I was asked to take over a panel on making comics on friday evening. I said yes because I've sorta wanted to do this kind of thing, and I have no idea what I'm going to do besides maybe write up some notes and possibly get my computer to be projected on an overhead.
I'm roping in
astolpho to help me out and maybe he can get someone else too, but okay, there's a thing that might be happening.

State of the MFF preparations

I have MOST of the things I wanted ready done. Unfortunately, because of an issue with the printer I selected, I have to drop three of my intended prints, including the Kyogre picture. There's still 13 different pictures, though I am not sure I'll find opportunity to trim them all before the con.
I don't have a vinyl banner like most of the cool kids so I will probably look really silly; however I would much rather prepare a good one for next time than slap one together for this one.
As far as I am aware, the Housepets books will be arriving at the hotel today; there is no way I could take that weight on the airplane. I have some other goodies ready or nearly ready; the bookmarks and acrylic tags. Should also have a big box of old sketches for sale.
In all, I have spent around $1000 in prep for this con, most of that going toward the books. They'll cost $15 at the con, but that comes with a free bookmark and signature.

Dropped the ball here, guys (Housepets Book 2)
Posted 14 years agoThere was a major misprint in the copies up until now (missing comic). I am now working of fixing it.
Luckily, this does not affect the autographed preorders. In fact, if you have preordered a book but had not paid, you have an extra day and a half to make payment (email or note me to get details again.)
If you HAVE already ordered the book from Createspace or Amazon, I am working on a solution to get the books replaced. I don't have the resources to replace for free completely, but I CAN probably get it to you wholesale and also include some swag that's only available at the con. If you bring your misprinted book to the con, I will replace it free and you'll get a free thing there too.
I'll get more details out in a few days, once the orders have been placed again.

I want something imaginative, fun, and with good technique. If you recommend me something in a series, at least do me the favor of telling me where I ought to begin, because more often than not the answer is not "from the beginning".

There's some crossover of course, but you'll probably notice right away that his viewers on DA seem to be a lot pickier--which I chalk up to DA having the more sidelines part of the fandom, which Alvin picks up because his art is rather strictly pinupy with less distinct animal features. Personally, I like all sorts of anthros, so I wonder if I've just been entrenched in the fandom for so long that my sense of what's actually bizarre is off. Is it MORE normal to only prefer a subsection of anthros, or it is a case of less perspective? Because my running theory usually has been "you never consider how it could possibly look good until someone portrays it just right".

I always find it a little hard to talk about my stories when I'm giving a general overview, probably because I try to think in terms of what I was thinking going into it, not necessarily the plot I came up with.

Why should I wait! SELF-PUBLISHING
Posted 14 years agoOh, before I get into the short message I have: my computer is broke and I'm waiting for a part to arrive so it can be repaired, so that's why my commissions have frozen temporarily. I'm working on the sketches, though.
So, I was getting really frustrated with having to find a publisher who would pay me decently, actually understand the sorts of stories I write, and take the risk of publishing something different. I'm going to say: perhaps that will never happen, and even if it does, why am I waiting so long for it to happen?
So starting soon (once I can start making good cover images again) I am going to start publishing ebooks through Smashwords. I'll start with my finished short stories (after a quick repolishing and thorough editing), selling multiple formats for $0.99. Yes, I can sell individual short stories for ONE DOLLAR, and that really makes more sense than requiring them to be bundled with others and sold for more.
And I don't have to wait the two-to-six months for the next edition to come out. I'm a little excited.
