while since we last used a different venue so there will be some uncertainties and there will be some learning for both the organisers and the bar staff. It is important we give them a good impression of our group so we can build good relations with the management. We are counting on everyone attending next month to do their bit, starting by being friendly and co-operative when ordering from the bar.
On food alone you can easily make back your 10 quid after a few months and then begin saving money.

Saturday 13th April 2013 Meet Activities
Posted 12 years agoA reminder that tomorrow at the furmeet there will be activities going on at the back seating area of Crunch, which if I might remind people, was frequently requested that people wanted something to do. It's also an ideal ice breaker for anyone new or shy.
For those not taking part in activities please leave some table space available at the back area of Crunch.
From 12pm to 2pm there will be drawing equipment (and I've remembered to packed paper this time) laid out and drawing challenges:
- Drawing prehistoric characters into furry characters
- Design your own dinosaur
- Furry frankenstein
From 2pm to 3pm there will be a pub quiz, simply join a table to form a table team.
- Questions round
- Pictionary round
- Name the character round
- Pun round
From 3pm onwards the area is open to board games. I will in particular be setting a game of Ugg-Tec in keeping with the meet's prehistoric theme. The game consists of trying to recreate block structures on the leader's card. The leader and players can only communicate with grunts, body movements and the hit on the head with an inflatable club.

Manchester Meet – 13th to 14th April 2013
Posted 12 years agoTheme
Pre historic
Wave ya arms, beat ya clubs and don your loin clothes as this month we go with the new movie the Croods comes the prehistoric furs.
Saturday 13th April
Before 12pm - meet up at Manchester Piccadilly Train station
Please meet up with the group at the train station before 12pm (we don’t like waiting for stragglers). The group is outside platform 1 & 2 and near the large departure/arrival signs.
When in doubt, have someone’s mobile number
The community liaison Stuart Otterson is there to help and welcome all new attendees or those needing a helping hand in socialising.
After 12pm - head to Crunch on Canal Street
The group will wander over to Crunch, our host venue, the upstairs as usual will be just a fursuit changing area and cool off point.
Some go to the nearby pizza take away, some head to the sushi restaurant, some head to the Arndale food court, this is your own choice.
Activity sessions at the back of Crunch
We will be continuing on the activity sessions with improvements and tweaks. We have organised different activities to entertain attendees should they feel lost with what to do at the meet and don’t have their own plans. We politely ask that attendees not participating to be mindful of not taking up seating space that participants want to use.
We are currently tweaking the times of when the activities begin, we will post the times on Wednesday and there will be leaflets in the venue.
3pm - Fursuit walk
Lone
If the weather is good a fursuit walk shall happen at 3pm. Fursuiters are advised to use common sense, change early before 3pm so you don’t get left behind and queue patiently to use the limited space designated as the changing room area.
Activities
Stuart
Throughout the day there is be a number of activities, times are yet to be confirmed but the activities include:
· Drawing challenges (provided by Stuart)
· Pub quiz (provided by Stuart)

· Board Games (provided by Stuart including Ugg-Tech which will fit the theme)
5pm-7pm - Cinema Trip
Lone
The Croods will be this weeks choice, looks plainly like a good film depending on cinema times or showing availability this will be our first choice.
To get an idea of how many are going, please contact MancFurs or Lone by making a mention on the UKFurs forum or via Twitter or Facebook or any other means.
Sunday 14th April
Sunday will be relaxed day, usual crawl about with be held by our trusted Stuart.
We will have Sunday lunch at The Bank pub situated near China Town. It is a relaxed setting with a good selection of drinks and food. Avoid tracky bottoms or clothes overly outlandish.
Later after 3pm we'll head off to check out Kyoto Lounge which is situated opposite Manchester Met University down Oxford Road. It will be a bit of a trek but we can take the bus if needed and I want to explore it because it is a gaming bar

We accept donations. We are keeping it as transparent as possible and you can always enquire about what we do with donations, how we handle it and give us suggestions on how to make it more transparent and what we can invest it in.
December we had a number of very generous individuals, , we are now in the positive figures by £15.30 after paying off all the previous new goods you may have noticed, all of which will go towards helping the Manchester mini meets better in any way we can find it possible. If you want to get a detailed account of spending ask Lone for the spreadsheet.
If you wish to donate you can come up to a MancFurs staff and ask about the donation box, which is sealed until the end of the meet where witnesses watch the money being counted. Lone is the treasurer and puts it into a Lloyds's TSB account.
