!!WE HAVE MOVED!!
Posted 13 years agoHey you guys, we've decided to change the group's name/group account. This is because we (Harley and I, with Jen's advice) believe that the title of the group is a bit exclusive.
We also believe it would be nice to have a fresh start on a group. This one has, sadly, died off. There has been less and less interest in it, and then life caught up with the mods and we couldn't really keep track of it.
So, this account will be cleaned out (unless there is objection!), and we will have moved house to
540-Furs!
Thank all of you for making RoaVaFurs worth while. We hope to see you all over at 540-Furs!

We're kind of concerned.
Posted 14 years agoTye and i are somewhat concerned about the future of roavafurs. It seems every meet has had fewer and fewer responses until today was no one. It's just worrying us because with the lack of response comes lack of activities. We can't eventually put money into some sort of meet with no response, you know? We need some sort of feedback, even if it's negative so we can at least know who is definitely not coming.
If lack of activity continues, RoaVAfurs might have to go on an indefinite hiatus. We're not trying to make anybody feel bad, though! Everyone take care of yourselves first, but i think we should at least keep in touch.
If any of you want/need my cell number, note me at
fleabeast so we can keep in touch outside of the internet.

Salem Fair Meetup!
Posted 14 years agoHey guys, it's Spazz and Harley! We have a new meetup planned for the 2nd of July at the Salem Fair. c: We wont get sick on you guys this time either!
Where: Salem Fairgrounds - Next to the Salem Civic Center.
When: July 2nd, 1:30 PM to whenever you want.
Admission: It's $17.00 for the wristband that lasts from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and $29.00 for the wristband that lasts from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM. You can purchase whichever one you think you're going to need.
It is an open gate fair, which means you can go into the fairground without having to pay anything. The wristbands mean unlimited rides, and are a lot cheaper than purchasing roles of tickets.
We are also under the impression that it is suit-friendly. So bring your suits! But be aware that there is very little shade outside of the civic center.
Harley and I wont be staying past 5:00, being able to ride anything anyway. If you all would like to go somewhere for eats, then we can plan something when we get there. c:

Lack of interest, we've postponed meet to the salem fair
Posted 14 years ago
Due to lack of interest. the meet-up has been postponed to July 2nd, which is during the salem fair. I feel we kind of sprung this meet a little too early also, and i wanted to give you all an opportunity to discuss this idea.
Feedback is GREATLY appreciated! again, my apologies for the inconvenience.
I would also like to point out that for those of you that want to meet but are tied down to certain schedules, we can always organize smaller get-togethers for different days to accomodate that :3
The meet-up will be the 18th
Posted 14 years agoThe meet up in the previous journal is scheduled for the 18th :)
Scruffy leaves this saturday! Goingaway lunch THIS THURSDAY!
Posted 14 years ago
Time: 5:30 PM,
Address: 1441 Towne Square Boulevard, Roanoke VA.
Golden corral is not fursuit-friendly, sadly :C however, there are several parks nearby we could go to suit, if anyone wants to!
Also, please check out our previous journal about the next meet-ups! We ARE having a meet-up either THIS weekend or next, so we need input on which weekend is best for everyone!

New Meet + Salem Fair
Posted 14 years agoHey guys, it's SpazzticGlitch and Fleabeast!
What we were thinking is that next weekend, or the weekend after, is that we could have a meet at the Mill Mountain Zoo.
Date: This is up to you. Either June 11th, or June 18th. Leave in the comments which date would be better for you guys.
Time: 1:00 PM to 4:30 (at the latest, since that's when the Zoo closes)
Admission: $7.50 for adults, if you're bringing children up the age 11 their admission is $5.00.
Directions: http://www.mmzoo.org/tabid/108/Default.aspx
Sadly, fursuits are NOT welcome in the Zoo. It could disturb the animals.
Afterward, do you guys want to have a picnic over by The Star, or go to Macado's/CiCi's Pizza? We expect it to be somewhat hot outside so take that into consideration. We can fursuit at The Star, and possibly at Macado's as well (we're going to call and ask), CiCi's Pizza has also welcomed us back with suits anytime.
Also!
The Salem Fair is from June 30th through July 10th, who would be interested in a meetup sometime during that period? Let us know!

Salem, Virginia: Car Show-May 7th, 2011 12:30 PM
Posted 14 years agoHey guys,
jenesri here!
Sorry for the inactivity lately. I've been really busy lately. I have been visiting Richmond a lot recently--and also trying to work my way back into school.
So--You guys are welcomed to start any event as you see fit. Just post it in the shout or whatever. I will try my best to get it up.
I will let you know! Flits and I will be at the Salem Civic Center this weekend, May 7th for the car show. We'll be volunteering. If you want to come and join us with hugging some kids and supporting the local charities! We're going to be in fursuits, we're going to be hugging a lot of people and taking a lot of pictures with the cars. But remember! NO TOUCHING THE CARS!
As for anything on the list--I don't think I have any. Again, I am sorry that I am not doing my job--but I don't have a lot of time to do much of anything other than volunteering, working and school.
So--if you have any ideas, post them in this journal or in the shout-outs!
Thanks guys!

MEET UP ON SATURDAY? WHAT WHAAAT?
Posted 14 years agoHey guys this is
Scruffy here to fill you in on Saturday!
You read right, we're planning another event, yaay! This one is for Saturday, January 8th! Yes, that is this Saturday, the notice is a little short, but hey, you should have expected it! It's the second Saturday of the month!
Okay, event details. We'll be meeting up at Star City Skate Center (the same one we went to for the last skating meet) at 1:30. If you weren't at the first skating meet, the website is here => http://starcityskatecenter.net/About.htm if you wanna check out anything about it. It IS fursuit friendly to any of you suiters! We won't be getting the room this time however, due to short notice and funds. Also, we may be going out to eat afterward. Actually, we probably will be going out to eat afterward (at least Harley, Tye and I probably will be, anyone who wants to join in, feel free to!)
Admission to the skate center on Saturdays is $5, and skate rentals are $2, so I would say a safe amount of money to bring (if you're planning on coming, skating, and then going out to eat) would be somewhere in the twenty five to thirty dollar range if you are paying for one person.
So, drop a comment if you think you can make it so we can get an initial headcount!

ALRIGHT, NEW YEARS!
Posted 14 years agofirst off, happy holidays everyone :) hope you all had a great day and are all safe at home from the snow.
Second, i think that it would be good to meet around 2? sound fair to everyone? i know some of you won't be able to meet until late, so i'm gonna go ahead and say that we don't have an official "end time" for this meet (seeing it IS new years!). i MIGHT not be able to meet up with the gang until shortly after 5 depending on work :C i'm going to try my best though.
i figured meet up could be something simple...inside tanglewood is a small lounge area with some sofas and a carpet (it's on the right side of the mall, near the music store and applebees). want to all meet there? obviously we can't be in suit in there, but we can find somewhere from there to suit up :) this is more a just "okay, we're all here now" thing to get everyone grouped up.
from there, we (or you all, until i'm off work) can decide what to do from there. i thnk it's supposed to be in the mid 50's this friday so weather may be permitting for some sort of outdoor event :3
sound fun to you all?

OKAY SO HERE'S THE DEAL ON NEW YEAR'S
Posted 14 years agodue to a resounding interest in the new year's thing, i think we should definitely get together. i know we got some out-of-towners coming in, so i wanna get down right now what time would be good for all of you? new year's festivities don't normally start until late but i know some of you guys can't be staying late and whatnot, especially if christmas brings us inclimate weather.
also, not sure if there are fireworks or not, so are there any suggestions on what you guys would want to do? it being kinda freezing outside, i figured we're limited to temperature, so all i've got so far is eating out and maybe a stroll to the mall/walmart/somewhere for us all to hang out, unless you guys can stomach a park. that DOES, however, limit suiting, so PLEASE toss me some ideas on where we could suit (or if you all just want to deal with the cold, in which i am totally cool with that)
thanks, and happy holidays <3

RoaVaFurs, want to meet for new years?
Posted 14 years ago
ANYWAY! i noticed we don't really have a new years plans because things are so hectic. my question for you guys: do you WANT to have a new years meet? it doesn't have to be anything big; right now i'm just thinking similar to our first meet. eating somewhere, then we can all hang at a park or somewhere else furry-friendly (i'll be checking around for some good places!)
but i wanna know if you guys WANT to get together, first. lemme know <3 if you want, note me on psychweasel 'cause i check that a little more often.
EDIT: right now we're looking at meeting on new years day for a fireworks thing in roanoke. anyone know anything about this? i'm not exactly sue where it is.
End of Year Event is Cancelled? Look forward in March.
Posted 14 years agoHello everyone. Happy Holidays and Sick Season to you.
Unfortunately, I,
jenesri some holiday stress as taken it's toll on me and has gotten sick off and on in the past couple of weeks. Due to certain events within my life and whatnot. I have to either have an alternate option for the New Year's Eve event or have to cancel it.
At the most recent events, I have to move out of my apartment before Jan. 3rd. Which would mean if I held an event, it would be at my apartment and in the morning or anytime after I would have to ask for assistants in moving. (Yes, I know some of you has already said they were willing to help.)
I am sorry for the sudden change in the events for the end of the year. I hope things are smooth sailing once I return to a stable home. Please let me know if you wish to create an event with your furs within your area, I will be happy to post it here.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
Next Event is March! Please look forward in the next event.
We are currently a group on Facebook! If you are interested please let us know, we'd love to get you in.
We are also on pounced.org, ifpl, and youtube!
We need an anthem and an official banner.
Lyrics too... Heh.
I know we have some artists in our group: both musician and artistic. I would love to create something like this for the youtube video and also our future events: Parade, Conventions and what not!
Anthem:
gravesidemanner [Awesome Song BTW]
Banner:
phoenixfire21 's friend.
If you are unable to do anything like that, you are creative in writing. Please if you remember any of our events, and would like to create a short story to post it on here. Reflection pieces are a great! Remember the first time you came to a RoaVaFurs event?
And if you don't have that, donations--would be greatly accepted, I counted over three hundred dollars($300) spent on this group since August, it doesn't run itself. If you would like to donate, please note
jenesri or this account.
DONATIONS ARE AWESOME!
We are creating a podcast, it will be active by February of next year. If you are interested in joining in on the fun, let us know. :3
Donations for equipment would be great. We need a mic--bad.
Creating your own event!
If you were at our last meeting, I did sum it up with, "If you had the chance to create your own furmeet, what would you do?"
1. Location, Location, Location!
2. Time of Meeting: Start and End!
3. Money required!
4. Interesting Information!
Please consider the event times that we already have created for the year. We will NOT be planning during Fur Conventions that any RoaVaFurs might be attending in the next coming year!
Questions:
1. If you want to hold the event for New Year's, where are you going?
2. Would you invite your furry friends?
3. What do you expect from RoaVaFurs next year?

I just got some information about the New Year's Eve Party; we have to know how many people are going to come! Yes, we need you guys to respond to this post.
Lee-Hi Lanes
Reservations 60$ Per Lane
Six people per lane
From: 9PM-2AM
We need to know if people are coming want to play. We will like to know. Seriously--you will have to pay for your share. Also make all the arrangements that you need to.
If a lot of people don't wish to do this, we can go to Turtles' aka

OR you might have a better idea and we might do that. Make sure that it is fursuit friendly and accepted for people from 16 years of age to 61 years old.
We are currently a group on Facebook! If you are interested please let us know, we'd love to get you in.
We are also on pounced.org, ifpl, and youtube!
Seeking Help!
Currently, we are looking for people to take on the responsibilities of client side information; dealing with posting pictures, videos, comments and notes.
We would like to ask everyone to send some information so I can work on a newsletter for the RoaVaFurs, through our Google Mail account. You will get monthly updates for events, questionnaires and coupons. Yes, coupons; I've discussed with some restaurants and some areas to get some. We would appreciate if you would do so in getting this information. If you are concerned about getting spam, don't be. We only post a newsletter once a month and friendly reminders for those wishing to attend the next event.
We are getting closer at the end of the year and the beginning of a new year. We are currently looking for more members and willing members to take on tasks; administration, media casts (podcast/youtube videos), chair members: President, Vice President and others.
We are looking for people that are willing to take on more tasks for me; I do a lot for the group and it is very hard to balance a full time job, my hobby and this group. I would not want to push this group aside and the fandom.
Please step up to the tasks! I use up my free time checking information and updating all the time!

We are looking for people to help out with this event, I have been trying to get more information about this, but I have been at work until six O'clock. If you would like to take it into your own hands, do so. Let me know what you need.

Yard Sale/Lawn Convention
Date: March 12. 2011 Time: Early 6:30 AM
Location: Jen's House
There is a time that you would like to get rid of some stuff that you don't need anymore. We're looking into fixing that. We want to get rid of some stuff too.
Start collecting some stuff that you can part with and hope you can make a pretty penny off of it. We will be doing a yard sale in
jenesri front yard, and will be holding a donation for Roanoke SPCA Animal Shelter during that time. People can donate some of their money that they earn, you aren't required to.
The Lawn Convention will be going on in the backyard of
jenesri house, we will be cooking out and having outdoors fun. It is a small house, so please be mindful.

Posted 15 years agoHello everyone! [Please read, thanks.]
It's
jenesri here, you would expect no less! Here is an update on some of the information I've previously posted. Especially with clarifying some ideas and celebrating some new found members to our FA page.
We are still looking for more members, bring your friends new or old to the fandom, if they aren't, we're still good clean fun. Socializing within our community of the Roanoke Valley is what we do. In the future, we will be moving out to other areas so we'll still be RoaVaFurs; such as going to Lynchburg or Richmond.
Welcome new and old members of RoaVaFurs! I hope you have fun and join in some simple activities, we might have on this page.
Good news everyone!
jenesri is on Facebook and wanting to create RoaVaFurs group. If you wish to create the group, please do so. We'll have a blast, no matter what! [Currently, seeking administrator for Facebook: RoaVaFurs Group.]
We are on pounced.org! So go and check us out.

You thought "I wasn't going to miss out on the last day." I did say in November that was our last event. Some people did mention that they would like to have an event in Roanoke. I thought about it, and then sure. We are going to have this as an optional event, especially with Mid-terms, Family and Weather.
This event is one of those you can miss. We are going to skate and be there until we want to leave. We are always welcomed in fursuit, ears, tails and all. We will NOT be getting a room this time, due to last time for recent complications.
Required: (On attending) Money, a ride, socks and willing to have fun.
Optional: New, unused Toy. (Donations for Toys for Tots of the Roanoke Valley.)

New Year's Eve Party: TBA
Lee-Hi Lanes, Salem, VA
We are looking for people to help out with this event, I have been trying to get more information about this, but I have been at work until six O'clock. If you would like to take it into your own hands, do so. Let me know what you need.

2. Out of town people need to make arrangements with other members for staying in Roanoke. ( I will be unable to house anyone, in the middle of a move.)

4. You are a representative of our group, be respectful of your group and people around you.
5. Need Money, Food, and Get Sleep!
We will be getting there late evening 31st, New Year's Eve, (I am working that day,) and staying up until one O'clock or later, New Year's Day, Saturday. We can make this a weekend event if you wish, consider people have lives and jobs.

It's

We are still looking for more members, bring your friends new or old to the fandom, if they aren't, we're still good clean fun. Socializing within our community of the Roanoke Valley is what we do. In the future, we will be moving out to other areas so we'll still be RoaVaFurs; such as going to Lynchburg or Richmond.
Welcome new and old members of RoaVaFurs! I hope you have fun and join in some simple activities, we might have on this page.

I am currently looking for people to write up a roster of current members, with e-mails address and phone numbers for contacts. We need to keep people informed and would like to make a mailing list for people that wish to come to our events on a regular basis. Yes, mailing list with pictures, coupons from local businesses (they are giving us some!)
As I noted on my main account, I would like to create a podcast/youtube channel. I would like to note that people would love to get questions and also comments about the fandom and what the 'RoaVaFurs' do for the fandom? I would be willing to get more than just myself on the cast; yes people will be invited to my house and get free food and chat over the air.

An awesome journal for an awesome year!
Posted 15 years agoHey guys,
romsca here to let you know that Nerf day was a HUGE success!
Not only did we have a few new people come, we broke our record for attendance! Not long before we break triple digits.
I'm going to go ahead and take the time to thank
jenesri parents for coming out to cook for all us hungry furs. That was really awesome of them and the food was amazing. I also want to extend that thanks to everyone else who came. Without you guys, none of this would have happened.
Unfortunately this was the last (Official) meeting for 2010, but
flits was tossing some ideas around for something in December, and
jenesri had said something about maybe possibly doing a New Years thing. Still in the embryonic stage, but we'll update as soon as we know something.
Also, if you guys get any ideas for some future meets, send us a note about it! We could definitely use the help coming up with things to do over the coming year.
Hope you guys have a wonderful rest of the year! It was awesome to meet you guys and I can't wait to do it again!

Hey guys!

I will let you guys be posted, because we might be doing a New Year's Event at the Lee-Hi Bowling Center!
Also I will be moving in January, so if anyone is willing to help, please send a note. I will supply pizza and drinks!
All right! Here goes posting!
Alright, now for the next item on our agenda, and the one everyone’s talking about…. It’s NERF DAY!!!!!
Date: November 13th
Time: 1:00 – 1:30pm
Where: Garst Mill Park
Who: EVERYONE!!!
You all know the drill- Tell all your friends and let us get some fur flying! It is gonna be an awesome, big bash BBQ and Nerf war! What better way to bring in the winter and holidays then with a party? Anyone wanting to participate in the Nerf war will need their own gun and ammo. Anything goes for Nerf weapons, from something simple to the biggest, baddest, monster you can find. Also, anyone who wants to is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, Frisbees, or anything else outdoorsy.
Menu time… Since we don’t want to have a million rolls, and no hot dogs, we will be using a sign up sheet. No more than two people can sign up for the same thing and you have to bring at least one of your chosen item; two if you can manage it. We love leftovers, hate shortages! Please post what you are bringing and once we have two people signed up for an item, we will take it off the list. Remember, you are buying for a group! :)
Menu:
Hot Dogs rolls
Mustard
Salad Dressing
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Cheese (provolone/swiss/cheddar)
Dip
ANYTHING ELSE FOOD WISE IS WELCOMED! IE: Potato Salad, Pasta Salad, Baked Beans, Mac and Cheese.
We need people to bring lawn chairs and trash bags to clean up after the event. Also a first aid kit wouldn't be too back either. The weather is going to be slightly sunny with high in mid-60s.
So bring a jacket and perhaps a blanket because you might get cold!

Jenesri
Hello once again my furry friends! I am so thrilled by our most recent, ground breaking meeting. Did you all know that we achieved our highest number of attendance thus far? Thanks to everyone’s support, and a few new guests, we had twenty-four people! For those who didn’t know, Vedo and his wonderful little girls were our guests this past event. I hope everyone got the chance to say hi to them, and make them feel welcomed.
Depending on the demand, we may look into doing something like this again in the future, either at Star City or another skating rink. :)

We have a lot of people with getting us chips, dip and drinks.
More lovely stuff!
So what is RoaVaFurs up to through the holidays? Let us take a sneak peek!
Due to the colder weather coming, possible snow, and the crazy holidays, we will be postponing any further meetings after November until likely February. Though depending on how you all feel and weather permitting, we can look into going bowling on January the 8th.
We will be holding a Secret Santa, with presents being passed out at our next meeting after the holidays. Rules for S.S. are as follows: Your gift can be anything from personal work, to gift cards, to a store bought item. Nothing over $20.00 permitted. If you really want to, you can mail your gift to the person. We are now taking sign ups for S.S. Names will be colleted and drawn from a hat and paired off. You will be notified of your “Secret Partner” by either myself or Jen.
The next meeting dates are…
February the 12th – Valentines Day meet <3 (red and pink theme)
March the 12th – Saint Patrick’s Day meet (green theme?)
April the 9th – That bunny just did what with that egg? Egg hunt *I will not be attending this meet* (Koorakaara would be on vacation!)
May the 14th – Yard sale and Lawn Convention! 10% proceeds donated to RVSPCA!
We have three people already signed up for the Secret Santa! Those people are: Jenesri, KooraKaara and Spazz. Please sign up; just note me!
If you want to make an event let me know! We will consider and will see if people like it!

We will be volunteering, which means we will not be needing to raise money or anything like that. They need the extra hands for helping out, so we will be willing to help. We will be gathering Downtown Roanoke, Elmwood Park around 12 O'clock. I think we should eat before we get there. Please let me know if you are interested!
This is tomorrow: Oct. 24th, 2010: 12:30 PM.
Also if you guys want to hang out the weekend of Halloween, please let me know. I would love to, we can figure out something to do. I have a company party for work on Saturday at Eight O'Clock. Note this account or

Menu:
Hot dogs (beef, turkey/chicken/pork)
Hamburgers (beef/turkey)
Hot Dogs rolls
Hamburger buns
Ketchup
Mustard
Salad Dressing
Salad
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Cheese (provolone/swiss/cheddar)
Dip
Plates/Cups/Napkins/Forks
