HAY GUYZ
Posted 13 years agoHOW DO I JOURNAL
I wanted something slightly more interesting than me grumbling about cleaning the site up two years ago on front page.
But. Uh. I got nothing.
So how about a life update instead.
I got a new job, extending my commute from an hour each way on public transit to 90 minutes each way in a shitty old beater car. (Which you may remember from parkinglotgate.)
Took up casual drinking. There is no one cause for this. It was a combination of many things. On the upshot, cons are a lot more fun now.
Got out of the horrible apartment I was in and moved closer to work. (20 minute drive instead of 90.) I stayed with my cousin for a few months while I was looking for a place.
Got rid of my shitty old beater car and my shitty old beater truck and replaced them with something much nicer. (A Subaru. Sorry Mazda, you broke my heart by not having a light SUV with AWD and a manual transmission to sell me.)
Like I said. Nothing interesting to see here. Move along...

Logging on to FurAffinity from multiple locations simultaneo
Posted 18 years agoEDIT: This no longer applies. I will not be updating either, since the original need for it no longer applies, either.
Message to administrators: If you don't think this is appropriate, I appologize in advance and will be happy to delete it. This is just something I figured out and wanted to share.
Logging on to FurAffinity from multiple locations simultaneously.
The way FurAffinity's login system works client-side is to store two cookies on your system called "fa_sessionid" and "fa_userid". To log in from multiple locations, you only need to duplicate those cookies in each location. This guide will tell you how to do that.
What you'll need:
- Multiple computers and/or browsers that you want to log onto FA from.
- A way to transfer text from one computer to the other. (Thumb drive, email and IM are all acceptable. You can even write it on the back of your hand if you want.)
Part 1
The first thing you need to do is to make sure all the cookies are present on all the systems. To do this, login to FA every browser on each system. It doesn't matter that you'll get logged out. It also creates the "fa_userid" cookie on each system.
Now we get the values for the fa_sessionid cookie. Log in, then follow the browser-specific instructions:
Note that these directions are Windows-specific I'll make a Mac version when I get around to it.
Mozilla Firefox 2.0
1. From the Tools menu, select Options.
2. In the Options dialog, choose the Privacy tab.
3. In the Cookies section, select Show Cookies.
4. In the Search box, type "furaffinity" (no quotes.)
5. In the previous list that appeared, look for site "furaffinity.net" and cookie name "fa_sessionid," and click on it.
6. In the pane below, copy down the what is in the Content field. This is the value of fa_sessionid. (It will look something like this: 48b86f53dd46856f19863340b6cc653c7d73881d)
7. Cancel all open preference windows.
Note: Don't EVER give your actual fa_sessionid cookie to anyone. It's not quite as bad as given them your password, but it's close.
Opera 9.2
1. From the Tools menu, select Preferences.
2. In the Preferences dialog, choose the Advanced tab.
3. Click Cookies from the list on the left-hand side.
4. Click Manage cookies.
5. In the Search box, type "furaffinity" (no quotes.)
6. In the list that appears below, look for site "furaffinity.net" and cookie name "fa_sessionid," and click on it.
7. Click Edit
8. In the dialog box that appears, copy down the what is in the Value field. This is the value of fa_sessionid. (It will look something like this: 48b86f53dd46856f19863340b6cc653c7d73881d)
9. Cancel all open preference windows.
Note: Don't EVER give your actual fa_sessionid cookie to anyone. It's not quite as bad as given them your password, but it's close.
Internet Explorer 7 ... is a pain in the ass.
1. Close Internet Explorer.
2. From the Start Menu, click Run.
3. Enter this into the dialog, with quotes and click OK:
"%USERPROFILE%Local SettingsTemporary Internet Files"
4. Look for this file, where username depends on what user you're logged in as:
cookie:username@www.furaffinity.net/
5. Open it. If it prompts you about security, click yes.
6. Look for something in this format, where [] is either a single box or a new line.
fa_sessionid[]48b86f53dd46856f19863340b6cc653c7d73881d[]
7. The long hexidecimal number is your fa_sessionid. In this case, it would be:
48b86f53dd46856f19863340b6cc653c7d73881d
8. Close your text editor and the Temporary Internet Files folder.
Note: Don't EVER give your actual fa_sessionid cookie to anyone. It's not quite as bad as given them your password, but it's close.
Part 2
Now that we have your fa_sessionid cookie's value, we can start logging other computers in. Do not log in using the login page, or this won't work.

48b86f53dd46856f19863340b6cc653c7d73881d
8. Replace it with the value you recorded for your fa_sessionid.
9. Save the file and exit.
10. Open Internet Explorer and browse to FA. You should be logged in.
Closing thoughts
In case I didn't make it clear enough: Don't EVER give your actual fa_sessionid cookie to anyone. It's not quite as bad as given them your password, but it's close. They won't be able to do anything that requires your password, like change your email or password, but they can post comments and submit artwork as you if they have it.
Also, after you do this, don't log in using the login form. If you do, it'll generate a new fa_sessionid, and you have to repeat the whole process. (Well, at least Part 2.)
