If you own a fursona you're deeply attached to, with a fair amount of art involved in it? Then I'm sure you know what I mean when I say that art theft is a constant, ever-present, mind shattering annoyance that makes you feel powerless and downright helpless to them effectively butchering what makes your character special by uninvitedly applying their own bullshit behavioral patterns, fetishes, and piss-poor grammar to the name and subsequent reputation of your fuzzy persona. It is infuriating and feels like an extremely personal affront.

So what can you do to truly discourage this behavior? Obviously, it won't change from one moment to the next, but in the long run, it'll become evident that your character's not one you wanna fuck with(at least not in the good way :3c)

I'm sure many of you have thought of copyrighting your character? And to be frank, they honestly already are upon being created. But if you want an ironclad, court room sound case that would scare the pants off of any self-righteous art thief? Then what you wanna do is register your character with the U.S Copyright office.

Here's what you wanna do:

-Write a story, longer and more detailed, the better, pitting your character as the/one of the protagonists involved. Obviously make sure their name's are identical from story to your reference images and misc. art work.
-Register the story with the Copyright office, and attach your reference sheet to it(preferably SFW, so if you don't have one, either make one/pay for one to submit), and label it as <insert character from story's name here> 's likeness from the story provided. It should cost around $35 to do so, which is not bad at all!

(By the way, this can all be done electronically from their website! https://www.copyright.gov/

And that's about it! Once you get the confirmation from them, your character is officially registered. If someone tries to steal your character, or creates an OBVIOUS likeness of your character, you can actually sue them in the court of law, which they will most certainly lose!

There you have it! After enough time passes and enough people discover exactly what the consequences could be of stealing this character, they will back off, and make it evident with others as well. You can obviously never truly eliminate art thieves, they're like rats after all(sorry if you have a rat fursona. Didn't mean it that way :( ), but you at least have the peace of mind knowing that you will always have the upper hand, should a real need for proving who your character belongs to, ever arise.

Hello everyone. I know I don't write journals often, but it's time we spoke about one of the cancers that continue to plague the fandom.

I'm talking about the unscrupulous, downright criminal website known as u18chan.

The website sports this pathetic, hilariously untrue disclaimer at the bottom of its website:

Please be aware that this kind of fetish artwork is NOT copyrightable in the hosting country and there for its copyright may not be upheld.

So...since the website is based in the UK? They are ABSOLUTELY obligated to adhere to the DMCA. You can't just go 'hurhur we don't support this idea so we just won't adhere to it!'.

Secondly, Fetish artwork is STILL artwork, and is equally as copyrightable as any other artwork is. Be it fetish artwork or not, artists still put in equally as many hours, equally as much effort, and earn money just the same, on fetish artwork. The term 'fetish artwork' is fictional in and off itself and does not hold any importance whatsoever in the world of copyright. You can copyright artwork that's full of peen and vagoo just as easily and just as legally as artwork without it. This is a blatant attempt to avoid getting in trouble and is a complete falsehood in hopes people won't question it. This extends to the character(s), or the likeness thereof, present in the artwork. They, too, are copyrighted and are the character owners' intellectual property, and thus have legal control over where and when and how they're portrayed on the internet. u18chan thinking they have the legal capability to go 'EXCEPT US!' is laughable and pathetic, wrong, and a blatant lie to misdirect blame(which is inherently on them) away from them.

Third and finally, this is partially true; u18chan is not responsible for the things their users post. This is true. HOWEVER, they 'are' responsible for rectifying it when a poster does or posts something reprehensible, such as copyrighted artwork against the owner(s)' will, by removing the content in question, ESPECIALLY if requested by the confirmed content owner if that person complains, and by penalizing the individual responsible for posting the content. By U18chan's logic, they can make a website and claim zero responsibility for the consequences that arise from it. It'd be like if someone made a website purely meant to provide anyone who visits, detailed instructions on how to make explosives, only to claim zero responsibility when someone confirms to have used their website to learn how to make a bomb that killed people. It's complete fiction and made up on the spot. This is legal fairy tales and would absolutely not hold any sway whatsoever in a court room. The judge would laugh them out of the court room.


u18chan shamelessly serves as a hotbed for art thieves, edit-cowards, and other scum of the fandom who either can't or won't or don't care enough to respect the wishes of content creators and character owners which provide the very content they so fervently defend their right to abuse as they see fit. I've seen one thread after another dedicated to 'edits', which is pretty much taking pre-existing artwork and asking some shameless person with the skillset required, to change the image in question to their liking. What I personally call 'Content Devaluing'. They also have countless threads dedicated to shamefully release patreon content from artists whose livelihoods depend on this content. They are effectively cutting into these artists' income, and LITERALLY making them bleed income, because they're providing the content normally behind a paywall meant to help an artist gain an income, for free on u18chan. All one has to do is find the respective artist's "PATREON LEAK" thread, and boom, every pic they've ever provided on their Patreon is free to view, in high definition, to anyone who finds it. It's disgusting.

It doesn't stop here, it goes into unsolicited screenshots of peoples' streams, witch hunts against furries they 'don't like' (who knows, this journal might land me there, but I won't be silenced by their pathetic witch hunt tactics), providing a place to safely post pedophilia nicknamed 'cub porn', and all manners of other shameful degenerate behavior.

So I implore you, PLEASE don't use u18chan. I beg you to not give this disgusting website the traffic it relies on in order to justify its blatant exploitation of content creators/content sources for their own gains. Please boycott this direct violation of our rights to intellectual property which they'd rather take away from us so they can feel in control. Please show them that we won't allow them to treat us like this. Stop going there, and stop your friends from going there. Let them know what kind of toxic, poisonous website that place is, and let everyone know that the furry fandom will, for one, not permit such blatant inconsideration to the very heart and soul of what makes the furry fandom such a wonderful place to a be a part of.

But due to being in-between jobs right now, I'm going to offer my abilities as a writer to those willing to help me get some funds.

I dunno about you guys, but I'm sick and tired of artists who take your money, accept your commission, and then just go dark on you; total communication blackout.

When going into a business transaction, it's a good idea to make the experience a pleasant one. Its not pleasant to feel insignificant and kind of worthless when an artist can't even bother to take 40 seconds or less to write you a quick note detailing where they're at, or even just to let you know they didn't forget about you.

"So you want an artist to write ALL of their commissioners? That's unrealistic!"

Only cause they make it unrealistic. If they take so much work that they feel so overwhelmed they can't even communicate politely with a paying customer without getting angry at them for asking about a commission in progress, they need to take on less commissions and finish them in smaller batches.
I have had countless artists downright threaten to blacklist me and cancel my commission if I dare note them about updates. Its actually insane how entitled these artists are.

So im gonna add a disclaimer when i commission from now on; every full week I see or hear nothing regarding my commission, I'll write the artist a note myself. If I get no response after 2 weeks, I will cancel the commission myself and take a full refund regardless of how far along they claim to be on the commission. They should've thought about sharing this with me in a note. If this is a problem for the artist, I will not pay them money, and thus not commission them, cause if they can't be assed to treat me as a valued customer I can't be assed to help support their livelihood.

They are calling it 'a total loss' and will most likely mean the entire cathedral will be destroyed. A vast, historical monument of unbelievable beauty and cultural importance to France and indeed, Europe, the world as a whole, is lost forever; a 900 year old project, sporting miraculously complex architectural skill for it's time, is gone.

So he opted for assisted suicide, to make the end of his life be on his terms, of his own free will. You come tell me that isn't a whole new league of badassery!

But was he simply a dude who reached his 50s, got ALS, wrote some touchy-feely tweets and then passed away? No ladies and gentlemen, he was not!

So I'm writing an important journal here. Possibly the most important journal to me in a long while. And it all boils down to 1 singular question.

For 6 years now, Vaxi has existed as you see him/her, but in truth there is an aspect to his/her lore which I have had question after question regarding: "Is Vaxi 1 person or twins?" And in all honesty, I have never really known my heartfelt answer yet. Both have merits, upsides and downsides. I've juggled with it for years and in the mean time, simply said they were the same person cause it was the 'easier' solution. If you notice my gallery, you'll see only my ref sheet has 'gender switch' suggested, and that being only in text form. This was intentional, as I still didn't know for sure which direction I wanted to take.

Well, its time this question was answered, but I can't do it alone. I've tried and failed for years, so I need opinions from you guys:

So...not super long ago, the FA staff gave us gallery folders...a nice addition to the website, to be sure.
But you know what I 'REALLY' feel its time for? A note system overhaul.

I am so incredibly sick, of having artists come to me, and rightfully have an issue...like..maybe I commissioned them a while ago and they forgot/lost what the idea I wanted was and asks if I could give it again? That's reasonable...happens all the time, this is not something to get salty about...

You know what is though? When I then spend the next 10+ minutes searching through one page of notes after another, having to utilize ctrl+F with the artists name typed into the box to have any sliver of hope of finding them in the constant stream of notes scrolling on my screen. I might finally find it 20-30 pages down, only to realize I don't know WHICH of the notes might contain the info I require....

Usually, this has caused me to simply give up, and give the artist as much as I might remember, if anything, OR, if I can't remember any of it, give them a new idea, to my great dismay, cause I don't give artists ideas unless its something I REALLY want. :\

Seriously, FA would go from a 7/10 to a 9/10 if it had a utility-driven, search-bar including, folder-creation-supporting ACTUAL 'email' style system that would make the lives of both commissioners, social butterflies, and artists trying to run a business, so much easier and enjoyable.

And yet they decide that what we need more direly....are 'GALLERY' folders, so we can separate the gay shit from the straight shit and the peens from the vajayjays. Are you fucking kidding me?

I wish there was a way to make it fundamentally clear to FA that this is, without even an ounce of doubt from me, something literally EVERY SINGLE FULL-TIME DEDICATED USER OF FA WOULD LOVE TO SEE. Prove me wrong. I'll eat my words if anyone here can legitimately claim that this sounds like a bad idea to them and mean it with a straight face. It's not gonna happen, so why the hell has it been THIS long and 'other' updates have happened, but not the 'ONE' update that universally the entire website wants to see? Get on it, FA... :\

A popular artist decides that FA and the commissions they take here are no longer worth their time or effort, so they nuke their entire profile of all content, bids everyone a good fucking day and leaves with plans of never returning.
......Then while they're in Philly, they just HAVE to keep watching that Blind Bitch show on Netflix, but they can't get the wi-fi in the hotel to work so they just watch it bareback on 4G, effectively running a decently big phone bill.
......THEN they suddenly realize they made a huge mistake, and decide to try and rewind time and tries to come back to FA, and in 1 journal, complains about people asking too many questions, so they won't answer any questions, BUT they kinda need someone to take a thigh-up commission to help pay for their phone bill...NO QUESTIONS THO!!!

......Let me get this straight.....You burn the bridge quite rudely, stating you don't care for the art you do for people here...come back a short time after, complaining about a phone bill and asking people to hand you nearly $100 for art you literally just said you don't care about.........

It must be nice being surrounded by white knights who thoughtless shower you with affection and money when quite frankly every thoughtful person, yourself included, knows you don't deserve any of it with your behavior.

I dunno about you guys, but repeatedly, every day, for many many months now, my Furaffinity will randomly have a seizure or something and start taking 2-3 minutes just to load a page. It stops as suddenly as it begins and will return to perfectly normal loading times afterwards, but sometimes, more often than I'm comfortable with, Furaffinity's load time will shit itself.

This didn't happen before IMVU took over, and while mostly absent, the fact it's there at all is just annoying. Why not hook up another potato to support your other 2 potatoes, IMVU? Surely you have the means to do that for us since you felt the need to buy our platform? Now fucking take care of it.
