Posted 15 years agoSO
I am very, very, very, very happy right now.
Long story short, my day job has taken me off my current assignment, but since I hadn't dicked around in the six months I'd been on it and have generally been a Pretty Swell Guy, I can come back whenever if I don't get permanently hired on with the gaming company. Meanwhile, said company is contracting me for another 1-2 weeks (which equals about 2-4 weeks worth of pay compared to the day job). Hi-fives all around.
Also, my landlady finally sent off my info this morning, so hopefully I'll have the apartment to go along with the maybe new job.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some arting to do, and then delicious barbecue. Mmmmmmm~

Posted 15 years agoDear Landlady,
If I lose the apartment I applied for over a week ago because you can't be arsed to give them my rental info, I will be extremely displeased.
Sincerely,
RF
P.S.: I don't consider being in bed with a migraine to be an excuse when you're currently getting ready to go see Alice in Wonderland. >(
I'm going to sleep for about 12-14 hours and get with everyone I need to get with when I wake up.

Posted 15 years agoGuys!
captaingerbear has made this awesome new game loosely based on the tag match piece I made a few weeks back. Aside from being able to play as FA's favorite werewolf, Grant*, Kedamono and Nickles are also available for your fighting pleasure! You can even add your own character! For serious! Why not take your pretty little selves over here to play?
http://bigfingers.ca/FEROCITY/Ferocity-Main.swf
For details about adding your own keed, check the description here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3483365/
Also, work is awesome! Sure hope I 'm offered a permanent position at the end of all this!

North Carolina or bust~
Posted 15 years agoPals! I'm gonna be working at a gaming company for a bit. Well, maybe a few bits, depending on how things go. In any case, don't expect to hear from me for at least a week. There probably won't be an update for PoL on Thursday, but if there is, you'll see it. Peace, babies!
EDIT: GOIN' 2 RALEIGH NAO.

Posted 15 years agoHey, pals! How's about joining me this Saturday at 2:30pm EDT for a live coloring of the cover of PoL Ep. 07? If you can make it, great! If not, I'll try to remember to record it.

Yarr, the auction, she be over!
Posted 15 years agoCongrats to the winner,
teddybearninja, and thanks to everyone who bid! Look for a new commission kid on the block in the next week or so, perhaps! This was an interesting little experiment, but I think I'll just do things as I normally have from now on and save the auctions for when I need to unload my original artwork or something.
After this, I have maybe two more full-color children to whip up, and then, I'll possibly start taking conbadge and/or colored sketch commissions again. Who knows?

PoL returns this Thursday!
Posted 15 years agoIt's true! In addition to that, I'll be doing a live coloring of the cover Saturday afternoon/evening on Ustream. I'm thinking somewhere between 2-4 EDT, but I'm open to suggestions.
Also, don't forget about the ol' commission auction I've got going on. 5:22 PDT is when it ends, folks! http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1014703.html

One day left!
Posted 15 years agoHey pals! You have until 5.22 PM PDT tomorrow to bid on the ol' ladder auction. As of now, the bidding is only at $50, a real steal! Remember, there's no reserve, so if you're going to bid, better do so soon~

Mild winter terror~
Posted 15 years agoWhile making an attempt to get to work today (the day after our second big storm), I spun out on the highway for the first (and hopefully last) time. It was a little frightening, actually! Thank god I happened to catch some early Bill Cosby stand-up on tv years back detailing such an event, otherwise I probably would have done the wrong thing entirely! Little sedans with no-wheel drive weren't made for winter driving. :/
So this makes three days I've missed of work. Bid high on that commission auction, kids! I could surely use it! http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1014703.html

Ladder commission auction, ahoy!
Posted 15 years agoHa ha, oh wow, if I had known we were going to be hit with a second storm, I totally would have gone to work today!
Anywho, I was going to hold off for this until after V-Day, but rather than risk my life driving down 30 minutes of dark, unplowed highway to get to work (WTF West Chester), I'll just start up the ol' experimental ladder auction and see how it goes.
http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1014703.html
I recently discovered that I could knock out a full-color, single-character commission in an afternoon consistently, so if I reserve larger pieces for auctions and keep to the smaller kids, I may be able to cut back with these ridiculous day jorbs I keep getting and just get something part-time with commissions picking up the slack, at least until I'm hired onto a studio or something. Well, it's a thought, anyway.
Anywho, I'll be announcing conbadge commissions in a few weeks, as well as an updated pricing list. Stay tuned.

Stuff
Posted 15 years agoI'd really like to make a PoL game heavily based on the Ace Attorney series. Imagine it! Keda as Phoenix, Hyde as Edgeworth, I... I haven't quite figured out the female roles yet...
Pals! How much do you guys plan on spending for Valentine's Day? I'm eager to get my ladder commission underway, but don't know if I should wait a week or two.
Also, I'll probably be quitting my job soon. The BS levels are KILLING me.

Feel free to go in-depth and crazy with this kid.
Also, stay tuned for commission status info as well as auction info later in the week.

Action Fanart Bonanza -- NOW!
Posted 16 years agoHey, pals! Just a reminder to stop on by PoL every Monday and Thursday until the second week of February for the veritable smörgåsbord of fantastic fanart~
Also, Avatar is a fun movie. Not fun enough for me to pay $8 to see it again, but fun, nonetheless.

A few things
Posted 16 years agoI'm pretty sleepy, so I'll make it brief.
Firstly, I'll be working on fiercely and lubelessly pounding the rest of my commissions during the month's break from PoL. I have about eight more people to attend to, so I'll do it well and make sure that it counts. </Naughty By Nature>
Secondly, ol' Uncle R.F. is saving up for a new (auction) car and a down payment for a foreclosed home, and so, will be taking commissions once the current queue is clear. I was thinking of trying something a little different in the form of a commission auction, just to see how it plays out, as well as make an effort not to overload myself with commissions, only to have people waiting for long periods of time for the work (because that's no good). In any case, more on that when the time comes.
Thirdly, I submitted my Bremen Musician piece for 2011 edition of Spectrum, which is a pretty damn nice illustration annual. It'd be pretty ace if it were published and could mean getting some potential pro work. I won't know until sometime in April if I made it, so until then, wish me luck!
Fourthly, I CAN'T STOP WATCHING YU-GI-OH GX HALP

Posted 16 years agoA conversation I had with my mother earlier today that was just too special to keep to myself.
Mom: I'll be taking my vacation in May sometime.
Me: Mine, too. I'll be spending a weekend in Florida for [particular event].
Mom: Is that around the Everglades?
Me: no, but [so-and-so] went there once. I didn't go.
Mom: Good. I didn't need a phone call saying you were eaten by a shark.
Me: .........It's alligators that are in the Everglades. Not sharks.
Mom: Oh.
Me: You know, I'm going to draw a shark in a motorboat, on its way to visit his alligator friend in the marshes. Or even better, maybe the alligators just started wearing those fake shark fin pool toys just to mess with you.
Mom: Maybe they did!
Me: How did they get them? How could they even convey that they'd want to make such a purchase, let alone get in the store?
Mom: They ordered them off of the internet!
Me: How did they power their computer?
Mom: They used a hydroelectric generator!
Me: Ah... *speechless*
Mom: See? I answered all the questions! You can't even say anything! *beams*
And I couldn't.
Keep in mind this was all between laughs. This was better than the time she claimed pigs go 'moooooooooo'.

Takin' it to the street~
Posted 16 years agoBefore I get to what I'm about to get to, let me bring a few things to the table.
I am no fan of revealing everything a reader needs to know about a given story in the first few pages, or even the first book. I am even less of a fan of expositional onslaught. If you give it all away from the start, it's boring. I'm in the 'on-a-need-to-know-basis' camp, and the 'take-as-much-or-as-little-time-as-you-need-to-tell-your-story' camp. That's just the way I feel about it.
At first, I took a bit of offense, when I read what I read, but then I had to take a step back for a second and put myself in the shoes of my readers. Art aside (because sometimes, I'm just dowright lazy when it comes to drawing PoL, not that it matters too much, since I'm doing it for my own personal enjoyment and just felt like sharing), I thought to myself, 'hey, maybe this is a chance to improve as a writer.'
http://badwebcomics.wikidot.com/for.....d-furry-comics Scroll down to the very bottom, read what was said about PoL, and please tell me how much is true and how much is up for debate.
EDIT: Pinkuh made the excellent point that PoL is still in its world-building stage, so it sort of renders his argument useless (I guess I just forgot since I've been working on it the past six years. Whoops!) Even so! I'm still interested in hearing what you guys have to say!

Honey and clover! Fanart-receiving time is over! (I'm sorry)
Posted 16 years agoHey, pals! The upcoming PoL Fanworks Extravaganza has had a mondo turnout! So mondo, it's forcing me to use 80s surfer lingo! You dudes and dudettes that sent in work are totally radical! So radical, that I now have more than enough to keep PoL afloat in updates through January. Bodacious!
Aaaaand now I'm tired of sounding like the Michaelangelo of my youth. Long story short, thanks for your participation, folks! You can still send in stuff if you want to, but it won't be apart of the main show until early February, just so's you know~

It's snowing! + PoL on TV Tropes
Posted 16 years agoMaaan, I am not looking forward to trying to get into my car later on AT ALL.
Also! PoL has its own entry on TV Tropes. If those of you out there are familiar with how it works and wish to help edit, go for it!

The thrilling conclusion! (EDIT)
Posted 16 years agoAccording to the bank, that particular account didn't have overdraft protection (which is balls because I signed up for it in 2005, but alas, I no longer have the documentation to prove it), but as a courtesy removed two of the three overdraft charges. Sucks that I'll have to give them $36 of my hard-earned bucks, but it beats giving them $106 of it. I have, of course, made sure my account has OP now, and WILL be keeping my letter saying so this time around.
I'll have to look into this whole credit union deal in the meantime.
EDIT: They charged me AGAIN for NSF fees totalling $72. I guess I sounded frustrated enough where they agreed to take them off on top of the overdraft charges I'm already owed, but I'll DEFINITELY be looking at credit unions in the area.

BAAAAAANK!! *angry fist shake*
Posted 16 years agoMy bank has been royally pissing me off this week.
First, I go on to check my balances on Tuesday, like I do every morning, and every account is coming up zero, but my transaction history remained. After forcing myself to calm down, I call my bank, which normally has 24-hour customer service, only to find that they've cut back on hours and don't even begin taking calls until later in the day. Still fearing that I'd been cleaned out somehow, I call my mom to ask if she could check her account, thinking it might just be a system update. Of course, her account was fine. Bordering despair, I logged one more time to be sure, and of course, it was just a stupid hiccup. Thanks for the heart attack. :/ So, I discover that my billing account was overdrawn by a dollar and some change (not that it mattered since I had overdraft protection), but just to make my life easier, I dropped in a certain amount to cover the charge plus a few extra dollars.
Fast forward to today, I log on to check my accounts, and lo and behold! My billing account is -$106! And why is this? WELL, apparently, the bank charged me three overdraft fees in a single day for two charges to that account, despite the total amount in that account leaving me with a positive balance after the charges, and DESPITE my accounts having overdraft protection! (Even if I didn't, where do they get off charging me THREE TIMES for TWO CHARGES?) And of course, I can't even call about it until after I'm at work.
I'm hoping I won't have to leave yet another bank for dumbfuckery, as I really do like this one and haven't had any real problems up to this point, but I'm just about ready to, and probably will if it isn't resolved. >(

Five pages left~~ (+/-1) + PoL Fanworks Extravaganza
Posted 16 years agoPals! Have you heard! There are seriously five (give or take a page) pages left in the current PoL episode. When that's all over and done with, we'll be taking a month's break to get a buffer going for Episode 07 as we transition into a Monday and Thursday update schedule. That's right, babies. Twice-a-week updates. If all goes as planned, we'll be kicking off with a pre-game show of a live Ustream of me coloring the cover.
So what will be going on for the four weeks inbetween? WELL, that's where you pals come in. Basically, we'll be showcasing all the wonderful new fanarts that you lovely people have made the effort to create. Right now, I've gathered about three weeks worth of work, but more is needed still! So! If'n your itching to draw something new and enjoy these crazy kids of mine, why not give it a try and send in something?
You can either post it here on FA and link me, or send it to rftigermode[at]gmail.com. Either way works. You've got five more weeks, so take your time and have some fun~
