NH Movie Meet: HTTYD2 @ Milford Drive-In (INPUT NEEDED!)
Posted 11 years agoSo I've been going to the movies at the Milford Drive-In lately since the weather got nice, and I've been really enjoying myself.
My friends that I have been going with enjoy it a lot, and I'm planning to host a meet for one of these nights!
I'm thinking of doing a meet for How To Train Your Dragon 2 on the opening weekend. The drive-in should be showing it on opening day, so Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are days we could go.
I need INPUT from interested local furs as to what day would work best! Please respond to this journal and tell me your availability!
- It is $25 per car for 2 movies. I don't know what the other movie will be.
You may leave halfway through, but there is no free re-entry.
- If your car has more than 6 people, it's $5 extra per person.
(Though if we arrange it correctly, and disperse people throughout cars evenly, we probably won't run into this.)
- The best way to go is obviously to carpool, to get the best value for each person.
- You can bring your own food and drinks (though they do not allow alcohol beverages or grilling food), or buy food from the refreshment stand, which actually has better prices than regular movie theaters concession stands.
I normally bring a cooler full of ice, waters, sodas, and juice, and buy chicken tenders and fries from the refreshment stand.
- The movies start at around sunset (which will be at 8:20-ish that weekend).
I always try to get there early to find a good spot to park my car. I'd suggest everybody try to be there around 7:30 PM so we can mingle beforehand and make sure we can all find each other.
- The second movie usually ends around 1AM (at least in my experience in going there).
- I'm not sure if this venue will be fursuit-friendly, however I'm guessing they're fine with it since it's outdoors. (And maybe even a good idea, since fursuits are nice and warm, and this is at night! XD)
When it gets closer to the meet, I'll call up and ask if they're okay with face-covering costumes.
If you're available on a certain date, please let me know!
If needed, I could move the meet to a later weekend or something.

AnthroCon is a GO! Any tips for flying?

We're rooming together with 2 other furs, and we'll be getting there on Wednesday, July 2, and leaving Monday July 7.
I've never flown before and I'm excited!! :3 Is there anything I should know? Will they take care of my baggage if it has a fursuit in it? (I'm possibly going to finish my genet character partial suit before then, and would it be okay to check that in a flight?)
I'm so fucking excited. Holy crap.
My first AC, my first time to Pittsburgh, my first plane ride... My first completed partial fursuit possibly. If I can sit my ass down at Blarm's and freakin DOOOO ITTTT.
(Still taking name suggestions. I kind of wanted to name her Lig--pronounced "loch"--which is the Afrikaans word for "light" because I'm chunky and genets are supposed to be real slinky and stuff... But I feel like choosing something with a weird pronunciation isn't a great choice.)

Life updates, meets, con plans, etc.

~ School is hard. But I knew it would be. Recently I had a lot of back and arm pain from extended use of my muscles in class and for homework. I got a massage last week and I'm taking my arm and back easy for the moment, but it's putting me behind on my homework. So I have to figure out how to deal with that.
~ I've started playing Minecraft, and I'm addicted. Anybody host any cool servers I should check out?? :D
~ I'm drawing furry stuff again, and trying to get back into the swing of doing furry art. I'll be uploading things here and on my Weasyl account (same name as here: Rivkah). Though I haven't been using my art blog (kitty-doodles @ tumblr), I'm tempted to re-start using it. But I have kind of grown away from tumblr--it seems like SUCH a time-suck for me. So I'm torn.
~ Starting to garden with my mom. I'm SO FREAKING HAPPY that it's spring. (Spring and autumn are my favorite seasons, and I don't especially like winter or summer...) I'm so excited that I can go outside without having to make the decision between wearing a bazillions layers of uncomfortable clothes or being freezing.
Meets:
I will be still hosting a diner meet on some Sunday in the near future!
This weekend, of course, is the Spring Fling potluck in Nashua which I will be attending, so I won't put my meet the day after that. The week after (or possibly two weeks after) this weekend I will be spending the weekend in New Jersey visiting family, so whichever weekend it ends up being, I will not host the meet then.
Con plans:
AC is a go!
I'm finding room space still, but the good news is that I have lots of leads on that. I have many friends who are going and such. Some of them need roommates still, so I'm lucky in that sense. Hah.
FA:U is a go.
Rooming with nightlinez, sixxxshot, and jovo as far as I know.
Furpocalypse is a go.
It's a super-close con (about two hours away) plus I remember FurFright was pretty cool. So I plan on doing that.
I'm not sure if I'm going to be taking a friend up on her room offer, or if I'm going to be getting a room myself yet.
MFF is up in the air.
I'm not sure if I am going to be doing MFF because of it interfering with my studies that I might have in the fall. I'm not sure what's happening in the fall yet with school, but I definitely want to go to MFF in the future. Maybe I'll attend in a year or two if it doesn't work out this year.
Anthro New England is almost certainly a go.

Posted 11 years agoI'm thinking about trying to go to AnthroCon instead of Midwest FurFest this year because of my school schedule in the fall.
I'm not sure when my classes will be, so I want to maybe go to AC instead so i don't miss a bunch of class time while traveling out to Chicago (which I would do driving out earlier in the week so I could have some rest time) and traveling back to New England afterward.
I'm hoping someone has an extra spot in a hotel room at AC.
But if I can't get a spot, then I'll probably hold off and try to figure out how to deal with missing a little bit of school in the fall so I can attend MFF. I'm just so scared of being too drained to do anything productive once I get back from driving halfway across the country...
I'm having a friend look into if I can room with them and their roommates. But if that doesn't work out, I'm looking for other options.

So I'm trying to set up a meet in the near future.
This journal is to gauge interest and what time would work best for people to attend.
So, my idea was a little Denny's meet in Salem, NH (or something similar if anybody else has other ideas).
I would want this to happen on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, sometime in the evening (maybe around 7 PM?). PLEASE chime in with what you'd be interested in doing!!
Just reply to this journal with an idea of your availability if you're interested in attending. Feel free to suggest other somewhat inexpensive restaurants that you'd prefer also. Denny's isn't the only option.

Follow me over there for more updates than I will put here. I personally like the UI and the way the site was set up in general (specifically the folders and collections options).
I've been on FA for like 7 years now, since I was 16. I've grown a lot in those years, gone through hiatuses, improved my art work, gone through hard times and good times, made some incredible friends, gotten involved with the local furry community through meets and such. I'm not leaving FA completely, but I am switching the majority of my involvement within the furry art community over to Weasyl.
I'm not going to go into a big critique of this site. But I'm basically choosing a different art site over an old, outdated art site which doesn't do the things I want it to, whose downtime and outages are very frequent, and whose staff have been promising change for years with no actual changes made (remember the way how a year ago they said the way the banner system and site template were going to be completely different within a few months?).
Leave your Weasyl accounts as well.
Update about school!
Started classes. I'm doing only Drawing I right now because 2D Design was filled up. (Though, to be honest, Drawing I was also filled up, but they added another class of it to accommodate everyone who was signing up.) Things are going okay. The homework's taking a LOT longer than I had expected, but my parents are reminding me that this is something really new to me, and it'd be perfectly normal for me to go a little slower than the students who are in their second semester. That's a thing I should definitely try to remember. Not to get too anxious about how long it's taking me. Or at least, not to get too frustrated about it.
I'm hoping I can eventually get a degree, but I'm taking it one step at a time now.
New baby!
Well, cold-blooded slithering baby. My Instagram is filled up with pics of my new ball python, Stella. :) I love her like crazy, and after about 8 years of wanting a snake, I finally was able to get one.

Art School
Posted 12 years agoI'm going to be starting school again.
Or, at least, I'll be getting my toes wet, and taking it gently, at a pace that will be reasonable for me.
The school I'm going to go to is the school I've had my eye on since senior year in high school, four or five years ago.
I was considering going there right after high school, but some... I don't know quite how to say it--mental health issues?--no, that's not right--emotional hiccups/road blocks?--I don't know... Anyway, because of those, I kind of put that dream on hold for a while.
It's a program where I can go and take the classes, and learn and experience the school environment again. I'm going to be taking 1 or 2 classes at a time. Later on, if I decide to go for a BFA (which at this point in my life seems like a HUGE, SCARY thing that I don't want to jump into and commit to), I can put those classes' credits toward that.
For starting up, I'll be taking the Photographic Media class and either Drawing or 2D Design.
Or, at least, I'll be getting my toes wet, and taking it gently, at a pace that will be reasonable for me.

Later on, if I decide to go for a BFA (which at this point in my life seems like a HUGE, SCARY thing that I don't want to jump into and commit to), I can put those classes' credits toward that.

General update about things, life, jobs, FA, and STUFF.
Posted 12 years agoSo I'm currently mostly inactive on FA. It makes me depressed a lot, particularly in the way that I'm not where I would like to be in my art, and in the way that I see people having a blast at cons, and I wish I was there. In particular, AC and FF hit me pretty hard, in seeing all the people who were there and having a great time. I'm too sensitive.
Currently I'm looking into art school for a photo program. Nothing set in stone, and it's very anxiety-inducing (school was the bane of my existence for a very long time), but I'm thinking about it and that's the first step.
Also, I'm looking for employment. First seasonal employment in retail at first (maybe the place that I was hired a couple years ago and LOVED working at)... and then after the 10th of next month, I'll have TIPS certification (I already have my bartenders certification) so I can get a bartending job.

Posted 12 years agoMy friend who noticed I posted a lot of furry/fursuit pics and stuff on facebook asked me if I could find someone to make her a plush commission.
What she wants is an Eevee (Pokemon) plushie.
She wants it around 15 inches, kinda realistic (I think she meant accurate to the Pokemon species?), weighted (so it's relatively heavy), and made using very long, fluffy fur.
So, can anybody recommend any plush makers who could definitely do this justice?

Stuff, commissions, my shortcomings, etc.

I owe at least 2 people commissions, and a few trades, and I have no excuse for myself and why I take so freaking long, other than procrastination, anxiety, and bumps in the road. Mostly procrastination/avoidance problems.
I'm pretty sure I shouldn't open for commissions anymore. If I feel like if I just stick to the occasional commission and art trades here and there, that'll work a lot better than taking on too many commissions and not being able to get them all done and just frustrating myself and everybody waiting for work from me.
What I will do in the future is only open for commissions occasionally, and only when I know I have the ability to get them finished within a week or so.
So. Here's my apology, to everybody... I know that I'm kind of flaky, and I try not to be, but my anxiety disorders get in the way in particular, and my own personal problems should probably be put aside when talking about commission work... Gah.

This is terrifying.
I live half an hour north of the city... and my mom went to visit my aunt (her sister) down near Plymouth... She went right through Boston a couple hours before the explosions.
Hearing that there are 2 definitely dead, and at least 68 patients in hospitals from the explosion... it's... I.. I don't even know what to say about it. It's just dreadful, and scary.

Brooke, our golden retriever...

So Brooke (my family's 10-and-a-half-year-old golden retriever) is pretty sick. She's got malignant tumors all around her lungs, apparently, and that's why she's been "coughing"/short of breath lately.
She's slowed down a lot recently. She's old, and it was a possibility that it was just dry air/the pellet stove that was making her cough... but my parents had the vet do an x-ray and my mom described it to me as looking like little "cotton balls all around her lungs" in the image.
It's cancer.
The cancer originated in another spot on her body, but they don't know where. And my parents decided not to do an ultrasound to figure it out, because, well, is there a point really? To treat her cancer would involve chemotherapy, and that's just NOT a quality of life that would be okay. She's old, and she's going to die soon... That's just how it is.
The vet found basically NOTHING else wrong with her though. The cancer wasn't affecting the functionality of Brooke's other organs that would show signs of being there in her blood work or anything. She was apparently a little anemic, but nothing serious.
The only thing wrong is she's taking shallower breaths now, and kind of coughing occasionally.
So. This is it...
It could be days, it could be weeks, it could be a few months. We don't know. If her quality of life gets affected, it'll be time to put her down. Currently, she's fine, just slower and taking shallower breaths. Not in pain or anything. Just... slower than she was before.
My mom said that she hopes she just passes away quietly in her sleep. I hope that too. I hope she goes painlessly, and that it doesn't get to the point where she's suffering and she has to get put down.
It's really hard for me to think about this. We've lost pets before. I've dealt with heartbreak many times over because of it. And it's always this hard.

It's adorabibble.
The rumors that each new starter will be dual-type, and each secondary type is going to have the reverse advantage over the other starters' secondary type... that's really cool.
I've been kind of wanting a 3DS too. So this kind of just sealed the deal. Before the end of this year, I should get one. Hah.
I'm tempted to be like "OMFG THE DESIGNS ARE GOING TO BE WORSE THAN THE GEARS AND TRASH BAGS AND ICE CREAM" but I'm pretty sure that the awesome designs from each new generation outweigh the shitty ones. I mean, this past generation, we got Woobat/Swoobat, Emolga, a bunch of awesome bird Pokémon, some cool new bugs (I really like Venipede/Whirlipede/Scoliopede), Litwick/Lampent/Chandelure (which some could argue are also in the "shitty designs" section but I really liked 'em) and a bunch of other ones that was good. So like. Yeah. I guess I really am excited about the new Pokémon games. ABALskdnflakfsbfsasdf

I don't even remember.

No.

Selling things on eBay and stuff. Otherwise, just keeping an eye out for jobs. I haven't heard back from that place I most recently applied to... so I'm guessing they didn't want me. I'll stop in again later this week though to find out or whatever.

No, but Charlie had to go the ER for a broken finger after jumping off a rope swing into a river (that was fun).

I had to call police recently to file an accident report when some lady hit me from behind in a traffic circle.

No. I'd rather not relive things. I'd rather live in the present.

Yeah, a person I went to middle school with got married.

No.
4) How did you earn your money?
Selling things on eBay and stuff. Otherwise, just keeping an eye out for jobs. I haven't heard back from that place I most recently applied to... so I'm guessing they didn't want me. I'll stop in again later this week though to find out or whatever.
5) Did you have to go to the hospital?
No, but Charlie had to go the ER for a broken finger after jumping off a rope swing into a river (that was fun).
6) Did you have any encounters with the police?
I had to call police recently to file an accident report when some lady hit me from behind in a traffic circle.
7) Would you relive 2012 over and over again?
No. I'd rather not relive things. I'd rather live in the present.

I don't know. Groceries?

Yeah, a person I went to middle school with got married.

Unfortunately, yes. Charlie's "Grampy" recently passed away after years of being really sick. He's in a better place now, I'm sure. At least he's no longer suffering. RIP.

LOL ALL OF MY FACEBOOK FRIENDS?? Chicks who I went to school with. I'm sure some of them had their kids this year, though the one that I can think of who is still pregnant hasn't had it yet. Idfk.

No.
13) What concerts/shows did you go to?
Oh lots. Lots of local neo-psychedelic/folk/indie shows. Doing lights for some of them. As for more well-known bands, I went to the Suburban Legends, Big D & the Kids Table, Reel Big Fish, and Goldfinger concert earlier this year I think?

Yup. For the first time in my life. The last presidential election was a month before I turned 18.

No...

Northeastern Massachusetts.

Nothing huge or important. Went out to dinner with Char and a couple other friends. I just keep forgetting that I'm 22 now.

Start working with the light show, helping out with the liquid projections!

I've really got to exercise more. I think I'm happier and such when I have a healthier lifestyle. Endorphins man.
