2/28 A.Wasabi, 3/7 Paws@Pearl (ok'd!), Weasyl, & NDK move!
Posted 10 years agoHey y'all!
So, really quickly, I just wanted to let y'all know that I'll be at Animeland Wasabi for at least this Saturday! Not necessarily for the con itself, but I did have loads of fun being rowdy with a bunch of other fursuiters last year -- so even if this year is gonna be at a significantly smaller hotel, hopefully I'll be able to have fun in a big group again! [I pre-reg'd for the weekend, and I might stop by other times since it's close by -- but otherwise Saturday is really gonna be the main day.]
I'll be getting there hopefully some time between 4:00 & 5:00 PM, due to work earlier in the day. At that time -- well, hopefully I'll be able to find parking; I know we AW attendees collectively tend to pack any place, no matter the size of the hotel. I'll probably pick up dinner and eat it at the hotel, walk around out of suit for a while, saying hi to cosplayer friends and the like, locate other suiters, and then I'll be getting into suit myself! [Still deciding who to suit as.]
Also, regarding Paws at Pearl on Saturday, March 7 -- I was planning on making it, but it turns out that my work is gonna need me that day. I'm gonna see if my boss would be okay with me only working until 11:00 AM, so that I can be there by noon -- but, no guarantee on that. If I can't make it for the suiting portion, then I'll at least try seeing if I can join up for post-suiting hangouts.
[I know Kodywulf has set up a backup date of 3/21 in case of inclement weather, but sadly I know I'll be working a full day then!]
[For anyone who has yet to see the Meetup listing, you can find it here!]
[ UPDATE 2015.2.26: Got the okay from my boss, and so I'll be there! ]
And, I'm finally starting to get a bit more active on my Weasyl account! I, uh, finally uploaded to Weasyl the single photo I've had on FA. [I really should upload more.]
I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this; I think I might upload thumbnails to here, and full pics to there, to get more traffic there, but also to not have to deal with the 1280x1280 restriction. For journal entries though, I think I might crosspost them -- though, lemme tell you, it'd be nice to have more than 60 characters available for a journal title like FA provides.
But yeah, here's where I'm at on Weasyl!
Oh, and one more thing! I think a lot of people watching already know, but in case anyone doesn't -- due to the sudden announcement of 2016 renovations for the DTC Marriott, rendering half their rooms unusable for the year -- and also due to longstanding demand, Nan Desu Kan is moving hotels and dates! They're moving to the Sheraton Denver Downtown, and the best weekend they could get for the next three years is the first weekend of September, which this year is Friday, September 4 through Sunday, December 6.
Honestly, I wonder how these DTC Marriott renovations are also gonna affect StarFest & Rocky Mountain Fur Con in 2016. I know Rocky Mountain Fur Con still has plenty of room to grow into the hotel, so they may be able to weather it -- but StarFest is another huge con. That, and I know in general the DTC Marriott changed management last year (I think), and I remember hearing stories about some less-than-pleasant stories about that: I know some of you weren't happy with how you were cheated out of your room by their overselling, and were initially offered raw deals for alternate staying options.
A shame, cause I do have a lot of good memories from that hotel, even though, yeah, I do agree that it is getting too crowded for the larger cons.
Well -- if you'll be at an event that I'll be at, hope to see you there! Or if not, hope to see you at another event!

UPCOMING! 12/5 Louisville Parade, 12/6 Boulder Parade, more!
Posted 11 years agoHey y'all! I know I've got a lot of Denver/Boulder area watchers, so I thought I'd shout out about some upcoming events! Because, of course, the bigger the crowd, the merrier!
troj and I made it to this event last year! We pretty much just entertained folks on the sidelines, but it was still fun! I'd love to be able to participate in the parade this year, so I'll see about getting there a bit earlier. Whether you'd like to walk along or watch on the sidelines, either is cool!
I've been watching this event almost every year since about maybe 2003 (and got to participate in it in 2002!), and it's always been a great community-style event: lots of local businesses and community groups represented, and it's always been fun to see people's floats. It's been worth the hour's drive northwest for me, every time I go.
Last year, I got to suit on the sidelines! feathergills ended up handling, and we also happened to eventually meet up with troj (who, well, we wanted to meet up with before)! It was fun waving to a lot of the floats!
I've been thinking this year, though, that maybe I might also want to actually walk in the parade in suit! I would only have three days left (i.e. until November 19) to submit a $35 fee for a community group, unless they've already reached their 60-entry limit, but I was also wondering if anyone would be interested in walking along in the parade as well! [If so, if you're able, any possible contributions to the fee would be most welcome, but don't shy away if you can't contribute either!] [UPDATE: Scrapped this plan for this year; this is something I need to organize farther in advance, to get a better idea of who can participate. So I'll be on the sidelines!]
If you want to come and remain on the side to watch, suited or not, that should be fine, too!
Just one note: last year was super-cold that evening, so if the forecast looks the same this year & your suit isn't all that padded, you might want to consider wearing layers!
Just like the event we did back on September 20, except it should be much cooler and much better for suiting, and folks should be in the holiday spirit! Of course I'll be attending.
I've been attending this event since (I believe) its second year, and it's always been a fair amount of fun! There is a dress code, but I thankfully was able to find some super-extra-large formal wear for Luno (my wolf character) to wear, having to sew just the pants.
I'm actually considering getting a hotel room this year, because if I can find three other people to split it four ways, I'd only have to pay ~$25 (+ any taxes & fees) that night. And it'd be MUCH more fun than getting suited up outside in what's been a bitter cold in previous years. [That, and I'd have a break room right there in the hotel, and can just sleep afterwards instead of driving back.] We'd have until Monday, Dec. 1 to reserve a hotel room at the $91 (or $99?) dollar price -- so, anyone willing to join in?
If we have enough fursuiters there, then we could also do a photoshoot at some point!
And that's about it! Lot of stuff going on, and here's hoping you might be able to join in, too!
Also! I should mention that I'm considering making Weasyl my primary furry social media account! Granted, I still have to set up there, and I know many more people here, so it made sense to post this message here -- but I'll let you know how that progresses. In the meantime, here's the link to my Weasyl account; I only have one favorited item there thus far.

Awesome mascot performances: Goooly, IIHF IHWC2011, Slovakia
Posted 11 years agoSo yeah, character performance is a thing I like to focus on. I like to work on body animation, expressive things I can do with the character, ways I can be really goofy, or excited, or cute, or whatever the situation calls for -- and I've had a lot of fun working on things like that! It's to the point that I may be co-organizing a fursuit performance panel at next year's Rocky Mountain Fur Con, especially because I've had a lot of people tell me they really like how I perform.
Of course, learning is a never-ending journey. I watch stuff like this, and realize that *I* still have a lot to learn, too.

This is Goooly, who appears to be the mascot from the 2011 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia.
Of course, there's a lot of stuff I wouldn't be able to do for liability reasons (er, not to mention lack of skill & courage) -- but even just the energy the mascot expresses, the level of animation that performer has -- it's amazing. I'm gonna have to study, practice, and build some of that animation & energy level. Gotta STEP IT UP some notches!
Also, yeah, this is emphasizing that I need to keep making future muzzles floppy, like Diago's.

Nan Desu Kan 2014!
Posted 11 years agoHey, so it's coming up this weekend!
I won't be in the costume contest this year -- basically decided that five weeks out with disappointment, though it ended up being the right choice -- but I'll at least be there to have fun and catch up with folks. Of course, I'll be suiting there: standard suiting, and hall-cosplaying what I entered last year, too. And of course, I'll be there late into the evenings on Friday and Saturday, especially for any dances.
For those of you also suiting there, there's gonna be a fursuit photoshoot at 4:00 PM on Saturday, same place as last year (by the main front entrance). I'm still trying to determine if I can make it myself, because I'm trying to determine if I want to do what someone did for me last year, and help handle someone in full-body cosplay in the costume contest. Green room for that starts at 4:30, and I'm trying to determine if I can fit both in.
In any case, hope to see some of you there!

A quick "I'll be at RMFC" post
Posted 11 years agoThere are a lot of con attendee questionnaires out there right now, so I'll just make it quick!
Of course I'm going, and I'll probably be hanging out Thursday evening toward the later end of pre-reg badge pickup (which is 3pm - 8pm this year), until likely the wee hours of Monday morning after the Sunday dance. I'm not staying in the hotel, as usual -- but this year, it's a much quicker trip back & forth.
Suiting up & clowning around is, of course, the main reason I go -- but the same time, though, I'll kinda pace out when I'm in suit so I'm not completely wiped out by the Saturday dance. Generally, though, you'll be able to find me as Diago, either in the halls, on the dance floor, or in the headless lounge.
Looking forward to having fun & catching up with folks this weekend!

UPDATE EDIT: Miracle happened, doing DCC Saturday afternoon
Posted 11 years ago[Original title: Unless a miracle happens, no Denver Comic Con for me]
Well, due to some confusion and poor information from my second job about just how much I was going to need to work this weekend (and then some) -- well, there's a longer story to it, but the short of it is that I find myself without any access to Saturday for the Denver Comic Con, and Saturday seems to be the only day I was cleared to work a couple hours.
The kicker is -- I'll be working an event where I'll be just a few blocks away from the Colorado Convention Center, and I start each day a couple hours before DCC opens, and an hour after it normally closes. 12 hour days, four consecutive days. Except for Saturday, where it would've counted.
So I figure, by any miracle, do you know someone unable to attend who has a pass to sell that would be good for Saturday?
[I'll probably delete this post after this weekend or so.]
EDIT: Found one! It's actually a bit of an awesome story, so I'll mention later. Because I need to get to sleep now.

Unesma enskribo en ca jurnalo! [1st entry in this journal!]
Posted 12 years agoSaluti, mea vidanti! Quale vi standas? Me esperas ke vi esas bone!
Hodie, ni esas dua dii ante Haloveno, quan es mea favorata tempo dil yaro! Me esperas partoprenor en festi fantasika en ca dio, e mem en la dii cirkondanta!
So, I've been studying the Ido language since about the start of August (though I'd known about it before), and it's been has been really fun & easy to learn! It's a reformed & improved version of Esperanto that was introduced in 1907 -- and here's what's been great about Ido overall:
• Its grammar, phonology, and lexicography are all regular, which is a lot of what makes it easy to learn.
• It uses the basic 26 letters without diacritics, so it can be typed with any keyboard.
• There are no word genders, and it's much more neutral (even if not perfectly so) about gender in general.
• It's a Romanic language, so my knowledge of Spanish has been helping me out a lot. It's also helped me become a bit more familiar with French and Italian, especially when looking up words in Ido.
The most time-consuming part has been studying the different affixes, but that's just like learning vocabulary, and they really expand on what one can do with the base words. Also, in both cases, it's pretty much learning and memorizing through long-term practice. Most everything I've been learning has been through IdoLinguo.co.uk, some through the Wikibook Easy Ido (even if it's incomplete), the Ido Wiktionary, and even the Ido for All book (warning: huge PDF; it's got a lot of examples for practice).
There are still things about Ido that I think could work better. The language hasn't changed much since 1922: as such, there are words that could be more respectful of race & orientation, and there's even one idea I have to make the optional gender affixes more neutral and less seemingly essentialist. Either way, that's all stuff that can be worked in, even if unofficially.
Overall, I've just been really impressed with the language -- and I'm taking every opportunity I can to practice it, with the aspiration of becoming fluent in it. I would really love to promote it as a bridge language, at the very least for international con-goers, if not for a greater number of people -- especially since it would be much easier to learn than the other languages off which it bases its vocabulary (English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, & Russian).
By the way, the above says the following:
Salutations, my watchers! How are you all? I hope that you're all well!
Today, we're two days before Halloween, which is my favorite time of year! I hope to take part in fantastic festivities on that day, and even on the days surrounding!
I was originally planning on writing a big post about how I've been doing, my experiences with RMFC and NDK, the bowling events and local Howl'o'ween party, and in general, my status and thoughts on improving time management -- but, that desire to write a big post tended to make me feel overwhelmed, which was a big part of the reason I wouldn't actually get around to actually writing the post out. That, and I've learned people (myself included) tend not to read massive posts: smaller ones are much easier to digest.
So, hey, there's a 101-level tip for time management that I should already be putting into practice: breaking tasks down into smaller & more manageable ones. As such, I'll be leaving those experiences for future posts.
I will at least say, though: if you want to check out photos from the latest bowling meet and Howl'o'ween event, check out the photos in KodyWulf's gallery! He's an aspiring photographer and videographer who has awesomely volunteered to take photos at several of these events. I've faved a couple of myself in my own gallery.
And here's a vid he took & edited of the bowling meet -- I show up at about 3m19s as Diago (which I guess'll be his name?), and, uh, my collar seems to have sunk below my neckruff:
Direct YouTube link
Final thing: I'll be up in Boulder this Halloween! Aside from some annual volunteer activities that I take part in, I'll also be checking out Pearl Street Mall that evening -- at least before it gets too wild there. If you're going to be up there, write a comment or send me a note!
I'll also be up there the day prior for an internship-related event, and I figure it'll be worth checking Pearl Street Mall that evening as well.
Do, kun tota iti dicita -- til la sequanta tempo, me esperas ke vi havas Felica Haloveno!
