Bachelor's Degree, ho!
Posted 3 years agoHuh...so after three and a half years of situations getting in the way, including my own laziness and concerns that I've been wasting my time...
After thirty-eight and a half years on this miserable, anxiety-inducing ball of dirt and water...
After all this...
I finally have a Bachelor's degree...and in an area of study that I'm actually happy with.
Racc has a Bachelor's in Data Management and Analysis.
Snazzy.

Well, that was heartbreaking... (tiny rant)
Posted 4 years agoI did something today that I was absolutely dreading to do: I went and cleaned out my watch list. Accounts that have voluntarily deactivated, accounts that haven't seen postings in years (the average was about 6 year, the longest stretch was 13), alt accounts that are there for archival purposes...It was quite a bit.
I started at around 681 on this list. I am now down to 251.
Ooooh boy. A lot of talent has come and gone in the last decade and a half, hasn't it? But that's the nature of it all. Things appear, are awesome, then fade. I miss a bunch of 'em. At the same time, though, there's always new talent coming in to show us what they've got. There's never going to be a shortage of stuff to enjoy.
So, to those who have faded, thank you for the memories. I'm fairly certain I've got my favorite pieces of your work stored somewhere on a flash drive.
To those still here, keep on rocking. I know I will.
And to those who are new, welcome. I look forward to seeing what you bring to the table.
I've been here for what seems like forever, and by god, I'll be here long after most of you are gone, keeping the records and telling the tales.

Oh, and before I forget, in case you missed my last journal, I wrote dialog for a video game. You can find it here:

I am also working on another project with these weirdos. Keep an ear to the ground for that.

So...uh...I have a game credit to my name...
Posted 5 years agoIt's a new year, and I'm living in a new place. Moved out of Florida and in with some of friends (at least until we get jobs. Cost of living is cheaper here).
And...one of them roped me into a Global Game Jam to write for it. It's...been published on the Global Game Jam site.
Pick it up here and enjoy:
https://globalgamejam.org/2021/game.....eres-grandpa-4
This is not how I was expecting to get my writing published, but by god, I'll take it. One of my life goals has now, technically, been completed.

Oops...
Posted 6 years agoYeah, final part is coming along slowly. My bad. Quite a few factors here.
1) Frank, my mutant hodge podge of laptop parts is finally dying-dying. Went out and invested in a significantly better computer. This is going to be a distraction, as I went all out and got something with an actual video card. Still more than I needed, but it was either this or a 256 GB HDD, which no.
2) School. This year, I get my Oracle SQL and Database Admin certifications to go along with my CompTIA A+, Network+, and Project+ stuff.
3) As of February 8th, I no longer have a job. The company I work for has decided to restructure everything, and my senior tech position has been phased out. It was either take a huge paycut and part time hours at a job I hate, or quit. Oh, what's that? Student loans came in and taxes are coming down the pipe? I have a huge safety net that will last me for most of the year?
On a completely unrelated note, I hear that you may want to start dumping stock in Office Depot.
I'll have more time soon. I'll get the rest of the start of this thing out soon enough. Please be patient.

Huh...10 to go...
Posted 6 years agoYou know, I didn't really notice it, like, ever...but it's only taken me 13 years to put out 90 submissions. Of course, some of those are not my creation (art and all), but still...
Almost at 100.
Almost at 100.
Let's Keep Things Rolling
Posted 6 years agoI was able to pour something out on September 1st. That made me feel proud.
I was able to follow it up. That made me feel great.
I've got a blueprint on how I want this to go from here. That's more than I usually have.
I sincerely hope the five of you looking at these things are enjoying it.
Expect more soon.

Posted 6 years agoIt's backup day! Got myself a fresh hard drive to copy all of my flash drives into one location.
...which means I located the art pile I've been growing since I started in this fandom... *checks* ...oh, fuck has it been 20 years already?
Okay, new wound aside...
I did find my art pile. It's reminded me of how many artists have stopped producing. How many have just shuffled out of the fandom out of disinterest, or out of anger.
...or death, really. I have a couple of bits from artists who have passed.
Holy fuck, I miss 'em.
Reminder to the artists out there, whether I like your work or not. You guys are fucking awesome. Let nobody tell you otherwise.
Or I'll bite them.

All right. I'm going to go into details here.
Over the last seven years (according to the archive, I last posted 4 years ago. It was...eh...), I have:
-lost family members
-lost a pet
-graduated with an AA in Computer Information Technology
-re-enrolled in another college for Data Analysis (as this was the only way I could get my database administration certifications).
-got A+ certified (meaning I have professional backing that says "He knows how to do tech stuff and repairs"
-been forced to move all over the damn place, with the current moving landing me in Hell...erm...Florida.
-I'm fairly certain I have some sort of Anxiety Disorder and Depression. Haven't gone to be evaluated because my insurance has been in flux and, oh yes, last time I tried I had a REALLY bad experience.
As such, I have not been in a writey mood.
I'm not calling my latest post a comeback, but it is a good sign.
Or...a bad sign. This fell out because I've been stressed out at work and my normal means of relaxation have been failing utterly and completely.
I do plan on getting the rest of this tale out - Glenn's fight, Victor's fight, and the after party.
I cannot guarantee that I will succeed.
I thank you for your patience.

10:45 am EST
My beloved cat, Maya, passed away in the middle of her final petting session.
I kept my promise, baby girl. I saw you off at the very end. I know you know you were loved. Thank you for one final purr before you went.
I love you.

I didn't even make it to 12 hours...
Posted 8 years ago...and I'm already done with 2018.
So, year in review, 2017 I lost a grandfather and an uncle to liver cancer. Both were self-inflicted due to drinking. On top of that, my other uncle is one-and-a-half feet in the grave due to the exact same thing. Christmas-time, my mother-in-law ends up in hospice care due to lung cancer from years of smoking like a chimney. Find out today that she's not coming home, at least alive. She won't even survive the transport. So she's staying in the hospital until she expires...
...which means we're either finding better jobs and accommodations up here in Michigan (since we were living with her to take care of her in her illness) or going back down to Florida to live with my brother, his wife, and their kids.
I mean, it's great and all that we have a backup plan should our primary plan fail, but fuck the last 6 months!

Attention Nerds, Geeks, Card Collectors, and Dr. Alphys
Posted 10 years agoPapa Wolf (my old man) has been emptying out his collection of OLD geeky stuff, and has such, has gotten in contact with me looking to find people to unload it.
Y'all are into this stuff, right? Here's the first list of things he's asked me to get rid of.
These are all collectible cards, and according to him, all factory sealed:
-AD&D (1992) Factory set - 2nd addition
-AD&D (1991) Factory set - 2nd addition
-AD&D (1993) Factory set - 2nd addition
-AD&D (1992) Fantasy collector cards - 2nd addition
-Magic: The Gathering Collector's Edition

A Bit of Help: Unprofessional School
Posted 10 years agohttp://www.gofundme.com/8azvmvtc
That is a GoFundMe set up by my lady-type's classmates in regards to something their school did.
Situation: My lady, as well as maybe 23 others (can't confirm that; the class size maxes out at 24), were to be a part of the Wayne County Community College District's (WCCCD) Vet Tech program. The classes should have started on the 12th.
I say "should have" because they decided to cancel the program...and didn't tell anyone until 10 am the morning OF THE 12th, a mere 7-8 hours before classes were to begin. This, despite the fact that they have been sending students of this program paperwork to get in order and sending them reminders to have everything - equipment, books, etc - ready to go UP UNTIL the 11th of the month.
As it stands right now, they are trying to put the blame on everyone but themselves and have been wholly uncooperative with the students they have fucked over.
My Request: If you can, kick a couple of pennies over to the GoFundMe thing so they can get a law group to go "the fuck?" on their behalf. If you cannot, please signal boost this. I know a lot of us have been through college, and I'm pretty certain there's a number of us that may have gone through this exact same thing.
Also, if anyone knows where I can get my hands on a set of red robes (three sets, if possible) and a REALLY wide brimmed red hat, I'd be most appreciative.

Total Annihilation
Posted 10 years agoDid anyone else play this game back in the late 90s/early 2000s?
Thing was bloody friggin' fantastic.
And now that Good Old Games made it Windows 8 compatible a while back, and I just discovered people are STILL developing for it (units, mods, maps, unofficial patches, etc), I'm kinda curious if anyone still does play it.
...anyone? Anyone WANT to play? I've currently got Escalation installed.
