COMMISSIONS are OPEN
Posted 13 years agoEdit 2: I will be able to reply to your requests in detail soon! ( I work all day today and need to leave soon, but I'll get to your requests tonight!)
Edit: Filling out the form isn't a mandatory thing guys, its just a guide if you're having trouble. Sorry, should have pointed that out earlier.
Commissions are OPEN
Hi guys! Commissions are open! I don’t open for large batches often, so here is your chance to get art by me! I am a part time illustrator for the time being, so if you have a deadline in mind (need a badge in time for a convention, etc.) be sure to mention that and we'll see if it's do-able.
I will also be picking and choosing ideas. This is not first come first served! I feel this method is a fair approach for people in different time zones.
-You may express your interest here in the comments or contact me by e-mail at artofsekhmet(AT)gmail.com . Please be specific with your ideas). I have a helpful link here to help you formulate your idea: http://www.artofsekhmet.net/?page_id=102
-I will contact you if you made it onto the commissions list.
-PAYPAL ONLY please.
-I will need : your image description, references, as well as the type of commission you wish to have from the list (Full illustration, Spot Illustration, etc).
Prices will vary per description, so please do not send me payment until I confirm your order and final price! I will give you the go and address once it’s time to send payment. Payment must be made in a reasonable amount of time in order to keep your slot.
Here is my Price List ! http://www.artofsekhmet.net/?page_id=92
Be sure to check out my TOS. http://www.artofsekhmet.net/?page_id=86
Types of commissions I’m offering:
-Badges
-Digital Icons
-ACEOS
-Bookmarks
-Full Illustrations
-Spot Illustrations
I currently do not have samples for every single type of commission, but my recent uploads are a good representation of my work and skills.
Most of these are available in both Digital (Photoshop) and Traditional media (watercolor, colored pencils, acrylics). A high resolution file is sent to the commissioner for digital art, and the commissioner may request the physical piece of artwork for traditional pieces (shipping to be paid by the commissioner).
My favorite themes are felines, mythology, fantasy scenes and powerful ladies, but I am open to a variety of subject matter. I am totally okay with drawing tasteful nudes (very fun for me!), but I will not be drawing any porn (intercourse, masturbation, or extreme fetishes). I am comfortable drawing males, females and pretty much any species. I do studies of unfamiliar subjects prior to starting commissions. If you are not sure, ask! :)
I look forward to bringing your characters to life!
Thanks for looking!

Yup, I'm on Weasyl
Posted 13 years agoHey there!
Now that there are more folks on Weasyl (we are now able to invite folks), I'll advertise my account here: https://www.weasyl.com/profile/sekhmet ! I've been there since the launch of the site, but unfortunately I'm already out of invites. Users are allowed 10 a month. I think the people who signed up recently need to wait before they can send invites out--but that's what I heard. The site is in beta, invites are not a forever thing so do not worry.
No, I am not ditching FA for Weasyl, that's a bit premature since the site is still in Beta. But I really like what I see so far! :) I am not re-uploading my entire gallery there, just a few favorites and I will go from there :)
Thanks for looking!

Still alive!
Posted 13 years agoHello there :)
I haven't been really active here because I've been busy with my move and my second job. But it went well, I am still getting settled in but the worst of it is over. My studio is set up pretty nice :D
I am currently working on Hida's commissions in between my part time job. Commissions should open again soon, but closer to the fall.

ANTHROCON 2012! // Short Hiatus // Commissions
Posted 13 years agoHello everyone! It's that time of year again! I will have artwork for sale in the Anthrocon Artshow this year. Follow the link to see what I will have available! http://artofsekhmet.tumblr.com/post.....n-artshow-2012
Thanks for looking! // Spreading the word. <3
For the record, I will not physically be at the convention. Once again the sweet
synnabar will be agenting for me. I do intend to make an appearance at some point at anthrocon(or any convention for that matter). It just wasn't in the cards again this year: My significant other and I decided to buy our first house! Which leads me into my next point:
For the next 2 weeks or so I will be on a short hiatus. I am moving into my house, and of course I will be busy with the move and unpacking at the new place. However, I will be setting up my studio space asap so I can finish my remaining commissions(3)! Then I will take a new batch of commissions for the year! So if you are interested in commissioning me, this is a heads up :)
Thanks for reading and have a creative day,
Sekhmet

Why is undercharging a bad idea?
Posted 13 years ago
wolf-nymph wrote a great blog about why it's not a good idea to under charge for your work: http://eskiworks.tumblr.com/post/24.....ing-a-bad-ideaBook Recommendations!
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone :)
I just thought I should let FA know that in addition to posting WIP's and sketches, I also post book recommendations on my tumblr. These are all books I have in my personal library and find very helpful --- so I wish to share them with everyone. http://artofsekhmet.tumblr.com/
You can also ask me things on tumblr http://artofsekhmet.tumblr.com/ask --can be about art related things or not!
Thanks for the follows so far, everyone :)

Trying out Tumblr! :) Do you have an account?
Posted 13 years agoI was curious about tumblr and am now trying it. It seems to be a nice networking platform compared to blogspot afterall. You can check out my page here! http://artofsekhmet.tumblr.com/ (still working out how I want my theme to look like. Bear with me!) I plan to post lots of art stuff :)
Also, I'm leaving the questions option ("ask me anything") open to anyone. If people start getting out of hand I'll put it to tumblr users only or disable it completely though. I am lucky so far people have been nice to me :)
Thanks for looking, and more art soon :))

SnowCat is offering cheap commissions!
Posted 13 years agoHi guys! If you haven't already, you really ought to check out
snowcat's page! She has great artwork , and is suuuper professional! I fail to understand why she doesn't have more of a following for her art (especially considering all she's tried so far), shes a really hard working artist and needs more watchers ;__;
She is also offering some inexpensive icon commissions ($10.00 0___0) which is a total steal for her quality of work!
Thanks for reading! Do spread the word if you can? Thank you! :)

Posted 13 years agoHello everyone,
I am very flattered after months of not posting personal art to see the wonderful feedback to my "Cradle of Starlight" piece. I really wasn't expecting that since it's a small simple little piece. Thank you very much for your kindness, I feel very encouraged. :)
If I didn't reply to your comments, no worries, I haven't forgotten. I just do not have access to a computer all day in order to reply for the next few days.
Thanks again,

Art Show: Suggest Painting Ideas!
Posted 14 years agoHello :)
I've started planning what I'm going to draw /paint for the AC artshow this summer(I need to start early since I might be moving).
I'm interested to know what species or themes you would consider buying? What has been popular, even? (I don't get to go to these shows so I don't get to see for myself!)
I believe I will be doing both the General Show and the Adult one. Suggest species/themes for both! I'd be happy to hear your ideas :))
Thank you for your time,
Sekhmet

Update: Commissions, Art Progress, Etc!
Posted 14 years agoHello everyone :)
I realize I haven't posted in alittle while here. I am still alive! Around the holidays I got very busy (like everybody else) and took a bit of a hiatus for myself to rejuvinate. I have at least 3 personal pieces started, plus a few commissions. Since I'm working on several things at once, and work another job outside of commissions, I didn't have the time to finish anything yet, haha!
But art is on the way. I haven't forgotten about my art blog either, its just a matter of at least getting sketches in the "presentable" stage before posting :P
I am nearly done my batch of commissions, so I do intend on taking more commissions within the next month or so (give or take). I am *slightly* augmenting my commission prices, particularily in the traditional art category. I discovered that some techniques, subject matter, etc take more effort than I charged for--so that will be adjusted but it's nothing dramatic.
Another (rather unexpected) event that recently occured is my significant other and I have decided we are ready to purchase our first home. This process will be very time consuming but I'm willing to work overtime on art to make sure I get enough done regardless of this. I still want to send art to the anthrocon artshow, etc.
Soo, thats whats up with me, mostly.
I hope to share more art with you soon, thank you for reading. :)

Artist Meme!
Posted 14 years ago* What sort of artist would you most identify yourself as?
Illustrator
* What would be your secondary identity?
Concept artist (in the character/creature design department mostly)
* What forms of art do you dabble in, but don't excel at?
Writing, paleo art (reconstructing creatures from a skeleton-love it- but not super awesome at it yet and haven't done enough of it), I also love to sing(when im alone. SHYSHYSHY).
* How would you describe your 'style'?
Good question. I sometimes feel like I don't have a set style. I would go with Semi-realistic.
* What medium do you favor most?
I really enjoy watercolour, acrylics, colored pencils, markers and digital painting.
* What are your favorite subject matters?
I love drawing animals--but drawing felines(of course) are some of my favorite because their anatomical features are so dramatic and expressive. Prehistoric creatures(particularily the age of mammals) are so interesting to me, and I love to draw them when I can. I love armor, weapons, themes involving magick, epic battles, strong female characters and warriors. I enjoy illustrating scenes/stories. Drawing intricate costumes, ancient cultures, etc...the list can go on! X3
* What are your least favorite subject matters?
Surprisingly I actually draw A LOT of humans on my free time- for anatomy practice. But I wouldn't draw them for myself because I simply don't find them all that interesting. I also don't like much modern stuff: such as cities and buildings, cars --that sort of thing. I believe to be a well rounded artist, its good to learn to draw these things--but I dont have to like it :P
* List your Artistic Strengths
Thats a hard question because I feel like I need to improve everything all the time. But I feel I have a good grasp of anatomy, the feline form, watercolour and color pencil rendering.
* List your Artistic Weaknesses
Lighting, perspective , getting poses to be less stiff and more loose/dynamic
* Which of the above weaknesses would you most like to see improve?
All of them! It's very important! For the record I would LOVE to be awesome at digital art! And get better at acrylic painting and oils!
* Adult Content. . . yes/no?
Yes for tasteful nudity. I find that very fun. I don't mind other artists drawing more intense stuff--I just never really adored it all that much when drawing it myself. Also, I have a bit of paranoia about potential employers finding that sort of thing in my galleries online if they search me.
* Adult Subject Matter you favor?
Tasteful nudity , cute pinuppy stuff
* Schooling/Training received in the arts?.
Besides teaching myself for years, I've recently graduated from Illustration and Design with honors. For the record, it's a lot of hard work that comes from you. You won't automatically get better if you go to art school. They show you new techniques and media, but you have to apply yourself if you want to get better. I know tons of people that I went to school with that barely improved because they never practiced on their free time.
* Schooling/Training you'd still like to have?
I'd like to continue studying at a great school that teaches more about colour/light/ and spends more time on teaching anatomy and live model practice. My school was alright, I just felt they rushed through a lot of the important stuff(cuz they couldnt cram so much in 3 years).
* Would you consider yourself prolific, or a 'quality over quantity' sort of artist?
For the time being, I'm defs a quality over quantity artist. I have problems with over analyzing my illustrations for flaws and I tend to get a bit obsessed with it and thats partly why it takes me a little longer to get a piece done. I would honestly like to be a bit more prolific and try and "let go" of trying to make everything look perfect (because perfection doesn't exist, it will always be flawed in some way). I want to learn how to draw faster, for sure- but still maintaining a level of quality. I think that comes with more practice!
* Would you considering yourself a Fine Artist, or a Commercial Artist?
Commercial
* Where would you like to be in five years?
Doing what I love. I would be happy to have my own little online store, still doing commissions/art from home full time. I'd like to be attending conventions and doing more art shows. A life of art is the life for me :))
Thank you for reading!

So far I really like blogger/blogspot. I am curious about people's experiences with tumblr.
The idea here is to use one as a sketch/art blog. Why ? Purely because I don't want to get spammy filling everyones FA inboxes with my doodles, sketches and works in progress. People seem to be interested in seeing art-process (step by step) so I think it would be a good place to showcase that too.
Of course, from time to time I would post the best sketch to here, then with a link to the blog to the rest of the arts. I think it would be fun to have my own little sketch blog :) - The idea is not to post ALL of it to FA, but still have a place to show the thought and art process.
PS: you can view my art progress(commissions) on my website. The link is in my profile info on the main page. :3

Anthrocon!
Posted 14 years agoHello!
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who bought my prints at Synnabar's table, or bid/bought artwork of mine in the artshow!
To answer a few recurrent questions: I do not physically go to any conventions for now. I just finished school, and need to put money aside for various reasons. :)
Also: I do take commissions, but currently have a full plate. You can contact me regardless with your idea for a quote.
As for the show:
I think I did well! Sold 15/18 pieces, and have confirmation that at least 1 of them made it to the voice auction. I don't know many more details or the final total, or if any more got to the voice auction because I believe Synnabar was busy at her table and couldn't make it to the voice auctions.
Either way I think I did okay considering most of my pieces were prints, and I had fewer originals due to lack of time from graduating this year. Overall, I'm happy this went down well!
Excited for next year's show, I'll have much more time to prepare!
Thanks again everyone! You are awesome!
-Sekhmet
PS: More art on the way...there are a few pieces I cannot upload for awhile because they are special projects(that is why I havent uploaded much recently!)

Obligatory Anthrocon Journal XD (look at what im selling!)
Posted 14 years agoMy art made it on time this year, horray! TAKE THAT, POST OFFICE 8| - Lets hope this year makes up for last year 's mishap ;_;
I do not have a ton of new artworks, or originals because I just finished college. It simply did not allow much time for new artwork this year. Even if I was making art in my classes, most of it was not animal/anthro art XD.
Many of these artworks are inexpensive L.E prints! Please do me a favour and take them off my hands. ;_; Iwill love you forever! <3
I will also have a few print packets for sale at Synnabar’s table C09. 4 signed Prints for only $10.00! (in a pretty baggie :))

COMMISSIONS are finally OPEN! /EDIT: CLOSED
Posted 14 years agoEDIT 2: Commissions are closed! I had to set a "cut off point" because I actually have a lot of work to manage now. Don't want to take on more than I can manage!
Thanks for your interest guys! I am really excited to make art for you :D
EDIT: Thanks everyone for your interest! To those who sent me e-mails, I will finish sending replies in the morning. I spent a good deal of time cleaning my studio tonight and finishing my other chores in order to free up my time for commissions. Feel free to still send in your requests for "Small Commissions". More commission updates will be made regularly via https://twitter.com/#!/ArtofSekhmet
I am accepting commissions! yay! :D
I am looking forward to bringing your characters to life! I haven’t been open for commissions in the longest time, so I am quite excited!
(Wolf-Nymph kindly let me use some elements of her TOS/Price List pages to get me started :), thanks again Nym!)
Here is my PRICE LIST: http://www.artofsekhmet.net/?page_id=92
Here are my Terms Of Service : http://www.artofsekhmet.net/?page_id=86
A page I created to help you formulate your image description: http://www.artofsekhmet.net/?page_id=102
I currently do not have recent samples for every single type of commission, but my recent uploads are a good representation of my work.
I will take 5 "Large” Commissions
1.Hida
2.Hida
3.Sareena
4.Sareena
5.J_Kougar
There is currently no limitation of slots for “small commissions”, since I do not know the demand for these kinds of products yet. I will set a “cut off point” when I feel I have enough work for that category and list it here.
Feel free to e-mail me or post here to request a spot. No need to rush; I am not doing this on a first come first served basis this round.
I will need : your image description, references, as well as the type of commission you wish to have from the list in the link above (Full illustration, Spot Illustration, etc).
Prices will vary per description, so please do not send me payment until I confirm your order and final price! I will give you the go and address once it’s time to send payment. Payment must be made in a reasonable amount of time in order to keep your slot.
I am now a nearly full time illustrator, and will be drawing frequently, so these should get done in a much more timely manner in comparison to when I was studying.
You can follow my commission progress on my art twitter, which will be frequently updated:
https://twitter.com/#!/ArtofSekhmet
You can also find my production queue on my website:
