Conbook success, colour theory success, lighting success....
Posted 7 years agoToday has been a great week, basically, as the title suggests!
I entered this piece http://www.furaffinity.net/view/26206116/ into the Vancoufur 2018 conbook, as they were looking for pieces of art to include in it, and I got word that it was accepted! Check out this tweet for proof :D https://twitter.com/MutleyArts/stat.....42560144072704
I was so uncertain on it as it admittedly wasn't one of my better pieces, but they obviously thought it was good enough to include alongside all the other seriously good pieces. A fur who went there got an extra conbook and is sending it to me, as a little souvenir for me to keep!
I really want to work on my painted pieces, and therefore did a painted headshot trade (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/26726314/) and watched hours upon hours of lighting and colour theory to learn form and such, and I really feel like it shows in my work. I still have so much to learn, especially about fur (as no matter how many videos I watch on it, I can't wrap my mind around it!). Here's a piece I'm currently working on, very slowly tbh, as I'm using this piece to learn so many new concepts. https://twitter.com/MutleyArts/stat.....01992125706242
I went to a furmeet for a weekend and had a sleepover with like 14 other furs too, so wow has this been a good week haha. Really hoping this good luck will continue for a bit longer! It's a great morale boost

PSA: Sickness isn't fun
Posted 7 years agoBeen sick all week and I'm currently bedbound x.x
Got a decent amount of work done this week. I've started colouring that ref sheet gift I'm doing for Zathro and finished off a badge trade, as well as starting to paint another big piece. This illness is coming in waves and therefore I keep feeling like I'm getting better and then I wake up the next day and NOPE. Definitely stunted the amount of time I put into my art this week. Oh well, I'll catch up eventually :) It's all at my own pace so it's no real loss.

for more frequent art updates, as only finished work is posted here!
I really need to get back into IG and other sites again. If only Instagram was workable from the computer, not just the phone. That'd make things a lot easier!

Storms really do make a fur productive...
Posted 7 years agoIreland got kinda battered from Wednesday to Saturday with Storm Emma. The whole country was basically closed with no shops open and no deliveries to the shops that were indeed open! College was closed too, which meant I got lots of study done... not really. Got some more words on my essay but also got a lotttt of art done up!
I practisedhow to draw both hands and cats, made fudge (which tastes gr8, it's milkybar!), practised layer modes, finished a badge, sculpted a snowdeer from all the snow that fell, finished sketching and lined and partially coloured a ref sheet, started painting a lovely jewellery piece, and more. I'm at my most productive when I'm procrastinating on actually studying for college, whoops.

See? I got loads done :D Don't expect every week to be like this hahah, I will be so much more busy for the next while.

Right, weekly updates now, finally
Posted 7 years agoGrand, I had planned to do updates on a weekly basis, on every Sunday, but I needed to wait for a Sunday to happen so I could actually start them! Consider this a placeholder, just to get myself on track :)
Small updates, still working away
Posted 8 years agoI'm going to turn this from "weekly updates" to "updates at least every fortnight but hopefully a bit more frequent than that at least" because wow do I keep forgetting to update this weekly. I swear I'm a successful adult.
Anyways, working on a profile picture for my page and other social media, which I will try to at least line tonight (you can keep up to date with my progress on trello!), but apart from that, I want to try get to the stretch goal of drawing fan-art asap. It's one of my goals for this quarter and I have so many ideas on shows I want to draw my interpretation of. Keep an eye out for my work, should start uploading stuff shortly!

Right, I'm really bad at weekly updates...
Posted 8 years agoLast journal was ten days ago haha, whoops! I really need to get in the habit of doing this weekly. The self-reflection is nice and gives me direction. Plus, it holds me accountable :P
Anyways, I've cleared my commission queue, and just as college starts back up again, which is handy! I have a personal piece or two I'd like to get done before taking on other large commissions, such as reference sheets.
My progress can be seen in my trello, and you can find more of my ramblings on twitter! Not much to report bar that I'm working on a little retro futuristic space-age piece right now to try and draw poses with a bit more perspective in them, as well as drawing clothes and guns. I'll upload it here when it's done. It'll be in greyscale this time around, as that's something I need to practice more.

Trucking along with this ref sheet commission
Posted 8 years agoGetting great fun out of this reference sheet commission so far. It's a female wolf with TRON-inspired markings, which is a movie I loved, especially for the soundtrack and visuals! Working away on my quarterly goals and trying to keep them at the forefront of my mind so I keep on track. After this commission queue is done, I want to work on more fan art, which is one of my quarterly goals for this year. Not sure what show to draw yet! Any suggestions would be welcome.
Getting close to the finish line for the first lesson on drawabox.com. I'm currently learning perspective and oh boy is it a challenge! Really enjoying what I'm creating as a result of it and how much work I have to be doing.
Also working on a personal piece, which you can see a WIP of here: https://twitter.com/MutleyArts/stat.....85978494472192 . Trying out ropework and harnesses for the first time, as well as doing a major anatomy study! First piece I've ever done linelessly and whilst it takes an absolute age, it's so fun as it's like working out a puzzle.
Commission queue:
Three-pose reference sheet: sketched, client requested edits
Toony headshot: Paid

On the subject of new year's resolutions...
Posted 8 years agoI am determined to genuinely stick to my new years resolutions. Having to say that out loud nine days in to the new year might not inspire confidence in many, but it's a declaration of my intent to actually carry out what I promise!
I made quarterly goals, splitting the year into four blocks of three months each (obviously). I won't share all my goals as some are behind the scenes work and such, but for this quarter, I plan on:
Finishing the first lesson on drawabox.com (a site dedicated to art fundamentals)
Creating a portfolio, to showcase what I can offer as an artist
Creating fan-art as a way to reach different communities and have a bit of fun imitating the styles of other artists
Creating art to submit for conbooks for two conventions (exact cons not yet decided!)
These are quite big goals and I hope to achieve them all, so I really better get started on them asap...
Commission queue: 3-pose ref sheet, roughly sketched

New year, new me, eh?
Posted 8 years agoStarting out as I mean to go on. I made some art new year's resolutions that I posted onto my twitter (link below), but here they are anyways for those who don't have twitter:
Draw some fanart
Phase out lineart
move to painterly styles
Practice master studies
Tackle backgrounds
Learn colour theory and lighting
Start drawing my aesthetic more
It's admittedly a huge list, and I know goals are supposed to be specific, but I left these purposefully vague so I can explore them more as I see fit, as I'm still working out my art direction currently. I made a "year in review" piece that I'll be submitting here in a bit, to show everyone that I can and have progressed during the year, and can only get better again! 2018 here I come :P
I need to make a profiler for this account, actually... I don't know if it should just be my signature, or an actual piece of art! (You know what I mean). I got my business PayPal all set up anyways and sent my first invoice just today, and that means I've a big three-pose reference sheet to start working on now too! Super excited to see how it turns out. It's a female wolf with a skunk-style tail, all done in Tron patterns! I've personal work to finish up also, and lots of studies I want to do. Busy, busy dolf

Starting afresh
Posted 8 years agoHi there! This is Mutley speaking from her new account. I decided I wanted to change my username a little and had to make a new account for it.
I wanted to make it a bit more professional looking and neat and tidy (I'm a sucker for order). For now, my profile is quite bare, but I will be adding to it over the Christmas period to flesh it out a bit more. I want to take my art in a bit of a different direction and focus on certain themes rather than using the shotgun approach and just drawing everything and anything with no real focus. This account will be used for finished artwork only, and will serve as a polished gallery of sorts. My instagram will include WIP shots, as will my twitter, which has regular updates of my art business in general, as well as little bits from my personal life too!
For now, I suggest you follow me on my other social media to keep up to date with progress :) Thanks for reading this anyways!
