A while ago I saw a video but I can't remember if it was on youtube, facebook, etc.. but it was one short single shot but put in slow motion of a bunch of fursuiters on a small grassy ridge/hill(the shot was filmed out of a car window) and all of them did something right on time and overall it looks cool when slowed down! Hello everyone! I've tried researching this multiple times and asked people around me but I'm so unsure of how to do handle full-time artwork since I see or hear different results everytime and overall I'm just not sure about it.

So to put it simply:
I want to build fursuits and take art commissions full-time. No more working at walmart!
I want to aim to earn(profit) AT LEAST $1200 a year(so 1k a month) for living expenses, phone, pet stuff, car, etc.. and a bit extra for liesure spending! Of course I will obtain more since I have to charge material costs which is hard to factor in how much that'll be since the cost of a suit can vary greatly(like some furs are 25/yd orthers can reach 60+!).

I don't know if all money earned will matter or if it's just the profit that does.

I'm looking for experienced artists who live off their art, what would I need to do? I just need confirmation on details so I know exactly what to do cos I don't want to get in trouble! I have no issue filing taxes and stuff, I just want to be sure I do it right!

A co-working told me all I'd have to do is keep track of expenses and earnings and then file it all and save a bit up on the side for paying taxes but I'm not sure if I'd have to do more or something entirely different. I'm just overall very confused by this! But I want to figure it out!

If anyone has any information or input on what I'd have to do or your own experience please feel free to comment or note me! X3 If you yourself work in a position that deals with taxes and you actually can guide me on what to do I'd really appreciate that!! <3

I've tried explaining to the person the difference but they beleive it's okay because:
-they drew it themselves
-it's their OC and not Flank
-it's a different species of hynea(Flank is striped, theirs is spotted)
-it's not 100% exactly the same(notch in ear, hair isn't a mohawk, dot on face)

But I'm here to tell you guys these sorta points are NOT an excuse for copying. Copying doesn't turn into referencing just cos the species is different or cos you drew it by hand. Copying is still copying. Referencing won't look like what you referenced when done. The only reason to copy is as it states in the chart I linked first, to learn how to draw something you're struggling with but it's not something you post without permission from the original artist. This user didn't post credit to AF on the copied post. Some people will do this to sorta "get ahead" by copying an already-popular style in an attempt to be sneaky and gain interest cos their style is appealing from the start. If no credit is posted viewers don't know the style and original skill isn't actually from the artist they're following. Not ALL people who copy do this for that reason but it is why it happens sometimes. I don't think this user did it for that reason and they did post credit on a new post after I commented on the copied one, they just wanted their hyena OC in AF's style but when explained to the difference between copying and referencing that's when they denied they copied and made their excuses. I linked them that visual explanation I made and that'll be that, if they still think their copying is referencing then it may bite them in the butt later if they do it again and again but I'll be leaving them alone. Please don't attempt to find the user, they now know the info on copying vs referencing, it's up to them now if they wish to follow it.

EDIT: Something else important I think people need to know is that copyright laws don't have much to do with why copying art is bad. Yeah you're not really violating any big copyright laws by copying a cartoon animal someone else drew, but keep in mind online you're talking to and admiring the work of INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEINGS. Not huge companies who will never ever see or know you or your work. So if you copy Disney they're not going to notice or care cos it's not going to affect them much. You'll only really get into real trouble if you attempt to mass-produce and sell stuff with a company's copyrighted content. But if you copy someone online it can hurt them. It's their years of self-taught development and skills you're taking and using as a tool to cheat ahead and that's not fair. So 'not violating any copyright laws' isn't another excuse for copying, cos here online in art communities it's about being respectful and keeping the community nice and pretty. It's about being original and helping others with that, too! People around you will love to see you develop and work hard on your own and some may even try to help you out. But if you copy and use bad excuses you'll only hurt other artists and even yourself down the road! And imagine a community of artists who only ever copied and copied just cos they never violated any laws doing it. Boring, right? XD

Also! Assuming copying is flattering to an artist is a baaaad thing! Some people believe that!! Crazy I know! But being copied is offensive, and can be hurtful or enraging for some. Especially if you never asked or if you did, you were told no, and then did it anyway. And even worse is if you attempt to make profit off copied work! It's never an honor to be copied, it's like being used and it can make an artist feel like they spent a long time working hard to develop and grow and learn just for people to use their work like a tool to cheat ahead. That is never a way to show an artist you love their work and it certainly won't allow you to properly grow or learn as an artist! :c

Overall what I think a lot of young and new artists need to know if they want to imrpove or draw like someone they like is to answer this question: Who do you think your favorite or all the popular artists copied and traced from to get where they are? Clearly the answer is no one, their styles are their own and their skills developed overtime from learning and working hard ON THEIR OWN and you can do that, too! Did they copy or reference a lot early on? Probably, some will do that especially with anime, Disney, or other popular cartoons or shows. Same with real animal photos. But they don't JUST develop from that all their life. They are popular and awesome for their styles cos they got there themselves and it shows in their works and skills. If you copy to take a shortcut then it's not true skill or style you're developing, it's just dishonesty and deception you're giving to those who may like your copied work without knowing it's copied. Work hard and take time to develop into an artist others can enjoy and don't try to be the artsits you enjoy!

For example when I first started drawing online I was on Balto Source. Everyone was drawing Balto or wolves. I drew a bit of Naruto, dinosaurs, Wolf's Rain and Ginga Densetsu Weed characters. But I didn't draw that stuff forever and I always drew it however best I could in my own way. A few years back when I started getting more into suitmakers I took a lot of inspiration from DHC and PhoenixWolf's works mainly and that influenced my style but I did realize I was drawing like their stuff a bit and I made sure to still try and develop in my own way from it and not continue to just look like their works. What helped me get better is just continuously drawing. All the time. over and over. Draw something in your own way over and over, everyday. And you just see, it'll be way improved in a month! It's that simple c: Taking some inspiration or basic concepts to help improve in there is okay. Like when I practiced humans more I took a lot of the inspiration and simplistic ideas behind Danny Phantom and Gravity Falls to help me improve the positioning and shapes of humans. Then later introduced some stuff from Naruto in there and overall humans became a little easier for me to understand how to draw but I still kept within my own sorta methods and styles.

Sadly though so many people don't beleive in themselves or are so impatient to get better they just choose to copy or steal instead :c Don't do that!

I'm sorry for the massive amount of text, sorta got carried away but also this is a pretty common issue and sometimes posting stuff like this might help someone so what the heck lol I'll post this, if you don't wanna read that's okay! If you have any other pointers or advice feel free to comment!^^

Also would anyone be inetersted if I made ANY sort of art-related guide or tutorial? Designes, drawing with shapes, how to take a real photo and learn to draw from it? etc..? Cos I've always thought about it but dunno if anyone would even like to see something like it or find it helpful!

HOW? I have hundreds of OCs, how can you just have a few or even one? I don't get it! I've developed little stories in my heads and all my OCs have different worlds so that's why I have so many but does no one else have hundreds of OCs? lol I see ppl all the time freak out cos they got "SO MANY" Ocs when really it's just like.. 10 or 20.

Just a random journal, not super serious here I know some people just don't have use for so many OCs I just find it weird cos I am used to having so many OCs and I see people freak out over just a few and it's so funny XD

I can't do it anymore. Summer is the worst time of the year and I should've known to expect what happened last summer. I cannot sleep right and my sleep schedule keeps getting pushed over into the day. I just woke up a bit ago and it's almost noon whereas I used to ake up at 4am just so you can get an idea of how pushed over my sleep schedule is. Reason is cos my dad and bro now play games/play TV together super late at night and it keeps me up. It's like a trigger thing when I hear that noise I immeditaly go crazy and turn into a sobbing mess. I was just nonstop crying last night and I think the only reason I fell asleep was cos I passed out from so much of it x.x Then this morning I woke up and saw the time and now I can't stop crying cos I can't fucking win. So I'm done, I'm tired of trying really hard to sleep better or do stuff and never win. I give up!! It's not worth it. What sucks is even my animals' health andschedules are getting fucked up cos of this. My gecko was supposed to be fed today but since it's in the middle of the day it wouldn't be right to pull him out and feed him(they're noctournal) so I have to wait til later tonight :c

And btw my dad is fully aware of my schedule NEEDING to be totally different than everyone elses' since I work at 4am.. first thing he told me when walmart changed my positions' schedule from starting at 7am to 4am was "no one here is gonna change their schedule for you" or at least something along those lines. Once I told him in order to get 8hrs of sleep before work I'd need to be asleep BY 7pm and he completely ignored my point by saying I don't sleep earlier anyway. I actually DID when I could, I would sleep as early as 3am if I could!! But due to summer and him working out in the evenings(meaning loud music) and gaming late at night I am kept up all the time and he just tells me I'm too 'sensitive' or 'picky'... NO I'M NOT! If I can't sleep to obnoxious noise levels that's cos I'm a fucking human being. He thinks I can just flip switches in my brain to make me into what he expect of me or something ;w;

Because of this waking up later and general lack of sleep then sleeping too much on my days off when I sleep in, I am just always tired/crappy feeling. I feel sick all the time and emotionally it weighs me down, too. I don't have a lot of things I enjoy anymore nowadays as depression has a habit of taking them and turning them 'numb' or just tears them to peices so I can never really enjoy them again. Music, certain movies, games, even my own pets I become super uninterested in overtime slowly and despite knowing it's happening there isn't anything I can do to reverse it. I used to enjoy so many things now I struggle to force myself to keep retrying them but they're gone for good now. My point in mentioning this is I have no outlets. Nothing. I've got nothing I can do each day to help me cope with all the stress and depression this place shoots at me. Lately all I have been doing to occupy my mind is playing ARK but as of yesterday I started to get that numbing/uninterested feeling towards it and now I am scared it, too, is gonna just become one of those things I USED to enjoy and it won't be able to help me anymore.

Yeah I dunno what to do. Until I move out I'm stuck with all this. And I am gonna be even more tired/sick cos I now have to do what I did last summer which was sleep at my comp desk w/ youtube playing all night and all the lights on so I never fully fell asleep cos being late for work is not worth trying to get a few hours of real sleep anymore. I was 4hrs late the other day.. And I was late many days before that. The Walmart policy gives you .5 pts per tardy and a total of 9 full points means you're fired. I think I have 3 or 3.5 by now.. Today is proof to me I NEED to that though cos now my body wants to start sleeping in til noon and being 8hrs late for work.. just no x.x Can't wake up to alarms anymroe either :c

AHHH I hate living here. It's just always getting worse and I already suspect I am too far gone, mentally, to ever feel okay or happy again. Sure I could move out and stuff won't fuck me up worse but I've thought too deeply over the years and I see things in a way that just make me hate life forever.. ugh

I've decided to be more flexible on the payment plan since some people may not be able to pay the full amount withing a month's time! So the new payment plan is $400 up front and the remaining $800 within three months after first payment is made. I'll let you know the exact day to have the final payment in by so you know for sure!

If someone REALLY does want the suit and you really like it but even three months isn't enoug htime but you're 100% serious about buying her and you KNOW you won't back out(which is my main concern) then I may be able to go up to 5 months but please contact me privately to discuss this with me, it'd be a case by case thing X3

I hate it but have no real control over it, but I basically go through phases and it irritates me so much. Cos they come and go as they please and no matter what I do each day, I can't control which direction the day goes. For example right now, and as of the last month, I've just been in this unproductive and no-motivation kind of mood. Everyday from the moment I wake up to the time I go to bed. I have to FORCE myself to work on something but I get burnt out on it just thinking about working on it. Suitwork and art takes forever to get done when I get like this but since I have no way of knowing ahead of time when this kind of phase will happen I can't plan ahead for it.

But then there are other phases like sometimes for awhile I'll feel super productive and get a lot more done and I'll be mroe organized and just feel okay everyday. Then other times I get into this phase of just being SUPER depressed 24/7. These different phases come and go as they please and I don't do anything different between them. I do all the same stuff at home or at work, nothing major happens that causes a certain kind of phase. They just shift around and it's getting me SO stressed out cos even when I'm in the 'good phase' I am constantly worrying about waking up and finding myself in oen of the bad phases. It's been like this for years now and I never thought much of it but now that I think about it it's really WEIRD?? I dunno why this happens but it does and it's really killing me inside cos I got 7 fullsuits planned on my queue not to mention two heads and I wnat to make a personal costume but when I'm in one of my bad phases nothing can get done and it feels like the pressure of all these projects just smashes me into the ground. I hate it and don't know any way around it. I just have NO inspiration or motivation to work harder on everything atm I just have to sit here and wait and wait and hope that tomorrow I wake up and a good phase starts up. And these phases can last weeks or months. It's rediculous and confusing ;w;

There probably isn't any advice or information that can help me with this bizzare issue or kill the two bad phases I commonly get but if anyone has any advice or info anyway feel free to let me know!

There are a few big things I want to try and do finally that I've been putting off or forgetting about and one is to finally get a new phone! The one I have now is.. I don't even know how old by now. Maybe 5-6 years old XD It's a basic phone but now I really want to get a new one, one that I can access and use Instagram with especially cos I hate not being able to post there as often as I'd like. I have to have my friend post for me and email him any pics so he can post them from his phone XD I can only view posts and comment but I can't remove posts, edit my settings, or post anything and it's annoying!

Anyway, since I haven't paid any attention to new phones in so long I don't even know what might be best. I know nothing about smart phones XD Anyone have any suggestions on some or at least ones to avoid? I hear good and bad things about different brands all the time so I just don't want to finally get a new phone and find myself stuck with tons of issues.

So later at nights when I am too mentally tired to put the right type of focus into suitwork or commissions I practice my skills at humans cos it's something I've been trying hard to improve on for years. So I figured, why not offer freebies? ^^

Anyone have any knowledge or suggestions on gaming laptops? I'd like to be able to play some games every so often but my laptop really sucks at handling games. I don't play a TON of games like youtubers or anything, maybe just a small handful at a time.

I don't even care for this laptop to use internet, just when necessary for steam. Any suggestions or tips? I don't have the space right now to build a desktop else I would look into that so I need to stick with something much smaller and portable!

I just discovered there is a FedEx in town and was wondering if anyone knows if they're pretty okay at handling shipments? I don't trust USPS anymore after not only receiving beat up packages but a suit I shipped out had a beat up box as well. I've been driving out of town to a UPS place but if I can save myself on the trip and ship through FedEx that'd be more convenient cos I have minimal time to work on suits and I like spending less time away from suits!

I have never shipped via FedEx and tried looking up comparisons but all I found was stuff about pricing comparison, not quality of each company. And I know it can vary since there are individuals who probably are just bad at handling packages but I figured it's still worth checking!
