The Cove
Posted 15 years agoI saw it. It was very good. To be honest, I was afraid to watch it at first. I though it would be very hard to watch, but it was exciting and most of it was kind of fun. There are some uncomfortable scenes of course, especially near the end. I'd imagine it would be more shocking to someone who didn't have any idea what was going on in Japan. It's about an ex-dolphin trainer and a group of really awesome people trying to expose the brutal slaughter in a hidden cove. I think everyone should see this movie, even you! Even if you don't love dolphins as much as I do or don't even like them much at all, it's an important film. My highschool friend saw it and for the first time since I've known him, I could talk to him about dolphins without being made fun of.

Posted 15 years agoHow has everyone been? Seemed like I haven't updated in a while. Not like it's important or anything.
Work on the boat has been awfully slow. I did get the sails up a few weeks ago and discovered my reefing system doesn't make any sense. I won't immerse you in a bunch of nautical language, but reefing means shortening sail in heavy weather by pulling the sail down with lines lead through holes in the sail. Well, one of my reefing lines has no place to be ties on to after it has been led through the reef cringle. Also, the adjustable batten is very interesting.
As for my event, I wrote a letter to town council requesting permission to use the park as a venue. They will (hopefully) review it during the next meeting. I'm hoping that if a set date is approved, I can get more people interested or involved. I can also work on things like posters. Want to come/contribute?
I've been cleaning my room. That's fun. :P I need to find a clock movement somewhere. My clock stopped working years ago. But it has a cool neon light in it, so I want to try to fix it. Also, I was thinking of replacing the dial with a painting so something that looks good in blue light. Another project.
Would anyone like to make me a free icon? I need a new one and I can't make one myself with this phone. On that note, trades and commissions are closed until further notice. This will only effect two people of course, but I like my rest cycles. ^.=.^ I will get bored again, so I hope you're thinking of ideas!
I need to get to a dentist. My teeth have been hurting. Too much free cake. x.x
I start the day shift on Friday. I have to go early but not too early tomorrow. While I'm looking forward to spending more evenings outside watching the stars and fire flies come out, getting up early will be a chore, and my coworkers are getting on my nerves already. My friend who works as a substitute will be working in a different building so I'll have no one sane to work with. It's going to be a long summer. At least I can work in the garden on bad days. Nobody else likes that job. :3

1) Post these rules
2) Post 8 true things about yourself
3) At the end you must tag 8 people and post their icons
4) Go to their page and send them a message saying you tagged them
5) NO TAG-BACKS
1. I made a facebook page for my event yesterday. One person already said they won't come. It's called For the love of dolphins
2. My pants are wet. I took a walk in the rain
3. I'm still looking for poster designs.
4. I want to charter a 30 foot sailboat this winter in either the Caribbean or Hawaii. So far I have one friend who will definitely go.
5. I love being a dragon. Recently, I've been feeling more spiritually attached to my avatar than when I first discovered anthropomorphics. I'm kind of nervous about talking about it. X3
6. I'm going to rig my boat tomorrow for the first time, if the weather cooperates.
7. I wish I didn't meet so many people I felt uncomfortable around. Edit: I feel comfortable here though. :3
8. I enjoyed this meme.

I'm looking for artists
Posted 15 years agoTo design posters and flyers or any other kind of art for my event. I want something eye catching, something that will compel people to part with their $10 and help save dolphins. I'm going to try something, but I'm not sure my style will work. It's too cutesy. So, if you or you know someone that would be willing to make something (preferably for free) I'd love to know. :3
In more selfish news, I finally got the first major step in getting my boat ready. I got a hitch. But, due to circumstances beyond my control, my exhaust system needed repairing as well which cleared my bank account. So I may not be able to get Dawn Puffin on the water by the end of June as I had originally hoped. But if I can get the hitchball, and if the weather cooperates, I may be able to rig her for the first time this weekend. Be prepared for myspace style photos. ;3
Also, my uncle should be coming up from North Carolina this weekend. I hadn't seen him in about 5 years. Should be fun.
I saw How to Train Your Dragon last Saturday. But I figure enough has been said about it already. I bought the soundtrack.
"Finally, as she took one last dunk, she made such a large wave that it carried all the oil, all the garbage, and all that junk, and threw it right up on the shore- and on top of all the land dwellers who had thrown it into the sea to begin with." - Serendipity, the Pink Dragon

Posted 15 years agoBut not quite overwhelmed. Not yet.
I have decided to call my event For the Love of Dolphins. If you think it's silly, please let me know. I have worked out a list of things I need to work on. You may notice some of these ideas are yours. I'm not stealing them and calling them my own. Thanks for everyone's input.
Find out about using park- goes without saying. I don't know who to talk to yet
Volunteers- I'm just one little dragon. :)
Flyers, posters- I want something that will catch someone's eye. Something that will compel people to part with their $10
Food, water- what's a party without food? I want to try and stay away from bottled water and have some sort of coolers.
Music- I've talked to a few local musicians. They said they might play if I can secure a drum set
Trinkets to sell- I saw dolphin bottle openers on Ebay once.
Silent auction- wouldn't it be awesome if someone donated a sailboat? Or I can persuade the local spa for sponsorship. Or maybe even talk the marinas into taking some lucky ducks out.
Camping locations- someone mentioned I host a camping trip this summer. Why not do it all at once? I was dreaming all winter of sailing around the lake and camping on the beach.
Hotels- if you're traveling a long distance and don't like sleeping on the ground. Since I live here, I don't need to know where the hotels are.
If anyone has any more ideas, or would like to lend a hand with any of this stuff, let me know. Thanks. :D
For those of you that I owe sculptures, I'm so sorry I'm not getting them done. There is a lump of clay on my table with two legs sticking out and it's been sitting there all week. I just can't get myself to work on it. The weather has been too beautiful to stay inside, and I've been tinkering with my boat to escape the world. But the weather is changing for the worst this weekend. The wind has died down, and there has been streaks of cirrus in the sky today. Just now the cirrus has turned into some type of menacing stratus I couldn't identify. According to local forecasts, it's going to snow this weekend.
Meeting a local furry tomorrow for lunch. And give him his badge I made. ^_^

Ohmygosh, I had an amazing idea!
Posted 15 years agoSO! Being and ocean lover it's easy to understand how upset I am about this oil spill. For a while I was just sitting here feeling rotten for not doing anything. BUT, as some of you will recall, I was going to organize a run to benefit dolphins that are so dear to me. Well, why couldn't I benifit both at the same time? As for running, well, I sort of scrapped that idea. Instead there is a nice little park in front of the courthouse in town. I want to get together some sort of barbecue or something for furries and non-furries alike. I think a lot more people are likely to show up if they don't have to run. They still have to go outside though, but I hope that's not asking too much. I'm not sure about a date yet though. But what do you think?
That's better
Posted 15 years agoI took a walk today. When I lived in town I used to visit a stream behind the catholic school with the dog, Luke. I visited it again today. He likes to chase skipping stones. ^_^ There is a small island made of stones at one part in the stream. You have to walk down a steep incline to get to it. At the bottom of the hill we found a makeshift tent made out of plastic and old realty signs. It must have been a hobo shack. :P There was some old lawn chairs and looked like flower boxes in the trees. We didn't disturb it.
After some wanderings through the pine forrest we got to what we call "turkey hill" we saw turkeys in the moonlight there once and the name stuck. It was a very pretty hill, but it was unearthed and building permits were stuck on the trees. That's always disappointing. We didn't climb it but hung around on the other side of the stone wall. I always expect to see a triceratops wander through there for some reason. :P lots of huge sandstone boulders. We didn't see any dinosaurs, but Luke found some deer to chase.
It was a very nice day. The wind has picked up now. Makes me wish I had a boat. X3

My contest is going to end May 4th due to lack of interest. If you are planning on entering but don't think you'll make the deadline, please tell me and I'll bring back the original deadline.
And I'm open for a trade or two. Or commissions. But if you have the money for commissions spend it on the journal above. :P

Sails on the Horizon
Posted 15 years agoJust wanted to bump that dreadful emo journal off my page. You all did a wonderful job inspiring me, particularly
helixthefallen for giving me the most fantastic idea. More on this when I work out more details. ;3
I've decided the deadline for my contest will be May 4th. Contest details are here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1312329/
Oh yeah, I'm open for a couple more commissions or trades if any one is interested. You know you want to. ^_^

Posted 15 years agoTell me uplifting things. Or talk to me on aim. That works too.
Also trades and commissions are open again, but probably for a limited time. I can only handle so much art and then I need a break.
Contest is still open for now too. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1312329/
I wonder why it's so easy for me to feel blue lately.

100 Themes and other releativly unimportant things.
Posted 15 years agoSo I finished the book I was reading. I can't (don't want to) pay for the next one in the series. I believe it's Midshipman Hornblower as I like to read books in the order in which they are written not prequels first. Anyway, I have nothing to do when I come home from work at night and can't sleep now. I don't like spending all night on the internet, like I'm doing now, so I've decided to do this overwhelming 100 themes thing. I will draw or sketch something for each of the categories listed below. I think it will be very interesting to see what I come up with and hopefully expand my artistic and creative boundaries. And you should do it too. :P

So i herd you liek animulz
Posted 15 years agoFrom the journal of

"Okay, my friends. I'm going to be doing something really, really important, and I need your help.
I have the Humane Society on a few networking sites, and following some links of theirs, I found myself looking at the plight of the tigers. They are third on the list of most endangered mammals, right under the black rhino, and giant panda. I cried, seeing that there were less than 3500 tigers left in the wild.
Today, spreading the word isn't enough, and I know I need to do something. It's not going to be big. Obviously I can't donate 400 million dollars to conservation efforts, but I can make a little money, and I can make some of you all smile.
Here's what I want to do.
I'm opening up 20 lots for sketches at $10 each. EACH SKETCH will send $5 to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and $5 will go to shipping your sketch and supplies. I have a collection of 20 quotes to choose from. If you want, I'll sketch your character. Or I can sketch a scene with your favorite animal, or you can let me sketch something that relates to your quote. You will receive the original sketch by mail. When I finish the 20 sketches, I will open up 20 more slots....I want to keep this going as long as I can do it. I will keep a list of commissioners who contributed, and it will be sent along with the contribution.
So, here are the 20 quotes/slots.
1. When you realize the value of all life, you dwell less on what is past and concentrate more on the preservation of the future." - Dian Fossey
2. Only if we understand can we care. Only if we care will we help. Only if we help shall they be saved. -Jane Goodall
3. The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves. -Jane Goodall
4. I have no fear of losing my life - if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it. -Steve Irwin
5. The older I get, the more individuality I find in animals and the less I find in humans. -Chuck Jones
6. The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?" -Jeremy Bentham
7. May all that have life be delivered from suffering. -Buddha
8. The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man. -Charles Darwin
9. Killing an animal to make a coat is sin. It wasn't meant to be, and we have no right to do it. -Doris Day
10. If a man aspires towards a righteous life, his first act of abstinence is from injury to animals. -Albert Einstein
11. It's sad. That's a living creature. We don't have the right to take their life away for fashion. -Carmen Electra
12. As custodians of the planet it is our responsibility to deal with all species with kindness, love and compassion. -Richard Gere

peacheswolfiez"Okay, my friends.
13. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages. -Thomas Jefferson

Contest!
Posted 15 years agoIf I haven't already told you,or if you have been in a coma for a few months, I bought a boat. She's not sea worthy yet, but I won't bore you with details. I'm going to name her Dawn Puffin and a photo of her dry sailing with her spars down is in my scraps folder. Anyway, when I get her shipshape and bristol fashion I'm going to work on embellishments like flags. "Flags are fun and most sailors know it since they fly lots of them" says John Rousmaniere. I would like to fly a private signal at my mast head.
This is where the contest comes in, so ignore that first paragraph if you haven't already. I would like you to design a private signal for my boat's owner and skipper. (Me) a private signal is a small flag that represents the owner of the signal and is flown on any vessel on which the flag owner is in command. Usually with symbols and such. I could easily design one my self, but I get too many ideas and I'm curious to see what everyone will come up with. And besides, but better judge of first impressions than people who aren't me. I might post an idea of mine too, but I can't come in first place.
Here are the rules:
1. It has to be simple. I'm probably going to make it myself, so no complicated or intricate designs or a hundred colors with gradient shading. Also the flag is small. According to The Annapolis Book of Seamanship "the dimensions are on the fly (horizontal), approximately 1/2 inch for each 1 foot between the water and the top of the mast. (About twenty give or take a few feet in my case) and on the hoist (vertical) two thirds length of the fly."
2. It can be of any flag shape; rectangle, pennant or swallow tail, whatever works best with your design.
3. It can not contain any vulgar language or depict something explicit. Not only do I not condone that sort of stuff, it's probably illegal. (Loophole: check out my highschool art. Not exactly explicit.) It also may not deface the United States ensign, the Pennsylvania ensign, or any other national colors. Pirate flags are perfectly legal, you see them all the time in the Caribbean.
4. It must reflect my personality and/or things I believe in or stand for as a person. I deeply love and respect the sea and all the creatures in it, particularly dolphins. it hurts me to know that some people willfully harm the above whatever I just said. Also, I'm completely open about my furriness.
5. There is no 5.
6. It can not be confused with other signal colors. I don't want people thinking I'm dragging my anchor when I haven't left the trailer. :P I'm sure you can look up the list of signals online.
7. Have fun. This is a contest for anybody, even furs who say they can't draw. I encourage everyone to participate. Your ideas are too precious to go unnoticed.
Prizes? First place prize is obviously seeing their design flying at my mast head. And I'll draw them a full color drawing of something of their choice. I'm not sure how it will be judged yet. Probably by your fellow furs and myself or whatever.
If everyone is OK with it, the contest will end in exactly one month. If enough people tell me they need more time, I'll fly the postponement signal. Or maybe it will end in two months but if no one is interested after one month, that's when we'll judge. Upload entries to your gallery, and send me a shout or note with a link.
Any questions? Ready... GO!

I can't see your comments
Posted 15 years agoOr your submissions. I'm assuming it has something to do with my phone, for that is what I use to connect to the internet. So I won't be very active until I can figure this out. I can still read notes for some reason though, so if you really need to say something that is still available. Don't bother commenting on this. It is just an update, and it's really frustrating to see my messages go up and not be able to read them. I dunno, I'll try again tomorrow, but I may just need an actual computer. :P
Human Sexualtiy Survey (not a meme or a joke)
Posted 15 years agoA friend of mine is doing a project for her human sexuality class. And I thought all you weirdo- er... diverse, open minded people would add a lot of useful data. Only serious answers please.

Posted 15 years agoIt ruins my day.
In other news.... I rigged the new halyards on my boat. But I didn't want to leave them in the weather so I took them off. But at least I understand how they go on now. Next I'll see about the boom and reefiing system and cunningham.
Commissions open to pay for all this nautical nonsense.
