super status go
Posted 14 years agojust a brief status update.
- we fixed the oven. with a little advice from bunners, we just swapped out the 4 prong plug for a 3 prong plug. works fine, and now we can y'know. actually cook meals.
- we finished clearing out boxes in the living room. fully half of what was brought is being thrown away, but that does just leave the boxes in the dining room to sort through.
- i didn't mention it here, but my stepfather sent his huge fishtank up. i've always said how i wanted it some day when he was done with it, but the problem was that he was sick of the two fish inside. one is a like, foot long catfish of some sort and the other is a fat, fat tetra about three inches long. and he sent them in buckets, in the back of a moving van. miraculously they survived, but now they're our probem. i can deal with a huge fat tetra, but a foot long catfish? i originally mistook the catfish for a pleco until i saw its mouth. thing is, it could KEEP GROWING even if i got it a larger tank (it's too big for the tank he sent) and i'd just rather re-home it.
currently both fish are still living in buckets. in the kitchen. with bubble stones in there to help them. but still. buckets of fish.
- in sorting through the hundreds of boxes we found a couple gems. like my old deer skinning knife my dad gave me when i was maybe eight years old, and alf's copies of
rgibson's comics. also about six thousand blank sketchbooks, some takeshi murakami stickers and the address of my host family when i lived in japan. swanky.
- we also got a tree yesterday. yes i know i'm a jewy jewy jew, but i've always liked the ritual of a tree. my family never made it religious in any way (my dad was raised catholic and didn't see any point in forcing it on his offspring) and the tree-topper was always a wooden bird (cardinal, for you north americans). so that's up but not fully decorated, we'll do that tonight.
- i plan on doing a "Propaganukka" thing for seven days/eight nights where i'll post screencaps/commentary on my LJ about 90s/80s anti drug propaganda. if you didn't know this already, i collect the stuff because i find it inheritly hilarious with few exceptions. i'll probably do the Star Trek animated series episode (fictional drugs from Mudd of course), the GI joe episode (TEAM UP WITH COBRA TO STOP THE DRUG MENACE), the Raccoons episode (SMOKING WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE), Straight Up (live action with horrible songs oh god it's great) and a few others.

family has gone
Posted 14 years agoso our house, which was once all nice and clean and moved into with the exception of a few rooms needing paint, is now a warzone again.
there are boxes of shit here we didn't even know we had. there's boxes here now of shit that ISNT OURS. apparently they just threw like, half the contents of the basement into a truck and drove up with it. we just spent about an hour sifting through a chunk of it...and have like four boxes and four bags of nothing but trash, plus a bag of clothing to be donated and pokemon toys to sell on livejournal.
bad news? the plug for the oven doesn't match the wall outlet. </3
but the good news is all of my books and comics are here now. yessss

Posted 14 years agoso my old bro noah has an old cat named punkin.
punkin's having some serious ear issues. like, blood clot ear issues. it's causing him a lot of pain and discomfort. the vet can fix it, but it's going to cost 400$.
noah doesn't really have that, working as a gamestop peon. so they're accepting commissions (hats and scarves and blankets and plushes) and also donations to help pay for punkin's surgery.
400$ may seem like a lot, but if everyone chips in a buck or two here or there, i'm sure the goal can be reached. i gave what i have to spare, and now i'm signal boosting.
noah's paypal is tycho@live.ru
you can also see the original post which has pictures of punkin.
please consider helping a fuzzler (and my buddy) out.

xmas themed ATCs for sale! 10$
Posted 14 years agowould you like a winter themed traditional media colour card of your character or a friend's character or your buddy's character? of course you would, cause they make really good tiny gifts for things like you know :o stockings.
ATCs or Artist Trading Cards are uh. trading cards, only drawn. like say, this.
i'd like to do a few winter themed ones, so i'm opening up a couple slots. they're 10$ each, and i'll ship them to you for free if you're in the US. if you're outside the US i'll hafta ask you pay some of the shipping. all the cards will also be shipped with little protective hard plastic sleeves (think baseball card sleeves) so they won't get bent or wrecked. and, here's the kicker, all cards will be done and mailed by the 20th of december.
if you're interested, here are the rules.
1- no porn, pleases.
2- the cards are small, so please don't get TOO overly detailed. ie, piercings are fine. but hyperdetailed ultrafancy corsettes might be out.
3- if you don't want the physical card, please let me know ahead of time!

i need to figure out math first though. and you're looking at someone who straight up fails math classes and can't remember their own phone number, let alone social security number or zipcode.
okay, that's a lie...those two i have memorized after writing them so many times that i remember the actual visual look of them but EITHER WAY
how does one find out what 20% less of something is? like, i want to run a 20% off sale and i don't know how to do the math to reduce the prices.
HELP ME, MORE NUMERICALLY INCLINED FELLOWS!

Posted 14 years agoso we're getting the rest of our smallish-stuff to the house today. that includes the other fishtank, camera stuff, the last remaining bookshelf, etc.
we're still trying to figure out if internet can be set up there. the verizon website let us swap our service to the new address, but the human we spoke to on the phone when we tried to do it by phone seemed confused and said there was no internet out there.
taking a leaf out of a bro's book, i tweeted about it with #verizon. INSTANT RESPONSE! verizon apparently is more on top of their support team working with twitter than they are anywhere else. i guess because a tweet can get them a bad name real fast? either way they're still looking into it.
the first 5 gallon fishtank is already at the house and set up. there's no heat in the house, but the tank itself has a heater. there's only two fish in there as well (a glofish and a cory cat) and i'm pretty sure they'll tough it out.
the house also has water to the plumbing now. we left it switched off last night, since we didn't want to risk the new pipes freezing without any heat.
in regard to my keyboard dying, i just took the troublesome I key off. that means i just need to tap the tiny little nub underneith to get an i, which is surprisingly a lot less frustrating than reattaching a key every ten seconds.
today we make a trip to walmart to pick up some stuff we need to clean the bathroom now that it has water. also we're going to grab a space heater and some other stuff in order to survive for a while.
and with that i gotta go, since alf is slowly tugging ren around the floor while she sits in a box lid...

real life update of the turkeyday
Posted 14 years agoso we're working on the house still. we've just made our first mortgage payment, which is really only 25$ more a month than what we pay in rent for a shitty two-room apartment.
the electrician and plumber were there yesterday. we officially have city water running into the house...though that water isn't hooked up to any fixtures yet. the kitchen had its electric checked out and good to go. the fridge arrived, too. now we just need my family not to flake out on the stove they promised us.
upstairs, two rooms got their first coat of paint. downstairs, the dining room needs 1 1/2 walls still stripped of wallpaper. we also set up the new mailbox and changed our address and all that.
the contractor's son brought his little mutt max over during the work day and so we had this small batty boston bull mix running around. i tried to get max to play with the giant fuzzy green posable spider i have, but he seemed afraid of it once it was in the middle of the floor instead of poking out of a box. so max and i just did a bunch of play-bowing and hopping and floor-tapping instead.
so the next two major things we need are heat and probably interwebs set up. verizon may charge up to 100$ to get out there and hook it up.
in less house related news, the i key on my keyboard now no longer stays attached for more than five minutes. i'm not sure what it will cost to replace a laptop keyboard, but i'm fairly certain i can't afford it at the moment :|
work on the commissions continues, but during the weekends generally halts in the stead of the comic and house work. i'm hoping to have some sort of xmas special offer up soon. we'll see.
also i've been playing a lot of zelda: skyward sword. i'm up to the third temple and man sometimes the puzzles are just MEAN. but it being a zelda, it's still super fun. exchanging the mana meter for a stamina meter straight out of the gate was a good change, i think.
anyway. more work on the house to be done, more small pieces of furniture to go.

did you get your inhuman book? sound off!
Posted 14 years agoit's come to my attention that most of the books made it to their destinations inside the US today!
if you got one, sound off here! i'm also hoping to collect photos of folks with their books, so if you have a camera, post one of those too! photos can also be of a pet or a stuffed animal with the book, if you're uncomfortable showing your face on the interwebs.
wooo!
if you didn't buy a book and you'd like one, they're still on sale at my site for $5.50 plus shipping :o

Posted 14 years agoalso a stunky plush and some futurama DVDs
i was also selling an OLPC with custom art on it, but somebody snapped that up super fast.
anyway, if you're interested in any of the stuff you can check out the auctions here.
i'm also gonna be putting a lot of yaoi (read: gay mansex) comics up on ebay in the coming week for pretty cheap. they've been lying around gathering dust for quite a few years. mostly they're gundam wing, neon genesis evangelion, trigun and ff7.

Posted 14 years agookay i need to work out exactly where commission money is going.
basicly if you were thinking about a commission? i really could use one right now.
if you were also thinking about, like, donating to my site or adding in a tip? yeah those are important too. :< i'm really hoping i can make ends meet with art for a while, but it's a considerable chunk of change. so yeah, anything anyone can do to help...

i still need $ for this, but the plus side is it's unlimited everything for two years. this includes a domain name renewal i have coming up. NOTE: i screwed up, i thought 122 was the 2 year plan. that's the one year plan :| erg.
currently at: 190/190 HORRAY
student loans
:| i hate these, i really do. but they're worse if i don't repay them sooo.
currently at: 130/130 HORRAY
rent
oh hey that THING. that i pay to LIVE SOMEWHERE :O at least soon it'll be mortgage instead.
currently at: 160/350
other
"other" is like money i try to squirrel away each month for emergencies (like vet bills) and credit card crap. not a lot but yeah.
currently at: 100/100 HORRAY
so yeah again, IF YOU WERE THINKING OF A COMMISSION NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME
A VERY GOOD TIME INDEED
especially if you had say a like 5 page comic you wanted drawn or something

back on the east coast
Posted 14 years agopayin bills, doin laundry, cleaning the inches of dust that have accumulated in our absence.
we're also trying to get rid of some extra stuff we have. if anyone wants futurama DVD sets (season 1 & 2) i'll sell them to ya at 30$ for the pair. the outermost box for season one is a little scratched up, but the dvds are fine.

it's our last day in LA
Posted 14 years agoaaa what to do! we're a bit at the end of our trip budget, so movies or theme parks are kind of out. i admit, i don't know the area well enough to entertain folks for a week on minor funds. :B oh wells.
in our time here we've had a blast, though. we've-
-visited desconso gardens
-gone to the california science center
-got lost a few times
-photographed a seal down at the pier
-gone to the galleria (it's just a thing to do okay!)
-gone to knott's scary farm
-seen the musical box (genesis' offically licensed successor)
-watched zar play & beat fatal frame
-watched poltergeist for the first time
-drank a gallon of starbucks coffee
-eaten sushi several times god yes raw fish my lifeblood
-failed to find a record store
-jumped some lady's van for her
tomorrow we have to return our reasonably priced car (rental) and all fly back to the east coast. i think we're getting in shortly after midnight, which will give us sunday to recover from jetlag a little and get shopping done and stuff.
in theory, we close on the house monday. but they've been pushing the closing date back for two months now, so i can honestly say my hopes aren't high. the bad news is if we don't close this coming week, we won't be able to get the house. the kind of sale it is means there's basicly a huge discount of about 2000$ on the closing if we close before a certain date. and that date is the 30th.
i'm not looking forward to returning to the apartment or town, just because it's such a hole. we've already decided if the house falls through, we're going to move anyway...though to a different apartment in another, less horrible area.

now is a good time for an interview meme
Posted 14 years ago
wingcommanderrudoji tagged me with this one. so the deal is that i'm going to answer the interview questions he asked. then i'm gonna tag a bunch of you guys, and then i'm going to post some questions for you to answer. or something, in some order, similar to that. i think there's something in the rules about having to tag 11 people and no tagbacks and going to tell them they're tagged on their page? i dunno I WASNT PAYING ATTENTION
1) When life gives you lemons...
hope that the military doesn't put a hold on your lemon grove because otherwise you're just screwed
2) You wanna get high?
NO WAY DUDE, DRUGS ARE UNCOOL. that's what a ninja turtle told me once.
3) What number-letter combination am I thinking of?
a-4.
4) Are you my mommy?
no, but i know there's a saggy looking hound down the block who gets asked that a lot. maybe he can help you out.
5) Flargen and what...?
blargen.
6) Do I make you randy~, baby?
i watched that movie way, way too much as a teenager. i think it may possibly have contributed to my mild facination with the 1960s and 1970s.
7) What color am I hearing right now?
yellow, and it sounds pissed.
8) Do you want to talk more?
i guess sure
9) Did you hear that?
just some birds outside
10) Are we in space?
all things are in space, cause space is the place where everything is.
11) Do you think I was just BS-ing half these questions? If yes, why? OwO
yeah cause half of them are overt references to turns of phrase or movies, and the other half are generally direct questions towards the answerer and not really questions that anyone else would enjoy reading the answers to. that's not a very effective interview bro :O
okay so i'm done with this, so here are my 11 questions folks can answer.
1- have you ever travelled outside of your home country? when? why?
2- what evolutionary trait do you find most interesting? can be for animals or plants or anything, really.
3- given some animals have distinct calls for specific purposes, do you believe inter-species communication will be solidly possible in the future?
4- were aliens to land, do you think they would be hostile or or beneficial?
5- do you think we'd even recognize aliens as alien were they to land?
6- what was the best pet you ever had :o
7- do you like comics? WHAT do you like about comics?
8- are insects awesome or disgusting to you?
9- what made you start drawing? i mean REALLY start, not 'get serious' or 'start drawing furry' or anything.
10- sharks are in every port, and there are always sharks if you swim at the beach. did you know this? did you ever worry about shark attacks before? do you worry NOW?
11- if you could vacation anywhere within our known universe, where would you go?
i guess i'm gonna tag uhhhh
