So, maybe I'm being a bit too much of an asshole, but I see some artists in this community as being very consumer unfriendly. Here's some of my opinions on how any purchasing process should go:


1) Know your own rates. If you want to ask someone what they're willing to pay for something, and then come back with a minimum after the fact, that's poor service.

2) Accept all forms of communication (within reason). I see some people refusing to do business with someone if they use FA's built-in communication. Fuck you, I'm paying you, you want my money- talk to me where I want to talk. This doesn't extend as far as talking on the phone or something, but if FA's PM system is best for me- don't make me go to another site, or require I use e-mail. You're wanting MY business, not the other way around.

3) Provide updates. This is a BIG one. Some artists are quick at what they do, you'll have a completed piece within hours in some cases. This is a blessing and a curse. If the first communication I have from you after commissioning a piece, is a completed piece- and something needs drastically changed, I feel like an asshole even though you may be the one at fault. Especially for someone like me who deals with social anxiety- I have a hard time saying "No, go fix this." Consumers should not have to request updates on pieces. Even if your update is "you're still 2 behind previous customers, I'm working hard to get to your piece"- let us know! Maybe have your own customer update cycle and let them know- "you'll receive an update once a week."

4) This whole "you're blacklisted if you hide your bid or are unable to pay" thing needs to end. Does it suck when that happens? Sure. But you know what? Life sucks. You don't see places like Lowe's banning you for bringing items to the counter and realizing you can't afford them. A majority of artists I follow on here pretty consistently post journals about some emergency or another, requesting emergency funds and stuff- but you can't be bothered to be compassionate when your customer, who obviously likes your work, has the same? Fuck you. If I see this going on from now on, I'm going to unfollow. It's unreasonable.

5) Know what jobs you're currently working on and ones you're taking on. Again, mistakes happen, but why should I have to remind you if something isn't completed? This kinda goes with providing updates, because if you were- you wouldn't have forgotten my piece. Since joining FA, I've had 5 artists fail to deliver pieces. Currently, there are 2 artists that I'm dealing with due to lack of delivery and lack of response. These are not new artists- these are people who have a following on here for being GREAT artists, but lack of planning and organization means I lose my piece. I mean, why remember my piece after you have my money, right? Who cares if it cost me $120? Further, PayPal protects the SHIT out of you. In ALL instances where I've been forced to try and fight this, I've ALWAYS lost.

6) Know how to invoice. Do some tests for a dollar or something with a friend. Know that if you are in Russia, that you need to set the payment type to USD as that's the standard on FA. Know how to disable required shipping.

7) Just because you created the art, doesn't mean that you necessarily own the piece. The exception, in my mind, is when it's something like a YCH with multiple customer's characters. But if I commission you for a piece, it's mine. You should ask me if it's OK to upload. If you work as a programmer for a company (many who are freelance, just like you artists) you don't walk away owning the program you wrote - the same needs to apply here.


FA needs to add a artist rating/review system. Some artists may have great art, but horrible customer service- and it'd be nice to have that documented somewhere.

Some of you may not agree- I mean, this post is very consumer-oriented and goes against the grain in a lot of practices here on FA, but it's all stuff that is the norm in the real world, online and at physical locations. It's gotten ridiculous here. Artists are here to conduct BUSINESS, in the end- you're here to serve your customers. I understand the need to restrict constant modifications to pieces, or people making completely unrealistic requests- but nothing like that is here in my list.

Ok, people. I do NOT appreciate notes asking me to commission you. That's like... Well it's bullshit. Low.

If you truly "love my character", then note me asking if you can draw them, not asking me to commission you so you can draw them. The fuck?

I'd love to do an x-ray with an artist or two. Still more or less learning, but a basic x-ray monocle is easy enough. Send me a note or something.

Hey - so I don't really put out journals a lot - but I have something to say...

You artists out there - no matter how gifted - need to pull your collective heads out of your asses. I've talked to many artists are are friendly and pretty cool to talk to - but then there are those (a lot of "those") that believe their talent gives them the right to be jerks and otherwise just horrid people.

I don't buy it - and I urge anyone who sees an artist's profile with "if you message me about <this> then you will be ignored and added to my blacklist blargh blargh blargh" or anything like that - boycott their ass. For each asshole artist, there's an aspiring artist willing to work with you - and in general provide good customer service. You have choices - show the artists how you feel with your wallet and make a change.

That's all - and I apologize, I don't normally complain but it's happening more and more and I simply hate it.

Pretty much what the subject says... I have a Skyrim Steam Code (obviously unused) for trade for a Ref Sheet (via description).

My fursona has been up in the air for too long, and for too long it's been dictated on the little modding I could accomplish in (don't hate me) Second Life. Okay, so FA removed 3 of my *my* pictures. They were of me, but modified in photoshop. So thus, they removed my creativity. That's fucked up. Screw you guys, everytime I see others now, they will be reported, and if you do nothing, I'll just spam the report button. ^-^ Do unto others, because others are asshats.

I got a new puppy. Her name is Aurora, and she's a American Bulldog, Beagle, Basset Hound. She's small, loud, and extremely cute. I'd upload her photo here, but the FA Admins would just delete her photo, so I won't bother. I will however, be bringing my DeviantArt up to date, because atleast they know the difference between art and something to delete. Fucking morons.

So, there are two people in need, and with my current situation, I am in no situation to help. Please avoid reading this post if you dislike real-life issues.

Starting with those I follow. There are two who are in trouble.
1]  teekay - His mother was laid off, and he is trying to run emergency auctions to pay rent. This is a great artist, and he is really tired. I mean, he has been drawing commissions for so long, and fervently that he is exhausted. If any of you can assist him by participating in the auction, please do so. I feel really bad for this man.

2]  shines - She has had something happen to her that would cause the rest of us to explode as well. Her computer has taken a turn for the worst, and the doctors tell us that it will not recover. She has been trying to order parts to put together a new one, but she is still short alot. She is doing 2 things. [A] She is selling alot of fabric work. (Tails, leg warmers, and wash-cloths and stuff) It's her form of art, and they look great. You can view the items here. The items are generously priced, and donations (tips) are appreciated. ALSO, her pet [IRL, it's cool, right?],  alaskafox /  alaskakaru , is doing emergency commissions. His art is really good (as you can see from the commission in my gallery), and sketches start at 2$, but obviously, the more you pay, the more you get. For something like mine, it's 20$, but please be generous.

Onto myself...
As all of you know, I recently bought my tablet. It cost ~$621. It was sitting in authorizations for almost 3 days (although I got it on the 3rd day). I checked on my bank account today, and noticed the money had been returned from authorizations, and there is no record of payment. I am a little worried as what happen. I still have about 5$ more then what is required for payment in my account, so I have no idea what has happened. I'm a little worried. My credit is in bad enough condition without having to worry about this. I really hope they don't overcharge, because if they do, I'm going to be in pain.
