Glasgow October Meets... October 27th 2012
Posted 13 years agoThe Glasgow October Meet
Held on Saturday, October 27th
PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE SMALL CHANGES TO THIS MONTHS MEET, READ BELOW
Location
Horton's Bar and Grill
92 West George Street, Glasgow
The area has been booked for between 12:00 and 15:00. Horton's has been booked so that we can have a place to hang out until 15:00. I emphasise 15.00, I was unable to get the area booked until 16:00 because there is another function happening in there at 15.30 so we have to clear out. The format for the meet is going to be an hour earlier and we will be going to the cinema at roughly 16.00 instead of 17.00.
Costumes, tails and fursuits will be welcome at this meet, this will be the weekend before Hallowe'en so thought I would try and get something together.
I should probably get a list of the movie times prior to the meet so we can all discuss it before we all head off.
I will be waiting for folks at Glasgow Central Station between 11.30am and 11.45am meet me at the Tie Rack if you want to be shown where to go.
Likelihood of cinema afterwards is high, about £7.50 for a ticket. If you have a smartphone, download the cineworld app it can save you money
Rules, Policies, Regulations... the shit you shouldn't be caught doing.
1. No personal attacks against people. Keep your online grudges to yourself. Do not sexually, verbally or physically abuse others. Yes this rule has to be stated because there has been one or two such incidents in the past.
2. Don't break anything.
3. Under 18's must not buy alcohol and over 18's must not be caught buying alcohol for under 18's, if you are caught breaking either of these two rules, you will be asked to leave the venue by myself and permanantly banned from future meets. Also, I must stress that to avoid dissapointment from being refused service for alcohol, then if you are under 25 or if you look remotely under that age, then please for the love of god bring your ID! As the venue operates a strict 'think 25' policy. No outside food or drink! I do not want to lose a venue because someone was seen by a member of staff bring outside food into the venue.
4. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed, please let us know on the day or preferably ahead of time. Attendance constitutes implicit permission unless otherwise specified. Thanks!
5. When you order food, can you please make sure you are all ordering at roughly the same time, to stop staff from having to go back and forth all the time. Also please do not crowd the bar area unless you are ordering drinks
Notes about Fursuiters
If there are any fursuiters around, please excercise your common sense. Do not approach from behind, glomp or grope. Ask for permission if you wish to use flash photography. Please be mindful that fursuiters can not see a full field of vision and can be easy to startle if you sneak up. Remember fursuiters get incredibly hot, if they need water don't stop them.
Previously banned attendees are still banned from Glasgow meets.

Scotiacon 2012
Posted 13 years agoWell to anyone heading out to Scotiacon next week in Inverness, have fun and have a safe trip.
I can't emphasise 'Have a Safe Trip' enough. The A9 up to Inverness, as pretty as it is, is one of the most dangerous stretches of trunk road in the UK. Make sure you all share your videos and photos of your experience when you come back.
I
will not be there, Anthrocon left me a bit skint and I have other commitments which I am saving money for.
Have fun everyone and travel safe.

The area has been booked for between 12:00 and 16:00. Horton's has been booked so that we can have a place to hang out until 16.00, afterwards heading out to George Square for a group photo, then going to the cinema (cinema is usually a bit of a farce, so I need to plan things in respect to cinema a little better).
I should probably get a list of the movie times prior to the meet so we can all discuss it before we all head off.

6. This is a low key meet, no tails, ears please... it pains me to have to enforce this policy and sorry to anyone who wanted to bring tails. You can do all the normal furry activities, drawing, playing games etc though. You are allowed to bring con badges, that is not an issue at all.
7. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed, please let us know on the day or preferably ahead of time. Attendance constitutes implicit permission unless otherwise specified. Thanks!
8. Can I also please emphasise, not to stand in a big crowd in front of the bar. The staff where not able to get past us because a lot of us where standing at the bar.
9. YOU MUST BE OVER THE AGE OF 16 TO ATTEND. If you turn up to the venue and you are under this age, you will be asked to leave.
Notes about Fursuiters
Sorry folks but I cannot encourage fursuiting and it's likely for the forseeable future that I won't be able to permit it either.
Previously banned attendees are still banned from Glasgow meets.

Fursuiter meets in Scotland and why there are none...
Posted 13 years agoIt is with deepest regret that it is incredibly difficult sometimes to organise a Scottish meet where fursuiting, tails and ears are all openly welcome to the meet. Most Scottish furmeets are held in a bar and it is mostly inappropriate to bring out fuzzy costumes to these type of locations. We have had a couple of Scottish suiter meets and the reason they failed is because either a location closed down or because the management of the establishment didn't want us back at a location or because an event organiser stopped organising the meet.
Glasgow meets in particular are difficult to cater for fursuiters because Glasgow isn't a particularly friendly city towards anything that is not putting it bluntly 'the norm'. Edinburgh meets are in a wide open public area and Aberdeen meets are in a bar.
I myself if I could organise a Glasgow meet with suiters, would easily do so but it can be difficult finding a place with the right facilities.
It is a question I am asked alot and these are generally the reasons why they aren't organised. It is a good thing we have a place to meet up in the first place and furry isn't just about fursuiting and wearing tails and ears to alot of people. It is about making friends, artwork and discussing your interests for anthro's with others.
I can only apologise if you find this a little unfair, but it's just one of those things and it hasn't been for the lack of trying on my part and the meet organisers across Scotland's part.
Thanks for listening

I would like to give a special thanks to all of the attendees of February's Glasgow meet. I had a lot of fun meeting new faces and getting to know the new furs. Yeah the film was a bit meh... but still had a lot of fun regardless. Its fun organising something for people and seeing so many people get something out of it. Hope to see you all at the next meet again.

Important Note about Fursuiters
Sorry folks but I cannot encourage fursuiting and it's likely for the forseeable future that I won't be able to permit it either.
Previously banned attendees are still banned from Glasgow meets.
QUESTIONS, Here's how you can get in touch
Email: disturbiawolf[at]hotmail.co.uk
Twitter: DisturbiaWolf
Send me a personal message on UKFur Forums, Please note you must sign up for UKFur first before you can access the forums
If you wish to contact me on Twitter, you will have to send me a follow request first. I always accept follow requests from Scotfurs.
Please do not phone me regarding the meet, I can answer questions using email in detail just as well as I can over the phone.
Hope to see you all at the next meet again.

disturbiawolfUpdating the Member Lists and some news...
Posted 13 years agoHey there folks. I am currently updating the Scotfur members page with all the new members and such. I have also updated the Scotfurs member list to mention some furs that I know of in the community here in Scotland. I hope to build up a comprehensive list on here of where all of the Scottishfurs all live.
I have not fully updated the list yet, as it hasn't been updated in quite some time. You guys can help by posting where you are currently living!
Meet Updates
There is a Glasgow furmeet taking place on April 28th at Horton's Bar and Grill on West George Street, Glasgow. If you wish to come along and join us feel free to. More details can be read on the UKFur forums here. I will be posting a journal about this meet in due course for full details.
There are currently 3 main meets that take place in Scotland. Aberdeen usually takes place on the last Saturday of January, March, May, July, September and November. Edinburgh meets usually take place on the first Saturday of every Month. Glasgow meets take place on the last Saturday of February, April, June, August and October... but is subject to change.
All details of all Scottishfur events will be posted here in due course, all details of Scotfur events are posted on UKFur on a regular basis.
Also greetings to all of our new members

New mod for the group to help keep things up to date :)
Posted 13 years agoHeya folks :] we're gonna try and get things a bit more active on here so we've got
disturbiawolf very kindly offering his assistance. Say hi to him and be sure to tell any other Scottish furs of the group and get a nice community going!
He'll be posting meets, updating the member lists etc, so be sure to leave your details as to where you are in this bonnie country so everyone can more easily connect!
Best wishes,
Foxy.

foxamooreGreetings new members and Updates
Posted 14 years agoHi folks!
Welcome to all of our new members. If you haven't done so yet, be sure to say which part of Scotland, or where in the world you reside in, as I'll continue to gradually update the list and show everyone which area you stay... great for organizing meet ups.
Speaking of meets, we could perhaps create a journal and link it on the main page, containing dates and areas of arranged meets in Scotland, then people can check back and see when and where they can have the chance to meet up.
Secondly, if you haven't already done so, be sure to check out "ScotiaCon", which is Scotlands first official convention, being held in Inverness. It's well worth the experience, the scenery and staff of the hotel are ultra friendly and you'll meet some new friends from around the country (and perhaps from England too...) Check out their official website and help support the nations first furry convention experience :]
Greetings from a very wet and borderline cold Dunfermline!

foxamooreFife has taken over!!!!
Posted 14 years agoWell.. not exactly, but I'll be helping to run the group and give more regular updates on everything thats going on. If anyone isn't on the members list linked below yet, feel free to leave a message on this journal, along with which area of Scotland (or if you're of Scottish blood and stay elsewhere in the universe). Additionally, if you know anyone in the fandom that is Scottish, feel free to spread the word, so we can build upon this.
Perhaps we can get some discussion also on what you'd like to see in the group? Perhaps a diary of arranged meets, the latest information regarding Scotiacon, featured Scottish themed artwork in the gallery donated or shared by artists... Perhaps even a more sociable place or journal to discuss things happening in Scotland. (Like how we have more potholes/craters on our roads than the Moon just now.) Any other ideas, feel free to leave a comment!
All the best from Dunfermline, where in parts we STILL have little bits of compacted snow that fell in November >_>.

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses, keep em coming! I'll be updating the list over the weekend.
