Az state fair
General | Posted 13 years agowent to the state fair today since admission was free before 1pm. I stayed till about 530 pm or so so in general a 5 hour stay .In that time I did the following
watched pigs race
saw live stock
saw arts and crafts
had fried oreos
had a barbeque turkey sandwich, cowboy beans and coleslaw
had a big cup of dr pepper with half price refill since I bought the souvenir cup
ate nachos with some very mildly spicy tortilla chip sort of a light version of a dorito almost
had indian fry bread with chili and cheese
and I bought a Full Metal Alchemist wallet with Ed and Al on it.
Over all it was a good time a little more expensive then I liked to be but still cost me 65 for parking food and the wallet. But not too budget killing.

brief anthrocon summary
General | Posted 13 years agobefore I completely forget it all. So the briefest of summaries is that I had a good time. Huh?you want more? ok..
I flew out on thursday morning on Southwest .I had a layover at Chicago.Much to my surprise I ran into
balto sitting at the front of the A line. Since he was in a wheelchair while waiting ,he allowed me to accompany him as a preboarding guest of his. That made picking a seat a whole lot easier and I thank him for that. He also hooked me up with a group of furs who were picking up baggage ( and I completely forget their names right now sorry ) at the same time as us to split a cab ride.Thats much cheaper then getting a shuttle and I will try to do that n the future if I can.
The cabbie took a short cut from the airport because traffic was starting to back up.which saved us a bunch of time so that was very cool as well.Anyway I checked into the Omni after he dropped the other furs off at the Westin first. There was a brief mix up with my room.I was told it was a king sized bed which messed up my plans I though since I was going to have a packed room. But it turns out since I was a select guest and they were out of double queen beds.I got a king bed SUITE! so that was awesome! I had a king sized bed I shared with one roomie.I had a pull out bed from the couch in the other room and had a roll up bed brought up because neither I nor the front desk realized the suite had a pull out bed.I had them keep the bed in the room and that worked out good to give everyone plenty of room and no one had to sleep on the floor or a chair or something.
I met up with my roommates later in the day

drako. also picked up my badge and supersponsor package which included a neat cup,a print by both artist guests of honor Mr.Madan the creator of Sly Cooper and
Mkaz , and a voucher for the con tshirt by mr Madan. I then visited Furnandos/Fernandos to use up the first of my three supersponsor local restaurant coupons. (the other two were hanlons cafe and lesvos gyros ) I think I headed back to the room because I was tired.I dont remember doing any late night stuff.I still probably didnt get to bed until 1 or 2 am I think. I woke up early and met
Slyknuxdragon in the omni restaurant for breakfast. I had their buffet. Its pretty damn good even though it is a bit expensive basically $20 with tax.
I then headed back to my room ,grabbed my bag and headed over to attend opening ceremonies. I then got at the back of the line to get into the dealers room.they really should give people who attend opening ceremonies a chance not to be so far in line or give supersponsors a chance to move up.Theres things that sell out quick or artists who book up quick on commissions.
Anyway I went a got several commissions of which I posted in my gallery so I wont go over those. I will go over some stuff I bought. I bought HoofBeat from club stripes (yes the porn pony book thats sold for hundreds of dollars after the con since it was a con exclusive ) also a couple of hentai doujinshis and the peaches and cream super delicious book that reprints a bunch of their appearances.I also bought an "artfarts" book by
dingbat I bought some doujinshis by
tojyo and a piece of original art of Applejack by him that
kensingshow was selling. picked up my Electra book 2 Populars by
technicolorpie . Also picked up Prydwen by
ladyfoxglove from sofawolf press. I bought some magnets and bookmarks by :xianjaguar: a portfolio by
ajin also old copies of
ebonyleopard original homemade copies of extinctioners 1-3 he said his mom found a box of not too long ago.I also bought 3 hardcover Blacksad books from
toonfx who also was handing out used computer games that he didnt want anymore.I ate no dinner because I knew I would be attending the dealers/artists art show reception. They allow in supersponsors as well so thats how I got in. They had a nice spread of cheese and crackers and vegetables and cookies, juice and pop and water. I cant remember exactly what I did after that. But I went back to the room and went to bed around 2 or 3 am .
I didnt get breakfast on Sat because there is the early 1130 am lunch with supersponsors and the guests of honor. The food was fantastic as always..I followed up on sketches, watched the fursuit parade,,meeting artists and seeing some g.o.h. panels .I hit the gyro place after watching uncle kages story hour. I hung out with
Slyknuxdragon some and kicked him and a roommate out when it was getting close to 4 am so i could get some sleep.
Sunday I hit hanlons for breakfast with
Slyknuxdragon picked up sketchbooks and said goodbyes to people ,then attended closing ceremonies. Some quick figures on the con 1044 fursuiters in the parade, 5179 attendance for the con, over 20,000 raised for the charity Hello Bully which made the lady in charge of their organization cry tears of joy.It got a lot of people misty eyed actually. I then met up with
daverab after the con and hit Primonti Brothers. There was a surprising number of furs in there, and even walking to it as we walked back. I hung out in the zoo for a bit until a few minutes before it closed at midnight. It was neat to see mr.Madan show up in the zoo for a few minutes toward the end .I got to talk to hm briefly. Both he and Mike Kazaleh both were very impressed with the con and how they were treated overall. My only complaint is they scheduled panels of both of them overlapping at times and not in rooms close to each other. I hope that is changed for future years..
Finally I got my room emptied out of roomates, and met my friend
mythicfoxand his friend and went to 5 guys over near Pitt university in Oakland. (the suburb of Pittsburgh not the California city) and they were nice enough to drop me off at my grandmas northwest of Pittsburgh like 12 miles away.I then spent the next week visiting family and relaxing.

SOPA 2 : Electric Boogalo
General | Posted 14 years agoHeres something I figured is worth helping spread the word on.
"A direct assault on Internet users" is what the ACLU is calling it. A U.S. House committee has already approved HR 1981, a broad new Internet snooping bill.
And get this -- it's also authored by SOPA sponsor Lamar Smith.
They want to force Internet service providers to keep track of and retain their customers' information -- including your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses.
The Internet blew away the insiders with our work against SOPA. Let's do it again this time:
Please click here to urge your lawmakers to oppose the snooping bill -- it's already passed through committee.
http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/snooping/?akid=1218.97410.1PlR5D&rd=1&t=3
The ACLU, the EFF, Demand Progress, and 25 other civil liberties and privacy groups have expressed our opposition to this legislation.
ISPs would collect and retain your data whether or not you're accused of a crime.
Supporters shamelessly dubbed it the "Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act," but our staunchest allies in Congress are calling it what it is: an all-encompassing Internet snooping bill.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California -- a SOPA hero who also led Democratic opposition to this bill -- said, "It represents a data bank of every digital act by every American [that would] let us find out where every single American visited Web sites."
This legislation is appalling, and it's already passed through committee. Will you click here to urge your lawmakers to oppose it?
Thanks,
Demand Progress
PS: Let's stop this one in its tracks, just as we did with SOPA. Please forward this email to your friends, or use these links:

I think the master emerald has been stolen!
A 57,000-carat emerald, which is said to be the world's largest, will be sold on January 28 at Western Star Auctions in British Columbia, Canada. The giant jewel weighs 11.5 kilograms and is around 12 inches.
On Monday, the gem was appraised at $1.15 million since it is only a rough cut stone. But Western Star Auctions owner Mike Odenbach told Huff Post Canada he thinks it could fetch more at auction. "It's not unusual for gemstones to sell a lot higher than their appraised value, just depending on who wants to possess the largest emerald in the world," he said. Odenbach described the dark green emerald as "nothing short of spectacular."

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH—Despite not having published a new comic strip since December 1995, cartoonist Bill Watterson has reportedly taken the time every day since to write, pencil, hand-ink, and, out of spite, destroy a new installment of Calvin And Hobbes. "Wow, this might be one of the best yet," Watterson said as he completed his 5,689th strip of the past 16 years and then immediately fed it into a paper shredder. "I bet my millions of fans would really love this whole new direction for Spaceman Spiff. Oh, well, fuck them." According to sources, Watterson also spends a portion of his time calling comic strip syndicates to discuss publishing new material, only to abruptly announce, "Actually, that's never gonna happen," and hang up the phone.
the funny part is I almost believe its true.

General | Posted 14 years agoI dont do too many political journals. but this recent news concerns me
(copypasta)
Congress is treating you like a criminal. That's why their broad new Internet snooping bill is being called a "direct assault on Internet users."
It would force Internet service providers to track and store their customers' information -- including your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses.
Will you join us in opposition to this mess of a bill by emailing your lawmakers right away? Just click here.
They've shamelessly dubbed it the "Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act," but our staunchest allies in Congress are calling it what it is: an all-encompassing Internet snooping bill.
According to CNET, the "mandatory logs would be accessible to police investigating any crime and perhaps attorneys litigating civil disputes in divorce, insurance fraud, and other cases as well."
Will you join the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Library Association, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Demand Progress, and 25 other civil liberties and privacy groups that have expressed our opposition to this legislation?
Thanks for fighting for Internet freedom.
-- The Demand Progress team
P.S. Thanks for signing: The bill just passed committee, so it's time to push back hard. Will you please ask your friends to take action too?
