So, I more or less missed Frogust. I've been working on a number of other things and my art kinda fell by the wayside. But I'm building up some stuff for witchtober that will hopefully be fun.
Honestly, I'm not sure if I can keep up at the pace I previously worked at. I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to, maybe because I feel pressured by the patreon bit. Gotta get something out every month because people are paying me. I appreciate it, but now that I've gotten back into some of my other hobbies, it feels like the art is just not that high a priority to me. I never much enjoyed drawing and the coloring was just a skill I developed and it all started out initially as a way to get stuff cheaper.
I need to find a new work-life balance anyway. I find all my time getting dominated by a single activity that I hyperfocus on to the exclusion of everything else. ADHD be kicking my ass. I don't think I want to stop coloring, since it's a useful skill, but I may continue scaling back on it. I want to try some more elaborate pics, but I can only ever find focus for the simple stuff that I can do quickly and I mostly use it to kill time between other things. It feels like an obligation more than a hobby now.
That and like half the people I used to commission have disappeared and the others have also scaled back a lot, so I tend to just get coms from the same two or three people now and there's a lot less fun in trying out new things.

I am still going to try and do Witchtober, though. I have a couple lined up and one more that may or may not do something. If others are interested in joining me for it, we can talk in notes. Otherwise, we'll see what happens.

August is here, which I have always celebrated as "frogust." I've got a sequence lined up for it that I should get started on soon.

When I started Patreon, I hadn't really planned on doing many exclusives beyond WIPs, but it seems that I'm just getting a lot of non-paying followers there. I assume that there's just not a lot of value for money going on there when all of my completed pics end up public anyway.
I still don't feel super comfortable with locking images that I commissioned other people for the sketches to work from behind a paywall, since I did not do 100% of the work, but I do writing stuff on occasion, which is all me. So, any writing that I do is going to be there.
Speaking of, there's already some up already. The scripts for the Chateau Enchantuer comic that, at this point, I'm pretty sure isn't being published given the long and hostile silence from the magazine on the matter, are going up there. I'm pretty fond of this story, since it's probably the best I've ever done with Jinx, the vixen chaos sorceress, with some really funny gags, fun tf stuff, and lots of skunk-girl maids (because Cameroo is really into that). Other stuff will go up there, too.

There's some exclusive stuff there only for payers, including scripts for a comic that is probably not going to be published, given how silent the publisher has been for the past year.

So, my cat has been having serious trouble with urinary blockages over the past few months and I've had to take him in for surgery to fix the problem. It's a fairly routine procedure and he's already done with it, though he's still in for monitoring him for signs of kidney damage. There's very little chance of it having lasting complications and I'll probably have him home by tomorrow if no other problems show up.

This was expensive, though. Long term, it's cheaper than regular emergency visits to have his urinary blockages removed, but in the short term, it's a lot of money. I've saved up enough over the years that this is not going to kill me. But between this, payments on my new car after the old one finally gave up the ghost, previous vet bills, and general inflation, boy am I paying a lot of out of pocket expenses lately. Some things will change starting next year that will help ease some of my expenses and I'm far from struggling by anyone's definition of the word. I'll still have enough left in my account to handle basic living expenses while I save up to recover from this, but boy does it feel uncomfortable comparatively.

I really don't want to go begging for money, considering that I'm not destitute. I'm still secure in my funds, provided I don't get cancer or something - you never know, but I'm filing that one under "unlikely."

That said, I have put a lot of time and work into entertaining my followers with my art. That is also an expense, given the whole "colorist, not sketcher" thing, and normally a thing that I would immediately cut out of my activities if I needed to go into a saving spree. But now I have a Patreon and that gives me obligations, so I'm not so quick to just stop that for a few months.

As I said, I'm not going to beg for money. But I am gonna pimp the hell out of my Patreon. If you've enjoyed my work and can afford to spare a little, I would absolutely appreciate the additional support. Friendly little tabby. Thought maybe he was abandoned by his behavior, since a lot of dumbasses abandon cats up my way, but no, he's just a well-socialized stray. He's been around the neighborhood for a few months, scrounging food off of people. He very insistently made his way into my house, so I've decided to keep him. It's the first pet I've taken in since my dog died a few years back and I've been feeling that empty space. It's good to have another furry friend to keep me company out here.
On that note, I'm probably not going to be getting any new lineart to work on for a while. The costs of taking in a cat, between food, scratching posts, some basic toys, and then the medical stuff, it's pretty expensive business taking a cat in. At least it is when you do it properly, anyway. This means my budget for anything other than important expenses is gonna be tapped out for a little while.
Fortunately, I've got a backlog of pics to work on stacked up, so hopefully my actual art output won't slow much. Though, I may catch up on the backlog before I've caught up on the costs.

So, this is a little poll here for what to do after I finish the Umakao Comic. Since The comic is three pages, I might not get that done in January (or I might, depends on how much free time I have to work on it), but this poll will be what I commission lineart of next.

Been trying to come up with some things to add value to my Patreon tiers. So, I added two new ones to the $10 tier.
The first is priority in any PWYW projects with limited slots that I might open up. Sometimes I do little projects that have open slots that I allow people to pay what they want to be a part of. If you’re one of my $10 patrons, your bid will have automatic priority over $0 bids without having to pay anything to me.
The second is a free pic where you get to be a TF victim of one of my characters, or, alternatively, can TF one of my TF magnet characters. Your choice. This won’t be an every month reward, but if you stay in the $10 tier consistently, I’ll probably offer this to you more than once.

Struggling to get new patrons. I think it might be because there just isn't enough of value to make people want to sign up. Looking to come up with some things that I can use to add value to this place.
I was thinking for the $5 tier and higher, I could make a discord group. Discord has a private streaming function, so then I could do some actual private streams without having to pay Picarto extra and still use Picarto for occasional public streams.
Beyond that, the $10 tier still seems lacking and I'm not sure what I could add to it to make it more worthwhile.
I know I can also give priority to anyone on projects I open up. Like polyp garden group pics that I occasionally do. I usually open them some slots that are pay what you want, but priority gets given to those who pay. Patrons could get priority, so they don't have to pay to get in on them.

Why Should I Support You?
Do you like my characters? Do think some of my ideas are really fun? Do you want to see more? Well, supporting me will help. You see, I'm primarily a colorist. I'm not that good at sketching, especially sketching things out of my head, but I'm good at taking sketch, inking the lines and coloring it in digital. That's also my favorite part of the process, where I get to experiment with my digital tools to find ways to do things.
But because I'm dependent on pre-existing sketches, I have to pay for those sketches up front, or occasionally get a freebie from someone - and freebies don't happen very often. This means that producing content costs me something more than time. This costs forces me to limit the scope of projects I have in mind. I want to do larger projects, like comics, but I can't afford them. With your help, that might change!

What Does Patreon Support Get Me?
My patreon currently has three tiers.
Tier 1: Buy Me A Drink
I make no promises to actually buy a drink with this money, but I appreciate the gesture. What you get at this tier is simple: early access to my pics before I post them to my art hub. It's not much, but it's something. Every little bit is appreciated.
Tier 2: Get My Attention
Now I know you're getting serious about supporting me. At this level of support, you'll get a glimpse behind the scenes. This comes in the form of access to WIP pics, pieces from abandoned projects that nobody else has seen, unfinished works (like pieces without lighting and shading added to see the difference it makes), as well as patron-only livestreams where you'll get to see me draw live.
Tier 3: Make It Worth My Time
Now we're talking. At this level, you not only get all of the above, you also get some influence over my work. This influence comes in the form of getting to vote on polls for what I will create, as well as the option to suggest ideas to me that will go into the voting poll. You'll also get your name listed in a Brought To You By section that I will include in every pic I post.

Do You Have Plans For The Future?
Absolutely, I do. I want to open up two more tiers, a $25 tier (Knock My Socks Off), and a $50 tier (Hold Me, Thrill Me). At the moment, I'm not sure what to put in them at the moment, though. The rewards need to be impressive, but I also need to be sure I'm making enough to make good on those rewards. I'm thinking the $25 tier will include an option to provide a single character sketch to be colored once per month - with an option to save up for multiple characters. The $50 tier may have the option to get me to do the work of securing a sketch of your idea to color, with the option to save up for multiple months to get more complex pieces. Both of these tiers will have limited monthly slots, as I can only do so many pics per month.
I'll need to work out the specifics of how this is handled before I open those up. I also want to include a couple more rewards in both tiers, but don't know what would be worth it, but once I've got it worked out, those will go live, too.

Do You Have Permission To Do This?
That's a fair question. Using my work as reward tiers counts as commercial use and may run into copyright issues with the artists who provide me with the sketches. Something I found out the hard way early on was that commissioning a piece of art doesn't give you any rights to do anything with it. You aren't even allowed to display the artwork publicly (IE repost it) without permission. Fortunately, the person I found this out with was reasonable and let the issue go after I removed the pic. If you're reading this, you know who you are, I appreciate how you handled that. You've saved me a lot of trouble I might have otherwise gotten into.
This is why I'm currently checking up with the artists I regularly commission to acquire permission. As long as they give me the right, it's fine. Permissions are not carte blanche - I can only use pieces I'm given specific permission to do so and permission can be revoked at any time. Additionally, I will only be posting images that I have done some work on - no untouched sketches. This also comes with credit to the original artist and a link to their art pages and Patreon pages (if they also have them). I will abide by their decisions, no just because that's what the law says, but because I don't want to be a jerk.
Does this mean I won't be commissioning people who don't give me permission? No, it doesn't, it just means that I can't use any pics based on their work as rewards. Colored works will be submitted to my art page without going up on Patreon.

Will I Get To See Patreon Pics If I Don't Support?
Yes. Both DA and FA are key tools to getting word of my Patreon out there, so I can't just stop posting here. Every completed pic that goes live on Patreon will come to my regular art pages, but patreon supporters will get to see those pics a week (or more) early and get access to a few exclusive behind-the-scenes stuff if they are on the $5 tier or higher.

Yes, if you want to jump in early, there's one WIP, one pre-finished pic, and a few of early access pics up for your viewing pleasure.

Will You Still Do Commissions?
I'll be honest, I kinda hate doing commissions. Everybody always asks me to draw from scratch and I hate doing this. Unless I'm copying some other art style - which requires a number of good references - I tend to hate my sketches. That's why the $10 reward tier has the option to suggest ideas. You can still get some influence over my work and get something you'd like to see - though at that tier, it's up to the vote to decide. Higher tiers, once I get them worked out, are intended to replace commissions.
Before the last two tiers go live, however, I may still accept some commissions, depending on the time I have. I do have a day job, and while it's a freelance job, it does still eat a chunk of my time every day. Because of my medical situation - I'm ADHD - I have a limited number of hours I can work per day, so I have work commissions around that. Coloring is easy, on or off my meds, but drawing from scratch takes more focus.
Of course, commissions to color work are still open any time. The going rate is $30 per figure, plus extra for backgrounds (depending on complexity), so you can see that the planned fourth tier will get you a small discount there.

Just don't go overboard with it. Sharing a journal link is fine, and mentioning it to a friend who you think is interested is appreciated, but don't spam links. That annoys people and that's not a good way to find support.

I ran some tests on streaming just now. I managed to get it working. I had to first find an older version of OBS because the latest version isn't compatible with the OS version I'm using and I don't want to upgrade to the newest OS because it will make half my steam library (and who knows what other programs I use) stop working. But I got video. It's doing a weird doubling of audio that I don't know how to fix yet, other than muting it (which I'll probably do anyway).
And it doesn't stream the whole window, which I'm still trying to figure out.
But it does work.

As I feared, it does stress my compy, so I'm going to have to run my laptop cooling pad with it. One of these days, I'll just buy a desktop computer so that's no longer an issue. But I think if I close out everything but the OBS and the program I'm using, I can make it work sustainably.

So, I can offer exclusive streams as a Patreon reward - just gotta figure out how that works. And I can stream generally if I want to, but I'm probably going to make most streams exclusive so that the "behind the scenes" reward tier has more value to it.

I'm probbably going to run a full and open test stream on Tuesday, though I haven't settled on a time yet. I'll keep everybody posted as I get this worked out.

So, I've fiddled around with creating a patreon page, just to see how it works. I haven't published it yet, or got it approved, but I have the basics set up. I first need to make sure my compy can handle doing live streams before I set that as a possible tier reward. I plan on doing a basic test soon, hopefully next week. Maybe Tuesday. I'll update as I get that ready and pick out a day.

If I go forward with patreon, that does mean I will have to clear permissions to use the sketches I commission for this purpose with the artists. As long as I have this permission, it's legal and should be okay under Patreon's terms and conditions, but that's something else I have to confirm before I open up.

Rewards will range from getting to see pics before I post them on DA and FA, to access to behind-the-scenes stuff (WIPS and Livestreams), to getting to vote on ideas or characters to appear in a monthly pic. This doesn't mean I'll only do one pic per month, just that if people sign up for the tier that gets voting privilages, at least one pic per month will feature the character or idea voted on.

Would people be interested in seeing me color something live? I've been considering it. I've got a picarto channel, so I know I at least have the platform. I'm not sure if my laptop has the capacity to handle streaming, so I'd have to test first, but if it can, it's an option. Would people join me, though?

First of October is this Saturday and so Witchtober will begin!

I'm going to be posting at least one pic per week, with possibly one extra pic to go on Halloween Day itself (if the lineart gets finished in time). The pics will focus on expanding the character of Tiffany Angel, who I created during last year's witchtober event.
At this point, I've taken Tiffany from concept to full character in just one month and I'm pretty pleased with the set-up and supporting cast she's got now. Looking forward to introducing them to you all.
So, psyche yourselves up, people. My little Angel is about to show herself.

Fairies, and Werewolves, and Dragons, Oh My!
My friend  Dearshul77 has been working on a website to host her comics for a while and has finally revealed it to us all. Feel free to check out Studio Nascosto (https://studionascosto.com/) and see what’s on offer.

That Which Is Unseen
For those who’ve followed Dearshul as long as I have, you probably know about her flagship comic, That Which Is Unseen. It appears to be a twist on Pinocchio. Not to say that it’s copying Pinocchio, but instead is playing with its themes and characters to create something new. Many of Pinocchio’s characters appear in it, including the Blue Fairy (her name is Moth) as the main antagonist, and Candlewick as a poor fool struggling with his curse. It centers around a dumb jackass named Henry who has a one-night stand with the Blue Fairy, then spurns her because he doesn’t want to break things off with his fiancé, so she curses him to turn into a donkey when he lies in hopes of breaking the two up out of spite. How will he get out of it? Read and find out!

Bloodhounds
Bloodhounds is a new comic project that you can buy from her shop. It centers around a bunch of werewolves who work as detectives for supernatural problems in the city of Elmwood. I don’t know too much about this one, as Dearshul’s been rather tight-lipped about the specifics. You’ll have to check it out for yourself.

Other Stuff
These are the two big ones, but there are others. Tea Dragon is a short and simple comic about a dragon trying to get some tea - the title says it all. Coming soon is a comic called Round Table Origins. It hasn’t been released yet, but appears to be a take on Arthurian lore. Could Be Interesting.
