I may as well mention I'm typically not that great at striking it up with people in a reasonable time-frame, and if I see something I may not remember to actually respond for days.
Otherwise, past year, ya. I helped a friend out of homelessness and complete poverty, so there is that! Feeling good about that. But work has been such a drag-along this past year, so many co-workers just evaporated from workforce pruning and yet we somehow keep getting busier with no sign of any raises, or overtime, or bonuses. It's just eeeck.
On top of that, started herbal supplements and a diet turn-over, which is so far helping me feel better and have better health. Given this success, I've also added in some more which supposedly help with feminizing--we shall see, eventually.
As for cons this year, I'm not sure about AC. I'm likely going to go and poke people at F^2, since it's relatively local (very relative), and most likely to MFF; it all depends on how upcoming year goes, though. With job contract running out and I actually craving /out/ from this career's spiral, but torn between staying here in central IL, going to Mad-town, or possibly trying a venture out on the West coast again, there is quite to bit to weigh around.
Looking around for another ref maker, as I'm looking to get a more simplified approached (not too simplified tho), hoping something will materialize while peering about.

Got a room for AC at the Westin connected via Skybridge! An oldold friend of mine who seems to have recently gone and dipped their feet in furry is likely going to have one spot, and I may have to fill in 2 more spots with other interested furs. Open to people who are relatively local to Central IL (so I can know your face before versus the awkward 'during'), possibly others if a situation warrants such.
Let me know what your thoughts are, for such a room or for how you're looking forward to AC!

Posted 11 years agoIt's been over a year since the last journal, so this one is to catch up.
I'm still fine, though I have just one more semester left in college, and this one is really reading intensive. Once that's over, I have barely an inkling of where to go with a degree in Engineering Physics where I won't just be useful because I'm a 90's kid and good with mundane computer-work. Just wondering how anyone else reading is doing, and if they seem to come across this kinda problem after getting their educations all squared off.

That AC was amAAAZing
finally met Bryan (husky I've known for a loooong time) and SareenXie face to face as well as that other fennec 
PhoxSillanpaa. Hung with them a lot; they even got me to get over the 'I don't really need this' phase of pre-shopping regrets I always get at cons @u@; I bought a shirt! And a badge from ![[koh]](//a.furaffinity.net/20251106/[koh].gif "[koh]")

Toay_K after the initial bunch. Saw him later going at it at the Floor Wars which I refused to miss--place always makes my blood run hot.
Mostly went with Phox and
UrsoKronsage throughout the convention center, camera-manning half of the time. Met some weirdass Canadians

Also! I tried Sushi for the first time in the form of Volcano rolls .. And it wasn't death to my appetite! So that's a thing for me now |o/
Saturday night/Sunday morning had to be nuttiest/manliest time I've ever had:
So after knocking back tons of the alcamahol, I was pretty loose and pumped to go with the group to wherever I could bounce around, room being cramped and all. So us people-guys--the Canadians, Urso, Phox, Toay and a sober Bryan--get to the Great Hall, and Toay start feeling out of sorts with himself; too much of the happy juice. I'm apparently dancing in front of the Great Hall around my hat as Bryan recalls before he turns for a second to help Toay to the loo. He turns back around and I've apparently disappeared.
I'm pretty sure that I forgot that I accidentally took one of my meds out of habit that morn. From what can be recollected: Bryan's the last one who saw me. I have 0 actual clues as to where I went or what I did exactly after I left his field of vision, but I ended up in the medical campus of the University of Pittsburgh a few miles away from downtown with IV's in my arm and an EKG hooked to suckers on my chest. Apparently, I fell on my frontside somewhere mysterious to me in the convention center and the professionals took a CT of my head at about 1..
I woke up at about 2AM, hazey-eyed, and saw the IV's in my arms. This isn't the first, but the second time I've been to the hospital; nay, it was the second time I was at the hospital straight from a convention after drinking and losing my group. Remembering the first time, I gathered up all my 'nopes' and my knowledge of IV's (mom's an animal vet), and pulled the IV's, unplugged the suckers, removed the finger-pulse monitor, got up, and asked politely to leave.
I swear the service in that place is slow. After requesting to leave and having them go over that I should wait for the alcohol to completely wear off, I agreed and waited... For 3 hours. Throughout the first hour I met a nice nurse who swung around my door when I woke up and brightly asked me if I was "one of the furries." After promptly apologizing for ending up in the hospital and answering her in an emergency room, I admitted to it--hopefully she'll be able to contact another on of us who doesn't have EKG suckers and that oily tape all over their chest and get a better lo-down.
After that sweet, unexpected conversational respite, I mostly fiddled around with my stuff looking for the possessions of mine which weren't in my pockets anymore. Most of them I found in my backpack -- or at least I found them in what was my backpack. Apparently, the hospital had to cut the strap off at the thickest part that laid on my shoulder in order to search my pack for dangerous articles. Well I found the majority of items in my backpack... except for my wallet, I couldn't find that.
So, the 2nd hour of my wait consisted of me frantically searching the pockets again and calling for a nurse to merely ask for something to drink. When one finally came by, they said they'd be back with something, but didn't show up again after a passer-by nurse noticed me standing at the doorway for 20+ minutes and gave me one of those mini-can sodas from the fridge barely 5 feet outside of the room. =~=..
Last hour: I spent the previous 2 hours not only shuffling through my backpack, but also spendin the last 9% of my phone's battery calling anyone at the con in hopes that they'd be awake as well as finding out where I was in the city. No one was awake. I even threw a twee Kage to see if it'd get some kinda response from anyone before my phone conked, but alas it did not. The last hour, though, I was released from my room.
At 5 AM, with no wallet to be found and my phone dead, I reaching into what was once a backpack, pulled out a compass, slung the now-a-really-heavy-sack-with-an-awkard-strap over my shoulder, and trailed along the north side of the medical campus, setting out for Downtown. That campus is gated practically everywhere on the north, even in small cauldesacs, so I had to backtrack a few times before finding a road that seemed to lead out of campus.
Next to this road was a beyond-all-reason sketch staircase with concrete steps and metal bar railings barely 3 feet apart. It must have been more than 200 steps down, and the bushes behind me kept rustling -- I felt like I was in the middle of some SCP going down those stairs. At the bottom, though, I found Uptown Pittsburgh, and could clearly see the hotels next to the con center. The first human being I saw that morn was some older lookin bag-lady on a motorized scooter for the elderly, and the first line I heard out of that forest: "You smoke?"
Now, if I was shirtless, with the EKG suckers and oil-tape sticking on my torso and a fresh red spot on the inside of my elbow exposed, I wonder how crazy I could have made that lady's morning seem. Unfortunately, I was clothed and very socially acceptable looking, so the best I could muster was a small smirk and a nod while saying "Nope, sorry"
And so, with my legs really really weak, but my resolve to lie in the bed I intented to every night of that con undaunted ( as well as the want to tell this story to the guys in the room off the charts ), I marched through uptown and downtown, arrived at my room, knocked my way in, mustered up the rest of my strength to fake being huffy, failed, and flopped in bed for a good 4+ hours.
Thus the 5-2-1 rule was UNBROKEN!
Later that afternoon, I found out my wallet WAS in my backpack, but it was stuffed in the very corner of the middle pocket, underneath everything which was BOTH in the middle pocket before AND organized in the same way. With my wallet, I was able to snag a something from
FireFeathers (I'm going to need to recheck, my head's a bit fuzzy on that morning's details) as well as drive away from the con safely!
So ya, I'm curious as to two things:
1. What happened to me after being in front of the Great Hall? Where did I end up?
2. The hospital got my actual name from someone who found me, but my wallet was in the same condition as it was in my pocket last -- who found me and how did they know my name?
And ya, after Sunday, I went to New York state proper and visited with relatives there while I toured U of Rochester, Rensselaer Polytechnic, and Cornell for possible Master's programs in Optics. Who could see that coming?

Posted 13 years agoAnd I really liked it. Between the way people socialize and the way the buildings suit my tastes, I have practically been European these past years--or, at the very least, I'd fit right in. Renewable energy companies were interesting to visit, and cities were fantastic and flowing.
Visiting the EuroPa and Council of Europe was interesting too, seeing all the seats for different countries and all the translating booths.
The food was also very good over there, and the difference between sodas there and in America was very evident, even in the way the bottles were.
I may go there to study abroad for a semester before I get my degree, and I'd definitely move there when I get the chance.
So much more to say, but I need to write a 10 page paper on it now. @@;
OH ALSO
AC is the next coming weekend, and I'm planning on driving there from my place in northern Chicagoland area. This is extremely short notice, ya, and people are probably already settled on rides, but there would be 2-3 open seats who can split for gas money with me.
My own hotel room is already settled, just want people to help split the petrol bill.

Okay, so it was only about 25 submissions and it took 2 hours. The pictures weren't showing as being rotated in the preview window and I went OCD over it. D:
