Together both Larry Dixon and Mercedes Lackey have spent the last 3 decades popularizing Griffon and Avian stories through their books, art, and personnel projects. From acting as the Great Eagles advisor for Peter Jackson in the Lord of the Rings films to rehabilitating countless hawks, owls, falcons and corbies back into the wild, these two luminaries of aviary have united and propelled the Gryphons of fantasy into a whole new level.

We're working quite busily on the pre empire portion of the book. We had a sudden thought, this seems like a really great place to slip in a pony variant that isn't so common/died out by the time we're in the post empire timeline that the original book describes. We went ahead and set up a poll where you can vote on what sort of pony we'll be describing.

Since I posted up my last journal, the response has been amazing and touching, so I thought I'd toss out a general thanks to y'all. Flexible is now at 1000 for the month, meaning 10 bonus hours come the next month!

First, I apologize for this post. You're probably not here for sob stories, but here we go.

My mother's been ill for the last six months, but is recovering(yay). She goes out to buy a few things, and finds her card being denied. Lo and behold, California snatched about 1,000$ out of her accounts, leaving her critically low on funds.

All of Cynnamin's work is entirely removed from FS, even in name.

It's not worth seeking litigation(5,000$ legal fees) against a random internet person that likely has no funds to take, and that's the only defense available. Hurray American System.

So, instead, we placate them, like many irrational people before them, in the hopes it quiets them down.

There is some big todo and debate about :cynnamin:'s dissatisfaction with the use of the Ashens on Flexible Survival. I figure I should post the story where everyone can get at it.

They installed 'Cuddlemanders' on my game. I hated it. I told them it wouldn't work, and told them to change it, one reason for that, and I said it at the time, is that copyrighted creatures are NOT allowed.

Then they became Ashens, and I let it go, since I presumed that Ashen were original creatures made for the game, awesome, new pieces of flexible specific lore.

It helps that a thorough web search turned up not a thing about ashen.

Fast forward to several months later, and cynnamin decides they want me to promise I will never make money off the ashen. This is not a promise I could make. The entire purpose of flexible survival is to make a living. I said I couldn't promise that.

This was not acceptable to them. They stomp their feet and say they want me to admit it's theirs and to not make money off of it. Still not being a promise I could make, I refused to make it.

Then they left the game.

At this point, Damaged, a staffer on the game, and myself, erased all the descriptions of the ashen, and redid all their writing in our own prose and style, even changing their anatomy a bit along the way. Cynnamin's work, with the ashen, was thusly erased from the game, gone.

Fast forward to now. I messaged Cynnamin asking if they wanted to be involved in some stuff going on with the Ashen, that I thought they may have fun roleplaying with.

I get back a DMCA notice. You can read that exchange on her journal.

She is wrong. She is dead wrong. She owns the cuddlemanders, she does not known the Ashen. I have already informed FurAffinity, and they have already removed her false document. It is clear as day. She created the 'Ashens' while working for flexible survival, and was paid(in form of mako, the premium currency of the game with an explicit real world value and normally purchased) to contribute to an existing project. It is work for hire, and the copyright is mine.

There is absolutely no evidence that the ashen, and their various types, existed BEFORE she came to Flexible Survival. The one document she did have was dated after she left.

Once I got my teeth into a project, sometimes letting go can be hard.

The basic pony race has grown out quite a bit since I started, with pony gods, pony feats, pony magic items, and even rules for ponies as familiars and mounts.

So, I saw a long time ago that someone else had done this, but, at the time, I did not play Pathfinder.

I thought it was amusing, then moved on. Now that I play Pathfinder, I took a fresh look, and decided, huh, this is way unbalanced and I would never allow it in any game I ran. Then the part of my mind that drives my insane creativity started harassing me. It said, Hey, man, you can do it better!

So I gave it a shot. Here is the pony race, suitable for Pathfinder.

My focus was on making a BALANCED race, that could stand alongside an elf, dwarf, human, or other standard race and not overpower them, or be a drag on any party they're included in.

Also a focus, try not to add more 'new rules' than absolutely required. New rules make DMs/GMs sad and/or angry. Pathfinder has enough rules, let's try to use them where possible.

RP stands for Racial Points, a construct introduced in the Advanced Race Guide, put out by Paizo, which has rules for making up new races. It helped a lot to make the base, and I went on from there.
