College. Again.
Posted 15 years agoSecond year of University, one year down on my trek towards a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Still unsure of my goals for post-college, but then again, I wasn't sure of my college goals at the start of sophomore year in High School, so I've still got time to search.

omfg. never thought this day would come.
Posted 16 years agoI have resolved a problem that has been holding me back for years in my writing.
I am a transformation author. I write what is commonly known as TF stories. They're typically short and don't have much in the way of a plot. I've been trying all this time to improve upon the TF story by adding a massive backstory and a whole lot of stuff post-TF sequence in my stories. I just didn't feel comfortable with leaving the reader (and my character, for that matter) hanging after the TF sequence.
Turns out, I'm doing it wrong. Not even J.K. Rowling wrote the complete life of Harry Potter. There's a much easier way to do this: by way of a "universe" concept. The best example I have is here, Brian Erik Coe's "The Visionary's Saga":
http://transform.to/~tsa-faq/TSA_FA.....html#Visionary
The Universe provides a sort of macro-wrapper for all the stories under its umbrella. It provides a framework, a world, and details about the world. What this does for the reader is give the story a larger context.
So now, after the transformation, I no longer have to include a massive backstory. This universe, this umbrella solves the life story problem, because it provides the reader with, well, not a complete idea, but a sense of what the character's life will be like post-TF. This, of course, assumes the reader is familiar with the universe. And it saves me the trouble of writing all that extra plot.
What makes this revelation even better is that I already have a universe going- I wrote it long ago, but haven't had much of use for it until now. Need to go back, edit it to include my newer concepts and for publication, and I'll have it up here.
This will make writing so much easier.
Never thought I'd see this day. I wonder if this is what it's like to be released from prison...

School just ended.
Posted 16 years agoStill alive. Alive and kickin. Well, not so much kickin', but anyhow...
Senior Year just ended last Friday. Have plenty of time to put out writings now. Expect more in the next few weeks.
Got a new laptop. Walmart sold me a $900 Acer for $600. I succeeded in f*cking up the Vista partition within the first hour, so I wiped the partition table and put Windows 7 on it. I've been quite satisfied with it.

Music Meme- my turn!
Posted 17 years agoStolen from
ikodomoonstrife who stole it from someone else, who stole it from someone else, God knows where this thing started, but it's my turn to give this thing a spin.
If you can't tell, I fudged some of these so that they made some sense. For instance, I orginally had Iron Maiden- "Two Minutes To Midnight" under "Birth of a Child," which DOES NOT WORK. If you know the song, then you know that one of the lines is "Two minutes to midnight, to kill the unborn in the womb," which gets into issues of abortion and such >.<
I have a number of different playlists for my moods, so what I did is I chose the playlist that closest fit each category, then picked a song from that playlist to put down. Clearly against the outlined rules, but what the hell.
1. Open your music library.
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question, type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool.
7. ???
8. PROFIT!

Shoutout to the site admins
Posted 17 years agoBefore I go back to what I was doing, I want to thank the sysadmins- you guys work so damn hard to keep this awesome place going.
It was Sysadmin day a few weeks ago- sorry I couldn't wish you a happy sysadmin day then, but here's my repayment. And at the bottom of this page, it says it was generated in .014 seconds from 3 queries- that's awesome. For a summer job, I'm building webpages, and it utilizes PHP and MSSQL, and .014 seconds seems incredibly fast to me. That can be traced back to: 1. Sweet new hardware and 2. Awesome coding on your part.
So thanks again guys, I don't mind the wait- I'm happy to see the place up again.

Idea Brainstorming
Posted 17 years agoI am an author by trade, but I am limited by time constraints. They restrict me from working on my passion... but that's for a later debate.
I normally have no problems with ideas, so this evening I'm publishing some of my better ideas as scraps, so that other writers can hopefully gain some inspiration.
Message me if you are going to go somewhere with these, because I'd like to see how it turns out.

Dammit...
Posted 18 years agoDammit, someone's watching me now, namely this guy:
dwarf-ninjasSo now I feel obligated to upload something. I can't be a lurker much longer.
But I can't figure out what I should do. All's I have is a bunch of unfinished TF stories that I've thought up but never really developed...
But I could just post them as scraps. That'd probably be the way to go.
Well Well Well...
Posted 18 years agoAbout the whole Twilight Princess sound thing, I just read the Acceptable Submission Policy and that prohibits submission of the 'original rendition' of the copyrighted work. Ah well, so much for that...
OOO an update
Posted 18 years agoUPDATE!
I discovered this cool adapter in a Radioshack that would let me convert phono plug audio to a 1/8" headphone plug. I bought it as well as like... a 15' extension cord for 1/8" headphone jack.
SO WHAT THIS ALL MEANS IS... I can record directly from any audio source with phono plug outputs. SUCH AS:
1. My Nintendo Wii
2. My other game consoles
3. DVD players
Yup. So this afternoon I decided to record some stuff from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I literally hooked the Wii audio ports into my laptop and recorded the audio from the game. I wanted to get the music from this awesome game, but it wasn't online anywhere, and Nintendo hasn't released a comprehensive soundtrack yet, so I decided to do it meself. I recorded the Hyrule Field theme as well as the Hidden Villiage Showdown (at least, that's what I call the part where you snipe all the orcs in the villiage).
Sorry, a bit long, but I'll be uploading those soon, just as soon as I edit them for time and compress them into workable file sizes.
Whoa, it's late, time for bed...
UPDATE to an update: 6/18/07
yeah, I just figured out this evening as I was working on editing the sound files that I had my Wii set to Mono when I recorded them 0.o
so now I've gotta re-record them.
D'OH!
