Welp, that was quite the con.
So, after missing out on MFF 2017, I decided to come back this year due to the opportunity presenting itself!
I'd like to give a shoutout to  TaniciusFox for being such an awesome dude and letting me and  zhane3 be his roommates!

So, let's summarize!
First of all, holy crap is that convention getting too big. Final attendance numbers reached 10,750. That's astonishing. How do you even get 2000+ more than last year?! In any case, such a dense amount of furries was certainly reflected everywhere. Registration was hell, even for people who had pre-registered! Hell, especially for people who pre-registered. The line reached upwards of 3 hours! I was one of the unlucky bastards who had to go through that. Oh well, at least we took care of it on Thursday.

Friday was super hectic. I didn't even get to fursuit this day. We were just rushing from place to place, trying to get our bearings. Sort of succeeded. I did end up Rousing some trouble, but not as much as I would have liked to, hah! I did get to meet  Tokky,  TraceurFoxer and  wheetthins, though! Also, boy is it difficult to get food delivered.

Saturday was easily the best day out of them all! I started out the day fursuiting, and ended the day fursuiting! Not to mention I had the absolute best end to Foxes and Peppers' World Tour (I have been following them around cons, haha) with me joining other fursuiters by the stage. I swear I was driven to tears, heh.

Sunday is always sad, but to me it's kind of the natural process of winding down. Got to meet up with more of my buddies all around. It was awesome!

Okay, I'm posting this here so I can't escape from it and just go back on my word.
I'm gonna be participating, but I'll be doing it on my own terms. Instead of the usual 50,000 words, I'm reducing mine to 30 pages. One page per day should be enough, and it will result in a short-ish story of sorts.

And it's gonna be furry, alright!
This is not related to my ongoing story series or my personal furry canon, but I might add shout-outs here and there.

Here's hoping I can make it.

Man, that was quite the con.
For those of you not familiar with Furpocalypse, it's quite interesting compared to other furry conventions. First, it's a Halloween con every single year, along with a yearly theme, like with other cons. This year though, the theme was 80s horror movies. That logo was gorgeous! Second, because of the whole Halloween theme, this year we got to trick-or-treat around the hotel rooms, that was pretty damn fun and I got quite the sizeable loot (that I unfortunately am going to have to share, heh)! Third, the hotel is...well...it's something. The Red Lion Hotel Cromwell (previously a Radisson Hotel) is simply put a maze. The layout is labyrinthine and getting from one side to the other is confusing if you don't know the layout, not to mention the building is in a state of slight disrepair. I mean...it certainly adds to the creepy vibe of the con, haha!

Well, that aside, let's see what I did...
I fursuited a lot! This was the first big furry con to which I didn't take Fox ever since I got him. I decided to temporarily retire him until I can update his outfit, like my other Star Fox fursuit counterparts have done. Instead, I went as Rick. And considering  zhane3 got himself a fursuit of his own as well, we both went around most of the time. It was fun.

I met up with a lot more people than usual! I actually bumped into  Mr.SpaceCorgi by accident, and both of us were really surprised, heh. I talked with some other furs and such, and even managed to meet up with Fredrik Knudsen (and he remembered me after our little encounter at Too Many Games) from Down the Rabbit Hole and Nick Nocturne (got his autograph too) from Night Mind!

Didn't buy a lot of stuff, other than my usual fare (everyone knows I only buy soaps, candles and shirts at furry cons). So yay for my budget.

Oh well, that's another con in the bag and I'm ready for the next one!

Alright, so...I've decided to address the elephant in the room. Except in this case, the elephant is a wolf. I'm just gonna say it plainly.

Rick's design is inconsistent.

I recently wrote a retrospective on Rick's design and I purposefully sidestepped important details about his design. So, we're gonna address each and every one of them right here, and you, the public, are welcome to participate.
I also aim to have this journal be a showcase of the very talented artists that have portrayed Rick all these years. Consider it part of the 10 year furry anniversary celebration. (I will try not to include NSFW art if I can, but if necessary, I'll mark it as such.)
Aaalso, I'll just be adding one example per-artist, in order to keep things short.
AAALSO, I'll avoid any transformation-based (mid-change) examples and uncolored drawings due to them not being a good representation of "100% Rick".

1. Eye color

To put it bluntly, I've never really settled for a specific eye color for Rick. My own drawing style forgoes eye color, settling for simple dots in scleras. Other less lazy artists, however, have had to guess on their own or simply take other references very seriously. Here's some examples of the colors we've gotten so far.

From what I can gather, blue seems the popular choice here, and I understand why. The most prominent drawing references I use use the blue color scheme, and I assume everyone just bases themselves upon that. The next most popular choice is gray, which I gotta say, doesn't look bad either. Dead last is purple, which funnily, is the one I like the most. My Rick fursuit currently sports purple eyes to reflect that choice of mine, but looking back after listing all those examples, I believe this clashes with most representations of Rick, so I'll have to think about it.

2. Claw color

This one should be a no-brainer. I have drawn Rick with white (or yellowish white) claws ever since his conception. It should be an obvious choice. Well...some artists differ. Here's the examples I compiled.

Well, this one is yet another surprise. My preference for white claws hasn't been really heard. I can only blame myself for that, really. Once again, derivative design is the cause here. The references I have sent artists the most have been drawings where Rick has black claws. Recently even, I changed the claws on my Rick fursuit from black to the original white-ish in order to be a bit more aligned to what I traditionally think of as Rick. Additionally, I will not consider "No claws" very seriously here, having in mind that perhaps for a lot of artists this is just simply a stylistic choice. I just found it interesting how many drawings without them there are.

3. Pawpad color

This one, just like with pawpads, is one I envisioned from the very beginning. Rick was originally designed with pink pawpads, on both his handpaws and footpaws. It might have been, once again, some artist's creative freedom in play, but somehow Rick ended up with black pawpads in an astoundingly big number of drawings. Let's see.

I didn't include any "no pawpads" examples because once again, it tends to be part of the artist's style. The again, in many of the example drawings I provide, Rick's paws aren't usually turned towards the viewer, making it really vague and something I never think of specifying. In any case, black is definitely the popular option here, making it a very similar case to the claw color. Funnily, I recently had pawpads attached that I bought to my Rick fursuit paws. What color did I pick? Black. I didn't even think about pink, or maybe I didn't see them as an option and just went with my gut. In any case, now we have a big contradiction there: white claws, black pads.

4. Snaggletooth fang

I almost forgot this one. So, once again, since very early on, Rick's design has included his very characteristic snaggletooth, a fang that pokes out from the left side of his muzzle. Very few examples include it, for the same reasons outlined above.

Most of the time it doesn't make that big of a difference, but considering I keep drawing it as a crucial part of his design, I feel like it should be kept in some form.

Conclusion:
I gotta say, I'm pinning the blame of all this ambiguity on myself. And I can name several reasons for all this confusion.
- When I commission art, I just send previous drawings of Rick the artist's way and call it a day. I don't really attach descriptions to them, so of course artists take what they can from the drawings and do their thing.
- I have stalled on commissioning a proper reference sheet for Rick because I place regular commissions and fun situations as top priority while I keep using the same drawings (and not the ones I drew myself anymore, out of shame) as reference material for artists.
- Ever changing details might make them just pick their choice. I sorta like this, I've always believed in letting the artist do what they want, because I'm in really no position to ask for a lot. I don't want to sound bossy whenever I commission something, and I fall short in assertivity. It's kind of a personal problem, really.

In any case, I plan on solving this problem soon, by consolidating everything that makes up Rick for good.
So, what do you guys think about it all? Which is your favorite eye color/claw color/pawpad color combination and why? If I plan to get a proper reference sheet soon, I will need to consider all options together. You could greatly influence Rick's design for the future here!

Actually, I returned on Monday, but I've been basically resting and catching up on stuff in the meantime.
In any case, just came back from my first Anthrocon, and wow, that is a big con. Was pretty surprised on how basically the whole city is involved in furry shenanigans.

Spent this con with  zhane3,  KonanWolfpard, a non-furry friend of mine (that I pretty much brought with me as a social experiment) and met up with  gogetyourverb who very kindly showed us around!

It was pretty much a regular furry con for me, except I tried to be more ambitious with my suiting and clothes, it mostly worked out. All I can say is...I might have to bring a certain pup to these events more often.

If you see any photos of my Fox McCloud fursuit out there where Fox looks slimmer, taller and isn't wearing badges, that'd be  gogetyourverb right there! I let him wear Fox on Saturday after I got fed up of suiting. He did a pretty good job, too!

Alright then, next stop might be IBFC in Arizona in a couple of weeks, we'll see!

Who has too many pairs of boots to even count? That'd be Rick the wolf! Just a regular anthropomorphic wolf hailing from England, who then traveled to America for mysterious reasons. Rick is not much of a fighter, but he makes up for it with his distracting moves around the battlefield. Be careful not to get booted off the stage by one of his lucky breaks!

Match intro animation:
Appears in one knee, tying up one of his boots (or buckling it up, in alternate costumes), standing up and holding out two fists.

Fighting stance:
Bounces on his feet holding out both fists while looking around for any danger, his tail wagging behind him.

Idle animation 1:
Pulls out his phone to check it, puts it away and returns to stance.

Idle animation 2:
Picks his nose for a bit and returns to stance.

Walk animation:
Walks around semi-confidently. His walking SFX vary depending on his skin (different boots)!

Run animation:
He pulls his arms close to his chest and runs at a low speed. (Don't run around too much, or he'll stop and become vulnerable.)

Special Moves:

Neutral B:
Sharing Boots:
Pulls out a boot from hammerspace and throws it at the opponent. Comparable to Mr. G&W's Chef and Peach's Vegetable. Short range, damage depends on the kind of boot pulled out. Softest is tabi, hardest is deep-sea diver boot.

Side B:
Boot Kick:
Rick charges up a kick (with a lot of effort) which deals hard damage if charged up successfully. Holding the button for too long or too little results in a much weaker kick.

Down B:
Snack Time:
Pulls out a random snack from his jacket pocket and begins eating. If allowed to finish eating (takes 2-3 seconds), he recovers 1-2% damage.

Up B:
Rocket Boots:
Rick quickly straps on a pair of (totally not stolen) silver rocket boots which charge up shortly (similar to Diddy Kong's Rocketbarrel Boost) and damage anything under them with fire.

Standard attack moves:

Neutral A:
A: Right hand slap.
A, A: Left hand slap.
A, A, A: Several slaps and then a right punch.

Side tilt + A:
Drops his body weight on the opponent.

Down tilt + A:
Kicks the opponent.

Up tilt + A:
Hits upwards with both pointing fingers?

Smash Attacks:

Side Smash:
Charges up one fist and lets out an amazingly strong...slap? Oh well.

Down Smash:
Takes a hard stomp on the ground with both feet. Opponents can randomly become buried in the ground if charged for long.

Rick pulls his fists close to his chest and throws both of them in the air.


Aerial Attacks:

Neutral air: Flails his limbs outwards.

Front Air: Headbutts lightly.

Back Air: Drops his weight on his back.

Attempts to grab opponent with a single paw, holding them in a hug.

Dash Z:
Runs to the opponent and holds on to their legs.

Pushes opponent away weakly.

Really noobish suplex. Chance to hurt himself in the process.

Down throw:
Trips opponent and falls on top of them.

Up throw:
Brings opponent into a hug and lifts them into the air.

Final Smash:
Beastly Rick:
Rick grows large, his hair growing out and his clothes ripping off him (a la Giga Mac), lashing out angrily with huge sloth-like claws at whoever is within range. Player cannot control him for about 5 seconds as he rages automatically against other opponents. When it ends, he somehow has his clothes back on.

Taunts:

Up Taunt: He holds up a random boot up in the air, triumphantly.

Side Taunt: He pulls out his wallet and flaunts his disposable income (for boots) at others.

Down Taunt: He falls over backwards in purpose, damaging whoever is in range for 1%. Jumps up afterwards.

Dizzy animation:
Holds his head and mouth, as if trying not to throw up.

Sleep animation:
Curls up like a dog, with his tail over him.

Special Flag animation:
Puts the flag on his head, attempting to balance it.

Superspicy Curry animation:
Stands in place with his mouth open and eyes clenched shut, frozen in pain.

Victory animation 1:
Rick is sitting on top of a short pile of boots, smirking confidently.

Victory animation 2:
He's taken aback by the news of his victory, looking confused, then shrugging.

Victory animation 3:
Holds up a random pair of boots (one in each hand) and says: "You can still have these!"

There ya go! Rick is yet another joke character!

You know what? It's kinda funny. Back in 2008, when I first got into furry stuff, I said that one day, I would go to Anthrocon as my first furry con. But it was pretty unrealistic back then, so I said that maybe in 10 years it could happen. And here we are. It's not exactly my first furry con, but it's certainly my first AC! Okay, I was actually too busy to think up/implement one. To be fair, I don't think I would have come up with anything cool or gimmicky enough. I pretty much used to shoot my better jokes on Facebook, but considering I lost my account last year, my need to impress others with well thought jokes has diminished greatly. Instead, I now prefer to talk one-on-one with others about anything! Still social, just not in a wide scope.

Anyhoo, I was pretty much missing the last week and a half because I took some vacations with the boys,  zhane3 and  KonanWolfpard, featuring a guest appearance from  Radx26, who joined us briefly. I had lots of fun just fooling around and enjoying myself away from home.
