Posted 12 years agoOkay, I’m working on remaking my Pokesona (recent events being taken into account X3) and basically, there’s one thing I’m kinda stuck on.
A) Whether to have her always have been female: Obviously a bit more in line with how I’ve felt. Also it means I can keep Nidote around, but as a rule63 counterpart instead :3
B) Whether to have be formerly Nidote: A bit more true to biological circumstance (though I’ve still got some time to wait before it becomes totally true tho) and actually, I’ve already got a semi detailed backstory for the circumstance.
Anyone wanna help me out with this? I’d really like as many answers as possible to weigh it up against. <:3
(Also I kinda would like a change of username so yeah. I'll be sure to announce and maybe give early invites to especially helpful meeple~ )

Artist advice: Tracing and Lineart
Posted 12 years agoOkay, so I've heard from everyone how tracing is bad, the lowest of the low.
For the most part: they are absolutely correct. Just drawing over someone else's picture and claiming it as your own is art theft.
HOWEVER. If not uploaded, tracing can sometimes be a valuable learning tool for inking. Basically trying to lineart sketches from artists I admire has already shown me quite a few vital things I never would have noticed if I was trying it on my own stuff.
One thing that's important I feel is to keep the ink pen/brush at a similar size to the sketch. So say, if in sai the sketch was done with a 10px brush, ink with a 10px brush. Trust me, it'll look better in the long run and best capture the feeling of a sketch. It also helps that you'll likely get less hung up on mistakes than with your own work.
So basically, get a sketch from a few artists you like and try and give them inks, just to see if you can get what makes a specific piece click. Don't upload though unless you get permission from the artist.

Posted 12 years agoSo what I planned to note was that due to some niggles with switching over isps, I'd been without internet yesterday.
But just to piss on me even more my external hard drive has made itself unusable. Basically this means that everything I had on it... which is basically every reference, every song, even bloody commission WIPs art lost forever!
I really hate my life. I really do. That was years worth of stuff and most of it I'll never get back either.

You know, empty the inboxes and stuff. I'll likely move the gallery into scraps so they're kinda out of the way but still exist (because some people actually like those pics. :P) and move my logins to a seperate google account so I have one just for art and another for everything else. merp.
Probably gonna make more of an effort to reply to things too since that might encourage commenters. Let's see if all that works.

so...
BORING.
Really, nothing ever happens on here. It's not like I can make activity happen here either since whenever I draw, even colour, I get like... 3 or less comments and <4 faves IF I'm that lucky.
I don't think anyone's interested and well, it's rubbed off on me. I'd usually just stalk the search and submission section but now the thumbnails aren't even working. In fact, hardly anything in the submissions catches my interest either so even that wasn't really interest as much as empty wishing.
Maybe it's just a phase or something but I don't really feel like bothering with this right now. It's just another tab to refresh only to get nothing. Nothing new happens. Don't get any new active watchers who don't immediately unwatch, don't see any interesting submissions... not to say they're bad but I'm just... not interested, and not really anything to look forward too.
I dunno when I'll actually give a monkey's butt again, whether it be tomorrow or next month or whatever. I probably would have done a new account to sorta refresh my zest but I think I've done that enough haven't I? (not a rhetorical question, it might be helpful to answer). Though if I do make ANOTHER account, I'll be leaving this one up so people can actually see what's there... because they seem to like it more than I do. :V

It's so relaxing, it'd be perfect for drawing...
Only thing is, it's SO relaxing I can't bring myself to do anything productive. XD

Posted 13 years agoWell a few helpful folks have sent things for me to look at but no matter what I do I JUST CAN'T DO IT.
I'm almost certain it's the unspoken, unwritten things that I'm missing I don't even know but it's tearing me apart! I've got effects down I sorta know pretty much any technique but I can't make a single fucking one work!
The hell of it is that art is usually my one single outlet against frustration but it's exactly the cause of it right now!
I wanna be even slightly good, I wanna make this work BUT I JUST CAN'T!
And it's not even "don't compare yourself to other artists" because everytime I look my WIPs on their own without anything else in mind I still think "It's shit!"
I really don't wanna give up but I'm really losing the will to keep trying when all I produce is failure. *headdesk*
There's not even any sort of art school nearby and even if there was I'm sure circumstances would make going there impossible because life just loves to get in the way.

See those little corners of a rectangle? It's not letting me set the tablet to use the area outside of that (as in, half of the bloody thing) at all!
Can SOMEONE make sense of this crap? It's stupid to have such a surface with only a fraction even being usable!

Posted 13 years agoOkay, so I got my small bamboo one which, due to being small I probably should get a bigger one if I wanna try using my whole arm for drawing...
however the next size up is about... £200-£1000... and after trust I'm a big suspicious of any other brand.
Anyone know of any tablet brands that don't suck AND don't require loads of money?
