Things are stressful and I'm sorry xx
Posted 5 years agoI know I've been a bit aloof for the past couple months and I sincerely apologize for disappearing off here.
As you can see the world at the moment is..stressful. I've barely been online for the last two or three months. Between covid, the riots, the fires, politics, online drama..it's all so exhausting. Trying to manage depression and anxiety on top of all that was really getting to me, so I had to just step away for a bit. I apologize for not officially announcing it - time slipped by and then I felt like it was too late, and it just kinda snowballed from there.
I've mostly been working on a select few commissions and trying to take things easy. Got into playing Sea of Thieves and even though I suck at pvp games I still enjoy it a lot. I kind of miss going out - even for a hermit like me who spends most of his time at home, I miss the odd adventure outdoors and eating out once or twice a month (take-out and delivery are nice but..yanno). I haven't visited my mom since..last year?..I worry about her and I miss her a lot (I live in the city and my partner works at the hospital so there's no way I'm risking it).
It's a little late in the evening at the moment but I do plan on actually opening commissions tomorrow (close-up colored sketches, feetpaws edition!). I might try out google forms though..see how that goes? I'm not sure yet.
I hope everyone is taking care of themselves and trying to keep safe out there <3

UPDATE | Lost files, recovery, etc.
Posted 5 years agoMy apologies for not checking/replying to notes the past month or so. Holidays were a bit all over the place and I was trying to juggle that while also having one commission at the time left to finish. Afterwards I took a little break and relaxed.
But I did a huge big dumb over this past weekend that effectively set me back quite a bit art/commission-wise.
I wasn't being cautious enough and managed to erase/reformat my external hard drive, which had about 15+ years of files on it. Art, documents, commissions, passwords, characters, everything I've ever done or saved - gone.
Tried some recovery programs but ended up spending over $90 for a program - but it did work! Somewhat anyways. I did manage to recover a lot of stuff, but not enough of the stuff I actually wanted. But I can't do much else about it now except move forward and try not to dwell on what I can't fix.
I also decided to get a new computer since my current laptop is getting crappy (Windows 7 no longer updating) and my other laptop can't run more than one program at a time. Just said "fuck it" and bought a cheap-ish gaming desktop from walmart for like $650 (I still need a monitor + speakers but holy shit those are expensive??).
It's the most expensive thing I've ever bought and my previous computers were gifts, so it's scary lol. But it's also an investment considering I can't work if I don't have a good computer :x
So I'm pretty broke but at least rent is paid for already and we have food lol but money is gonna be tight af for a bit until I can save up again.
Beyond two people, commissions will be closed for the time being until I can sort all this mess out.

Posted 6 years agoMini-Journal:I just wanted to thank everyone for their patience considering I had to push back when I opened commissions to today!
As I updated here before, my cat Charlie recently underwent surgery to get fixed on Wednesday, and then on Friday we had to bring our other cat Hue in because he has a (possible) UTI that needed to be checked out and prescribed meds for. Personal life-wise, my kitty Charlie underwent surgery yesterday (neutering!) so I've been dealing with that. Having a kitten in a cone/e-collar is not fun for anyone and I feel so bad for him :<
I'm trying my best to make him as comfortable as possible while he heals up, but not being able to scratch an ear or clean his face right now must be awful for a cat.
He's usually quite cuddly anyway but he spent all night curled up with me in bed purring loudly and kneading, so I can only imagine how scared he was yesterday. I pretty much just tried not to cry and took a nap for the better part of the day lol.
But the vet said to just watch him for a week or two. I'm hoping everything heals up nicely and we don't have any complications.
I'll only be opening for colored sketches this time around, close-up and full-body. I might also open for a chibi/small or experimental as well since I need more examples of those.

Posted 6 years agoSo every now and again I'll get a note here on FA or elsewhere asking if I'm willing to sell one of my characters, especially ones that I have adopted from another artist. Normally these individuals go about their day after I politely decline their offer, but other times they'll take to either pressuring me to accept their offer or straight-up telling me that they're going to take my character anyways (whether outright taking the character whole or designing a direct rip-off).
I recently received a note here on FA asking me if I was willing to sell one of my adopted characters. After I politely let them know that my character was not for sell and is very much loved and in good use by me, they tried to offer me money. Again I told them no thank you, and their response to me was that they were going to use my character anyways.
Of course the shouts on their profile is full of people this person has seemingly harassed and they are now banned from FA, but I figured I should make a journal about this anyways.
My characters are not and will not be for sale.
Unless I specifically make a journal or submission here on FA/Twitter about selling one or more of my characters, please don't ask - and especially don't try pressuring me or threatening me when I tell you politely "no."
Also I would appreciate it that I am explicitly asked beforehand if anyone wants to or is requested to draw one of my characters, mostly to avoid these types of situations where someone is effectively stealing my character and/or getting art of my character in order to harass me.

Streaming help?? Trying to use Picarto.tv

So I'm trying to stream via Picarto using Streamlabs OBS (as is recommended by Picarto), and there seems to be like 10-15~ seconds of delay between what I'm doing on my screen to when it actually shows on the stream itself.
I expect some delay between them but this seems like too much. I've followed the tutorial on Picarto about using Streamlabs OBS and even messed around with some numbers, but the lag/delay is just awful.
I tried using OBS Studio and the same thing is happening. I've yet to try it with XSplit but I don't imagine it'd be any different.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this just how it is?
Any help is much appreciated :x

I feel that I need to preface this journal by saying that I will continue to take commissions and upload them - everything will stay the same as it is now.
Please forgive my self-promotion but I figured I'd make a journal about these things at least once just to let everyone know that I do have some non-commission avenues for supporting/donating/tipping me, if you're so inclined that is.

Patreon is a hot/cold topic in the fandom and since I don't know if it'll be at all popular for me, the current tiers are solely for tipping purposes. If I manage to hit $100/month then I'll be adding in exclusive benefits to each tier such as early access to artwork a week or two before anyone else sees it, high-res plus alternative versions of commissions that only the commissioner typically gets, WIPs & doodles that I typically never show, polls for content you'd like to see me draw, and maybe even some freebie art. You can see the current goals on the page for what I would like to happen but if it doesn't then I might end up closing the whole thing down if it proves to be unsuccessful.

Or do you prefer the bare-bones just-the-screen/art program?
Do you like when artist's use webcams?
What about talking/using the mic?
I won't subject anyone to my music choices because I'm insecure about what I like and also I 99% of the time play something on Youtube on the TV/Xbox in my room, so yeah.

Posted 6 years agoSince my last journal, it seems to me that there's a slight interest in streaming art but lukewarm responses as to whether Patreon would be a net positive or negative. Ko-Fi and Paypal.me seem to be fine to neutral at best though.
Ko-Fi (link) is my current favorite site for receiving tips and I highly prefer it above all else. It seems very straight-forward and easy to use, but it does take a cut from any donations that are made (at least in my experience?).
Paypal (link) is also pretty straight-forward in donations though it also can take a cut from any money sent (depending on friends/family vs goods/transactions? I'm not really sure).
Patreon (link) however seems to be a point of contention, but I have set one up anyways because of the apparent changes in prices/etc. going into effect this May. For the time being I'm going to use it as a monthly subscription for tips until if/when it proves itself to be a reliable/popular platform (such as, if I hit so much in a month I'll add in exclusive rewards per tier - otherwise I'm unsure of how well it'll go so I'm hesitant in going the "full mile" just for one person or two).
Picarto (link) seems to be the best place for streaming the kind of art that I do as they allow NSFW art while other streaming services do not. So I've gone ahead and set up my own account there, though I'm not sure what my streaming schedule should be just yet.
So yeah! This is my attempt at branching out and any additional advice is absolutely welcome <3
