[GIFT] Aram growth animation!
General | Posted 7 years agoThat journal from a couple of months ago looking for voice talent for an animation that gwktm was doing?
Well,
gwktm pulled through in RECORD TIME (afaic!), and finished the project!
Check it out here! (note: Aram's kinda chesty in this one, and nude, so it's technically adult I guess and tagged as such, so if you're an ol' prude like me you may have to toggle your settings to see it) (the actual animation is in a youtube video linked in the submission):

I'm floored! It's clear to me a lot of time and work went into it, and that he was able to rig the model I gave him from c_j impressed me, 'cause other animators were rather daunted by the task (it wasn't really made for rigging, and the complexities are beyond me, but all I know is it was not simple). For Aram it looks like he modified his raptor babe a bunch and gave her hair, which was a first for him I think. She doesn't move much, but it allowed him to focus on the angles and the emotes more, experimenting and I hope having fun with it. :)
So thank you,
gwktm! That was really super cool. May you complete ever more awesome projects and get all of the support and patronage you deserve.

General | Posted 7 years agoThe gracious
gwktm is animating a growth scene involving my dragoness, Aram. She needs a voice to go along with the animation!
Do you have a feminine voice?
Do you have a decent microphone?
Then maybe you'd like to be her voice-over. :)
This actually wouldn’t involve any speaking lines, mostly emotes and expressions, like his previous work. Although reaction lines may come up.
The model in question is over here on his page.
You can see & hear his previous work here (and there's a YouTube version if you're so inclined).
Even if you're not up to the voice challenge, go check out
gwktm. He's relatively new to FA, so could well be new to you!

[CLOSED] 3D animated Aram growth!
General | Posted 7 years agoCLOSED
gwktm has what he needs. Thank you everyone for volunteering so readily with ref links and everything. :) Keep an eye out on gwktm's page for updates and stuff.
I hope I get another project going soon that will involve more cameos, so fret not, there will be other chances.
Hi gang!
The remarkable
gwktm likes to make music remixes, toony art, and other things, and occasionally explores 3D growth animation, like this or this. He tends to gravitate toward the scaley types, which I suppose I can relate to. ;)
He has graciously selected Aram as his next test subject! He’s already rendered a model of her (check it out!), and I’m excited to see what he comes up with!
I’ve given him a few scenarios to think about, but he may have a need for a volunteer or two to participate in the animation.
If you’d be interested, respond below with a reference, and maybe you’ll get in on it. :). This is gratis, unpaid, non-profit time on his part, so i’m gonna try to be as flexible with him as possible, and I suspect any volunteers should probably come prepared with lots of freedom and plenty of patience. ;). Oh, and it’ll be more or less SFW, of course.
WOOT! Let’s get growing!

PayPal Transaction fees: DOs and DONTs
General | Posted 9 years ago3 years ago I posted a journal about this, but a recent transaction had me go and refresh my knowledge, prompting this update. I haven't actually called PayPal to confirm any of this yet, so I give links to the policies and agreements I read to come to these conclusions -- you may have a different interpretation. If you have info that contradicts this, and you have some links to back it up, please comment below; I'd be happy to update this post!
BIG CAVEAT: if you're a seller, and you're NOT in the US, your PayPal may have different rules. There are different policies in different countries. This post only concerns US sellers. Though I advise you to go to the all agreements page, pick your country, and read the agreements related to the ones I mention below.
If you sell things via PayPal, and certain exceptions are not met, you cannot charge PayPal fees to your customers. The 2nd paragraph of the PayPal User Agreement reads:
You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.
There are some exceptions, which you can see by viewing the PayPal User Agreement: Buying section. A few paragraphs down under 'Fees', it currently says:
When you buy something from a seller who accepts PayPal you don’t pay a fee to PayPal unless your purchase requires a currency conversion. In that case, you will be charged a currency conversion spread. Your debit or credit card issuer may also charge you a separate fee for non-U.S. transactions.
In addition you may be required to pay a fee to PayPal if you are making a purchase using PayPal Business Payments and the seller discloses to you that you, as the buyer, must pay the fee.
What's PayPal Business Payments? That's a special agreement the seller accepts with PayPal that permits them to pass PayPal fees on to you. However, when they accept this agreement with PayPal, per the last line of that agreement they forgo any PayPal Seller Protection, which could be a big deal or not, depending on what you're selling. There's a lot of protection there, but it also requires stuff like delivery confirmation and other 'proofs', so it may not be that great for all situations.
I haven't figured out yet whether just passing on the fees implicitly binds sellers to that agreement, or if there's a special thing a seller needs to do with their PayPal account to associate with that agreement and get permission to pass on fees. If it's the latter, and you're a seller, and you haven't done that, then passing on fees to your customers is liable to get your account suspended. Please look into it! If PayPal is your primary way of getting paid by your customers, losing it for any length of time can be devastating. I've heard plenty of horror stories, so PLEASE don't let this happen to you!.

General | Posted 10 years agoHi, all! I'm on the prowl for some new helpful macro commissions. I have a bunch, but I need some news ones, in the next 6 weeks or so.

Thanks. :)
Here are some concepts (and a couple of these you might recognize - if you figure out why the sudden surge of helpful macro commissions, keep it to yourself pls ;))
Pick a character from http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/rooth

Pet peeve: adult-rated price sheets
General | Posted 10 years agoI was just reminded of a pet peeve of mine: price sheets that are rated mature.
Artist opens for slots. Lots of SFW examples in gallery. They look awesome. Click price sheet. No dice.
I get that it's my choice to keep my account locked down. There are practical reasons for doing so, not just my disinterest (I occasionally watch NSFW streams, as some of you already know). But ... unless you do exclusively or primarily NSFW art (which this artist apparently does not, given the recent SFW examples in their gallery), why would you make your price sheet NSFW? At least make a SFW version or censor it or something...?
Hmmm.. my folders are sad
General | Posted 10 years agoSo, played around with folders. Attempted to organize the first 4 pages of my gallery into "only" 45 folders (one for each character, also environments, moods, sizes, and themes).
I think I don't like how I've broken it out. Might need to lose a group, or significantly curtail one of the groups. Environments and moods have the potential to get out of hand and bust the 50-folder limit.
I suck big time at organization. Also at databases.
Take a look at my gallery, and let me know what you think I should change.
[RECRUITING] Art Project + GlowRun
General | Posted 10 years agoHi folks!
2 things:
A few months ago I posted a journal for a new commission theme I thought up: 50 First Dates
When I commission artists, I usually give them a list of options to choose from. That journal is #1 on that list, most times. If the artist chooses it, they'll pick a girl referenced in the comments, and draw her with Rooth in a first-date scenario. I cover the bill (though I accept help if you offer it), and we get a cute pic. :) And because it's a first date, it'll never be adult themed, so if you have reservations about participating because of that possibility, it isn't.
There's a decent list there, but already a few artists have chosen the option and started picking off volunteers. Each character can only be chosen once (without serious convincing), and so the selection pool is already dwindling a bit. I could use some morevictims candidates! You stand a chance at getting some artwork from a random artist.
Please take a look at that journal and see if you want to join the line-up. :)
I've signed up for a 5km (3 mile) "glow run" in Denver, CO on September 19th! Signing up is only $20!
Go here: https://runsignup.com/RaceGroups/17...../Groups/167873
Click 'join team"
and you're off to the races. ;)
What is Foam Glow 5k? Well, it's a 5km run (~3 miles) (although I plan on walking much of it). You start the race as a blank canvas, wearing a white tshirt and as much white elsewhere as you can. Throughout the race you'll run through "foam zones" where they shoot UV-reactive foam at you, that sticks to your white shirt and shines brightly under the many UV lamps they have spread throughout the race. Some folks come wearing glowy things and flashy things and all the wonderful light things that I so adore anyhow. SO this is perfect for me. :) Is it perfect for you?
Read about it here: http://www.foamglow.com/denver-co/
Use this link: https://runsignup.com/RaceGroups/17...../Groups/167873
if you want to sign up with my team.
Hope you can make it!

and you're off to the races.

Micro weasel!

The least weasel (Mustela nivalis) is the smallest member of the Mustelidae (as well as the smallest of the Carnivora), native to Eurasia, North America and North Africa, though it has been introduced elsewhere. It is classed as Least Concern by the IUCN, due to its wide distribution and presumably large population.[1] Despite its small size, the least weasel is a fierce hunter, capable of killing a rabbit 5-10 times its own weight.

[CON] I'll be @ RMFC!
General | Posted 10 years agoI'm going to RMFC, since it's like 12 minutes from my house. ;)
I'm not "working", per se, but I'm available to watch tables or run errands for any artist-friends. You know who you are!
You can expect to espy a Rooth'roo at the con! He's an awfully big costume that's just impractical to bring to out-of-state conventions (or at least, I haven't figured out a way to transport him well, yet), so he gets a lot of air-time at RMFC. You may also espy a Rooth'ragon, if I'm feeling particularly spiffy!
Otherwise, I'm basically going to be hitting some panels, buying lots of commissions, hanging out with y'all, and relaxing. =)
[ARTISTS] Ref sheet question: Ratios, or no ratios?
General | Posted 10 years agoDilemma:
I annotated the Rooth'roo reference sheet. Should I include ratio markings or not? As an artist, would they bug you to see them in a ref sheet, or would they be helpful, or do you not even care?
With ratios: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kqj8wq78x.....os_FA.png?dl=0
Without ratios: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hd06vxvkc.....ed_FA.png?dl=0
My thoughts:
I'm not particular about the exact ratios. If an artist draws his tail somewhat shorter (4 in this case) or longer (8), I don't really care. But some artists try to keep the same ratio of things as in the ref, and assigning relative numbers to different parts would be helpful.
I used '8' as the height because eights are common in human proportions. But I can make it '1' instead, and make everything else some kinda fraction (decimal, or fractional notation?). What would make more sense?
[FURSUIT] Murrsuit? I don't think they really exist ...
General | Posted 10 years agoBut maybe you know otherwise?
FURSUITERS ONLY! -- answer this poll and indicate whether you own, or have 'used', a "murrsuit"
http://www.poll-maker.com/poll36651.....44093-14?s=res
My friend
kalira posted a journal of her own about the topic. In a debate with a friend, said friend claimed 50% ownership of murrsuits.I find that ludicrous.
And as Kalira said: NOTE: Kink shaming of any kind will not be tolerated. If you have anything judgmental to say about someone else's sexuality, don't say it here.
I personally can't relate to the appeal of such a suit. But I know my sense of sexuality is pretty far removed. I don't think I'm so far removed that I can't detect a 50% representation of murrsuits in the fandom, but I'm not about to judge those who have them, or those who use them. Nor should you. This is about gathering metrics, not about shaming, judging, or even discussing (seriously, I'd rather not get into details here, I'm just curious and want to help Kalira get some better statistics).
[NUDITY] Furry is conservative
General | Posted 10 years agoSo here I am, acting as dealer's assistant at Spectrum for lauragarabedian and vantid. Fortunate timing afforded me the ability to get a way for the weekend -- mom's out of town, and I was able to pay for a day off from work with extra hours the previous week. Woot!
For those who don't know, Spectrum is a convention for illustrators, artists, and collectors. It's the first time I've been to such a convention in a while, and certainly the first time working behind the counter.
I notice in the convention booklet (which is all of 6 pages), it has an "Art & Nudity" policy that's far more liberal than any furry convention I've ever been to. It reads:
Artists have drawn and painted nude people since the invention of...Art. Undoubtedly, you will encounter inside the Exhibit Hall artworks featuring all manner of half-dressed or entirely naked characters--along with all manner of works that might in one way or another be disturbing to some viewers. That's the nature of Art: it's not always gentle, politically correct, or otherwise "safe." SFAL is not a censor and while we are confident that all of the works for sale and on exhitib will be of the highest artistic merit, we're also aware that some attendees--particularly those with children--may find some of the art offensive. We believe that all of the works on display and for sale are valid expressions of the artists' ideas and sensibilities and, as such, should be seen. This is a simple advance advisory that there will be all types of art on display, including some that is intended for Mature Audiences.
It occurs to me that the furry fandom doesn't have a policy like this, at least, not anywhere I'm aware of. AC is certainly pretty conservative by comparison. Our conventions' policies are more like, "if any nipple is showing, or any hint of nipple, or a big bulge in the crotch, or actual vag or dick, COVER THAT SIN WITH STICKIES! Use a separate notebook! Put big warnings on everything!"
But there's a big difference between content and policy. Spectrum can get away with such a liberal policy because it really doesn't have to worry about artists having explicit pornographic works on full display. Or really on any display. I've flipped through quite a few print-folios in the dealer's room, and so far, I have not seen any sex scenes. Nudes, yes. There's even a brilliant work featuring Tyrion Lannister and one of his whores, but where Furrydom would tend to make the artwork about sex itself, perhaps emphasizing the size difference, this artist depicted a pensive Tyrion, with the whore caressing him soothingly. It is what we furries would call a "tasteful nude". That is about as raw as it gets here, from what I've seen thus far, without a single policy or rule describing what the limits are.
It makes me wonder if maybe the reason furrydom is so rife with porn that is often gratuitous and/or graphic could be because furrydom is also rife with rules, restrictions and censorship. We like to say "Oh, just go look at any other fandom, and you'll find just as much porn," but is that really true? Do we have more than our fair share? Or do we have just as much, but ours is just much more graphic? Does the censorship itself drive us to create more raw erotica, or does our lewdness drive the fandom to have more censorship?
I imagine that if some furry convention had the same censor-free policy that the artwork wouldn't get any tamer. But, it does make me wonder which came first... the graphic porn, or the desire to hide it from attendees.

[WIN] Unicorn naming: COMPLETE
General | Posted 10 years agoThank you very much for those who took part in this poll to decide what the unicorn's name is going to be. As you can see from this image (at least, I hope you can see it), the winning name is:
CASSANDRA!
It was looking like Annabelle was the run-away winner there for a while, but someone really loved Cassandra, to the point that they encouraged their followers to do a bit of vote-stuffing for them. That's dedication! And I didn't have any rules prohibiting that sort of thing, so I opted to allow it. Besides, it sets her up with some deep mythological significance or something. *grin*
To express my gratitude at all your help selecting a name, I have chosen a random participant using this method, 5/14/2015's seed, and the list of participants in the order they were entered. I have selected a winning participant and will be contacting them shortly, once the artist who's about to draw Cassandra gets back to me. :)
Thanks again, folks!
