For Sale: One Slightly Damaged Family - May Contain Nuts
Posted 14 years ago*sigh*
Tonight I figured out that my grandmother had recently had surgery.
Over Facebook...
In an instant message...
Is communicating with family so hard that no one can text me and say the following?
"Hey, Grandma's going in for surgery on [date] for [issue], she'll be at [hospital]."
Apparently, because while my sister's ex (a longterm friend of mine) knew about this, I didn't hear a damned thing until a WEEK after the surgery itself.
It bothers me most that no one even THOUGHT to inform me of this, it was assumed that I somehow knew. Hold on, let me consult the magical leprechaun who lives up my ass, maybe he knows... Nope, no one told him either. -.-
End snark.

Ten Things About Me.
Posted 14 years agoThe Rules:
- You must post these rules.
- Each tagged person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
- You have to choose and tag 10 people and post their icons on the same journal.
- Go to their pages and tell them you tagged them!
Thing one:
I often question the way I react to people. I tend not to exhibit things like “normal human emotions” much and sometimes I wonder if I may be lacking some fundamental piece of humanity. I tend to get very emotionally distant and/or numb when I’m stressed.
Thing two:
I have a collection of nerdy plush animals that includes two Angry Birds (a big red one and a little black one), a Skelanimal Tarantula, a dragon, and a flying monkey from Wicked.
Thing three:
I don’t like being argumentative, though there are people who inspire the trait in me. Some people are loudly opinionated and need to be knocked down a peg in order to be socially tolerable. I’m not excluding myself from this category at all.
Thing four:
I often make light of things that make me uncomfortable. It’s not always conscious, and I don’t always realize it. I try to play off things that bother me, which gives the mistaken impression that I don’t care about the subject matter.
Thing five:
I’ve never really felt like I fit into a single gender category. This said, I’m not looking to alter myself, as I’m okay with the gender I’ve been assigned by genetics. I exhibit both male and female personality traits, and have always seen myself as amalgamate of male and female as opposed to a single assignment. This said, I don’t generally understand hermaphrodite characters.
Thing six:
I wish I knew more about artistry and multi-media, but I have no real interest in being a full time artist. I enjoy the creative process, but would be maddened if I had to rely on it for income. I’ve dabbled in several formats (pencil, pastel, acrylic, clay, sculpey, and digital) but have never mastered anything.
Thing seven:
I hold the personal belief that sexuality is fluid, if only for myself. I have days where different types of people are attractive to me, and others where no specific type of individual holds my interest. I’ve never believed that a person was only as deep as their appearance, as everyone has something attractive about them at some level or another. For me, attraction has always been about unwinding the mystery of who someone is, not what they look like.
Thing eight:
I often feel as though I’ve wasted my formative years. I never went to post-secondary of any sort and only fluked into a well-paying job that interests me. I wish I were driven enough to find something that rendered me passionate enough to pursue it as a career.
Thing nine:
I’ve always been obsessed with Halloween. Something about being someone else for a day appeals to me on a very visceral level. This probably indicates that I don’t like being myself very much, which is an issue of some internal debate.
Thing ten:
Since I became an adult, I stopped having much interest in receiving gifts, but giving them has been something I greatly enjoy. I’m not entirely sure what this means, but that’s how I roll.
Also, I don't tag people for memes. If you care to do it, go for it. I always enjoy perpetuating meme-y goodness.
Heck, even post your ten things here in comments, I like to know these things. =3

Dear migraine, kindly go to Hell.
Posted 14 years agoMigraines really do suck. I get what are called Basilar migraines.
For me this means the following.
I see auras. I don't mean in an 'is the spirit with us now' type either. In migraine sufferers, an aura can manifest as just about any kind of visual disturbance. In my case, this starts as a faint blur around anything I try to focus on, and worsens until the 'true' migraine (the pain part) kicks in.
If I medicate around the 'aura' phase, sometimes I can avoid the attack all around.
I get vertigo and nausea.
After the aura, I have at least an hour of vertigo, my perceptions warp, perspectives seem surreal, and invariably I feel quite sick in this phase. Sometimes the vertigo comes and goes either with or in tandem with the headache pain itself.
I suffer photosensitivity.
After the first hour of a migraine, unless I medicate to mitigate, I can't stand any kind of light for at least three hours. I have a sleep mask I will wear if it's daylight, or lock myself as best able in a room without any light. This part is accompanied by sharp pain any time I move my eyes, regardless of the level of darkness surrounding.
I can't speak or write coherently.
I'm not exactly full of comprehension on why this happens, but in the swing of migraine, throughout the phases of nausea, photosensitivity, and the tail end of the aura phase, I can hardly speak. It takes a great deal of collected concentration on my end to phrase sentences, and I often jumble not only the order of words, but the words themselves.
To liken it to another state of mind, it feels as though I'm blind drunk, and for some reason what I want to say doesn't come out properly.
This translates to my typing as well. When fighting migraines, it takes me ten times as long to write anything. What I am able to write is usually nonsensical, lacking in coherence and reads as though I don't understand the English language.
This annoys me to no end, being unable to communicate efficiently, and it ceases only when all other symptoms but the headache itself have passed.
Anyways, done my migraine rant, going to get ready for work now.

Ten Things - Meme

The Rules:
- You must post these rules.
- Each tagged person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
- You have to choose and tag 10 people and post their icons on the same journal.
- Go to their pages and tell them you tagged them!
One!
I'm a comic book nerd. Being female, this can make life a bit awkward for me. No matter what you look like (and I'm no catch), male comic book fans invariably get creepy around me.
To clarify, simply because I read the same comics you do does not mean I want to date you and/or suck your dick. Just no.
Also, don't ask...
Two!
I'm a horror movie junkie. Hollywood, Asian, B, realistic, it's all good. I dig a good monster movie as much as I can get into a believable horror flick.
In clarification, My current faves for horror movies are the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street (dream living psycho pedophile who can kill you in your sleep), Martyrs (French horror, people doing really screwed up things to one another, could possibly happen if people got messed up enough), Tokyo Gore Police (Asian horror, doesn't even pretend to make sense. Engineers are people who grow biomechanical weapons from wounds. Penis cannon, that's all I have to say.) and Human Centipede (freaky ass German doctor decided to sew three people together ass to mouth and keep them as a pet. Freaky and kind of fascinating at the same time).
Three!
I'm very addicted to Dr. Pepper. If I were cut, I might bleed it.
Four!
Beyond the internet, maybe eleven people know I'm bisexual. I'm not entirely closeted, but I'm cautious about who that information gets to. I've been friends with a few hellfire and brimstone Christians, so I'm a bit uneasy of coming out to friends unless I know them really well and don't think they'll freak out.
Five!
I'm something of a meme addict. This may stem from my being exceptionally open with people who show some interest in me. I'm very rarely shy about sharing personal sentiments and details, especially online.
Don't misunderstand, there are very few people I would randomly spout, "Wow, I just had the best sex ever!" to at random (aside of jokes). I have a very quirky sense of humour, but not everyone is interested in the nitty gritty.
Six!
I've been obsessed with dragons since childhood. When I was a child, I loved Dudley the Dragon, and I grew into things like Dragonheart. I don't know what it is about them, they're just awesome.
Which might lead people to ask, why isn't your personal avatar in the fandom a dragon?
Largely, I saw there were a fuckton of them, and I wanted to be a snowflake. Doesn't mean I dislike dragon characters, I have some good friends who lean that way, actually. I think dragons are most possibly the most customizable species (real or imagined) there is, which is very cool, but I like presenting as a chameleon nonetheless.
Seven!
I am (probably sadly) very proud of myself when it comes to my job. I work technical support for a local ISP and Digital Cable Provider. I've worked with them for the past year and change, and in that time I've managed to win multiple awards and earn three promotions.
In the past two months, I've won five awards, and sadly, I'm very proud of this. The interesting part will be the gala luncheon for one of these, given that I almost panic given public recognition.
Eight!
In the past three weeks, I've been to four countries aside of my native one. My husband and I took a vacation across the Atlantic from our home country of Canada. We visited England, Wales, the Republic of Ireland, and North Ireland. Thius was my first cross continental flight, and was surprisingly entertaining.
Nine!
I love musicals. Not just a little, a lot. I've seen quite a few to date, though my all time favorite is Repo! The Genetic Opera.
Weirdly enough, the close second is Mamma Mia. O.o
ABBA is surprisingly awesome for musical movie selections!
Ten!
I've officially tasted ten year old Bushmill's Irish Whisky. We were in Ireland, and so on a whim we picked some up for our group of friends.
It's foul! It was like liquefying an ash tray and drinking it! Ugh!
Then again, I thought Guiness (also tried in Ireland) tasted like stewed wood. Not tasty, and thick enough to choke on. Ick!

- Used someone?: Given that I’ve been on the receiving end of this and find it reprehensible, I have not.
- Done something you regret?: Yeah, but I think most everyone regrets something.

Dublin - Day 14
Posted 14 years agoToday I got to sleep in!
We started off with a trip on the DART to Dalkey Castle. The castle itself was more a warehouse with fortifications, but it was pretty neat. We had a guide dressed up in Tudor style, and we learned a fair bit about the way the building was laid out. Very cool tidbits all around, and we had a lot of fun wandering through the battlements and listening to the guide.
The next thing we did was a wander through Bray, which was cool enough, but all we really did was have lunch.
We then wandered through the port town of Howth (which is pronounced 'ho'-th, which was a bit odd for me). Apparently there are seals in the waters, but we didn't see any. Enh, had a pretty good time overall, and had supper in a nice little bistro just off the mooring.
Anyways, early day tomorrow, up at 4:45 am to catch the plane home. There's going to be 15 hours in combination between airplanes and airports, so that'll be fun. If the airports have WiFi I may hop online.

Dublin - Day 13
Posted 14 years agoToday was another early start. 5:30 in the morning to be exact.
Today we went on a bus tour of the nine glens and the Giant's Causeway.
Both of these were quite fun, and we also watched some of our tour group attempt a rope bridge suspended 80 metres over the Atlantic Ocean.
We weren't suicidal enough to attempt the bridge. And that was BEFORE it started raining and made everything slippery as all Hell.
The Giant's Causeway was very cool, all of the rocks around there are hexagonal, having to do with salt formations, as per my husband. I dunno, as such, I just thought it looked really neat.

Dublin - Day 12
Posted 14 years agoToday my husband and I took a bus tour of the Ring of Kerry, a peninsula in the south west of Ireland.
We got a bunch of great pictures, saw some very gorgeous landscape, and I got to hold a baby deer. That was pretty awesome, actually, he was adorable!
We did a bit of walking, which was not bad, but by the end of the day, it was the sitting that bothered me, my thighs seem to have been getting used to walking, and now going down stairs is a miserable experience due to minor atrophy.
Anyways! I've determined that there ought to be a special place in Hell for disruptive young tourists who are constantly late for rendezvous times, smuggle alcohol onto an unlicensed bus, and squeal and laugh shrilly over anything and everything.
I was of course seated right behind this pair, and was having trouble resisting the urge to knock their heads together. Based on how the other tourists were looking at them, I might have been praised.
Beyond this, the day was pretty good, I had Bailey's ice cream, which was a great thing, I may have to learn how to make this myself.
Anyways, Giant's Causeway is next, and I'll admit some trepidation to going into North Ireland, given some stories my friend in Plymouth and her fiance told me. I dunno, some anxiousness, but I may be paranoid.

Dublin - Day 11
Posted 14 years agoToday started early, and by early I mean 5:3 am.
We went to the train station today to meet our tour group for Blarney Castle, Cork, and Cobh.
I liked the exterior of Blarney, though it kind of unnerved me while I was climbing the steps to learn that the spiral case narrowed dramatically at the top. I'm not usually a claustrophobe, but I am uneasy around heights. The staircase was really close, the steps were rather steep, and the only means of support was a shaky rope.
Regardless, I made it to the top of the castle! I did not kiss the Blarney Stone, but my husband did. I took one look at the overhang, weighed it against my shaking hands, and said, "Not happening."
The steps down were even more unnerving, as the angle of the steps doesn't allow much visibility, but at least there were rails this time.
Cork was a lovely town, but all we really did was a driving tour of the place.
Cobh (pronounced 'Cove') was a gorgeous little port town, including the last port that the Titanic docked at before embarking over the ocean (though it was called Queenstown at the time).
There was also a very big cathedral in Cobh, which was quite pretty, though as I've possibly mentioned prior, there are a LOT of cathedrals in both England and Ireland. It's starting to blur in my mind, a lot of the buildings have stuff in common.
Tomorrow is the Ring of Kerry (probably butchering the spelling), and just as early a start as today was. Anyways, sleep beckons, just as soon as I finish the picture upload to Facebook.

Dublin - Day 10
Posted 14 years agoOur day was pretty calm to start with, we spent about two hours touring a botanical garden. I found so many awesome and weird flowers and plants. This was pretty cool, and I snagged a lot of neat pictures.
The next place was the Dublin Writer's Museum, which was pretty neat. I learned a few neat little facts, such as Oscar Wilde once spent time in jail for being caught intimately with another man. That was an odd thing to see, but that's pretty cool.
I also got to see a first edition print of Bram Stoker's Dracula. That was pretty awesome.
I picked up James Joyce's Ulysses and a collection of stories by Bram Stoker.
Anyways, that's about all we did, but ran around for a while at random stores.

Dublin - Day 9
Posted 14 years agoSo today we got off to an eccentric start. That in and of itself was entertaining.
Last night marked the first full night's sleep I've had since we flew over. This was awesome, as I really friggin' needed it by this point.
Enormous bed is enormous, not that I'm complaining, but when you can't find the edge, it gets a bit unnerving.
Anyways!
We started our day with a tram tour, ending at a stop called Jervis. Now, right across from the tram stop, I saw an interesting sign...
National Leprechaun Museum
Well, who wouldn't wonder what went on in there?
Naturally, being a folklore junky, I had to investigate. For about 10 euros, you get a rather entertaining romp through the folklore and storytelling tradition of Ireland.
Our guide was a spunky little thing with a great sense of humour, and she just brought the whole place to life for us.
There were several themed rooms, including one called 'The Giant's Room' where (go figure) everything is enormous in scale. I have an amazing photo of my husband on a huge chair with a huge teacup, which is now my new favorite picture of him. It's on Facebook, for those who care to look, and he'll likely kill me when he discovers this. >.>
Tora, it was SO worth it!
We got to hear a few interesting stories from the young lady running the tour, which was quite a treat, as she was quite a skilled storyteller.
I learned today that leprechauns are always depicted in old stories as wearing red hats, something I hadn't known prior.
I also learned that Walt Disney apparently spent several months in Ireland hunting leprechauns. I'm not shitting you, the man was apparently obsessed, and was legitimately hunting leprechauns. That made me laugh so hard!
After the Leprechaun Museum (yes I still feel odd typing that) we went to Dublinia, which is a look at the Viking and Medieval development of Dublin as a whole. It tied in with Christ Church Cathedral, which was on the whole a lot more interesting.
On a random note, apparently Dublin is pretty strange in that it has three cathedrals in the city's limits. I'm not sure what the average is, per se, but that's a lot of cathedrals.
Christ Church was beautiful, even from the perspective of heathen agnosticism I hail from. Even though I may not be a chuchgoer, I can certainly appreciate the effort and artistry present in a cathedral.
Also, there's a tidbit about the Cathedral that intrigued me quite a bit. Apparently once one of the Archbishops (Saint Laurence O'Toole) died, his heart was deemed a healing artifact and remains in the cathedral. It's encased in an iron heart (the <3, not the thumpy type) and is held in a small chapel on site in an iron cage of sorts. This definitely appealed to my sense of the macabre, and yes, I even took a picture of it.
We had a lovely supper at a nearby pub (which had the absolute best seafood chowder I've ever eaten!) and came back to the hotel.
Tomorrow we're tackling a Botanical Garden and the Dublin Writer's Museum, possibly Moore's street as well.
The crypt was also pretty fun,

Holyhead and Dublin - Day 8
Posted 14 years agoSo today was a travel day, which was kind of a nice break from all of the walking (at least my feet and their blisters approved, yeesh) we've done over the past week.
The day started pretty early, caught a train out of Euston station for Holyhead on Virgin Rails around 8 am. We had to train swap at one point to another train partway through the trip down though, but even that was relatively painless.
One thing I will say to North American tourists going to Europe, don't expect an enormous room. Our London hotel was only big enough to contain the Double Bed and the meagre space to walk around it. The bathroom was maybe six square feet, including shower stall.
Anyways, train!
I slept the first half of the train trip, which seems to be pretty standard (especially when woken up at 5:30 am) for me at this point. Not too bad, after the train swap I stayed up, watched a lot of sheep pass (which is neat for me, as in my neck of the woods, we have mostly cattle). I also made a sizeable dent in The Witching Hour by Anne Rice on my e-reader.
By the way, e-readers, best things ever for travelling... My husband brought the first three Discworld books by Terry Pratchett and is almost done the second already, and we have a bunch of longish train trips left, not to mention an 8 hour flight home. I have a Kobo (the equivalent to a Kindle, for the Amazon fans) and not to mention the 20 books I have loaded and purchased, I already had 100 books pre-loaded. I think I win, but I may compromise with him. If he finishes his books, I'll swap him the Kobo for the Discworld books and we'll both be happy.
After the train trip to Holyhead (which is pronounced 'holly-head' to me, despite the lack of second 'l' in the word) we had a nice lunch at a pub in town (as most of the town, it being Sunday, was closed for some reason). We then caught a first class ferry out of Holyhead for Dublin.
The ferry ride was quite pleasant, despite my inherent unease around travelling over large bodies of water (I nearly freaked out on the plane when crossing the North Atlantic) without sight of land. The ferry was pretty good though, and we landed in Dublin around 7pm.
We were picked up by a private car service from the terminal (which was awesome, as apparently a private driver is the same price as the local taxis). Though for the life of me I can't recall his name, I quite liked the fellow, who gave us an impromptu tour of Dublin itself while driving us to the hotel, including advice on some of the local pubs and nightspots. He also gave us some history on Dublin itself, which was all quite appreciated by both my husband and me.
Now, we knew on booking that the hotel we'd selected was under new management and would not be exactly what we booked. We ended up paying 550 Euros or something near (approximately 750 dollars) for the week here. Now... When we got into the lobby, I thought we had the wrong hotel... This place is amazing!
Now, we're here for 7 nights, which comes down to a little over 100$ a night. Where we're from, that's a Best Western or a Holiday Inn. This place is simply stunning, and the room is as big as our Living Room at hgme! Fook! I want to steal the hotel room when I leave! This place is EASILY worth at least 200 to 300$ per night...
Anyways, I'm gonna chill for a bit before bed and enjoy the view of the cathedral across the street. I'm already in love with Dublin, I may need to be dragged back onto the plane when we leave. >.>

London - Day 7
Posted 14 years agoToday Dave and I wandered the British Museum. Oh! My! God!
I got to see SO many awesome things!
I was actually within touching distance of the freakin' Rosetta Stone! The Rosetta Stone for crap's sake!
The Egyptian exhibit was amazing, including the several mummies on display. I had so much fun, and today alone we took almost 300 pictures.
We're packing up now, as tomorrow is to be a travel day. We're heading to Ireland tomorrow by ferry (first class, ooh la la?) and will be settling into our hotel around midday.
All sorts of fun to be had, so I'm calling it an early night to pack stuff up.
I got to see SO many awesome things!

Plymouth - Day 6
Posted 14 years agoToday was a pretty lax day, though we still did a bunch of wandering.
Went to visit an online friend of mine in her hometown of Plymouth. The Americans in the crowd will know the name, it was where the Mayfair launched for the New World with their ancestors (and some of mine, possibly).
We covered a lot of ground and learned a lot about the area from my friend and her partner. Lots of the local history is WWII based, but there are much older things as well.
Spent about 8 hours on the train today and the other 8 walking around. It's around midnight here now, I'm hitting the hay.

London - Day 5
Posted 14 years agoDay 5 of the London Experience covered a lot of miles, over a sum of 5 hours on a tour bus.
We started with getting up at 4 am for a dawn tour of Stonehenge. SO WORTH IT!! Would totally get up at Hell o'clock again for something that epic! I took 50+ pictures JUST of the stones! I loved the whole experience, walking among the henge and the stones (we got to go up and close, but not to touch, which was pretty awesome) for all kinds of pictures. Downside was that it was frickin' cold in the early morning (and I'm Canadian, so that says something) and I was in shorts (looked at afternoon forecast). I was grumbly in the moring, but when it spiked at midday, I was glad of having the shorts instead of jeans.
After Stonehenge we had a ride to Lacock, a small town that's protected and preserved by the National Trust. Oh man, so many gorgeous little buildings! The tavern we had breakfast at was built in the 1300s! Such a beautiful little place. Point, I've also discovered that waffles, scrambled eggs, and cold smoked salmon are amazing in combination. We had a bit of time to wander and got some lovely pictures of the local architecture.
Back to the bus after a short while, and we drove on to Bath. Bath is the site of the Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths. We passed on the prior (high entrance fees) and wandered through the latter for over an hour. Lots of fun, despite the crop of blisters I've gathered from all the damn walking. Note to self: Next time BREAK IN the new shoes BEFORE the vacation starts.
Anyways, tomorrow we're off to Plymouth to visit a longterm online friend of mine. 3.5 hours by train each way, so I'll be getting some much needed sleep, I figure.
Later guys!

London - Day 4
Posted 14 years agoHey all, another quickie journal on my trip. I'm a bit tired and as it's presently 10 pm here (I need to be up around 4 am tomorrow) I can't be online too long.
Today the husband and I started our day with the Tower of London. Now, it isn't as much a tower as it is a fort. Also, it's a BIG fort. We spent almost 2 hours wandering it, and we didn't even see everything there! One of the things we saw there was the literal freaking crown jewels! I was a bit surprised that the public should be allowed so close, but it was very cool. We also got a close look at about a dozen royal crowns over the course of English history.
The next stop was something a bit more fun, the London Bridge Experience. Think LARP in a historical sense, complete with blood, gore, and pretty awesome stage effects. Add to this that not one, not two, but three of the performer singled out my husband to pick on. Ah, that was funny. This led into a haunted house walk called London Tombs, which was kind of passable, Mme Tussaud's version was much better realized.
We then wandered along the river taxi to The Globe theatre. We had an awesome tour guide, and got to see the recreation (1989 or so) of Shakespeare's Globe. This was very awesome, including the marble pillars on stage (which turned out to be painted wood, hence the awesome factor). Unfortunately nothing shows until late April, so we had to be sated with the tour.
We grabbed some supper and then wandered up and down the Thames in a water taxi until nightfall. I managed to snag an awesome picture of the Tower Bridge at nightfall. Oooh, so gorgeous!
Anyways, off to bed. I have to be up for 4 am for Stonehenge tomorrow. Whee!

Wales - Cardiff (Day 3 overall)
Posted 14 years agoThe day was pretty busy. Can't spend a lot of time updating at the moment, given that I'm friggin' exhausted.
Went to the Cathedral in the town where one of my husband's ancestors was buried. I found it a little unnerving, but it was quite nice to see how moved he was by the experience.
Also went to Cardiff Castle, which is, as the name suggests, a castle. Oh my! Spent a lot of time wandering the battlements, but my legs almost gave out and I sat back in the cafeteria while husband dear was encouraged to snap as many pictures as possible.
For those I hang with, I also picked up some mead from one of the gift shops, you will be subjected. >.>

London - Day 2
Posted 14 years agoDid a bunch of running around in London today, which was pretty cool.
Went to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and enjoyed the Hell out of it! The figures are just amazing, and they let you get right in and prod at the statues, which was neat. I again took a bunch of pictures, a few of which hit Facebook, but since the hotel charges for WiFi, I can't justify uploading everything.
We then wandered on the tube down to the houses of Parliment, and got some wicked pictures of Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Again, a lot of photos, a few of which are currently updating on Facebook.
Next came Sealife Aquarium, which had all kinds of nifty little critters, including crocodiles, sea turtles, larger sharks, and a Hell of a lot of rays. A few of the rays in a smaller tank would breach and skirt along the top of the water, which was a bit unnerving, as they tended to come right toward spectators. I also learned that in a dark place, you can't take pictures of anything fast worth beans. I tried and failed to get the sea turtles, but got a couple sharks and rays on camera.
The London Eye was next, a huge ferris wheel that gives a great view of the city skylines. I enjoyed this one because I got to sit down for half an hour amongst the bustle. I'm not a big walker, so this much running about took a toll on my feet.
Anyways, my photos are done uploading, so I'm off for today. Tomorrow is Cardiff in Wales, should be fun! Tora, I'll look for sheep!

London - Day 1
Posted 14 years agoSo here I am in London, England, after an eight hour flight and three in flight movies.
One thing I will say for Air Canada, they sure have stepped up the in flight entertainment. On my flight, I was able to watch Black Swan, Burlesque, and The Last Airbender (I'd been awake 40 hour st this point, shush on my selections).
I would highly reccomend Black Swan and Burlesque, Airbender was kind of meh for me. I'd seen the anime, at least a chunk of it, so I asn't going in blind. M Night Shaymalan should maybe stop making movies though...
I didn't manage to catch much sleep on the plane due to having an aisle seat and being bumped by everyone who wandered past my seat (a lot, actually) but the flight wasn't too bad. We ended up arriving an hour earlier than forecast, which was pretty awesome.
Took a quick train trip from Heathrow to Paddington station (and yes, many bear related jokes were made). Our hotel was about a stone's throw from there, so we wandered over and got settled in.
I slept about four hours while my husband wandered a bit, and when I woke up, we went for a two hour walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens (the two are connected). In this short time, I took about fifty pictures, though I can't decide whether to upload them to FA, as they're presently uploading to my Facebook account.
Anyways, Day 1 was pretty entertaining and relaxed, tomorrow we're hitting Madame Tussaud's and the Sherlock Holmes museum, among other things. I shall try to do another update once I have the time.

Update - Possible Hiatus
Posted 14 years agoRandom update on the state of things.
I'll be leaving the country for two weeks as of Saturday, April 2nd, to return April 17th. I may have restricted internet access in this time, I may not.
No, this isn't some April Fools thing, I really am legitimately headed out of the country. Vacations are required now and then.
Those who are looking to chat with me, I'll be checking my hotmail as able, and may check my FA messages if I can find the time.
I'll try to post updates on my Facebook as well (for the whole one of you who has me added =P) and I may upload some of the better pictures in my spare time.
Given scheduling (and packing my laptop soon), I may not be able to check in again before I head out. I just wanted to warn those of my friends who might be concerned at sudden radio silence.
See you guys more consistently in two weeks,
-Callie
