Smash - I know I'm so gonna regret this...
Posted 4 years agoI'm going to be playing Smash semi consistently now, mostly for practice but also because I like playing it to a degree, message me if you wanna set up some games or something via Discord or PM me here
I am going to be clear with some stuff though, and this is important,
I am by no means someone who plays even semi competitively, if you're looking for that, I'm not the guy for you.
If I do play against you and realize at some point sooner or later you play in a more competitive manner, aka, combos out the ass and unnecessary spikes even though I'm clearly gonna die, I will mostly avoid playing against you. I'm not your CPU Combo practice food, if you need that go to the Training mode or Smash game mode.
If I see you have several hundred hours in the game, or know you have a history with competitive Smash, I will still play with you, but I will be VERY warty.
If you complain about the fact that I'm saying this, then that's your problem, not mine, I want to have fun, getting hit stunned by an aggro Sonic or slingshot into oblivion by a Villager isn't fun. I want guys at my level, being thrown into the deep end to learn to swim isn't how I get better.
I do prefer no items on Battlefield/Omega because I can actually focus on my opponent BTW

My History with Smash - A really dumb vent
Posted 5 years agoI have a massive love hate relationship with Smash
I started playing on the Wii, Brawl was the game I really loved playing, even though I was playing it with just myself thanks to the internet never being reliable back then. Subspace was fun, unlocking Wolf Toon Link and Jigglypuff was fun but frustrating because my Wifi kept crashing when trying their levels.
Then Smash 4 on the 3ds came out, and I really enjoyed it, I played it a ton for who knows how long, and then I realized some of my friends played it too, and so I played online... And then I realized I was outclassed by basically everyone I played against, especially this one Villager. Constant losing streaks and other factors came in and caused me to go on a 5 year haitus, I did buy Smash Ultimate in 2019 but never touched it until only like a month ago, and while I'm fairly better at the game now, the same is happening, and thus I recently started making mental notes of people I'll avoid playing against, which is still growing.
You can call me salty for thinking that, and I sure as hell am salty.
See, you wanna know what's fun? Being able to play a game with your friend, have a few wins and losses, be on an even playing field, have a bit of random thrown in there, the good stuff.
You know what isn't fun? A 1v1 against a player that has over 200-1000 hours in Smash Ultimate, if not more so across all of Smash, getting conboed to oblivion without being able to play, your opponent SDing when you make a pretty dumb mistake out of pity, deciding to rub salt in the wound by spiking or combo-ing you off the stage while you have no hope of recovery, getting on a massive losing streak, stating that they're not that good despite their playstyle saying otherwise, saying "Oh, getting beaten is the best way to learn" or some variation of that crap, saying they'll teach me after me saying I'm not having any fun, and some other stuff I can't think off the top of my head.
See, a game is fun when I actually have the chance to play it, I don't have fun against someone far above my own level, hence why I'm going to actively avoid a lot of the players and fighting against them unless I say otherwise. I'm not dealing with this anymore.
You can see this as me being a sore loser, but try and see how fun it is being in a listings streak, obviously being used for combo practice, or something like that.
So as of right now, Fuck Smash

A different Subject/Discussion
Posted 5 years agoI'm just gonna distract myself and like, talk about stuff or open a discussion about astronomical hyper because I wanna see how you guys feel about it.
See, I'm on the fence about it, on one hand, yea, being big is pretty hot, not gonna lie, but on the other, it's kind of... Very meh conseptually, and it tends to only become reasonable by a background being X or Y, or if you're 9Puzzle, you have a made up scale for sizes with Giga numbers.
Its not good or bad, it can be good, but rarely for me, since a lot of it ends up being very... Sameish you know? Like a growth comic of someone becoming the size of a planet? That's always welcome, but a single image of some dummy thick character floating in the middle of space in front of the milky way? Not really unique, could just have them floating in a void and achieve the same effect.
What do you guys think? Don't get toxic here

Update on my brother
Posted 5 years agoHe's dead, confirmed it just today
I couldn't catch everything since I woke up in the middle of it, but I did hear the word suicide or accidental overdose, but by what means, I didn't hear specifically.
I already accepted I wouldn't see my brother after he decided to dip on us.
But hearing my parents crying and wailing like that hit me in a way I didn't expect.
Not fully sure how to feel right now, but I'll manage, dont worry.

A bit of news, just so everyone knows my situation
Posted 5 years agoToday, police came to my home and gave my family some news.
They found my brother's car, and recently, they found a body, never said it was his, but there is a possibility since they mentioned tattoos.
I'll still be on and active, I'll be coping in my own way, I need to keep fighting.
I feel conflicted due to my awful relationship with him, but seeing how its affecting my family is whats getting to me.
For now though, I'll try and soldier on, like I always try to, that's all.
Pretty sure nothing here makes sense, I just needed to say whatever to express my feelings.

My Writing Philosophy - Part 4 - Themes
Posted 5 years agoShesh I haven't done one of these in a while now have I?
Themes are very important to a story if you wish to implement one, it allows for proper engagement with the reader or someone experiencing a story.
Now one might ask these questions, how does one implement a theme into a story, how do we establish a theme without being straight up with it, how do I know if my theme is bad or good. I'll try and explain how I see these things as best as I can.
See, a theme is used to either convey a message and make a story feel consistent, and it can be something as simple as "Good will overcome evil," which is evident in stories like Star Wars with the Jedi and Sith, or something as complex as "What makes us Human" like in the stories of Nier and Nier Automata. Both of these stories have their themes clear with how the characters act, how the story progresses, etc.
Lets pick a simple theme for the start, such as "Work hard and you will succeed."
Now, you can probably think of a story just from hearing that, where an underdog poor lad works his ass off to try and reach the top, while someone who cheated his whole life to be on top gets his life ruined and is humbled. Both of these characters have something to do with the theme, where the poor lad makes it at the top, while the one who took the easy route fell hard. You can try and add complexity to this where some people don't end up in a good position by working hard, or those who cheated still remain at the top, changing the theme of hard work paying off to how unfair a system or life is and can be.
Theme can be direct or metaphorical, where certain characters can be stand ins for what you want to convey, such as "God's son beating the Devil" where a character, Jesus, is sent by a king, God, to go kill the Demon Lord, the Devil, with some symbolism put in there if you want.
But your theme shouldn't take precedence over your story. A theme like "Forgive and Give Chances" is a good surface level theme in theory, but a show like Steven Universe can have horrible reprehensible people who passed the moral boundary, being extremely abusive, shattering thousands of gems, all other life forms being inferior and casually talking about colonizing earth, be treated as just sad people who need another chance despite being horrible people, a theme like that wouldn't work in Batman if it was used to someone like The Joker, a chaotic murderous psychopath.
Think of a theme like this. You have a pretty standard cake ingredient list, and you want to add flavor to it, and you have several choices. You pick Strawberry, now you have a Strawberry cake, but you think you could add a bit more to make it special, adding some red food coloring to make the batter red, add bits of strawberries into the batter, add some frosting, and voila, you have a special strawberry cake, and if you wanted, you could add another fruit or more to make a fruit cake, but dont add too much fruit, or the cake might be lost and you cant tell what the cake was supposed to be, or go so into making a Strawberry cake that you may as well just have a ton of strawberries, and the whole cake is overpowered.
All I can really say is, Themes are important, but don't treat them more importantly than your story.

Current emotions
Posted 5 years agoI'll be honest with you all, I've grown to dislike and/or hate a great majority of my friends right now, as well as life in general.
Y'all know what a victim complex is right?
Let me tell you, it has 2 meanings, 1 is basically someone playing the victim even though they're the ones who were doing the bad, see a lot of political arguments or something like that.
2 is what's currently going on with me right now, due to the abuse life has given me because of shitty parents, school and bullying, and that one time my brother decided it would be funny to put his junk in my face, that now I see every little thing as some kind of attack towards me by people I trust, such as doing things with each other more often than me, feeling like they're talking behind my back, etc etc. Its causing me to distance myself from people as a result of all of that.
They're the people I can safely say I'm thankful for helping me through this, many of the others are either in that category or are in the neutral. But there are a lot of those who are in the category of people I do not like at all, some are my closest.
I just can't deal with this anymore, I don't want to have to think of my friends badly
But when everything so far has been telling me that my friends aren't really my friends, repeatedly showing me that even when they tell me they'll do better, they do the same thing as before that has been hurting me
What can I say then...
Fuck you

Multiplayer Games
Posted 5 years agoI'm going to make an announcement to anyone who would be interested in playing games with me in general.
I enjoy playing Smash and it's genuinely fun, but you know what's not fun? Playing with someone who plays competitively and says they're having fun while you're there not getting more than 1 kill on them. Get your thirsty win ass out of here, I'm here to play for fun, not to stroke your ego, don't go try hard for no reason on a person who clearly isn't as good as you, it makes them not want to play with you at all.
Teamwork games like Monster Hunter World or Generations Ultimate are much better because we have fun KILLING BIG MONSTERS TOGETHER, keyword is TOGETHER
fuck competitive players, y'all can eat my entire stock of ass.
I'm heated but I'm also here to say that I'm open for those who wanna plan a game ahead for MH on Switch or PC, I wanna have fun and help those who wanna rank up

Hello everyone, its been a while since I posted any of my pieces and... well, I have a ton backed up, so prepare for a flood of submissions from myself and a certain colorist I consider fantastic, you'll see who, in the coming night, for now, I need to compile everything that they've done for me and list the things I wish to post here on my profile, which will include things I bet you all wouldn't expect me to post.
Life is going good by the by, no need to ask, and ciao for now!

Nintendo Direct
Posted 6 years agoMan, I'm happy with that direct, aren't you all? I am kinda mad that people didn't seem to recognize Dragon Quest or are mad that the forefather of RPGs is getting represented in Smash. Like come on, I know you want your Banjo Kazooie, and they are in the game, but it's just a tad dissapointing that DQ is being seen as "Oh, more anime swordsman" yet y'all want Sora.
Still, regardless, fantastic direct Nintendo, straight to the point with your plans for games and such, never fail to surprise and not dissapoint your fans!
Animal Crossing, More Astral Chain, BoTW sequel, all of this, fantastic, he'll yea!

Oddly specific types of fanfics I remember
Posted 6 years agoI dunno why, but sometimes I end up thinking back to the fanfics I used to read when I was still in my teens, which was like 2-4 years ago. At the time, there were specific kinds of fanfics I keep remembering about, ones I read a lot and tried to find more of. I'll list them off
1. Legendary Champion
Okay so, the basis for this genre of fanfic is that this human dude, who either lives a boring or shit life, saves a legendary disguised as a female human (for whatever reason) from some thugs or some crap, then later on, the human either gets killed or commits suicide, mainly the latter, but the legendary girl saved him and because he saved her life, he becomes worthy of becoming her guardian. But the thing is that every legendary and champion is female and most of them are malephobic and now the human has to deal with them... and by deal with them, I mean make a harem and kick the asses of the evil team doing while showing the champions and legendaries what a great skilled guy he is.
I dunno why but this is probably one of the more odd ones because I was heavy into harem fics at the time, yes, I admit that, but I dont know what attracted me to them, maybe the consept, maybe the harem stuff, maybe pokemon, maybe something else, I dunno. Most of them felt so similar except for this one specific one where the main dude was a hydregion and not all legendaries were female with some interesting stuff here and there... but most of them ended up being either main guy gets harem while being the Arceus champion or the evil/dark brooding feel sad for me champion.
2. House of Eeveelutions
This one is kinda simple. Pokemon Anthros exist and all that, the whole world is that. The protagonist, either a Lucario or Zoroark, has to go to college/high school far from his home town and has to be the butler of a house full of eeveelution girls because his dad and their dad were friends and their dad has to go for a business trip. So now theres the smart butler guy who needs to take care of these eeveelution girls's antics, and they all have generic as fuck names as you can expect.
Now I dont know why this one appealed to me a lot, mainly because I was a horny boy who thought living in a house full of girls would be nice and all. It's odd really, all of them felt so similar with how they went about, dad sends his boy to a house full of girls to be their butler while going to school with them, alongside the wacky idiot best friend who is also rich and has some kind of connection with MC.
3. Human In Equestria Adventures
This is one of the things I remember the most clearly. A human who lives a shitty life gets into some scuffle with random thugs or bullies, almost dies but gets transported to Equestria and into the evergreen forest, is found by the Main six (take a guess) and taken to the hospital, becomes friends, MC lives in Twilight's or Applejack's home, is given cloths for free, works for AJ, meets with the princesses, be super nice to Luna, MC is revealed to be (insert special thing here) gain a harem, go on some kind of adventure to defeat the evil.
This is the kind of stuff I end up admittedly liking, the whole Transported To Another World story can be fun to play around with and can lead to interesting plots and stuff, but almost all of them feel and do the same thing, which is why they all kinda blend together since they all bring in some anime power or some random convoluted stuff that's never explained, getting with Twilight first, etc.
4. Pokemon Harem Adventures
Again, self explanatory, guy goes on adventures with his entourage of anthro pokegirls and they do... whatever it is since it's in relation to what region they are in and all
This one, I dont know, it's so simple but always interesting because you get to read these stories with different people and... wait, the MCs boil down to "help the poke girls" and all that, wow I was easily pleased with reading some of this stuff.
5. Pokemon Highschool
This one is the one I remember the fondest since it's the most diverse mini category with only few similarities, especially since they end up tackling different kinds of things like bullies, day to day lives, relationships, family bonds, etc. Its odd honestly, I read this one the most out of all of them when I was younger for some reason, maybe it was because it was an escape of some kind, loved pokemon, wished I had a better time in school, etc, so I guess that's why.
Really, fanfictions then are definitely different from fanfics from now since we no longer have the "edgy" man characters and all that, all a product of the time I guess.
I think that's it really, just something I had in mind to type out, I am unable to sleep and i wanna, please brain.
Goodnight to whoever is reading this... merry 1 month late christmas and new years or something. Bye

My Writing Philosophy - Part 3 - World, Lore and all that
Posted 7 years agoLore and Worldbuilding are very fun, wouldn't you say? Making history of this one village or telling a story about a sword that slayed hundreds of monsters and villains. It really makes your world feel alive and lived in.
Well let me tell you, that despite it being fun, and on the contrary to what every person believes, Lore and World building are not the most important factors of a story, let me explain in a very simple manner.
Story/Narrative = Characters > Setting > Worldbuilding > Lore
The fact is this, your story/narrative and characters are the most important parts, as they are the foundation of your story/fanfiction. Everything else is a compliment to your story and characters. Let me give an example to what I mean in more detail (which I should have done already.)
This is Mike, Mike lives in a village that used to be the home of the legendary Warrior Erdwin. Erdwin had himself a family and one of his children will be the next legendary Warrior to go and defeat the dark lord terrorizing the kingdom for several years now. The Warrior was accompanied by his best friend and his eventual wife, going on a grand adventure around the world to gain the weapons needed to defeat the dark lord. It is said that the Warrior's body was buried in his home village, along with his equipment his friend and lover had, deep within a temple the villagers built long ago in gratitude for what the Warrior did for them and the world. Mike isn't that new Warrior, he's the protagonist, but not the hero, he is some person being told this by some guy in a bar, and Mike leaves the village a few days later, as he needed to deliver a message to someone in the neighboring village.
See what I did there? I wasted your time telling you pointless information about this Warrior and about the past of the village, yet none of that affects Mike, who just goes off to tell something to someone else in some other place.
The Lore needs to affect the world, and the world needs to affect the story and characters. Lore compliments the story, characters and the world, the world affects how the characters are and the characters drive the story to progress, while the story in turn, drives the characters to grow, change and head to a goal.
This is Mike, he is a young, 20 year old boy who lived a relatively normal life in his village with his family for quite the long time, and he always wanted to see the outside world. Mike lives in a village that used to be the home of the legendary Warrior Erdwin. Mike, upon hearing this, heads towards the temple, but gathers his friend and crush with him, as he thinks it would be a fun adventure. As soon as they arrive to the temple and where the warrior is said to be burried, the three friends discover that they are the reincarnations/children of the 3 Heroes of the past, thus needing to defeat the dark lord. Mike and his crush rise to the occasion, but his friend is afraid and hesitant to go out into the world. What will happen next, can Mike convince his friend to come along, or will the friend stay behind?
Now tell me, can you tell me the difference between the last one and this one? I know it's rushed but the point is, the lore and history of the village served as a goal and initial push for Mike and his friends to go on an adventure, discover that they are heroes, and gives the friend a chance to grow from his fear, allowing for some kind of potential development. The village is the hometown of the main character, and if something happens to it, it could lead to the main character gaining some development or growth.
When you introduce something like a legendary sword spoken to in a legend, coming from a town that made that sword, if you don't do anything with either of those things, they shouldn't have been mentioned. You won't care about a village all that much going boom if one of your characters isnt linked to it or has some kind of importance. It's the principal of chekhov's gun, if it's shown or told, it should be used even in an insignificant way.
Part 4 will be about something else, I'm not sure, maybe making a magic system or something like that
Sorry if this seems rushed, but hey, hopefully I got my point across

My Writing Philosophy - Part 2 - Establishing Characters
Posted 7 years agoAn important factor when it comes to characters is to always introduce your characters well, because if you don't, you run the risk of ruining your chapter, especially if you mess up the introduction of your main character.
One thing you should never do is make several paragraphs explaining how your character looks, how they act, their backstory, etc, or else you run the risk of typing up 1k words of needless info or too much information.
One thing novice writers tend to do, and something I used to do, is explain away everything in a single sitting, and that's a poor choice to make since the reader doesn't have the patience of a rock wanting the wind to turn it into sand.
This is apparent in fanfics, the more recent example of this is a fanfic called Equestrians Human Spirit, which was a prologue chapter explaining how the character looks, what his life was like, his past including dead parents, etc, leaving no impact for emotional scenes of him revealing his past to his new friends, and his past doesn't affect how he acts in the story either. For example, he is said to have had no friends, which makes him likely antisocial or something, and being bullied, yet somehow, he is able to make quick friends with the characters later on.
An example I can give is this brief introduction here
______
It was a bright day, with only a few clouds in the sky, beaming down on a small village of around 900 people or more. Many were at their homes, children playing around, adults going to work, and some wagons going in and out of the village, be it for food or transport.
A mother was watching her son load his things up into a carriage, looking quite sad. "Mike, please remember to stay safe over in the kingdom, and make sure to write home often." She said, trying to hold back some tears.
The boy, Mike, looks back at her, smiling gently before turning to her. "Mom, I'm gonna be fine, I've been training swordplay for years now, nothing is gonna take me down." Mike confidently said, grinning widely. "And don't worry, I'll make sure to write every... Week or so."
"I'm sure you will." She laughs in response, smiling a bit. "...Look at you, old enough to join the guard, passionate to be part of the kingdom's knights... Your father would be so proud, you following in his steps."
"Yep, I'm sure he would... I'm gonna miss you mom." Mike responded, walking towards her and putting his arms around her, and in turn, she hugs him, crying a bit. "...Aw mom, come on, don't cry, I'll try and visit you as much as I can." He reassured her.
"I know, but I... I'll just miss you." His mother gently rubs his raven colored hair. "My baby boy is leaving me, how hard do you think this is for me?"
"I know mom, I know..." He kept the hug going before the two heard a bell from the wagon's driver. "Well... I best be going now." He said, breaking the hug and running to the wagon.
She wiped her tears with a tissue, waving her hand at him. "See you Mike, and make us proud!"
"I will!" Mike shouted back, hopping into the wagon, looking back at her from the back, waving as well before it began moving.
______
I know this was maybe not that good to read, but hopefully this gets my point across. Establishing a character through dialogue and setting, from thiss,I assume you caught some details about him, his name being Mike, having black hair, having trained with a sword for years, loves his mom, father either gone or dead, going to som kingdom to become some kind of knight, etc.
Though, I kept the details vague enough for it to make you wonder several things, Knights of what kingdom, what happened to his dad, who was he, etc. Because these questions get answered through the story, and through Mike going to a kingdom, this gives the next paragraphs/chapter a chance to make a new setting, making the world grander, etc.
This is likely confusing but I do hope I get the point across.
Part 3 will be about world building and how to implement that into the story
Thank you for reading this

My Writing Philosophy - Part 1 - Making a Character
Posted 7 years agoAn important factor that we all know with a character is "Growth", because that's an inevitability we all end up with, either good or bad, from a nobleman from a rich family becoming a rogue with a golden heart to a simple farm boy becoming an antihero.
A main character needs to experience some kind of growth through the story, being either character development, something that fundamentally changed the character, which generally happens through the story, or character growth, something which adds to the character, something that the character has worked hard to attain in a way or another.
Goku from Dragon Ball, mainly in Z, is a good example of a character that experiences growth quite a bit, that being when he learns new skills throughout his story, such as attaining Super Saiyan, which was masked as character development, at least to me. Gohan in DBZA had massive development throughout the series, mainly the Cell Saga, where he learns that noone will always be there to save him if he is in trouble, thus unlocking his Super Saiyan form, and inthe final episodes, Gohan eventually learns how to release that pent up anger and ditch his pacifism/cowardice, and thus, attains SS2, development and growth linked to each other.
Now that we have an example... Or at least an example I can think of for both, now I can get along with my writing philosophy for a character
Strength and flaws are important when it comes to making a character, because you need to make it so a character can change or improve on their own strengths and/or flaws, and noone is perfect, or else you'll end up with being what everyone calls a Mary Sue/Gary Stue.
This is integral to the whole character, so this is important to do first when making a character.
A character CAN have "strengths" such as generosity be considered a "weakness" by saying they are "too generous" if it's implemented into your story well, be it with giving so much that they have nothing left to give, thus ruining their own life, or someone taking advantage of said generosity.
An example of a character with strengths and flaws that I can show you here is this.
Mike is a someone who is strong willed and good hearted, he is also someone who is naive and a bit lacking in knowledge.
This is a very simple character you can place in many situations, this is generally the starting template for a main hero, and it works to a degree. For Mike to develop, he needs to change in a way that changes how he is, such as his flaw of lacking in knowledge, where he try and learn more about the world he is in, and thus, retroactively changing how he is, but this will add another flaw, overconfidence, where he thinks he knows everything due to his naivety. In addition to that, this add growth to his character, where he now knows more about the world he lives in.
You can make a simple character like this, and you can play around with how they change, such as a selfish nobleman who learns how to become generous while still retaining some form of selfishness, because noone can truely change, as who they were before can still affect how they are todaya d potentially in the future.
Engagement in the main character is important, either from entertainment or engagement from how the character is or will grow. Noone wants a character who doesn't change or changes so much that they aren't even the same character they were before. Would you like to have Naruto be the same the entire series though?
Progression in the main character is also important, as there needs to be time between every change/development they go through so the readers can know how the character changed, what changed, how that affects the narrative, how that affects the other characters, etc.
Static Characters remain the same through the story, generally being one note villains or side characters not important to the plot, which is something you need to avoid making your main Character, or else you end up with Ruby from RWBY
Proactive and Reactive, Proactive characters are actively trying to move the plot forward while Reactive characters only do anything when the plot demands it, you need to try and have your character be mainly Proactive, or else you'll end up with one of those crappy Harem protagonists.
A character needs to be motivated to move the plot forward, if your character doesn't have a goal, then attempt to make them gain one as the story progresses, and it may change later on.
An important thing to note is that it doesn't need to be the goal at the end of the story, like getting the girl or killing the Dark Lord, it can be simple things such as learning this new spell, learning how to cook, freeing a village, etc, as Goals can lead to character growth and development.
Continued in Part 2, unsure what to talk about next, but if anyone wants to hear more from me, feel free to ask me or something
I know this is a bit of a random journal to post, but I just wanna lay out my thoughts. This is just how I write and you don't need to follow what I say here.
