I was all set to hate The Hunger Games ...

11-year-old girl institutionalized
Posted 13 years agoGerman courts have upheld a ruling to take an 11 year old girl from her mother, institutionalize her in psychiatric care, and eventually put her in foster care .... why?
Because she's trans. And her mother supports her and wanted her to have proper care, but her father and the state disagree.
This is fucking sick and barbaric. The mother has another court she can appeal to, but it's grim and scary that this has gone so far. Anyone that cares about LGBT rights needs to be shouting about this from the fucking rooftops.
EDIT: Since it's caused some confusion: The standard treatment for trans kids is to block puberty until they reach adulthood so they can decide as adults whether to permanently transition and have any sort of surgery. This was never about a child getting sex surgery; the girl's father and the government are trying to prevent her from having her puberty blocked and living as a girl. The mother is courageous and loving for supporting her trans daughter.

The "Ethical Imperitive" of Disclosure
Posted 13 years agoI came across this article on trans people and "deceptive" sexual practices, and thought I should share it with you all:
The Ethical Imperitive of Disclosure, or: How to Believe Your Victim Owes You an Opportunity for Abuse
It's long but very good. Basically I think anyone that has opinions on trans people should read it.

Women's Suffrage with Gaga
Posted 13 years agoFound via Almost Diamonds, here's a video homage to the women's suffrage movement in the US, done as a parody of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance.

Horror movie reviews?
Posted 14 years agoSo, back when I used to use livejournal, I sometimes wrote about horror movies I'd seen (usually the bad ones). Nowadays I don't really use LJ anymore and very few people read it anyway, and I don't want to start up a blog or anything, so would you guys be interested in seeing some movie review journals here? I like using FA in general as my home base on the web anyway.
The only problems would be that I can get really long-winded in those sort of posts, and they would have spoilers, so they might take up way too much space on my main page. I wouldn't want people to accidently see spoilers when visiting my page, but on the other hand, I imagine people would just ignore it if they saw something too tl:dr. It would be nice if FA had a "read more" code or something. What do y'all think?

Storming the Bishounen Citadel
Posted 14 years ago(Let, don't read this! ~>3)
So, I've been following with interest the developing storyline at Manly Guys Doing Manly Things about a were-bishounen. Coelasquid has a blog post at the first page about the tendency to favor bishounen only in anime and game fandom, to the point now where it's very common for people to draw bishounen versions of non-bishi characters, whether serious or not.
That got me to thinking ... why should bishi fans get all the fun? They can take our manly guys and turn them into girly boys, why can't we do the reverse? Let's all draw manly versions of popular bishounen and biseinen and show 'em how it's done! ~>3 Draw Squall from FF8, but make him look like Hugh Jackman-Wolverine! Draw Kamina from Gurren Lagann, but make him look like Jason Scott Lee! Sasuke from Naruto, built like Vin Diesel!
Let's all do it, and maybe we can make it a thing! (Hell, for all I know, this may already be a thing with a Japanese name on it, so let me know if it is so we can make it more popular!) I'm serious, do it, and leave links here, and if there's a good enough response maybe I'll make a club account or something.
To be perfectly clear: This is meant to be lighthearted, not hateful. Androgynous and gender-diverse people are good, and there's nothing against guys who are pretty and feminine. It's just that those are now the standard in anime fandom and manly men are the rare, rare exceptions, so it's only fair that those of us who like masculinity can play with gender in the opposite direction!

Thanks for all the nice holiday wishes on my last journal, I hope at least some of you had a good holiday (it seems like a lot of my friends had bad ones this year). I have a feeling that December was just a horrible bad-luck month and January will be better! <3

Fun color vision test
Posted 14 years agoSo I came across this test today and thought I'd share it with you all:
FM 100 Hue Test
(don't forget to check the part on your test results where it tells you the average scores for your age and sex!)
I've been thinking about this because a while back, I had a disagreement with a guy about a particular color; it was very obviously a dusty pink to me, but he saw it as orange. Since then, I've read that women actually tend to have better color vision than men, with some women even possibly having extra color receptors in the eyes. Interestingly, I scored a zero on this test, the perfect score, so I'm wondering if I might have those.
But don't feel bad if you don't score high on the test, guys; you can console yourself for having extra strength and societal power. ~>3
