the goal is 1000, because i've managed to scope out two scooters nearby in that range. one's an 07 honda metropolitan and one's a 2016 yamaha vino, both models i've been interested in for several years with a reliable engine build. 50cc engines like these don't even require a special license!

i have a lot of complicated feelings about neer's passing. i watched his blusky for a few months while he posted how his extremely life threatening symptoms were being kicked down the road over and over by doctors. how doctors charged him anyway. how we never heard about family taking him to the doctor, only fellow furries.

it's much too close to my own experience.

there's a mentality in healthcare within america that if you're "young" (read: under 55) then nothing that's wrong with you can be that serious and you can wait indefinately. that it's probably in your head or you're being dramatic or you're drinking too much coffee. they still want you to pay them to tell you this, of course, which is how neer wound up dying with a 30k hospital debt, and no treatment.

by next monday, they told him they'd have the biopsy results. he died yesterday. two days out of treatment for the biopsy. one day after i was asking him how his fevers were doing.

it's fucked up.

i've watched so many people die these last eight years, and i've almost been one of them.
the outpouring when people pass... was it there when they were alive?

because i personally know i was largely abandoned by supporters when i broke the news about cancer, and then the 'new' supporters i got also abandoned me when i 'beat' it and need to take meds for 5 more years and see doctors constantly and have a myriad of health effects.

support people while they're alive
it's easy to mourn when they're gone, but where were you when they were alive.

the system doesn't care for us
our families don't care for us

if it's not us supporting eachother, there's no support at all.

no one deserves to die in pain, in debt, being told to wait, being told they're too serious to handle at THIS hospital but just HANG TIGHT anyway even as your lungs are filling with blood to drown you.

i'm so sick of a country that doesn't see you unless you're rich, cis, het, white and old.
i'm sick of watching it kill people around me.

a pair who have been in this fandom for a long, long time and have always worked really hard to create all-ages fun things online for years. cecil's comics were formative for young queer furries in the aughts! ryan's websites included things like "random kitten of the day" and the earliest furry webcomic link exchanges! they're both now parents of i think it's... four?! kids!! and honestly, truthfully, they are wonderful caring parents who work very hard to protect their childrens' privacy so that the children dont grow up in their own digital footprints.

cecil was, obviously, a major point of emotional support that i thought back to constantly (even if we didn't chat constantly!) during my treatment. like, to know you are not alone in a weird scary thing (even if not the same scary thing) is very helpful to surviving a weird scary thing. so cecil's open honesty about health struggles is also something i think has been just important to internet culture in general.

i am back from maine and visiting with  theotherrickfox who was helping me print the queer birds books for backerkit. the campaign is done now except for me sorting/distributing rewards which is gonna be my b i g job for the next few weeks

i stayed with  theotherrickfox at their apartment cuz they live so near the convention, but i really feel like i was blessed meeting so many cool people and making so many new friends. aldin bushytail's moxie soda panel was fascinating and weird and i loved it! i came in dead last at the pinball tourney, but to even play in a pinball tourney in 2024...!! got to meet hulex even if my old man body cant stay up til his sets play, got my very first fursuit parade identification tag, and in general just had a great time up in maine.

good news everyone!!! no, really lmao. we were driving fairy out to get their last paycheck, and during that time there's enough in donations to secure 2 weeks at an air b&b which ihs hopefully!!! enough time to scope out even more long term housing. i'm gonna try to help since i have some vague concept of what is and isnt connected by public transit in the region.

fairy obviously could still use any extra, as their EBT hasn't been filled yet (you need a housing address to finish the paperwork to get money on the card) so once they're outta here a buffer of food money would be great. but thank you everyone who helped already!!!
