Comms
Posted a year agoSo, I think I'm ready to start taking commissions. I've been really into making badges lately, but if you have any ideas on projects that you think will fit my style I would love to hear them!

Rain Furrest (Drug Cub 2012)
Posted 13 years agoMan that rocked. Staffed half the con, partied half the con; cross faded most the day. Sold two pieces in the art show. Met a bunch of really cool people. Touched them inappropriately. Danced my stripes off. Judgement on the brink the whole weekend. It was like a wave of amazingly good looking people mixed with surges of angry post-hipster furs. Odd to encounter that. Lots of cubs. Numerous drugs. Good to see.
On the matter of
Posted 13 years agoGod. Well, art really. Saying God kind of draws a bit of negative attention in almost any context. Yet I think at the very core of beauty we find God, or perhaps vice versa. Isn't art, in some of its capacities, meant to embody and depict beauty? So then isn't the quest a spiritual one in some sense, the effort to depict God. Thats what art should be.

Its hard to explain
Posted 14 years agoThe Gardenhead knows my name.
Leave me alone, you know this isn't the first time in fact this twice in a row..
And I don't wish the taste of your insides or to call your name out through my phone...
All these crows
this city of humid
I just want to dance in
your tangles
to give me a reason to
move
So I will meet you up
high in your anger
A love that is hoping and
waiting
For u

chrisgoodwin . Soon I will color it. Hows you?The Nature of Art/ What are you saying?
Posted 14 years agoI've had this conversation with a lot of people, about the intrinsic nature of art, what illustration and what art is, if there is a difference. What art is or is not. Long winded conversations with big words and heavy sighs of exasperation at my own inability to fully articulate what I am looking for in art. Lots of hours have been spent in academia and out of it too, attempting to define art, which is chasing wind.
Look at the art in the latest submissions. What do you think these people are saying with each of their pieces? What are you saying with the pieces that you post? Is that worth saying? Hmmmmm...
Most of my perspectives on art are filtered through my faith. The doctrinal answer of what art is, or more what it should do, is bring glory to God. That is a pat answer however. I think if we look at the nature of God (a much deeper rabbit hole than the nature of Art) we find these ideas of Love, and beauty, and acceptance. Purity. Hope. Truth. Huge abstract ideas filtered down into what? Art?
What is art? What is beauty? Please leaves post structuralism and post modernism at the door, while they are valid they reek of nihilism. Love. Isn't that what has to push us? In all senses.

Rainy Days/Manga
Posted 14 years agoAre nice. They let me slow down a bit. Been skate boarding a bit more lately. Its crazy how quick I pick up new tricks. Wish I Was that way with drawing. Give it a few more months.
Anyway, been devouring Manga. Any suggestions on what to read? Geeking out on Neon Genesis Evangelion and Usagi Yojimbo, as well as Gundam. Who are some of your favorites?

Art
Posted 14 years agoDoes creating art make one neurotic? This is a question. I do not think that the act of creating art itself leads to neurotic behavior. I Do believe that a certain tension must be maintained in life to create art, however. This is a romantic notion, I know. Seems to me that in the points of life when I am closest to "The brink" I am more driven. Perhaps more desperate. A controlled desperation.
Comic Books
Posted 15 years agoOK so I have been reading a lot of Starman lately, amongst other things. Excellent story. I am finding there is more to the comic than art, but the art is what usually grabs me. I am huge Gaiman fan too. The way he portrays dream and death. Mind you I can only really snag what is at the library but, what comics do you guys like? Any suggestions?
So, I guess top 5 lately...
1.)Starman
2.)Sandman
3.)Wolverine (frank miller)
4.)Old Spiderman
5.) X-Force
What about you guys?

Love
Posted 15 years agoThere has been this verse rolling around in my head lately.
If I Can speak in the tongues of men and angels and have all faith to move mountains yet have not love I am but a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
It reminds me that I can have all these gifts and abilites and talents given to me and refined but if I am not loving the people around me then its all for naught. Call into play what love really is. Patient. Kind. Man, those two things already have problems with. Mad impatient, kind of a troll.
