I've been thinking of changing my color
Posted 9 years agoYeah, I kinda reinvent my fursona a little after every failed relationship. And as much as I like pink, it's really always just been the color I chose in order to shake my fist at gender norms - and my character has enough of that by having a pouch.
I do feel like I've found the right shade of pink, but I've been considering replacing the pink outright with cyan, gray-blue, or brown. With cyan I could be mistaken for
mouse26 wearing a superhero mask and in brown I'd look an awful lot like
suel so I sometimes have a little misgiving about that.
But no matter what I do to my colors, I'm always going to be adorable and fabulous~

Birthday Incoming!
Posted 9 years agoAny mice or other tiny prey I missed who want to join my birthday party? Post in this journal with a reference image while it's still up (or send me a note if you want to surprise the other guests).
Thanksgiving Mouse Birthday Upcoming
Posted 9 years agoThat's right, my birthday is coming up in just nineteen days - the 24th falls right on Thanksgiving this year so I should probably draw a few pictures of my tiny mousey self getting lost in some Thanksgiving eats~
Moving again soon
Posted 9 years agoApparently after like a year and a half of telling his dance partner that he wasn't going to marry her, my grandpa decided to marry her about a month from now. Hopefully I can find some place where I can afford the rent that's still within walking distance of my current job.
I'm only 44% furry apparently

Two things I learned at last night's furmeet
Posted 9 years ago1) I "act like" a mouse anyway, making my choice of fursona really fitting, and
2) My tail glows under a blacklight.

Considering reopening my Pounced page...
Posted 9 years agoI'm not sure if it's a good idea or a bad idea - on the one hand, it's where I started my longest-standing romantic relationship to date, the girl who stayed with me until just last October
On the other hand, it's where I met my longest-lasting relationship to date, the final year of which consisted of her sucking off my money and trying to talk me out of coming to visit her in person while still insisting that she wanted to marry me
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Any arguments to try to convince me one way or the other? Other options to consider?

Older Journals
Posted 9 years agoI recently went to look back at some of my older journals, such as the ones announcing the start of my relationship with TFXWolf, getting my drivers' licence, the breakup journals, appendicitis, etc.
And they're not there anymore.
Thing is, these were significant events in my life that, even if traumatic, I don't remember purging from my page.

Tragic Passing
Posted 9 years agoMy long-time friend,
PlusleP, passed away recently after years of various injuries and illnesses. He was my best cuddle buddy in IRC, the only furry I ever recall buying me birthday presents (I was waiting for a chance to return the favor some day), and a dear brother in Christ.
He always had problems with drinking, various illegal drugs, texting while driving, and driving drunk. I was always relieved to find he hadn't hurt himself in some way between his visits to IRC. He had some more unsavory temptations he confided in me, which hopefully he has been spared from engaging in.
He always knew how to cheer people up and make them feel special. Never have I known a furry so affectionate as this Texan pokemon.
He will be sorely missed. I'll continue to run the channel he founded, as I have done during his extended trips to the hospital.

Micro May commences
Posted 9 years agoI fell and hurt my arm at work on Wednesday so I haven't drawn anything yet. Hopefully I can get some good suggestions and actually fill out the entire month's worth of art (I do like micro a lot more than macro, after all).
Also this month is going to have a Friday the 13th in it...which would've been my third anniversary with Katie if she'd stuck around. And good riddance!

Macro March Commences
Posted 9 years agoI didn't know about this last year or those preceding, but now I'm seriously considering trying to draw a macro picture every day for all of March.
I'm taking suggestions (but not necessarily requests) for ideas to play with the macro theme. I'll mostly be using my own fursona and generic characters.

Posted 9 years agoSeriously, it was already easy enough to intentionally block someone when you needed to so long as you aren't too lazy to get the full account name right. It was exactly as easy as it needed to be and no more.
Just a few seconds ago I almost accidentally +blocked an artist I wanted to +watch.

I might have overdone it a little
Posted 10 years agoI have maxed out my allotted number of gallery folders at 50; I was starting to try to make folders for characters by species group (canids, felines, rodents/bunnies, dragons, etc.) but only had room for one more folder so I added the one of the two remaining location categories I had ideas for.
So just so long as you aren't searching for a specific species, my gallery should be quite searchable now. I'm probably going to expand the "No Background" category a little to absorb the last location type I was thinking of using.
Merging the folders for art based on "GAMES I MADE" could be done if I somehow need more folders I'm unaware of in the future.
Also, if you include tanuki my gallery is slightly more than half drawings which include canids. Since 2011 was my most productive year and I had a canid fursona until 2013, this shouldn't be all too surprising.

Gallery analysis.
Posted 10 years agoI'm not entirely done with assigning and defining folders, but here's what I've got so far:
Total Submissions: 725
Pixel Art Submissions: 130
Note: This includes sprites from one of my games to stand in for ordinary people compared to a digitally drawn macro
Digital Drawings: 421
Note: This includes art made for me by others which, so far as I know, was all digital and no analog.
Hand-Drawn Art, Colored: 98
Note: This includes hand-drawn gift and request art I've received
Hand Lines, Digitally Colored: 29
Note: I personally believe this to be the category to contain the best percentage of my drawings I think are good. Includes art received from others that I believe to be drawn this way.
Writing: 46
Note: Includes comics and ref sheets where the real focus is on the words, pictures being there mostly as illustration. One of the 30 Day Challenge pictures is there because of the wordiness of the made-up sport in its description.
Sketchy: 24
Note: Visual art I consider to be less than complete, whether it's sketches, WIP versions of other pictures, or line art which was never colored in. A little surprised at how small this category is.
To do: Add a category for comics, a category for animation, a category for reference sheets, and maybe a category for gaming stuff.
Romance: 173
Note: My loose definition includes vore where I know the predator and prey are a couple and mutually willing even if this isn't necessarily made clear in the work itself.
Macro: 131
Self-explanatory
Micro: 175
Note: Considering double-counting sizeplay pictures where I'm uncertain what the "objective" scale is for the characters in both categories. Includes pictures of my various micro fursonas even when no other objects are present to determine relative size.
Vore: 88
Note: Smaller than I thought it'd be.
To do: Make more theme categories, possibly including one for reference-driven humor and one for NO EAT.
For Me, By Others: 58
Note: Thanks a lot, everyone!
For Others, By Me: 192
Note: Wow, I sure am generous. That's more than a quarter of my gallery! Both of these categories include trades, but this one never includes art I made for various love interests I've had.
To do: Add a category for "Sweethearts/Gal-Pals" and one for fan works.
2015: 71
2014: 77
2013: 74
2012: 130
2011: 366
Note: 2011 alone accounts for about half of my uploads, with an average higher than one per day. 2012 had better average quality but slowed to fewer than one piece every two days. The past three years I've put up about 70 new submissions per month.
Anyone else have anything to say about these analytics?

"Raffle" Winners and TMI Tuesday
Posted 10 years agoI got four people to enter the raffle I was considering doing. That's slightly more than 1% of my watchers, which is still a decent turnout. I will be drawing art for all four responders.
My birthday is a week from now. I have not drawn anything more than doodles on my drink cups/leftovers/to leave for the waittresses since finishing my 30 Day Challenge.
Any questions?

Hey, watchers! Anyone want art? (CLOSED)
Posted 10 years agoI've never done a raffle before, so I guess I'll just go for this:
I'm starting with five slots. If only five of my 300+ watchers want some free art then there's no point in rolling. If a significant portion of them want art, I'll increase the number of slots in a manner TBD.
Presuming (generously) I get enough entrants that rolling will be necessary, here's what you get for chances:
1 for watching me after reading this journal
2 if you were already watching me before this journal went up
+1 if you're watching me from multiple accounts
+1 if I'm also watching you (because that means I consider you a friend, like your art style, or like the design of your fursona a lot and might like a good chance to draw it)
+0 for making a signal boost journal because encouraging that behavior leads to bad places
So that's anywhere from 1-4 numbers on however big a number I need to roll to give a slot.
The winners will get to provide references for one or two characters, (optional) clothing for the two to wear, environment for me to attempt to make into the background, and so on. Your choices are one of "drawn in MSPaint", "drawn and inked by hand, scanned uncolored", and "drawn and inked by hand, colored in crayon". I no longer have the toolset readily available for digitally coloring hand-drawn lineart well.

300 Watchers, 700+ Submissions, and other news.
Posted 10 years agoLast night I reached 300 watchers, so as soon as I'm done with the 30 Day Challenge I'm going to be hosting a raffle. I've been hammering out the rules in my head since 293 watchers. I'm also over 700 submissions now. Watch out for my free art announcement!
My girlfriend of two years has asked to end the relationship last night; this is the second time it's happened during that time. I'm holding out for about a month before I change my profile information. And for some reason I've suddenly found myself craving white minks, of all specific things. I never even cared for Minerva Mink from Animaniacs so I don't know what the deal is there.

I've been thinking of doing a 30 day challenge

Katie turns 21 today
Posted 10 years agoIt's my girlfriend's birthday today! I didn't get around to drawing all the things I wanted to for her (might have some time later today but that won't cover half of it), but I have drawn one picture so far and some of the requests I've made have been coming in.
We had some very appropriate scripture at Mass this morning:
Genesis 2:18-24
18 And God said: "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him."
19 So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of them would be its name.
20 The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of the air, and all the wild animals; but none proved to be a suitable partner for the man.
21 So the Lord God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he was asleep, he took out one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.
22 The Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man. When he brought her to the man,
23 the man said "This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called 'woman,' for out of 'her man' this one has been taken."
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body.
Being me, there is a mild (but understanding) disappointment that they cut off before mentioning the man and his wife were both naked, yet they felt no shame.
We then sang this psalm before the second reading:
Psalm 128
1 Happy are all who fear the Lord, who walk in the ways of God.
2 What your hands provide you will enjoy; you will be happy and prosper:
3 Like a fruitful vine your wife within your home, like olive plants your children around your table.
4 Just so will they be blessed who fear the Lord
5May the Lord bless you from Zion, all the days of your life that you may share Jerusalem's joy
6 and live to see your children's children. Peace upon Israel!
Personally this has been one of my favorite psalms for my entire adult life. Some people like "The Lord is my shepherd" and some people like "You will not fear the terror of the night"; me, I'm drawn to "Your wife will be a fruitful vine and your children will be around your table"! I didn't notice until I started transcribing this the general blessing of prosperity: What your hands provide you will enjoy. I don't think there's a psalm I could have heard that sounds more pleasant to the ears of a man like me, worried about inadequacies in being self-sufficient (much less a provider).
I was so struck by these previous two passages that I didn't take much away from the epistle reading or remember its chapter and verse numbers. The Gospel, however, continues a theme:
Mark 10:2-15
2 The Pharisees approached and asked, "Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?" They were testing him.
3 He said to them in reply, "What did Moses command you?"
4 They replied "Moses permitted him to write her a bill of divorce and dismiss her."
5 But Jesus told them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment.
6 But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.
7 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
8 and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh.
9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate."
10 In the house the disciples again questioned him about this.
11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her;
12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.
13 And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
14 When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
15 Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it."
I for one think it's very telling that the Church decided to continue the reading after the passages concerning two becoming one flesh and the dissolution of marriage, following through and telling the disciples to accept the children and to accept the Kingdom the way a child does.
All in all, I would say these readings were exactly what I needed to hear on the birthday of my physically distant (and frequently offline) girlfriend.
We had some very appropriate scripture at Mass this morning:

11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her;
12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.
New Features Cause a Change of Plans
Posted 10 years agoI had been mulling over for a long time whether I should start a new account here to keep my art better organized, though it always mildly irritated me when other artists I knew did that out of the blue.
Now I can just make folders to keep things neat. Heck, I may even do away with the "scraps" folder entirely now that I can keep things like "gifts received", "commissions received", "trades received", "embarassingly bad drawings", and "sketches" in sorted folders.
Anyway, I'm at 292 watchers right now. I could have sworn it was 293 yesterday. At least FA doesn't give me a "New watcher!" announcement every time someone unwatches me anymore. Can't say I'm surprised about losing watchers with the way I act; if anything I'm surprised so many people do.

Approaching 300 watchers
Posted 10 years agoMaybe I should run a raffle? That seems to be the thing to do at this sort of milestone.
In even less important news, I finally (accidentally) accomplished one of my old goals for this site. You see, when I first joined my intent was largely to troll the place with my poorly-drawn art and offend people with anti-LGBT comments. Furries, used to trolls much more skillful than I was and art much worse, didn't take the bait and I eventually started making friends and decided to just try to get along. But today, I offended someone enough to get blocked by responding tepidly to her enthusiastic support of an "LGBT friendly" artist (as the selling point, as though that were something special around here). I even stated that I was going to check out the artist mentioned and see if I liked the art anyway (I didn't, it was all creepy big-lipped semi-humans).
I am so tickled by this. Earning peoples' ire accidentally reminds me of why I used to love Internet trolling and similar attention-begs (or makes me feel terrible and depressed, depending on the "offense").
