Wow, just wow. That was an amazing weekend. I'm always astounded that each con is better than the last.

Got to see lots of friends and met some new ones. As is typical had a blast running around with  merystic and  rapier4. Saw  dhaiul floating around all over the place, seems like he was at every party that weekend. Feel like we didn't see enough of  fuzzy_toaster but there were some extenuating circumstances there. Sad that  damon_icarus didn't have his suit in time for the con, but it looks like he will very soon.

Got to wear my partial suit for it's TFF debut this year and it was awesome. Had so much fun suiting with merystic,  khoi,  fenrirsabre,  rexkitsune, and  tyco. It was especially awesome suiting to the Saturday night dance and getting up on stage. Also got to see  kajitorataotsu debut his own partial, and it was pretty adorable.

Had a good time with room parties like usual. Was good to see  kalimar again, missed him. Saturday night was great, the promotional party that Tyco put on for his own con Biggest Little Furcon went pretty well. Had a lot of fun bartending for and meeting so many new people. I hope to see many of them again at BLFC in May.

Thanks a ton to  spiketxtyger for driving  merystic and I to Chicago. By far the best roadtrip ever.

Arrived to a mess with hotel check-in (unsurprisingly). Had to wait a while to get a room, which  urbisromae took care of. He was even awesome enough to go back downstairs and request we be moved from the executive wing to the main section of the hotel.

Met so many new faces at this con, one of my favorite parts of going to a new con for the first time. We hung out with  TugtheUnicorn and  Lucky-Pony a bunch, including having some local beers they brought for people to try. Thanks to the two of them for the hospitality and good times. Also met some locals including  Burnide who showed us some good places to eat and shared what he knew about the area around the hotel. Also met some of Tug's friends, including  Nyil and  mits.

Also got to meet my double after much talk from Tug and crew about how they thought I was him when they first saw me. Turns out  JousterL is an ok guy once you get through all the goo stuff :P. Not only are we eerie mirror images of each other, but we actually have stuff in common too, soon to be one more thing...

Which brings me to Holiday plans, first of which is LASIK surgery. Drove down to Houston for a consultation this afternoon, and just recently regained my near field focus. Didn't know they would have to dilate my pupils for several of the 5000 tests they ran to see if I was a good candidate, which I am!
Scheduled my procedure for next Thursday, jumping into this thing head first before I can psych myself out about it all. Luckily I have had Jouster to talk to about how things will go before, during, and after the procedure.

Lucky me I got such a quick turnaround for the procedure, since I plan to be hanging out with  neoscottie, merystic, and  rapier4 in DFW the weekend of the 14th if he is cool with us staying at his place for a few days of fun.

Then the next weekend it is back to Houston to spend some time with family, always good to visit.

If everything goes well there may be a big new year's get together somewhere with  Huduu and  Sepiaa , who will visiting Huduu from Canada for a few weeks, as well as merystic, neoscottie, and maybe some other friends.

All that and a bunch of work, tests, finals, research, etc. to fill my remaining time this year. Gonna be pretty intense.

That was the most fun I have had in a weekend ever. A world of difference when you already know a ton of people before you show up.

I don't know if it was all the booze, or the lack of sleep, or what, but that dance Saturday was like 50 times better than last year. Even if it started 90 minutes late, it was still one of the most awesome 30 minute time periods of the con, though waterfall on Mike's stomach was pretty close.

Was great seeing everyone we met last year again, and meeting new people. Looking forward to AC with those who will also be attending, drunken room parties again perhaps.

Ok so, I have a roommate who graduates in a week and no one to take his place for next semester. If anyone knows someone in the Bryan/College Station area who is looking for a place to stay for the spring (first week of January through about mid-June) I have one bedroom available in a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath townhome style apartment.

Rent is $425/month + half utilities
The $425 covers cable and internet (8Mb and standard cable package with like 70 channels)
Utilities range from ~$80 to ~$120 per person depending on the temperature since AC is the major cost. Bill for October was $165 (total, split two ways) for all water, sewage, and electricity. The highest bill (August) still had both of us paying less than $550 for everything to cover the month. The management here is amazing, by far the best I have ever dealt with anywhere in the BCS area.

So I have been toying around with the idea of creating a group for those of us in the community that have chosen to pursue advanced degrees.
This could be PhD candidates and holders, or it could be any advanced degree....MS, PhD, MBA, etc.

Before I do though I need to get through this semester in one piece (almost there) and find a few others that would be willing to participate once it gets started to help spread awareness. Would be kind of sad to have a group with only 3 members.

I'm sorry this comes so late, but when I heard the news Monday it stunned me...it didn't feel real and I needed some time to collect my thoughts.
Though I never had the pleasure of meeting him personally or calling him my friend, his art was some of the earliest work I saw from the furry community and it was a large part of what led me here. If it weren't for him I would not have met so many wonderful people and made so many friends around the country and around the world. I regret that I will never have the opportunity to tell him so.
Even though I wasn't that close to him, this still hurts for so many reasons.
It hurts because he was a fellow dragon.
It hurts because he was a fellow human being, and by all accounts an amazing one at that.
It hurts because he was the other half of someone's life, I know how that is and the thought of that loss tears me up inside. My thoughts go to Narse and Brian's family in this difficult time.
It hurts because it was such an unfair end to such a young life, it makes you think about how fleeting your existence can be. If one thing can be taken away by everyone that knew and loved him it should be that you never know when your time will end and you should make the most of it. Be a decent person, be someone's rock, be a good friend, treat others with kindness and respect, that you may be so remembered one day after you are gone.
We have lost a great person, a good friend, a brother to some, an inspiration to many, and an icon to the community. He will be missed and remembered always.
