Furiffic?
Posted 10 years agoLast week I received an invite from a site I've never even heard before called Furiffic, does anyone else have received a similar invite or knows or has personal experience with this site?
Honestly I already feels like managing profiles on DeviantArt, FurAffinity and Inkbunny takes more time than necessary, having yet another profile on another furry art site seems overkill.
Also, isn't the furry community spread too thin as it is? Just how many dedicated sites are there for another one to crop up?

UPDATE - My laptop is toast
Posted 10 years agoFirst the good news: The hard drive was salvageable an now sits in a case as an external hard drive which I've tested and my files are safe.
The bad news: The computer's CPU, motherboard an inductor are fried and the repair cost is not worth for what is the current value of the PC. In other words, I've decided that building a new PC is the best option as I had been thinking about it for a while, circumstances just made it a necessity I cannot let for a later time.
As soon as I have the new machine up and running I'll resume all remaining commission work. I've emailed all remaining commissioners to inform them of this situation.
I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and the delay this has cause. I'll update you as soon the situation is finally solved.

MY COMPUTER DIED!!!
Posted 10 years agoWritting this on a tablet, no prior symptoms or warning signs, I was working on it an suddenly everything stops, goes blank, I try to restart it an Windows won't even load! which makes me suspect it is a hardware level failure because software wise I kept it perfectly. It goes without saying that until I find a solution commissions are on hold. I'll see what I can do to get things back on track, fortunately I made back ups of all my older works but worst case scenario I might lose the last two months worth of original art files.
I'm going to contact a repair service and see what happens, I'll keep you informed.

Taking care of some important matters ...
Posted 10 years agoFirst things first, I want to thank all the people that commissioned me on my last queue for your patronage and patience. All the commission in my current queue have been completed and delivered accordingly.
Unfortunately I'm not going to open other commission for a while as I have to seriously dedicate time to another long term project that I've left unattended for far too long due to several circumstances in my real life. So if you see any lack of activity in my profile, you don't need to worry, I'll simply be focusing my attention elsewhere.
That said, that doesn't mean that I won't drop by to comment and favorite once in a while to all of the people I watch and to those who leave comments in my art, nor does it mean I won't upload a random sketch or drawing once in a while, speaking of which ...
I owe a couple of gifts sketches to people in the community who graciously dedicated part of their time towards promoting my work via their own talents as well, those of you who know what I'm talking about, please be patient, I haven't forgotten, those sketches will be done, I promise.
Finally I will also try to find the time to actually create art of my own inspiration, it has been ages since I drew something that wasn't a commission and I'm itching to do so, but again, it'll take me a bit of time to get there. So many ideas that I've written down, so little time...

Maybe FA did something on their side that disallows viewing of images from browsers that use the "Privacy Badger" extension, once deactivated the images were viewable once more, thanks to everyone who replied to this post trying to help me solve the issue

How critiques have made me a better artist.
Posted 11 years agoIt is relieving and fulfilling to see an entire queue of the commissions followed by the word “Completed” at the end of each, and even more rewarding to know that I did my best to fulfill the wishes of each person who trusted in me to render their favorite characters into images.
Furthermore, what I have come to discover as I worked on each pic and sent the corresponding sketch previews for commissioner to look over is that, there are no qualms for a paying costumer to point out something that it is not up to par with what they have in mind. In other words, these can be the toughest critics of your work. So far these are the things I've improved recently as a result of such no hold barred critiques:
1. I used to draw necks rather thin in my characters, that in itself it is not a mistake per say in cartoony characters but since I'm pursuing to inject a bit more of realism in my work, that was something I needed to pay attention and so far I'm more vigilant off.
2. Learned to draw arms with a more defined muscle tone in my female characters, I used to draw shoulders and arm's diameter in the thin side as well. Again not a mistake, rather a preference, specially in characters where femininity is important since as a general rule, female characters tend to have less upper body strength that their male counterparts and that helped accentuate the lower body with wider hips. But that does not have to be the case every time, now I take more careful consideration about adding a bit more volume and muscle tone to the arms of female characters.
3. The size of hands were also an issue that has been pointed out to me multiple times, I had the tendency to draw these on the small size in female characters, again to convey femininity but I would sometimes go too far on this respect, and I fully admit that is something that I overlooked simply because I failed to “see” that these were too small. That is why only when different commissioners have pointed out to the exact same issue that I realized that it was something I needed to correct.
Now my work is better that what I could do a year ago because of it. So if you are reading this and I've made a commission for you in the past and you made me change something on a sketch because you felt it wasn't right, you did the right thing and I'm better at my craft because of it, Thank you.

Posted 11 years agoI had a unreasonable amount of expenses the last couple of months mostly due to medical related issues and this month has been ridiculous as well so any patronage would be greatly appreciated.

Bilateral chronic subdural haematoma
Posted 11 years agoAs you may recall on my previous blog entry, I mentioned that a close family member was in the hospital. Well she is finally back home but still recovering. Bilateral chronic subdural haematoma was the diagnosis that doctors finally managed to ascertain but not after many months of improper evaluations which blamed her constant headaches, insomnia and reduced mental faculties to depression. Granted, this person had history of prior episodes of depression but the absolute lack of concern from physicians to actually find a alternate explanation was unnerving. Finally after much complain about the lack of improvements after taking all sort of antidepressants, painkillers and sleeping we decided to just go ahead and go to a private practice and pay out of our own pocket a Cranial MRI as her symptoms of constants headaches refused to go away. And for good reason:

The dark areas on the around the top and sides of the brain is blood pressing it against the back of the skull.
This relative had a long history of repeated falls and head trauma over the years and it appear these falls had caused minor bleeding in the tiny veins that run between the protective membrane of the brain and its surface. Usually these kind of minor bleeding can recede and go undetected and cause no harm to the person, other times it accumulates and causes headaches, lost of balance and impairment of mental faculties such as speech. And even then with this new evidence was at hand, the neurologist decided to get a second opinion and schedule a second MRI to compare our results.
It all came to a critical point when one morning after waking up, she got up of bed and immediately lost consciousness, falling to the floor and unable to recover. Only then when she was taken by ambulance to the ER and had to be evaluated by neurosurgeons for the next 12 hours of which the first ones she was unable to speak when they finally realized the real source of that was affecting her all these past months and the damn psychiatrists and family doctor blamed to depression.
She spend the last two weeks in the hospital, she went through surgery 3 days ago which consisted in the drilling of four trepanations, two at each side of the skull to drain the blood that was causing this pressure to build up in her brain. She is currently recovering at home and while she is still weak and has difficulty walking, it is clear that her mental state has definitely improved. Currently she is able to sleep soundly (which was nearly impossible before) and she no longer has the horrible headaches that had been affecting her all these past months and she can speak naturally.
There is a good prognosis for her to recover fully but still there is lingering sense of impotence as she could been treated much more earlier and a lot of suffering to have been avoided had the psychiatrist had not blamed her symptoms to a depression and the antidepressants and analgesics she was taking. Currently a caretaker is going to look after her with the assistance of family while she recovers.
As you might expect this is going to take a lot of my time for the time being but there are indications that everything will turn alright. Once things are back to a relative normalcy I'll renew my activity once more and I'll take commission again, specially after all the medical expenses that had been incurred.
In the meantime, thanks for your patience and for reading this blog.

Posted 11 years agoI can't go into detail, suffice it to say that a close family member has been in the hospital since the beginning of the week and will go into surgery next week, I have to tend to this important matter so there will be no updates for a while.
Character poll, future commission and other musings...
Posted 11 years agoFirst of all I want to thank everyone that has decide to follow me, either from way back up to recently and specially to those who became first time commissioners. I'm really grateful and surprised for the positive responses I've gotten for my sketch collages, specially the Gadget Hackwrench one which I made out of pure whim and garnered such acceptance that ultimately lead to the creation of the Peg Pete, Rebecca Cunningham and other sketch sets.
Which brings me to the topic of this blog, as you may have noticed, all the recent sketches I've drawn has been of characters that I had never rendered before which is a pretty big oversight since I'm a big fan of a lot of these character but for reasons that completely escape me never got around to actually dedicate time to draw, or if I had, it was so long ago it no longer qualifies. This got me thinking of all the different female characters I like that fall under that same category and came up with the following list:

DX , that is why I'm going to dedicate some time to create pics that I compromised myself to create to a couple of artist here on FA and I do not want to break that promise. Once those are done, I'll get to commissions again, I'll post a new blog as soon as that happens.
