Posted 11 years agoMy friends, I am determined to attend FC2015, but I am hurting for housing for the weekend. Anyone have room in their hotels? Anyone looking for housing still? Anyone interested in some artwork?
I shower, I don't smell, I don't bring home strangers for sex, I don't smoke or do drugs, I don't steal. I'm a little cluttered with my costume stuff, but I can keep it contained! I can share a bed or sleep on the floor; I have an air mattress if I need it. I'm in the art show, I have my ticket, and I'm working on some involved costume pieces specifically for this year's con and I would be heartbroken to not make it. I'd be about equally heartbroken to have to pay full price on a room that I share with no one at all. Thursday night through Sunday night, any of the offered hotels that still have rooms in them, I'm flexible.

Posted 11 years agoAnd I'm not the sort of dick to complain to the folks in charge who probably aren't at fault anyway. Still, I am frustrated that despite getting my FC Dealer application in five minutes after they posted it (which seemed to be 15 minutes after they SAID it would be posted), I still was not accepted as a dealer. I can't go to the con if I'm not making money...I was so excited for this. Crossing my fingers for the waitlist, if that is at all a possible option.

On the hunt for a 2013 Burning Man ticket!
Posted 12 years agoSo, Burning Man 2013 is fast approaching and I am on the hunt for a ticket! I already have mine, but I want to take my buddy to the playa this year for the first time. She's having a rough go of things lately, with a mother falling to dementia and some fairly invasive surgery needs, and that's just shitty. A trip to the desert and a bit of catharsis are what she needs.
If you find yourself with an extra ticket, or know someone who is selling, please do let me know! We're still crossing our fingers for the STEP to come through, and I have some people in Sacramento keeping an ear out too, but I don't want to make her wait until the week before to buy a (possibly faked!) ticket from Craigslist or something. That'd be no bueno. Even if you're not part of the burner community, if you know other people who are attending, please let them know there's a fur in need who could really use a signal boost!

Roll Call! Who's going to Burning Man?

My friend and I are gonna go be suave on the playa, gettin' our burn on. I've been working more on my sculpture art than my drawing art because of it for a while now.... I'm building a time machine on my bike. There's still loads to do, so we'll see if drawing stays a priority as the Burn draws closer.
I'm very excited this year to make myself get out and meet new folks! Last time I went it was very cathartic for me, though I didn't have the guts to walk into half of the camps I wanted to invade. This year, I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the people of the playa. What camps are you staying in? Are you going solo? Any cool projects you're working on?

Posted 13 years agoHaha. Okay, this is me keeping up with things. Since arriving home from FC I have had one day off--immediately following the drive home, of course, so that was spent sleeping in and wading through suitcases. I have had long days with awful hours all week that left me with no time or energy to do anything but sleep. I also seem to be getting sick, because I just can't think for myself, and since everyone else in the house is getting sick, why shouldn't I play too?
In any case, I actually have a day off tomorrow, Tuesday the..whatever it is...so I will use it as a day to work on/finish/ship out commissions, providing I am not fever ridden and unable to swallow. (Hehe, swallow.) To this end, I will be texting those of you whose numbers I have and commissions I have finished, in order to get your mailing address. Everything ordered at FC has begun production; I just haven't had much time to work on anything SINCE beginning it. Life happens, and when you work two jobs on top of your art, it happens LONG AND HARD. Unf.

The FC '13 Decompression Report!

First off, I want to thank everyone who donated to my Changeling Fund for my chest surgery. I made about 1000% of what I expected to get in donations--no joke, one thousand fucking percent--and when I counted it up I actually had to get hugs from people because I started crying. I feel so blessed to have been visited from so many generous people. Seriously.
Second, thank you to those of you who commissioned me! I am super excited to have gotten to share my art with people like that. You guys are great and I am excited to finish my homework.
Story time!
The ride down was great. Smooth sailing, quick travel, good gas mileage. All things you want out of a road trip. San Jose is really warm to people from Humboldt county though--we had to turn down the AC the second we walked into our room. 60 degrees? Does the Marriott realize that some people go months without seeing 60 degree weather, even inside a house? Crazy. Table set-up was good too. I love the location I had--all of my friends were crunched in the same corner, so we had a good little party zone with plenty of room for minions.
What did I learn: Bring a hand truck and pack everything in stackable boxes or bags you can wear over your shoulders. Plan out table set-up before getting to con. Bring more vertical displays. Make your signs ahead of time.
I had a blast running around in costume at this con too. Got to debut my blue dragon mask and suit, and felt really fancy. My Weeping Angel did exactly what it was supposed to do--I made furries run for the proverbial hills. We had the BEST photoshoot with a whole passel of Doctors--I want all the pictures you have to share of those, if any of you have them. Downside to costuming, I broke the shit out of my dragon face as soon as I got home though--carrying it up to the porch, my mask fell and broke a tooth, chipped a horn, and shattered the jaw. Very disappointing. I also left my phone in a pair of pants that got stepped on, so that shattered too. Sadness for broken things.
Oh MAN, i loved getting to talk to people. I'm not much of a social butterfly--I'm more like a social Venus flytrap. If I talked to you, thanks. That was loads of fun. I am excited to do it again next year. I am utterly delighted to have met my costuming hero, the guy behind Scabrous Vermicelli who had the awesome robot-faced demon thing. Seriously you guys, that dragon was the coolest thing my 19-year old self saw all year. Getting to tell Foofers how cool I think he is gave me the biggest fanboy high ever. Also, I totally skipped that elevator because I was hoping you would be on the next one, and you were, and I like to think that wasn't stalking because I had to go up 22 flights anyway and the first elevator WAS pretty full, so.... You're cool. Sorry I'm a nerd about it. XD
What I learned: When you're talking excitedly to people, get their name and contact information, especially if they're buying art. That shit is invaluable for things like, you know, getting their art back to them. Pretty much all of the artists that intimidate you are NICE. As in, seriously, shockingly nice. I don't know why I let the quality of someone's art become inversely proportionate to their niceness in my mind. You guys are all so NICE.
Food! Hm, this is badly organized for a report.... We went to Tandoori oven, which was good, and a small deli/restaurant Vietnamese place which was cheap and excellent and close, and an Ethiopian place which was AMAZING and had delicious kitfo. I think it was kitfo. Raw meat can call itself whatever it wants, as long as it goes in my mouth.
What I learned:
Taen isn't allowed to eat kitfo anymore, not if she doesn't already have the enzymes to digest raw meat floating around in her belly. Also, goat curry is awesome and you should just buy 3 gallons of water to bring next time instead of trusting San Jose water to taste good. Bring a long straw to drink water through masks when you can't get to the Headless Lounge--like when dealing.
I am also very delighted to get the feedback on my art that I did. I under-priced a lot of my stuff this year to see what would sell and how much I could pile on myself and reasonably expect to finish. I loved doing the quick button badges, and will probably keep the price on them down at $5. Bigger badges and small paintings might go up a bit, because they do take longer than I anticipated.
What I learned: Bring your ring-sizers for octopus ring commissions. Pre-cut button blanks ahead of time. Don't expect to finish any watercolors at the con. Keep your phone charger on you to power the phone for reference pics. Organize a file of prints, and while you're at it, make cards of the totem paintings and put them in individual sleeves. The button board worked great, but have smaller baskets to put the random buttons in, so people feel open to fondle them.
Things that blew my mind this weekend:
~The awesome art card I got with a TENTACLE PIGEON on it from Creoste. You are so cool.
~Sourdough crepes
~How comfy it was sleeping on pillows on the floor--I mean, wow, Marriott. I am impressed.
~My boss calling me at 9AM on Monday asking why I wasn't at work
~Hanging out with Occo and Minty. Hi table buddies!
~How hot it gets being a dragon in a suit
~SO MUCH DOCTOR WHO COSPLAY
Things that I want to practice/have/do for next year:

~Smuttier smut
~Scribblier sketches
~Gryphons, wolfwings, catwings, feathery things
~Cartoonier expressions; troll meme faces?

I believe I will generally be open to socializing most times. Maybe not at meal times; I would like to hang out with my friends for those. Other times, though, I would like to socialize. I am looking to push myself out of my shell for this event.

I learned how to start getting myself out of my shell at Burning Man. This FC, I want to meet people, I want to practice running a dealer's table, I want to learn a bit more about the business side of art. I want to make some money, and I want to meet people, and I want to go to room parties which has previously scared the shit out of me, and I want to go dancing and I kind of want to practice flirting. >> But mostly, I want to have lots of fun and help other people have lots of fun too!

I might be! I will definitely be in costume, even if it's not a fursuit.

I have a dragon suit I would like to debut. I just made my friend paint it for me today while I posed with my butt out. Aaawkward. <3

I love good handshakes. It's a dying art form. But I also enjoy hugs (after asking!) and if you're not creepy-lurker about it, I pretty much adore head rubs. XD

Oh yes. There are few art things I will not do for money, and I will also have a tip box at my table to help me (even a leetle, leetle bit!) raise funds for my multi-thousand dollar chest surgery. <3

I like snuggles, but I have to feel safe. Snuggling is much more intimate than groping my butt, you see, although you have to ask before you do that too. ^-^

I believe I will generally be open to socializing most times. Maybe not at meal times; I would like to hang out with my friends for those. Other times, though, I would like to socialize. I am looking to push myself out of my shell for this event.

Posted 13 years agoI want to wear suits and ties and casual dress jackets all the time. If I'm not in jeans and a t-shirt, I pretty much want to wear suits. I think it's not fair that I have to wear tight, uncomfortable shirts to flatten my chest so I can fit into a suit properly. For Christmas this year, I want help raising funds for chest reconstruction. Next Christmas...suits. ALL THE SUITS.

Posted 13 years agoI would like to commission some art and then pay for it with art--hence, the request for an art trade. I want to see an FtM dragon--specifically, one of mine. It can have pretty much any theme, excepting scat and shota and gore because I don't ship those on myself. It can be raunchy or cuddly, solitary or orgiastic. Mostly I just want to see someone else's art drawing my character, and more FtM art.
I, in return, will pretty much do any kind of art. This is essentially a blank check to get yourself something nice. Spread the word! SOMEONE you know will probably want to do an art trade.

I am making custom buttons as little badges for you to wear. They are SHINY, 1.75 inches across, have a pin-back for all of your clothes-stabbing needs, and they are also totes awesome, did I mention that?
You can get a face or bust of your character on there with your name or with a speech bubble saying...well, whatever you want to say! Please keep size in mind. Your button will look best if you keep it between 1-6 characters or so. Names, of course, don't have a character limit, but let's use our good judgement! Bigger names mean smaller faces. Or, get a saying done! I can do quotes or fan art of your favorite shows, ponies, Doctors, 50s sci-fi movies, you name it!
The first 10 people to PM me will get a button badge for only $1! Yes, that is entirely the price you pay! One dollar. One. Uno. One buck. Oooonnnneeee dollar. Posted 13 years agoIf I make enough money at FC this coming year, I am stopping in SF on the way back home to go to Mr. S leather to buy myself a harness. By then I will be 9 months on T, and I think it's time I got my harness, darn it. Come with me. Everyone on FA, let's all go buy leather gear after FC. Won't it be great? Or lets, at the very least, DRAW leather gear. That's fun too.
ALSO, I would like to hear your favorite button quotes. Tell me what it is, tell me your favorite pictures to put on buttons, etc. I have a button machine and 300 buttons to make, so gimme your input and you'll find it on a button.

Posted 13 years agoI have other things I could spend money on, it's true. New car...insurance...uh, food. But what I really feel would make my life complete is a set of veneers for my Homestuck cosplay. XD I am working on horns for Tavros, Sollux, and Karkat, but Tavros is the one I'll probably wear a lot more. I can identify with his awkwardness a lot better, which is great because I always want to be in character, but I'm not so good at it with bold characters....
But to these ends, I am opening up $20 painting/badge commissions. (I only need three or four to get my teefs!) If you feel that my watercolors or markers or colored pencils are a style you would enjoy (haphazard watercolor, dubious backgrounds, etc.), please send me a note! I'm a little burnt out on my own ideas anyway at the moment, so I would like to crank out some new stuff.
Porn is okay, I will try my hand at vore but no promises, fluffy is wonderful and chibis are excellent, dopey is great, gore is not my strong point, and I suck at machines. XD No underage or poop. I like drawing animals and humans and fantasy humanoids, and right now I'm on a Homestuck kick, so bonus for those! Actually, if you commission Homestuck art, $15 only! Talk to me; I'm way open.
