Hell of a Find at the Salvation Army Today
Posted 10 years agoSo, they called me into work to cover a shift...had some time, so I poked my head into the Salvation Army store next door. Found myself two things:
1) A copy of the Super Mario 64 Official Soundtrack (which was a thing I didn't know existed).
2) A japanese Shenlong Gundam model kit from Bandai, everything still on the little plastic framed and those frames still in plastic bags.
I should go there at stupid o'clock more often.

Heroes of the What Now?
Posted 10 years agoI visit a website rather frequently; you may know of The Escapist, yes?
Well, I found an article recently about something or other that caught my attention. It was a good article.
Log in this morning (because I have an account; sometimes, their forum discussions are worth getting involved in) to find out that, because I read the article, I won a free beta key for Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm.
A game I have had little interest in.
...now what?

Coincidentally, I have activated it on my account for friends to come and watch me suck at video games. If you wish, add me at MicahWeil, naturally (if you see Cobra Commander's mirrored mug, you have the right guy), and let me know who you are so I don't reject your friend request. The Problems With Going Back to College at 29
Posted 11 years agoVent time? Vent time.
So, after years of abuse at the hands of retailers and retail cutomers, I decided to go back to school. Currently, I'm in the advanced English class. A couple of weeks ago, we had an essay due on a VERY difficult subject. Even the teacher said "I may have fucked up with my topic choice". Still, I trundled through, did the best I could, and was ready to accept a failing grade if it came down to that.
I am, after all, an adult.
But no, mostly due to some loudmouth manchild (who also happens to be a "bro") in the class, that essay ended up getting tossed out and we had to do another one for the grade. We were given the most base, elementary subject in the world (probably to accommodate Mr "How the fuck did you get in this class, you simpleton"): Where do you see yourself in five years?
A tad bit indignant that all my hard work from the other essay got tossed aside, I went and wrote one of the most sarcastic pieces of work I've ever wrote, stating that I see myself on the road to World Domination, if not having already reached it, in five years. I actually wrote a disclaimer for the essay in order to avoid getting in trouble with the school, authorities, and ending up in a mental institute again.
Anyone think I should post it for the shits and giggles?

Posted 11 years agoSo, after a year of useless flailing, the company decided to shut my store down. No surprise there. The store was so poorly run, I'm surprised we lasted that long. It's not like it's gonna hurt, either. I've got student loans I can slowly use up in the meantime, and they're not denying me unemployment. So funds are fine for now. The job hunt goes on.
That still leaves one question...
What the hell do the unemployed do for fun? x.X

Everyone does these at one point or another, be it for their characters or themselves.

...yeah, I'm out. No, no, no, No, NO.
The only thing that should be horrifying at the Chuck E. Cheeze is when parents get drunk and have fights, and we're restricting that ONLY to Florida! ><

Eh, I'm not bothered. Got a back-up plan already.

Posted 11 years agoSo hi! How are you?
Any questions?
Any questions?
So I have a wholly unique problem...
Posted 11 years agoOn the 11th, my grandmother passed away. This is not the problem.
My father went down to Florida to see her off. He's hurting something bad, but again, this is not the problem.
My aunt, his sister, went down to see her off as well. She's hurting something bad. Again, this is not the problem.
I find out, after work today, that instead of trying to, you know, commiserate with my father over the death, to find some sort of solace and peace with the situation, she has decided to ATTACK him because she's a Roman Catholic and my father is, for better lack of a term, a Druid.
See the problem?
So, I ask you folks this:
I am not that much of a fan of my aunt. As a matter of fact, as far back as I can remember her, I have not liked her. I've no qualms, even now, of going on the offensive. Any suggestions?

June Fucking Sucks
Posted 11 years agoSo, in...21 days, it will have been a solid year since my mother left for Valhalla to go torment some vikings - when she died, for those of you that did not know the sheer awesome crazy that was my mother and/or absolutely lack an imagination. Honestly? That's about it for that. I mourned, I got over it, and people have stated that they were quite worried about how quickly I did it.
Seriously, the process went call father in middle of dinner, find out, assure him everything is fine, go back to dinner. I didn't need to mourn. You don't mourn awesome; you know it's just gone off to treat another portion of reality to its brilliance. I am confident that, as I have stated, there are a bunch of vikings running around in the Norse Afterlife, frantically guarding any orifice they fear the safety of because of the 110 lb woman that was, at one point, powered by Pepsi, coffee, and cigarettes, and that spawned me.
But that's not for another 21 days. So, why does this month suck?
Well, it does suck - for my family. My father is currently getting ready to head down to Florida to say goodbye to his mother, my grandmother, who the doctors have discovered 1) has bone cancer, and 2) which has just gone terminal. Predictions are that she won't last for another couple of days...which is perfectly understandable. She's my grandmother, mother to my NEARLY 60 YEAR OLD FATHER. She's old. She's falling apart. Shit, from everything I've heard, she's roughly 20% metal at this point!
My grandmother is more cyberpunk than I am! ><
So, in a few days, I am expecting my father to shoot me a message stating that my mother has finally fallen apart and kicked this mortal coil. This is, of course, going to be a bit of an issue.
See, the reason I recapped what happened with my mother is because it's about to repeat itself.
It's not that I don't NEED to mourn. I'm probably going to be a bit sullen once I get the news. It's going to pass, though. Quickly.
I don't do the whole weepy, tears, taking time off from work, boo-hoo stuff that seems to be a staple for society.
My grandmother's about to die, and the only thing I am thinking is "Oh dear christ, now I'm going to have to put up with every single last member of my family falling apart." I do mean EVERY LAST MEMBER, too. We're Italian; you lose family, it gets...loud. And weepy.
And pretty goddamn ridiculous...and I say this having witnessed the funeral of a southern black family, a New York Puerto Rican family, and a Jewish Shivah.
So why am I posting this here, if all that this death is getting out of me is an eyeroll and a facepalm? Pity? Sympathies? No, I don't want any of that.
I just need to say what's on my mind...because if I post it anywhere else, I will have exactly two weeks worth of training from the point that my grandmother's remains get...whatever they're going to do with them...before I have three generations of family hauling it to kick my ass all over the state.
At least my mother will have a partial-conversion 'borg to torment the afterlife with.

Reading Rainbow Kickstarter
Posted 11 years agoYa know, after posting about this on Facebook THIS MORNING, and then seeing it on another FA journal, it suddenly strikes me to post this. Because it's relevant to me.
https://www.kickstarter.com/project.....-child-everywh
See this here? It's a kickstarter being done by LeVar Burton. You probably remember him from one of two things:
1) He was Geordi LaForge on Star Trek: The Next Generation
2) He was the host of Reading Rainbow.
If you do not remember who he is because you've never seen either, then what the hell are you doing on my page? o.o
Anyway...he's running this little kickstarter. Since Reading Rainbow ended in 2009 on TV, they developed an app for phones, tablets, etc. He wants to expand it into a web browser capable thing, and then make it available to kids who can't afford it.
I DON'T THINK I NEED TO TELL YOU HOW BLOODY IMPORTANT THIS IS.
If you can't donate any money to this kickstarter, then spread the word.

Posted 11 years agoSo, starting tomorrow (as the flight is today), I will be in NYC.
There will be much sightseeing, so shopping, and (probably much to my lady's dismay) a lot of me walking around the old neighborhood going "THEY CHANGED IT TOO MUCH! D:"...
Maybe all I need is a quick trip to get my muse back into gear, even for a little bit.
