I got blocked -disappointed cougar-
Posted 8 years agoSo I just discovered that a certain lioness has blocked me--I won't say who, because that would be rude, and if she did this intentionally, she knows who she is. I don't know why she did this, since I can't remember bothering her.
So, lioness, if you are reading this, would you mind letting me know why you blocked me? I can't remember offending you, and I certainly never wanted to. So if I have offended you, I sincerely apologize. The last comment I remember making to you was regarding your new job, offering what I thought might be a useful tip.
If you, dear reader, think you know who I'm talking about it, please don't talk about it openly here or elsewhere. I don't want to start or get involved in drama. If you feel like helping, send me a Note.
This isn't the first time I've been blocked, but it is the first time I wanted to apologize and couldn't--the furry in question doesn't have any alternative contact information on her page. Previously, whenever I got blocked by someone to whom I wanted to apologize, I was able to do so by other means of communication--once by email (I made a furry email account for the occasion) and the other time on Weasyl. Both outcomes were positive and I was unblocked. I would like this to end the same way.

New icon (press F5 if you don't see it)
Posted 8 years agoI have long felt that I needed a new icon, and I finally have one. It's from a picture I took just the day before yesterday, in which I was sitting on the bank of an island in the north half of Trout Lake. I took the picture by using a tripod as a "selfie stick" and setting the camera's timer. This was because I was alone on that island--no escort, no one. Fursuiting alone is fun, but I don't recommend it. If you do it, you do so at your own risk.
Minor profile updates
Posted 8 years agoI just did some minor updates to my Fur Affinity profile. Read it and see if you can spot them! Many more are needed (like, say, a complete re-making of the profile), but they can wait. I got the most painfully dated stuff removed or changed (there was one that had OBVIOUSLY been typed way back in 2012)!
FINALLY, after FIVE YEARS...!
Posted 8 years ago... I'M A FURSUITER!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAAAYYYYY!!!!
*bounces happily in chair*
Oh boy, I can't even begin to describe how exciting this is! I ordered the first batch of fur and other supplies from CR's Crafts on or slightly before April 9th, 2012. So I think I can safely say that's when I started work--though it was some time, if I remember rightly, before I actually opened the box of fur, since I had to make a pattern first (I'm picky about fursuit fitting, plus I wanted the experience). I thought I'd have that thing finished in a month or two... but no... I gradually began to wonder if I'd ever finish it.
But I kept working on my fursuit... AND FINALLY... my persistence paid off.
MY FURSUIT IS FINISHED!
Pictures are coming soon!!!
EDIT: How did I forget to fix the typos?! Sorry, folks!

Looking for art? This artist is doing Emergency Commissions!
Posted 9 years agoJust like the title says, this furry is in financial straits (and other straits, too) and is doing some emergency commissions to earn a bit of money. She is in college right now and receiving professional art training, so you know you'll get good artwork. I've seen her work and I think it's beautiful (and I don't say that of just any art). If you're interested at all, check out her journal here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7835714/
Furry in need of business! Ear sets, tails, plushies, etc.
Posted 9 years agoThere's a furry by the name of
karmma who makes ear sets, tails, full or partial fursuits, fursuit props, plushies, and the likes. I've seen her stuff, and I think they look very good (and I have a keen eye for quality). If you are looking for anything to be made that can be made with cloth and fake fur, please check her out and commission her! She is in need of funds at the moment, so this would help her greatly. If you would like more information, you can read her own journal on the subject here: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7773976/

Posted 9 years agoYep, that's right, I'm on Weasyl now! I'm not leaving Fur Affinity at all, I just thought I'd join Weasyl to keep up with some furries who've left this site. You can find me here: https://www.weasyl.com/~redstripecougar
There's nothing on my profile page yet except a few Favorites. I'll probably upload some stuff next week, and fill out the profile information then.
Well... I guess that's all for now.

Nerd/Retro-Computing Question!
Posted 10 years agoSo right now I'm browsing Fur Affinity, and posting this journal, using Windows 2000 Professional running on a 10-or-so-year-old computer (Gateway Profile 5.5). It runs quite well, but ever since I installed the unofficial Service Pack 5.1 and an Unofficial Update Rollup, my antivirus software (which is an old version with updated definitions that's fully compatible with Windows 2000, hasn't worked quite right. But that's not what I'm asking about (though if you can help with this, I'd appreciate it! I'm using AVG Free 9.0). What I want to ask is this: do any of you still use old/outdated (not to say obsolete) operating systems? In other words, are any of you into Retro-computing? If so, why?
I mostly use Linux, since it's so much more secure, efficient, stable, and reliable than Windows, but when I need Windows, I almost always go for Windows 2000 or Windows XP (though my main computer has Windows 7 Pro in addition to two versions of XP Pro). In my experience, Windows 2000 and Windows XP are the two best versions of Windows that Microsoft ever made, and I've found QUITE a few others who say the same.
Just got curious and thought I'd ask. Plus I'm always amused when people hear that I use old operating systems, look at me funny, and flatly ask, "Why?"

Help needed signal boost
Posted 10 years agoAs many of you know, I like to pass the word on when someone I'm watching--or someone that someone I'm watching is watching--needs help, and today is no different.
chayce , a very nice gray Labrador, is in a lot of pain from some sort of dental problem. He's short on money right now and could really use some help. So I'm passing the word on for him. Please help however you can--finnancialy if possible, by passing the word on like I am otherwise.
You can read his journals about the matter here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7250298/
And here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7251586/
Chayce and I thank you for reading and helping!

Okay, this sucks.
Posted 10 years agoSo I just noticed something new about Fur Affinity, no doubt a result of the IMVU buyout: there are these big fat annoying AD BANNERS at the top of every page! I'm not referring to the ads for various furry artists that have always been there, but a little lower (at least in the Classic View mode), below the site banner. They have NOTHING AT ALL to do with ANYTHING furry! Right where the site administrators' announcements used to be.
How many other furries find this irritating?
And if I were to leave Fur Affinity, which website would you recommend I go to: Furocity, InkBunny, SoFurry, or Weasyl? Or is there another furry art website out there that I haven't heard of? Is ArtSpots still a thing (yes, I know that's not the best grammar)? What about VCL--and what does that name stand for anyway?
Annoyed cougar out.

HELP PLEASE! With an antique radio~
Posted 10 years agoI think this is the first time I've posted a “help please” journal. I recently acquired an antique Philco radio/ record player. I don't know the model number off paw, and I'm not going to go upstairs to look at it, but it's of the usual “All American Five” design (meaning it has five tubes). Oddly enough (at least to me), the rectifier tube is a dual triode, and not a diode as I'd expected such a tube would be.
Now the reason I'm asking for help is because this radio hums loudly when I turn it on. The humming starts as soon as it warms up and doesn't go away for over half an hour. It gets very annoying, especially for my parents, who have even less tolerance for radio interference and other unwanted radio noise than I do. And turning the volume down doesn't make it any quieter. So I'm asking if those of you who know old radios (and you know who you are) could tell me what is causing this hum. My personal guess is either the rectifier tube or the power-supply capacitor. The humming noise does get much quieter after a while, becoming barely audible after an hour or so, but it never goes away completely. By the way, the rectifier tube has an odd gray deposit on the inside of the glass near the bottom (it's not the same as the silver deposit from the getter, which is usually at the top), and the heater wires stick out of the ends of the cathode quite far. I'm wondering if the heater, which runs on 60 Hz AC, is causing interference inside the tube. I know tube heaters can emit electrons just like the cathode.
Also, the record player's tonearm resonates so much that I can actually hear the record playing even if the amplifier is turned off! Normally the record player wouldn't work if the main switch, which controls the radio and audio amplifier, is turned off, but when I got this thing, I found that the record player motor wasn't getting power through the radio's power switch as it should, so I rewired the record player motor directly into the power cord. The motor is a standard shaded-pole AC motor, such as fans use, so I could safely do this. But does anyone have any idea what to do about that tonearm resonance? Unlike the humming noise (which affects the record player aw well as the radio), the tonearm resonance isn't annoying, but I think the record player might give better sound quality if it weren't for that resonance.
I've got the idea that Philco radios were cheap products in their day. And still are, if the antique shop prices them correctly, which is one reason I bought this one. Out of three table-top record players at that shop, this one was the cheapest (and when the shop clerk heard how badly it worked—loud humming and couldn't pick up a single station inside the building), he let me have it for $35 instead of 40-some. I didn't ask for that discount; he just said “For $35, it's yours.”)!
So if anyone knows (or can guess) what might be causing this noise, I'd greatly appreciate the help! Thanks for taking the time to read this Journal!
P.S.--THIS JUST IN: A cougar needs some help financially ans she's taking emergency commissions. Here's her journal on the subject: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6548224/ PLEASE READ.

GREAT NEWS, FELLOW COUGARS (improved)!!!
Posted 10 years agoI posted this a few days ago, and one cougar pointed out that the link I provided was broken. I fixed the link, and she and I thought it would be a good idea to repost the journal in case anyone had seen it and didn't bother to comment. So here it is again:
"Yes, it's Redstripe here, and I've just found out that there's a COUGARS' GROUP here on Fur Affinity! Yes, that's right, A GROUP FOR ALL OF US COUGARS!! Here it is: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/cougarsoffa . Go check it out, read their description, pass this announcement on to all cougars you know of! As it is, I just found, I think, FIVE OTHER COUGARS I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE TODAY!
THIS IS GREAT!!! The only thing that will be better (and warrant more enthusiasm in my Journals) will be when I finish my fursuit... and that will be soon!"
Redstripe out (again), very excited.

Two Furries in Need of Help!
Posted 11 years agoSo I just found someone else who needs help. He's in a bad way and it seems that those who really SHOULD be helping him (his family and "friends" [by which I assume he meant non-furry friends]) are being no help at all. So here's where we step in and help! We furries are one big family of sorts, after all, are we not? Here is his journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6474769/.
Earlier I had posted a similar announcement for someone else in my journal, and I thought I would include it in this one too, in case anyone might see it on my home page or something. Here it is:
"So I was just going through a few days' worth of journals, and I found this one from a fellow cougar
(in any case, a fellow furry, for those of you who aren't cougars). She needs help financially and has some things for sale (plus she's open for various commissions), but I get the idea that there aren't very many furries seeing her journals. So for the love of furries, I am boosting her signal. Here's the original journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6480702/ .
Look at her other recent journal entries too, I think they contain more information and/or offers. See if there's something you want to buy or commission!"
Well, there you go. Please read their journals and see if there's anything you can do to help. Help financially if you can (the cougar,
karmma, is open for various commissions), or at least spread the word like I am. Better yet, do both if you can. Furries unite!

More Signal Boosting
Posted 11 years agoSo I just found out that
cizkaro 's car was stolen just after he moved to Orlando. He spent all his money on the move, hasn't found a job yet, and the police aren't being much help at all. You can read the original announcement here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6092461/ . And in case it's helpful, this is where I first read of the matter: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6092464/ .
Let's show this out-of-place arctic fox some furry love! (Not that kind.) Help him however you can! Donate if you can, boost the signal either way. Remember to include a link to his journal.

dipper needs an emergency heart operation, which is very expensive. I didn't read his whole journal on the subject, but it seems he's short on money and his insurance doesn't cover much. I just built a computer!
Posted 11 years agoWell, just as the title says. I built myself a portable desktop computer and it works very well. I was using it to type this, and I'm using it right now to post this journal.
I bet some of you are wondering exactly what a "portable desktop computer" really is. It is, basically, a giant laptop computer, too big to sit on the user's lap (unless, perhaps, with some such computers, the user happens to be a large man). My portable computer is too large to sit on anyone's lap while in use, and probably not very comfortable to have on one's lap at all. I don't know for sure, because I've never set it on my lap for any reason yet, but it's pretty darn heavy. It certainly can't be used on one's lap, because most of its weight is in the rear and it would fall off backwards. I built it to be pretty sturdy, but I don't want to find out if it's strudy enough to survive being dropped!
What does it look like? Well, if you can picture a large electric typewriter with a flat-screen computer monitor sitting on top, you have a pretty good idea. Except typewriters' bodies aren't made out of angle iron and scrap sheet metal, as the body (or frame, if you prefer) of my computer is.
This computer runs Windows XP Professional, version 2002, service pack 2. I only realized that I'd built something obsolete after I'd already built it. Good thing I happen to like obsolete technology! I mean it too. I listen to records--yes, vinyl records!--whenever I can (unless I happen to want to listen to the radio instead). Unfortunately my family's only working record player is in the basement, and is far too big to carry or move around alll the time. If my vacuum-tube radio worked (and could recieve FM) it would, most of the time, be the only radio I'd choose to listen to. Whenever I type anything that doesn't have to be sent somewhere electronically, I use a typewriter. Unless I'm typing a resume. If I could type this journal on a typewriter, I would (though computers sure are nice when you make a mistake in your typing). But I digress.
Back to the computer.
So here I am today at the library, and I'm FINALLY online! It's been over a year since I went online with my own computer. I have just updated my virus protection and I'm all ready to post this journal (as soon as I finish it, anyway). And I think we'll have internet service at home again soon--possibly as soon as Dad gets his computer to the shop to get the virus in it removed. I'll let you all know when that happens
Go ahead and post comments on this journal if you want to, or on anything else I post. I love comments, and Dad sometimes lets me borrow his cell phone to go online, so I do get on Fur Affinity a bit even without proper internet service to a computer. Plus, his cell phone can also be used as a Wi-Fi router, and now that I have the necessary software to use my Dad's USB Wi-Fi adapter (which he lent me today), maybe he'll let me use that at home sometimes too.
I guess that's all the news this cougar has for now!

We lost Internet Service
Posted 12 years agoWell, I am very sorry to have to say this, everybody, but just yesterday or the day before that, our Internet service was shut off. Or Dad had it cancelled. Maybe because I spen too much time online when I should be sleeping. I am using the computer at the library right now.
Now the point of this Journal is, I don't know how often I will be able to get online for a while. I think Dad plans to restart Internet service eventually, but until then, I might not be online much. So it looks like I might not be able to run the cougars' group here very much, if it gets started at all yet. I will be here as often as I can be. Seddel, if you're reading this, please don't take the idea for a cougars' group and run off with it. I don't know if you're that kind of guy, so if you're not (or if you are), please don't take offense! Feel free to start the group if you like, but I'd like to have a paw in running it when I can, okay?
So now I think that's all.
Sincerely,
Redstripe Cougar.

To all my Cougar Watchers
Posted 12 years agoSo, I've been thinking for quite some time about starting a cougars' group on Fur Affinity. Recently I got quite a bit of clamor for it from a certain cougar who just watched me, and so I want to know what the rest of you think. Are any of you cougars out there interested in starting a cougars' group? Or do I have to start it myself? I'm open to going either way--that is, having someone else start one, or starting one myself. I just thought I'd put the word you there to get your ideas and opinions.
Feel free to pass this journal on to other cougars if you like. In fact, you can pass it on to anyone if you want, but as it mostly applies to cougars (aka pumas or mountain lions), why not focus on them?
If I start a cougars' group, I'd appreciate suggestions for a group name.
Many thanks,
Redstripe Cougar

These furries REALLY NEED HELP!
Posted 12 years agoWell, this sounds like the worst living situation I've ever heard of. Go read
alastrine's Journal about it here ---> http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4427340 . I'm just shocked about this whole matter!
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.
Many thanks from them and me!

Another furry needs help!
Posted 12 years agoSo it seems that
tonicjim, who found out about the furry fandom by working at the Tonic bar in Pittsburgh (yes, right across from Anthrocon!) nearly died of a sudden illness of some kind. Read his journal about it here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4413914/ !
Now I'm sure all you readers can imagine just how huge his medical bills are going to be for quite a while now, due to this illness. Let's show him some Furry Love (no, NOT yiff!) and help him out however we can! If you, like me, are unable to help financially, you can always pass the message along in a journal as I am doing. I learned of this through
vpower17's journal on the subject. Pass it on whether you can donate or not please!
Sincerely,
Redstripe Cougar

Gun control???
Posted 13 years agoCopied-and-pasted from
sabre_t_tiger 's Journal entry of the same title, because I AM A FIRM SUPPORTER OF GUN RIGHTS AND THE SECOND AMENDMENT!
A Little Gun History:
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control, From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million
dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and
others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable
to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, Mayan Indians,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable
to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
56 million defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control:
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this
information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens saves lives and property and, yes. gun-control laws adversely
effects only the law-abiding citizen.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans
were ARMED!!!
If you value your freedom, please spread this anti gun-control message to all your friends.
