NAME + ACCOUNT CHANGE
Posted 13 years agoYeah I know. If you think it's an inconvenience for you I can guarantee it's more of one for me.
I've been putting it off far longer than I should have.
My new name (and subsequent accounts) is under the name "Rei Vagan"

Once most people have moved over, I'll be deleting this account.
Now for a year of confusion and fall out. Wish me luck.

Jasonafex Animated "Two Seater Abyss!"
Posted 13 years ago
jasonafex done gone and animated one of my pieces (NSFW): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9056287/FA: Aesthetics v. Performance
Posted 13 years agoIt’s hour eighteen on an all-nighter. I’ve started in on the next day’s coffee rounds and I come across a journal illustrating the latest UI change to FA:
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3887366/
That’s right; I’m 8 months behind on this shit.
From what little I can see and what little I can infer, It’s a little less boxy and a bit more Sheezy. This is not a bad thing.
I start to wonder is if they’re doing any work under the hood.
Based on the responses to the comments I’m guessing there’s going to be folders now.
I want to complain about FA’s lack of integration with other sites again, but that’s a dead horse better left unbeaten.
If this were an overhaul to the UI’s mechanics I might be more excited, but all of the same links are there - just shuffled around. Shuffled around in a slightly more visually-current way.
However, I’m left wondering when the imbalance of a Fur Affinity that looks modern, but doesn’t operate modern becomes noticeable to most people?
Perhaps when another service which balances aesthetic and performance avails itself?
FA offers what it does for free, but I’d pay for a site that does more.

Posted 13 years agoI made passing mention of streaming a session of our DSV Nautica Alternity game in the past, so I'm going to give it a go this mid-afternoon. We're pretty rowdy some games, and I expect no less for this one.
If you'd like a little more insight into the details of the DSVN universe, or if you just want to watch me kill off a couple player characters, come and watch.
I'll post an image/link when we start. See you soon!

Posted 13 years agoFA Interface Update IMO
Posted 13 years agoA step in a direction.
Probably a good one.
I've been tooling around with it today and it seems to be an improvement. For what I use that part of the FA interface for, it seems to have sped up navigation a touch.
Moving the banners up and to the right makes the overall page layout feel more tight.
Somewhere deep inside, a part of me was hoping to see some cross-network options appear there. Link to twitter or tumblr, SoFurry, DA, etc. Sadly no, but I'll take a slight user-end improvement over none.
I hear that the option to disable notes has been implemented for those out there who've been clamoring for that option. Good to hear. I mean, I'm just one artist so I like to hear that the functionality is working for more than just one kind of user.
There's still more stuff I need to poke around in the deeper parts of the interface, but I like it so far.
Good job FA admin. Keep it up! :)

Private Design - Comic Synopsis
Posted 13 years agoSo as some of you already know, I'll be starting up a new comic. I figured I'd write up a little blurb about what it is and where it takes place...
- - -
Private Design – Synopsis
Private Design takes place in a world not all that different from our own. There’s war, religion, science, sex, drugs and rock & roll. There’s an old star in the sky that rises and sets. The rich are getting richer and the poor are protesting. Familiar cities sprawl across a familiar landscape. Amidst all this, there’s Jessi Rhodes.
Jessi is a successful 23 year old Creative Consultant at Alchemy Design Solutions in the heart of downtown Vancouver. He’s the only son of a loving mother and father, though the term “son” is something of a genetic misnomer.
Jessi was born with a rare condition where he is genetically male in all aspects but one. Through a great deal of emotional support from his parents, unwavering pursuit of education, and a keen eye for aesthetics, he’s become one of the country’s most well paid designers. While his life is about as far from financial worry as you can get, his social life and social interactions are in constant turmoil. While he’s mastered social interaction, it serves only to distance himself from any meaningful relationships. As a gender oddity, his condition has him convinced that the only one he can trust with his secret is himself. It doesn’t help that everyone at the office is sleeping with each other, or that his neighbor belongs on the cover of Playfur.
This is the story of social awkwardness, a story of not fitting in, a story of being alone in a crowd and finding the strength to carry on. That even strangers can be your greatest source of strength. It’s a story that I hope everyone can relate to on some level.
It’s about being alone and in the end, coming to know that you never really were alone at all.
- - -
When I say Jessi's rich, I'm talking somewhere around ~$60 million. So there's going to be some nice cars and toys in the comic.
Can't say when I'm starting, but the pages will be posted here. As for the rating, I'm shooting for R (for nudity). That's about as ribbling as I'm willing to push the... free part of the comic. There will be digital download portions of the comic when things get a bit more heated if the desire to see more of what would have happened is there.
One limit I really want to set for myself here is a clear beginning, middle and end to the comic. A story that will play out and come to an actual conclusion, rather than just trail off (like so many of my other projects).
Wish me luck!

Want to Know Me Better?
Posted 13 years agoI've had a few people tell me that I'm hard to get to know. Isiah Jacobs interviewed me. It's pretty in depth. Have a read if you have a few moments. Keep in mind that the interview tone is satire news (like The Colbert Report), so if you're offended, you're supposed to be. It's all in good fun!

Posted 13 years agoNautica: Reviewed
Posted 13 years agoI’ve always sort of wondered what it would be like if someone were to review my comic. Over the past decade of doing DSV Nautica, albeit sporadically, there have been a couple short reviews here and there (a Google search turns them up if you’re curious), but nothing on the level of a full-blown review to my knowledge.
With more socially adept furries stepping up and doing audio and video interviews and reviews, I wonder what it would be like to have my work recognized in such a way, be it good or scathing. As much as I don’t necessarily think my comic is worthy of a review, e-mails and the sorts of comments I get at conventions when someone recognizes me leads me to while on what it might be like.
On a related note, when I was younger I always felt it would be a feather in my cap if I were to be invited as a GoH at a con where the theme was science fiction that year. I feel a little less strong about that prospect now, though there still that glimmer of anticipation and dejection when a convention announces next year’s GoH.
I’ve heard of the Ursa Major awards, but never really rallied to get Nautica into the nominations list. Nautica’s in the top 50 most subscribed web comics area on the Belfry Web Comics Index around the #26 out of 250+ area. I dunno. I don’t update it nearly as often as I used to, and to be honest I’m wrapping it up for an extended hiatus in the next couple pages to focus on a new comic, and probably to work on the second issue of the paperback (which I’m considering opening up to e-books).
I’m a little torn I suppose. On one hand, I don’t feel like it’s worthy of review, and on the other, I’ve sunk a decade into it and want to be recognized for the work. I guess I’m really just looking for attention like everyone else. Don’t mind me. :)
