Valentines Day 2020
Posted 6 years agoI don't know what it is, but I always get inspired to draw around this time of the year. Maybe it's me going crazy from winter. Whatever the case, V-Day YCH commissions are going good! If you'd like one send me a note, they're only $15.
Have a fluffy day :3

A furry a day keeps... idk...
Posted 10 years agoAugust was kind of crazy, and not a lot got done. September looks more promising and I'm gonna start it off right by getting back on my full-time schedule. What better way than by drawing/posting a furry every day?
yeah it's tuesday, I was up late last night with the first one so... here it is now.
Anyway, I'm still trying to get my speed up while still producing pics that don't horrify, that's the logic behind this nuttiness. And given I start a new job this week we'll see how it goes.
What this means for you: Gift sketches? IDK I have a list of pics I'd like to do, but if someone has a suggestion or would like a free sketch then leave me a comment, maybe I'll throw something together for ya ;3

Red's Twitter and YCH Commissions
Posted 10 years agoJust set up a twitter account for Red where I can post works-in-progress and random musings. I figure it's a half-step to the whole streaming thing, I'd like a way to get input on unfinished work but don't want to deal with streams atm.

Also as I dip a tentative toe into the world of commissioning I have a YCH up where I can draw your character wearing a yukata or jinbei! Check the commissions tab for info, currently have 3 slots available

Posted 10 years agoIt's official, I'm running a commission! Check out the commissions page for details, and send me a note if you'd like to be the envy of all your friends and neighbors, first to own a RedRabbit original. Each piece comes with a complimentary lick, retail value $5 X3
Almost... There...
Posted 10 years agoSometimes a picture takes a minute, sometimes it takes MANY minutes. This fact has been the biggest mental road block for me, if I could consistently crank out pictures in a predictable time-frame it would be the easiest thing in the world to determine pricing. Although there's tons of resources out there for a person looking to get better at art, not a whole lot of it targets speed. It could be that there's no real tricks to that part, it all comes down to practice and familiarity. I guess for now I'll just have to get comfortable with the idea that whether I'm on-time or not these things will get done, and the more I do it the easier it should be to stick to a window of, say, 4-5 hours.
That's the goal anyway.
Samples are done! And will be posted sometime today! Since I'm all but completely unknown here I'll probably make a commission post on the forum's black market, seems like a good place to start.

Mission: Possible
Posted 10 years agoHere we go.
I've wanted to do commissions for a while now, and seeing as I have an abundance of free time I think I might go for it. I have a plan in the works to do a series of cute japanese matsuri themed furry 'cards' starring commissioned fursonas, seems like as good a plan as any to start running commissions with. One key element here is the inclusion of a japanese, paper-craft style background for the characters, something reminiscent of origami paper designs.
Of course, rather than just draw one up I had the brilliant idea to built my own template of japanese motifs in Inkscape (open source vector program similar to Illustrator) so that i could quickly throw together unique scenes and easily color-swap the different elements involved. After several hours of hand-building sakura petals, geometric repeating patterns an random other furikake I think I have enough to work with, of course hand-drawing this stuff might have taken just as long in the end. Oh well...
In other news the new Mission Impossible movie opened last night and was surprisingly good. I was one of the few people who felt that Ghost Protocol was a kid-friendly cartoon made by a guy who should stick to directing animated rats rather than action stars... so at least for me the bar wasn't set very high. But rogue nation managed to take all the good parts of the last one (read: Simon Pegg) and deliver a picture that was fun, action-packed, and had all the brain-twisting spycraft nonsense you would want from an MI sequel. Not to mention a very capable leading lady... Rawr.
So with that a new pattern emerges - Odd numbered MI movies kicking ass, and even numbered ones sucking ass. While nothing can touch MI 1 for me it's nice to see the series can still produce a unique kind of spy action flick.
Ok rant over. I'm working on samples for my VERY FIRST commission as we speak, keep your ears perked :3

Dumb Questions, Part 2
Posted 11 years agoCould I get some help with abbreviations? It could be that five minutes of concentration would shed light on this, but I'm super lazy.

What is YCH? SB?
I'm gonna guess that AB is auto-buy (not totally helpless!)

Rocky starts and Indie games
Posted 11 years agoAs predicted I got a rocky start, my latest submission taking somewhere around 14 hrs while I was aiming for 10. Oh well, at least I finished within the week.
Hope all my NA dwelling furries had a happy thanksgiving! I'm bad at switching into introspective mode, but I did have a great time with the family, followed by a mopey self-indulgent weekend. So to cheer myself up I took advantage of the black Friday steam sales to pick up some cheap games on mmy wishlist. Among them were Vanguard Princess - a very pretty if basic 2D fighter made by a capcom sprite illustrator, and Freedom Planet, a charming sonic-esque platformer also with excellent sprite work (featuring cute furries!)
I always thought 2d sprites were killed in their prime, right when we started seeing really amazing stuff like yoshi's story on the snes. It's fun seeing Retro art make a comeback in the Indie scene, but few people are pushing sprite art into new levels of quality, which is what both these games do!
I paid $10 for the pair so if you're looking for pretty games do yourself a favor and pick em up!
I was also considering that I don't have many games featuring furries, does anyone have a favorite furry game recommendation?

This time we're going all the way
Posted 11 years agofamous last words...
I really want to commit to this art generating thing. I've always admired the many amazing artists on fa, thought it would be a dream come true to have that kind of expressive talent. Now I'm at the point where I'm happy with my work more often than not, and I want to make art submission more of a regular process. But speed and time is an issue, the rate of submissions on this site is dizzying. I know I'm not there yet, probably won't ever be at the point where I'm uploading multiple pieces a day. But it feels like I'm getting faster at least. And that counts for something.
Seems like one of the biggest advantages of this site is the chance to get inspiration and encouragement from other members, so the plan is to post more regularly (I'll keep em short, or at least more interesting topic-wise) and submit at least one piece a week. I should b able to manage that, and maybe improve my speed in the process.
If you read all that, first of all sorry, and secondly wish me luck! Should be fun?

Dumb Questions, Part 1
Posted 11 years agoWoo first week of my furaffinity career. I have a few questions, and if you're reading this you might have the answers! Any help would be greatly appreciated
First question! Art trades, sales and ownership!
It seems like many people like to run art sales and trades on their account, and i'd like to know how these things work. It makes sense to charge for a commission, since you are paying for art that you can influence, but many art auctions / trades involve art that's already been drawn. So what happens when someone buys one of these pictures? do they get a hi-rez version, do they get rights to post the picture to their profile page? Is it an issue of ownership? because in most cases it looks like the artist is still credited when pictures are posted. Is there a built-in assumption that the artist won't sell the same illustration more than once?
So yeah, just curious. Thanks for your help!
