Shadowgate KickStarter
General | Posted 13 years agoThe last thing that you remember is standing before the wizard Lakmir as he gestured wildly and chanted in an archaic tongue. Now you find yourself staring at an entryway which lies at the edge of a forest. The Druid's words still ring in your ears: “Within the walls of the Castle Shadowgate lies your quest. If the prophecies hold true, the dreaded Warlock Lord will use his dark magic to raise the Behemoth, the deadliest of the Titans, from the depths of the earth. You are the seed of prophecy, the last of the line of kings, and only you can stop the Warlock Lord from darkening our world FOREVER. Fare thee well.”These were the words that appeared on a black and white Apple Macintosh 128K 25 years ago. They belonged to the 3rd in the MacVenture series of adventure games, the first adventure games that used a point and click interface. All other adventure games before them used text parsing and keyboard commands. 2 years later, these words (slightly modified a bit), also appeared on the NES; leading the way in bringing adventure games of the PC and Mac to home consoles across the USA.
These are the words of Shadowgate. Now, 25 years later, the doors to Castle Shadowgate have opened once more, and I can finally share with you the secret I've been keeping for the past few months. This is the reason why I've been absent for so long. I've been involved in preparing for this:
https://youtu.be/69t6_jp_CXYWorking with Shadowgate creators Dave Marsh and Karl Roelofs, I've been helping them in preparing for this KickStarter since early to mid-July. I've done extensive research into ICOM Simulations and the history of the MacVenture games. Today, October 26th, 2012, at 9 AM EST, the KickStarter campaign went live. You can find it here:
Shadowgate KickStarter PageWhile it'd be great if you can pledge and get in on the action of bringing the MacVenture games back to life, it's also okay if you can't. :) If you can spread the word about this on your own FA journals, or check out:

and Subscribe/Like/Share/Follow, then that would be a big help.
Hopefully you'll like what you see! Thanks for reading!

https://youtu.be/lb76XWttOnIWE INTERRUPT THIS MENTAL BREAKDOWN TO BRING YOU AN ANNOUNCEMENT!As you may or may not have been aware, the being that goes by "OtakuMan24" here on FA has been absent for quite some time. This has been due to a large variety of reasons, many of them related to KickStarter, money, and life in general.
However, the reason for the return this late evening, and subsequent meltdown, is because of one man and his sick and twisted desire to stick his friggin irons in friggin EVERYTHING!
That man is Andrew Hussie.
Andrew Hussie is a rather nefarious, diabolical, and seemingly mild-mannered on the surface webcomic author and illustrator. He is best known for his work "HomeStuck" and his previous work "Problem Sleuth" which were part of the MSPaintAdventures series.
However, recently, in his most latest update to HomeStuck, he made a connection that made every synaptic fiber in my nervous system scream out loud.
Now if you haven't been following HomeStuck...

OH FUCK! NO! DON'T CLICK THAT LI~https://youtu.be/crPl0ITIkS0Now if you HAVE been reading HomeStuck, then you are probably well aware that many of its characters are quite infatuated with "Anthropomorphic Fauna". Ranging from Jade Harley to Horuss Zahhak, numerous characters have shown an interest in the regular subject matter of FA.
This is actually rather interesting, and is mixed in as a particular plot point that keeps circling around to different things and... well you need a kind of 3D Venn Diagram to really figure it out.
But today... in his latest update... so help me God...
HomeStuck had an ad up... on its own website...

I shit you not!
http://www.projectwonderful.com/img.....1350884912.jpg - (Seriously, WTF?!)
Now, if anything, this is proof that either the Furry Fandom is moving into HomeStuck, or HomeStuck is moving more and more into the Furry Fandom.
You may not have noticed it, and I wouldn't blame you. The infiltration of HomeStuck into Music, Anime, Furry Fandom, Fiction, 3D Sculpting, Cosplay, Voice Acting, and I'm sure somewhere probably FOOD has been subtle. It's like glaucoma, it slowly infects you bit by bit, without you ever feeling or noticing its growing presence.
Already, HomeStuck fandom has invaded the furry fandom, even here on FA! You can find exmaples of its effects:

Frankly, I have no problem with the coming HomeStuck invasion that is already here, but people don't know it yet. It's good stuff, highly intellectual, and is almost like a secret society that is slowly gaining strength and numbers within the existing FA community.
I'm fine with that!
But... having an AD for Bad Draagon?!!? On the HomeStuck main page?!?!?!?! Just... Just...

General | Posted 13 years agoSome of you may remember a little community I tried starting about 4 years ago to help people in need here on FA. It received its fair share of criticism, did some good, but ultimately came to a halt when I realized that before I can really help others, I have to help myself first. And being unemployed, penniless, and struggling to get by as I was, I had to think of myself first before I could really start thinking of others. Otherwise, I wouldn't be any good to anybody.
Today, I heard about
sahtori_kamaya here on FA. Her real name is Karine Coenen, and she's a native of Belgium.
Today, I heard about her cancer.
I was directed to a journal of her's from another person on my watch list. I read through her update, accounting her experiences at the hospital as well as her treatments, and was very moved by it all. I felt tears well up, and legitimately felt sad. If you're wondering, the journal can be found here:
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3365994/
Before, I would have contacted all my friends and asked them to spread the word in their own journals to see if people could help her pay for her medication and medical bills. However, before I did anything that I was criticized off back when I was in charge of the ADLM, I decided to contact her directly and see if she had anything that would ensure that no on could claim she was a fibber or liar trying to panhandle.
In her response, she sent me this:
http://www.goddess-ofthe-night.com/truestory.html
Seeing the pictures, the news clipping, the massive amounts of medication, and documents hosted on that link has shown me that she is not trying to fool or defraud anyone. She is sick and needs help.
I myself am still very poor and can not make any major donations at this time. But the least I can do is spread the word about how she needs help, and also spread the information that shows she is not making things up.
I encourage anyone who can to please help her in one way or another, even if it's just spreading the word further. I know there's a lot of other people who need help on FA, some who are in equally serious situations, if not more so. However, if I just turned my back and did nothing, I don't know if I'd be able to look at myself in the mirror.
Let's hope for the best and wish her good luck.

The KickStarter Spring continues, and now it's Leisure Suit Larry's turn to return to the glowing mirror ball spotlight! So pledge today and help bring Larry Laffer back! PROPERLY this time!
And if you want more hilarity from Al, check out his website at:

PeterandCompany is doing a KickStarter to have their webcomic made into an animated series! Click here to learn more and show your support!I don't know exactly how it happened, but through a strange turn of events, the "TakeDown" KickStarter campaign headed by Christian Allen and his company, Serellan, has achieved SUCCESS!
They are now able to get the funding to begin development on a new tactical-shooter that's not just run and gun, Call of Duty or Battlefield 3 junk!
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....ctical-shooter
With his successful campaign, I'm now hoping to interview him and write an article that will (hopefully) be published on various video game news sites to cover this new era of KickStarter funded games.
This is going to be exciting! :D
Less than 48 Hours left to save the Tactical Shooter Genre!

PeterandCompany is doing a KickStarter to have their webcomic made into an animated series! Click here to learn more and show your support!Okay folks, I don't know if you know this, but I have been following the KickStarter Spring lately, and now a campaign I have been following closely is in need of some serious help!
Meet Christian Allen:
https://youtu.be/lRIws52O-_M
This is a guy who has worked on a NUMBER of high-end Tactical First Person Shooter games! He's an ex-Marine who was a lead developer or creative developer for multiple companies like Red Storm Entertainment, and games like Rainbow Six (the original), Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, and the SWAT games!
From his perspective, the "Tactical Shooter" has been dumbed down to the point where it's practically unrecognizable anymore. To him, the modern day Rainbow Six games are more like "24" with Jack Bauer being all gung-ho; too much run-and-gun and not enough planning, strategy, and thinking hard about your decisions that could affect your whole team. He wants to bring that back, and made a KickStarter campaign to revitalize the genre.
Kickstarter.com/Crowdsourced-Hardcore-Tactical-Shooter
But something went wrong. It's not less than 48 hours before his campaign's over, and he has yet to meet the necessary goal required to fund development of a new game! There were misconceptions about what he was trying to do, and ignorance and confusion swept the populace. Examining what happened, Christian revitalized his campaign, and released a new video here, giving more details than the previous one above:
https://youtu.be/7pl9cTz31SQ
Furthermore, recently he was interviewed and answered some more questions about what he's trying to do here:
http://www.vgrevolution.com/2012/03.....ristian-allen/
And now the icing on the cake. It was confirmed today that Sony Computer Entertainment has shut down Zipper Interactive, makers of the long-running SOCOM series of games for the PS2, PSP, and PS3, as well as another game, Unit 13, that will be coming out on the PSVita.
That's about 80 employees who are now out of a job because Sony wasn't trying to push tactical shooters!
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/.....teractive.aspx
But I still believe that there are fans out there. I still believe that there are people that want a GOOD Tactical-Shooter that requires intelligence and teamwork just as much as it does being able to pull the trigger! The problem is they just haven't been made aware that this campaign exists, and that's why I feel obligated to help spread the word.
Ever since the KickStarter Spring began on February 9th, 2012 with the start of Tim Schafer's Double Fine Adventure campaign, I have been following this rise in new campaigns. These campaigns aren't from random kids in college who want to make a new indie game. These campaigns are from game developers who have been in the industry since the 90's, 80's, or even longer! They are seeing opportunities to make games that have been turned down by publishers whenever they went to them to pitch their ideas. These are people that have proven their skills, that have brought teams together to make outstanding games!
And I want them to succeed!
So I ask folks to help push this campaign to victory! If you have even one dollar to pledge, please pledge it so that games we might not see otherwise can have a chance! And I've heard word that Christian Allen is also talking with the Zipper Interactive guys, so who knows?! We may see some of the best minds in the tactical shooting genre of video games join forces to create something spectacular!
Time is running out, so show your support today! And don't forget the campaign for the animated pilot for Peter & Company too! Details above!New Year of the Cow Webcomic is out now!

PeterandCompany is doing a KickStarter to have their webcomic made into an animated series! Click here to learn more and show your support!Hey folks! Things are certainly breezing along here now that things are finally getting going, and that also means that we got a new page of Year of the Cow for your enjoyment!
http://yearofthecow.petitesymphony.com/
That's right, this is Page 14, and it's filled with angst and living bushes!
...and I'm keeping my mouth shut beyond that so I don't stick my foot in it! :)
Also, on a more serious note, my partner in crime,
dyw14 and I have been thinking......with the recent "KickStarter Spring" that started back around mid-February, would anyone be willing to pledge towards a "Year of the Cow" kickstarter campaign if we started one?
and I don't make much money. Our computer power is also limited and a bit old.
dyw14 even does the digital work for the comics (which is the majority of it) on a Windows XP desktop PC. Plus, the software we use is primarily open-source, and I know for a fact that if we had better tools, we could get more pages of the comic out to you folks faster, more reliably, and also improve the overall quality too.Not that the quality of the comics is bad, far from it, but you know what I mean.
Plus, there's a lot of other things we want to do as well, such as do LiveStreams of the comic being made, post speed paint videos to YouTube, even see about doing audio comics! (The comic stays still, but we, or other voice actors/actresses on FA, add vocal talents to make the comic richer!)
These are just ideas, but if we asked for pledges, would you be willing to do that?
After all,
peterandcompany is already well on his way to meet his KickStarter goal to make an animated pilot episode of his webcomic to shop around to networks like Nickelodeon, The Hub, Cartoon Network, Toon Disney, etc., so why not one to help get better hardware and software for making the comic?Whaddya say? Would you be willing to back something like that?
Intelligence is the New Sexy

PeterandCompany is doing a KickStarter to have their webcomic made into an animated series! Click here to learn more and show your support! An interesting concept came to my attention not that long ago, and it's one that might explain a few things as well as forecast possible new trends in the future.
Let me begin by telling you about a man named Benedict Cumberbatch (yes, that IS his real name).
Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor, and currently a sort of heart-throb. Currently, he is not very well known outside of his native territory, the United Kingdom, but he is gradually wooing ladies left and right by the dozens.
And this is what he looks like:
https://youtu.be/OejcihAc77k
(He's the brunette on the left, btw)
Now wait a second, you may be thinking...
THIS guy with his gaunt cheekbones, unkempt curly hair, and overcoat that covers just about everything below his chin is a heart-throb?! What's he been in?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benedict_Cumberbatch
He plays Sherlock Holmes, Victor Frankenstein and his creation, and also played a young Stephen Hawking in a docu-drama?! And THIS is the guy that's winning the hearts of ladies across the world?
Oh yes he is! Just ask Meghan O'Keefe, who wrote this article and confesses to creating her own "Cumbernest" for whenever he's on TV:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/megha.....b_1231634.html
You might now be scratching your head and wondering how this is possible?
He's not overly muscular, in fact he's rather skinny.
He's not overly handsome and his fashion sense is kind of weird.
His voice doesn't seem to fit his own body, it's much deeper than you would expect.
So what is it the ladies like in him?
It hit me when I watched Episode 4 of the smash hit "Sherlock" when the character of Irene Adler says to Sherlock, "Intelligence Is The New Sexy."
A glance over at DeviantArt also seems to solidify this statement. Just look what people have been drawing over there:
http://fav.me/d3ey8ad
http://fav.me/d4ohvpm
http://fav.me/d4n45nb
http://fav.me/d42kvzx
http://lily-fox.deviantart.com/art/How-lovely-you-are-289222274?q=boost%3Apopular%20Benedict%20Cumberbatch&qo=106
And that's just the tip of the ice berg, and don't even get me started on the Slash art there too.
If you ever watch him perform, you realize that he is absolutely brilliant as an actor. He exudes an aura of authority, plays smart, intelligent, sharp roles, and is overall rather "weird". It becomes clear that it's his brain that ladies (and some guys too) are falling head over heels for.
So why am I mentioning this here on a furry art site of all places?
I mention it because if it's true that "Intelligence Is The New Sexy", then it definitely has yet to hit the furry community. You're more than likely to come across characters with chests the size of hot-air balloons (and this holds true for both female AND male characters), genitalia the size of sewer-piping, and muscles and machismo out the ying-yang. This is all fantasy art and frankly quite harmless art at that, but in real life, these fantasies just wouldn't work.
I think
ritts put it best in this comic strip here:
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/3488106/
Sure it's fun to wish you were some demigod sex machine that has a harem of scantily clad, big-bosomed women, or a sky-scraper sized giant that enjoys the feel of helpless masses underneath your pinky toe, or maybe a tiny person going spelunking through your beloved's digestive tract. But at the end of the day, these are all just fantasies and nothing more because they don't exist. Still, the reason people have these fantasies is likely because they THINK that it's what OTHERS want. Guys think women will want big, macho, muscular men with fire hose penises, and Gals think men will want big boobied, hour-glass figures with flowing hair, pouty lips, and bodies to die for.
Benedict Cumberbatch flies in the face of ALL those conceptions. He is attractive, but not in the way that people may think attractiveness is supposed to work.
And I think that's something the furry community should take note of. If more people draw characters that are more realistic, more intelligent, and more down-to-Earth, then it's possible that the conceptions people have on what's sexy might prove to be MISconceptions.
So if you feel like you're not attractive because you're not a macho sex-god or hottie sex-goddess, then have I got good news for you:
Intelligence Is The New Sexy!
https://youtu.be/o-99pXoawt8Peter and Company: The Animated Series KickStarter
General | Posted 13 years agoOkay folks, this is for a good cause so I want eyes focused, ears listening, and attention forward because I want everyone to check this out.
I've been following a rather nice webcomic called "Peter and Company" by FA's own Jon Ponikvar at
peterandcompany that he does with his wife Whitney
catsmeow The comic can be found here at his website:
http://www.peterandcompany.com/
I'd give it a PG rating, possibly PG-13 on occasion, but it's a nice comic with a good story, good characters, and a lot of promise. Anyone can enjoy it, and it's a good read! But just telling you about the comic is not what I'm here for today.
No, I'm here to tell you about the Peter & Company Animated Series that's in the works. Or WILL be in the works, if enough fans and people of interest show their support. Jon's just started a KickStarter today to help fund the creation of an animated pilot that can be shipped around to networks like The Hub, Nickelodeon, Toon Disney, Cartoon Network, etc. for production and distribution.
For more details, here's Jon and Whitney to explain how it works, and give you some more insight into the story:
https://youtu.be/vXSibzS-XOU
So here's where you come in!
Jon and Whitney need to get enough pledges to amount to $10,000 to make this pilot happen. They have 60 days to raise that money, and I have no doubt that they can make it if enough people show their support. All you have to do is go to their KickStarter page here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....animated-pilot
And pledge anywhere between $1 or more to this project. If the project meets its goal, then once the 60 days are up, then Jon and Whitney get the $10,000 needed to make this animated pilot a reality.
Now you may be thinking, "NUTS! I don't get paid until next week! If only I had the money to donate now!" Well that's okay! Whenever you make a pledge using KickStarter, the money you are pledging is not taken out of your bank, credit card, PayPal account, etc. until A) AFTER the 60 day period is over, and B) IF they get enough pledges to meet their $10,000 goal. So if you don't have the money to donate now, that's okay. If you want to save up and have plenty of money for your pledge by the end of the 60 days, that's fine too!
The rewards are really nice, and could even make you a permanent part of his comic, AND the TV series if you pledge enough.
I'm spreading the word because I think that something like this should definitely be made, and I also know first hand that Jon and Whitney are both awesome people. They're easy to talk to, very friendly, and are more than happy to talk to their fans.
Even if you just have $1 to spare, please show your support and pledge to this KickStarter today! Who knows? This may be the start of something big!You know what FA could use more of... POLKA!!!

I just want to apologize for the lateness of today's new comic. Normally I try and get these posted around midnight the day of, but this past week has had some... rather sucky stuff happen to me. It got me bummed out, which affected my writing, which held up the script, and that affected
dyw14 who had issues with the drawing because they got bummed to...
...but it's okay!
I got over it and am doing alright, and so is she.
So please enjoy the new page of "Year of the Cow", and in addition, I'll see if I can make a few updates to the website to help make it up to everyone.

https://youtu.be/OcyKgdGkxE0This one was another favorite tape of mine, but I didn't own it until a few years ago, when someone had found and was selling a collection of tapes, still shrink wrapped, for dirt cheap. I snagged them right up, and should try digitizing them to get as good a quality as I can. It might be worth it. :)
Tune in next Saturday, as I'll be digging out another classic Game Tape. And remember, there's more than just Game Player's Magazine Game Tapes out there. Wait until you meet Skip Rogers!
Game Player's Magazing Game Tapes = My Childhood
General | Posted 14 years agoOnce Upon A Time...
There was no internet.
You couldn't just browse YouTube for Speed Runs, look up walkthoughs, or chat with friends on messenger about game secrets and cool stuff.
But a long time ago, there was one way to do Walkthroughs and it was awesome:
These tapes were treasures of mine when I was little. I would watch this over and over, or just have the tape running in the background because it filled the air with video games. I'd have this tape on in the background when I was playing Game Boy, and it just made things so awesome.
The little jingle at the beginning, the video game music, and seeing the levels I could NEVER reach were always a treat for me. Watching these tapes now fills me with a sort of "Feeling", a feeling of retro gaming that I don't feel as often as I used to.
After finding this, I want to share it with all of you. Remember this tape is also VERY 80's. Thankfully, that should make it just more entertaining.
Enjoy!
Okay, on that last part with Amagon, you may be wondering "WTF was up with that sound?"
That was what was, back in the day, known as "Slo-Mo". The controller would constantly pause and un-pause the game rapidly (pressing Start again and again), which would allow for slow motion game play, making it easier to dodge rapidly moving fire and enemies. It didn't work on some games because for many games (and practically all games these days), "Pausing" the game brings up a sub-menu. This can take a few seconds each time the pause button is pressed, so pausing can slow the game down in some games.
But back then, it was Pause and BAM! Game stops. Maybe a little pause sound effect, but not much else.
And now you know...

Oh yeah! A webcomic I'm writing for has been published!
General | Posted 14 years agoSurprised I haven't mentioned this yet. Man, I can be so forgetful sometimes!
Anyway, I would like everyone to know that currently I have a webcomic going online at the moment!
I've teamed up with artist
dyw14 to script her original idea for a comic called "Year of the Cow". I discovered her art work here some time ago, and was so inspired by the potential, that I began posting comments with all kinds of ideas, thoughts, and suggestions.
dyw14 liked them enough that we became partners in art and are now working together to make Year of the Cow a new online comic success!
We only have two pages published so far, but check back every Wednesday to see new pages posted. Currently our portion of the website is still under construction, as we plan to include a fleshed out gallery, archive, about page, links page, and character bios page. As time goes by, we hope to have more content "unlock" as the story continues. Please read it and let us know what you think!
The story focuses on 16-year old high school girl, Mui Take (pronounced TAH-kei). A young cow girl living in a small village with her panda mother. However, when a new exchange student joins the school, things in Mui's life suddenly change, and will never be the same again.
Please enjoy!

https://youtu.be/ce9J-J30B3oBig props to
David_the_Ultimate whose journal was where I first saw this amazing video. Since he urged others to spread this amazing piece of Epic, and I do mean EPIC, win, I submitted this as a tip off to Kotaku. And they USED IT!

Although part of that high five goes to
David_the_Ultimate since without him, I probably wouldn't have heard of it in time to send the tip off. Thanks much for sharing! :)Now I'm off to go piledrive a shark!
Avenger Time with Cap, Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man
General | Posted 14 years agoThe Next Big Thing
General | Posted 14 years agoThe past few months, the fandom has been dominated by ponies. Pony-sonas, Pony fan fiction, Pony music videos, you name it. With fans eagerly awaiting Season 2, something's bound to fill the void and give fans something to "Ooh" and "Aah" at.
Enter Thundercats...
26 years after the show premiered in 1985, another staples of the 80's has returned in a relaunch that's set to take the fandom by storm.
The new show is animated by Studio 4°C, who did awesome work on numerous anime and USA collaboration projects (Halo: Legends, Batman: Gotham Knight, Animatrix) as well as video games (like "Catherine" which was just released). The animation is pretty, crisp, and definitely of high quality.
The voice acting is also excellent too. Will Friedle, the guy who voiced Terry McGinniss on Batman Beyond as well as numerous other roles, will be the new voice of Lion-O: the protagonist and main character. Even more impressive is that they got the ORIGINAL Lion-O, Larry Kenneth, to come back and provide his voice as Lion-O's father: King Claudus.
While I never thought about the old Rankin-Bass show's voices that much, hearing the original Lion-O here in this show definitely strikes a chord. It's probably part nostalgia, but also likely because he WAS Lion-O, and his experience helps add a sort of "King-ly" tone in his lines. Listening to him makes you think "Yeah, that is the voice of a King!"
The other voices are really good too. The only voices that seem "off" to me are Wily Kit and Wily Kat. For some reason, I think the two voices should have been reversed. To me it sounds like Wily Kit (the girl) has a slightly deeper voice than Wily Kat (the boy). Maybe it's just me.
Anyway, having the seen the first episode, I already predict that as the season continues, I expect this to be the new thing to make the fandom swoon. I'm sure the ponies will still be popular, but a battle of 80's franchises is not out of the question as far as I'm concerned. Already, fans are beginning to do what fans do and start mashing things up:
So this should be an interesting next few months as the show that helped a LOT of people get into the fandom (You Cheetara fans know who you are) sees a revival that so far is looking VERY promising.
And for those of you who are too young to know just what the flip I'm talking about, here's a primer from everyone's favorite Internet Celebrity: "The Angry Video Game Nerd".
Now it should be noted that the new series does not follow the same plot as the original show, but will have a number of similar characters, elements, landmarks, and more.
And Snarf doesn't talk in the new series.
