Shading #65 stream
General | Posted 2 years agoIt's been a while since I posted a page. Guess I'll finish it up so I can post it. Hopefully I don't forget to shade the eyes or feet this time.

Sketching the next species soon
General | Posted 2 years agoStarting in about 5 minutes, got to bring in the laundry first. I feel like I'm more focused working in the late afternoon and evening. Though it also might be that I start overthinking when it's the middle of the day and I feel like I've got plenty of time left.
So. Stream starts at 4:15 Eastern Time, at https://picarto.tv/Rimme . Going to be drawing an avian race for jackthelizard 's world. See you there!

Coloring #65 and movie stream
General | Posted 2 years agoAt https://picarto.tv/Rimme
Watching a movie over Discord as well as drawing, a Norwegian kid's movie with lots of mice characters. Seems basically a Grasshopper and Ants story. It's cute.
Edit: Didn't feel right to stream it. Sorry.

General | Posted 2 years agoBack to shading/cleaning up the Sem species
General | Posted 2 years agoMore sketching
General | Posted 2 years agoHad a bit of a headache yesterday, so didn't stream (I tried to, but it only lasted a couple minutes). So I'm back to streaming my dog TF drawings.

Shading's temperament is a mix
General | Posted 2 years agoIt's a mistake to assume every grouping of four can be matched to Galen's temperaments.
Sketching is sanguine, quick on its feet and focused on the flow of dialogue, the personality, the framing, the storytelling.
Inking is melancholic, hyperfocused on distilling the sketchy flurry of lines into precise efficient boundaries.
Coloring is... well, more of a mix of melancholic and phlegmatic. If the lighting and setting is the same as before, you can just take the colors off the previous map, making sure you're picking off the same layer (or are somehow carrying around an unshaded copy of the current palette, like a pro). It's more mechanical than analytical or social.
Shading is more of the same, maybe even with choleric added in. If you're going for realism, you've got a lot of light sources to keep track off. Technically, everything that isn't black is a light source, it's just that the bright sources have stronger boundaries, while the walls and floor all wash each other out, and more or less define the base color you see to begin with.
Shading is what I'm doing now, at https://picarto.tv/Rimme . Finishing up #64. What a day it's been.

Coloring now
General | Posted 2 years agoOnly so much time to spend in a hour. There's only so much activity that can be compressed into a minute.
Time to work now. Gotta finish coloring #64 now before 9 PM.

Comic inking
General | Posted 2 years agoInking now. I have 14 figures and 4 simple backgrounds, and I'll be keeping track of how long each one takes. My current estimate is that "half-figures" will take me 20 minutes to ink, and full-figures 45. Only 3 of them qualify as full-figures, so it should take (11 + 4) * 20 + 3 * 45 = 495 minutes = 8.25 hours.
This actually seems awfully long, as I still managed to get the sketch done quickly. Hence, the timing aspect. It does seem unlikely that I will finish it all in one night. I'll see how it goes.

General | Posted 2 years agoStreaming mustelid anthro inking
General | Posted 2 years agoMore inks today, this time of the Sem race made by my boyfriend
jackthelizard for a world he's constructing. They're a mustelid race inspired by wolverines and binturongs (which are viverrids instead of mustelids, but ).
Once that's done, maybe around 4 PM Eastern, I'll shift to coloring in the beaver TF comic. That should take until 7 PM Eastern, and leave me with a couple of hours of free time to relax.

Inking beaver TF now
General | Posted 2 years agoThis next sequence is something I've been making in my own time during the last semester, and was one of the things I'd hoped to finish over the summer, until the seal sequence took over in the last couple months. It's as lovingly indulgent to my TF preferences as can be, without going full adult. It's already been sketched out (mostly), and half of it is inked.
Hmmm, so I have 7-7.5 figures to ink left in this half-drawn sequence, depending on the conversion rate from buildings to figures (it is a very imprecise science). Going by about 45 minutes to ink 1 figure, that yields roughly 5.5 hours of inking time. I have 3 hours, so I should be able to draw 4 figures (who says math isn't useful for artists?), and leave the remaining 3.5 figures for tomorrow.
A lot of my TF stuff lately has been pretty bleh, emotionless, lacking in sensuality. This sequence is a step back in the right path. I just love dialog changes in TF...

Streaming - Coloring a ref sheet tonight
General | Posted 2 years agoHeh, FA was off and on yesterday, so I didn't post a streaming journal, even though I did stream and draw.
Tonight I'm continuing the drawing I worked on yesterday, which is an old ref sheet for my gryphon OC Nick. And if I have time, finishing up another drawing of him.

Been working all day on this comic... finishing it tonigh...
General | Posted 2 years agoUgh, so I've been off-and-on working on this comic and trying to finish it, I guess it's time to post a journal saying my "evening stream" is up, even though this has been an all-day thing.
I've been doing this drawing thing for months now, always trying to push out things both "good" and "on time". But time is an objective measure, and quality subjective... so even though I follow the same method for finishing a work, I feel like I've gotten lazier or shoddier with each stage, trying to do more work, or getting distracted and doing less work, all in the same amount of time between works. And I'm really feeling it come through in my comic right now. Each time I look at it, I see more and more things to polish up, dragging me down and slowing me down.
I've been in a writing mood all day. Also, a very game-design mood all day. No matter how much I try, my mind keeps going back to an idea I had this morning for a text adventure TF. It's not helped by my knowing that tomorrow, the mood will be gone, and it'll be stuck as another scrapped idea to put aside to focus on drawing. That queue at the bottom, that's what I have to focus on. That's where my time has to go. Responsibilities and commitments. Settle down, excitable weasel brain. Focus.
So... the one thing that helps with focus is my streaming, since it puts so much attention on me, and forces me to go forward. So... here's the link:
https://picarto.tv/Rimme
I'll be going until 9 PM Eastern. I've set a goal for myself to always end the stream by that time. I think I can finish shading by then.
Keep going, weasel. Stay strong, weasel.

Oh and I made sure to fix the links everywhere to my commission info page. See here for details. Commissions are open and prices are cheap (so I'm told), so don't be shy to message me with info!

Commissions open
General | Posted 2 years agoI've updated and reinstated my TOS and prices journal as my featured journal. I've simplified the prices to make them hopefully easier to understand. They're roughly in the same ballpark as usual, so feel free to look them over if you're interested.
It takes a while for me to do this maintenance stuff, and also figure out what my scheduling is like, which is why I fell behind on updating the queue. I've brought that back in the footer, so that you know what I'll be up to during the next few streams. Weekday streams will be starting at 6 PM from now on.
I am streaming today at https://picarto.tv/Rimme! Inking the next AFCAH page. No TF at the moment, and mostly humans. I'll be streaming until 9 PM Eastern.

Taking a breath
General | Posted 2 years agoNo stream tonight. I'm doing laundry like I should have done over the weekend, and I'm taking some time to relax a bit.
It's not that going to a waterpark on Sunday wasn't fun (aside from the one ride I most wanted to ride being closed)... it just came with a lot of baggage to carry on Monday and much of Tuesday. On my foot and back.
Things have been pretty hectic over the last few days, and this is a good time to take a breath. Too bad I'm not going to Anthrocon. My summer plans were very undecided back in the spring, and besides, it's no fun going alone. I might be able to go to MFF for a single day for the TF panels, but that'll be all this year.
Next year, perhaps, I'll be able to experience a convention again as normal.

Ref sheet sketching
General | Posted 2 years agoIt's hard to focus now. Boyfriend just had a major blow to his plans for the next year. I'm doing my best to support him for now. I won't be around to stream next work; I've got one stream tonight, and I've got laundry to do tomorrow so I can head down and see him next week. So... this will be the last stream until then.
I'm at https://picarto.tv/Rimme, sketching out a ref sheet for an original anthro mustelid species of his. I'm also setting a hard cutoff time of 9 PM from now on; no more 4+ hour streams for me. For now, I'm just trying to stay relaxed for the both of us.

Inking (EDIT: giraffe TF) now
General | Posted 2 years agoNeeded to eat fast before starting this. Got to hurry, but also stay confident and do it well.
(And even all day at work I've been tweaking the dialogue for this in my head, gah! This and the next page are such critical pages for pinning down everyone's motivations!)
https://picarto.tv/Rimme
EDIT: Ooh, someone commissioned me before 6:30 PM, so now it's a giraffe TF commission stream. Reminder that commissions are open, through PM or in-stream, as long as payment goes through! Fast and convenient!

Sketching now -- #63
General | Posted 2 years agoI had lots of fun yesterday, but it came at the cost of an aching foot, burning skin, sore muscles, and not enough sleep. Still, despite my ravenous hunger and a long line at the supermarket, I'm doing the sketch stream for the next page of my webcomic.
