Brief Philosophical Rant: Reproduction and parenthood.
Posted 10 years agoJust something I've been wanting to get off my chest. Feel free to navigate elsewhere if you are not interested in this.
Someone needs to say it.
The Irony about the idea that all couples MUST reproduce and any couple that doesn't is against God is that it's actually destroying the world by being a heavy contributor to overpopulation. I feel that Homosexuals are the scientific/divine (However you wanna see it) plan to control a species's population in the most peaceful way manner. A sort of utilitarian approach. Everybody wins.
Even with heterosexual couples...Parenthood is NOT for everyone. It really is a very challenging thing. It takes a special kind of person to do it. If you can't do it, then that's okay! Nobody should be pressured into having children. One should only have children when they feel truly ready. If they never do, then there's nothing wrong with that.
As for myself, I don't think I'm ready right now to be a parent. If I ever feel that I can do it, I'd prefer to fulfill my genetic role and adopt rather than inseminate. Give a child a second chance.
Aside from the overpopulation portion, this is just me talking here.

Furry the movie and why one shouldn't worry about it at all~
Posted 10 years agoIt's been spreading on facebook like wildfire and I'm sure it'll end up here. There's a Movie trailer by a supposed indie production company called furries the movie. I'll save you the details and just link it.
https://vimeo.com/114533913
Now people are taking this at face value. However, when you look into the actual video, it''s nothing to be scared of, no matter how offensive one would find this to be.
Take a look at the channel. You will notice that not only does the channel have 5 subscribers, but that trailer is the ONLY video on that page. You can search EyeMagine Productions on Google and you will see no other trace of the company other than a logo video on youtube, which that hosting channel only has 4 subscribers.
The video linked above has been online for 5 months and only achieved one like. That's not quite a serious audience. Even then, not every trailer on Vimeo will have a release. Another red flag is the production values. It looks like a MadTV sketch. B-movie production values at best.
For all we know, this is just a video made to fuck with us :P that or it merely serves the purpose to be nothing more than a satirical movie trailer.
But lets say it is real. Does one silly indie film off of Vimeo really pose a threat to our community?
It's only some low grade indie group on the internet with a film that may come and go like a college film project would. Even then, with the overwhelming good press we've had lately, I'm sure people aren't going to be completely fooled.

Fighting Trolls 101
Posted 10 years agoStep 1: Observe malicious intent
Step 2: Accept as a Troll
Step 3: Give no response and walk away, close the chat window, navigate away from the post/page/comment box/your own post entry/journal/comment box
Step 4: If he stopped, Skip Step 5
Step 5: Block/mute/remove said individual
Step 6: Maintain giving individual no attention
If you fed said individual with any sort of attention and only later find out he's a troll, do not worry, just stop speaking. No matter how much he thinks he's digging into your pride.
Snappy comebacks will not suffice, as they will do all necessary to piss you off. Even then, that attention alone will satisfy them. No matter how bad at it they are.
Too long; Didn't Read? Simple, Just don't feed the trolls~
Or any jerk that you may be dealing with right now. As long as you give them any attention, or acknowledge any indication that they're getting to you, they will just keep doing it, and more will join in. I see way too many people allowing themselves to be weighed down like that...

The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.
And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall.

For those Concerned over the IMVU Copyright rumors.
Posted 10 years agoAllow me to quote this
4.1 - When you upload content to Fur Affinity via our services, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable right and license to use, host, store, cache, reproduce, publish, display (publicly or otherwise), perform (publicly or otherwise), distribute, transmit, modify, adapt, and create derivative works of, that content. These permissions are purely for the limited purposes of allowing us to provide our services in accordance with their functionality (hosting and display), improve them, and develop new services. These permissions do not transfer the rights of your content or allow us to create any deviations of that content outside the aforementioned purposes.
~Furaffinity.new Terms of Service
Now legally, since IMVU Owns the site, this MAY transfer over to IMVU. But at the same time, they said that FA will still run independently with their funding. So idk if it does. However consider this. This has been a factor since you joined FA that your art may be shared elsewhere, however if IMVU uses your content, it is still limited for only the purpose aformentioned. Nobody is going to make money off of your work but you.
Even IF they had something in the Terms of purchase that causes you to surrender rights to them. Considering this paperwork is under NDA, how would you know? Nobody knows! Except for the FA administration who stresses that that is a rumor. Whether or not you trust
Dragoneer, If nothing about these copyright changes has been displayed in writing, then it doesn't apply. Just keep an eye out for ToS changes. Until then, It's business as usual.
So in conclusion, I wouldn't worry. Just keep your eyes pealed if you must be concerned about the copyright aspect.

Sharing this journal: On Leaving the Furry Community
Posted 10 years agoi wanted to share this journal I found by
Dogbomb as it not only reflects my views 100%, but I think deserves a signal boost!
I see it all the time; good folks declaring that "it's time to grow up and leave this fandom."
Suddenly they're gone. All that remains is a fur ball under the bed and a fake tail
tossed haphazardly into a trashcan.
Their story always contains a common thread and it never fails to give me droopy ears.
Seems that there is a pervasive misconception that being a furry somehow makes you
juvenile, irresponsible and unable to become a successful, productive adult.
Even inside the fandom, many believe that being a fur is something to hide from the world
at large. No real names, no sharing this joy with friends and family, reduced to living the fur life in the
shadows of everyday life.
We have some self image issues here, gang.
Let me assure you that this mindset is misinformed at best; it just ain't so!
In my way of thinking, being a furry compliments being a well rounded, contributory member of
society. Who the hell wants to live in a world where adults are reduced to bland automatons, unable to
participate in imaginary thought, scoffing at the dreams of others, never seeing past the wall
of the empirical?
Not me. I want to wag freely and and be a talking dog whenever I please.
With whomever I please.
Plastered all over social media if possible...
I want my mind left free to explore, and I want to engage in childish flights of fancy.
I firmly believe that this fandom saved my sanity in so many ways, and I can't imagine life without y'all
and my stupid animal costumes.
Of course, one must keep the blade of silly fun tempered in the heat of hard reality.
You gotta work and work and know when to be real. It'd be fun to fursuit, drink beer
and chase tennis balls all day, but the bank won't accept that as a mortgage payment.
So here's the deal: if you feel like being a pretend animal is holding you back, take a hard look at yourself
and take the time to dissect your life. Reaching your goals may mean that you spend less time browsing
FA and more time taking notes in the classroom, but does it mean that you have to give up cultivating
your imagination?
No.
Life demands balance.
Balance means the scales have equal weight on both sides.
One side is hard work and reality, but the other side is a sweaty guy in a dog costume with an ear to ear grin.
So don't leave.
We love you and want you to stay.
We also want you to be a successful human.
Why not both?
I'd like to also add that for those that wish to leave over drama, believe me, it is NOT better on the outside. You spend enough time in the furry community and you are so used to what happens here. When on the outside, it's just as bad, if not a LOT worse~go to a public area and go on YikYak. Or take a peak on grindr and talk to folks on there in a public area outside of a convention and look how much creepier people can be than you think everyone is here when you run into that rare few that might not have his head on straight on the Internet. This is all apart of life, and us furries are lucky to have a society to be a little more united and open minded than everyone else. No, we're not perfect, but never let the behavior of one person reflect the community as a whole.
This is all it really comes down to. The journal above really does reflect my views, including my sanity. I honestly don't know where I'd be if I never found this community. To many, this adds a whole new form of insanity, but what is normal? This is normal to me, and I'm fortunate enough to live in a city with a family that's fully aware that I'm both gay and a furry and accept me for who I am. I dedicate my life to being furry, but I'm still able to live a responsible and self sufficient and fulfilling life. I'm a senior in a 4 year university for a BA in media communications while working a job in live entertainment production for $15/hr plus commission for special assignments! Even with some of the disabilities I've been able to overcome.

Sebris @Realms Con 2014 Update: JDS Lasers
Posted 11 years agoI figured i'd keep it somewhat a surprise but I feel good enough posting here that aside from SKIP Entertainment's involvement with the event, We are bringing Just Don't Stop Production's JDS Lasers to bring in...well...lasers for the event :D
JDS is a small group in San Antonio, TX that has made a big name for themselves as not only being one of the most affordable, but one of the best laser show artists in the State of Texas. I'm very pleased to have him involved with this project. Trust me, his work will melt your faces :D

Facebook somehow managed to surprise me [quickish rant]
Posted 11 years agoSeriously. I mean I shouldn't really care and just leave facebook, I would if my professional life had an anchor on it. (All my local contacts in music centralize on Facebook)
Everyone's pretty much aware of the controversy, so if you are, feel free to skip this paragraph. For those that do not, here's the situation. They hate it when people don't use their names on their Government issued IDs, so they will force change the name or deactivate your account. Sometimes they just say fuck it and delete it all together. People will ask why it's such a big deal. For some, it's a way of staying under the radar to be socially open away from the eyes of a bigoted family or a judgmental workforce. Facebook claims privacy is still possible with its privacy settings but it really isn't. they still find you and work around it one way or another. This or people feel more closer to the name they chose to sign up with. Could be because it's a spiritual name or a performer's name. Sure they have secondary names while insisting your ID name to be your primary but some people just feel closer to that name. Honestly, who is anyone to judge someone for that? In the end, you decide who you are. Also, they only limit your account to three name changes....ever. Even if you get married 4 times, tough shit. Hell, when a friend of mine got snipped for a name, it forced changed her name to Chris ***, which she used her 2nd change to take it to Christine *** (She's Transgender. Her name is legally Christine *** now). Then they think it's still fake, so they look for the closest relation to her, fuck up, and change her name to her father's name. When she reported that to the admins, Facebook did admit fault for that, but they refuse to let her change it back as it would mean they give her a 4th name change, when their policy says 3.
Now here's the news. CNN Recently covered the controversy by talking about drag queens that depend on using a name that they chose for themselves. It covered both the identity implications as a performer and a personal image as well as the social security implications. Having people finding out who they really are could harm them. Of course, CNN put a spin onto the favor of the drag queens. Even Google threw in that when they tried to do the ID name requirement, they were wrong in doing so. Yes it could add an element to safety but the invasion of personal privacy and expression outweighed the safety of the matter. As you'd imagine, it's grabbed a lot of attention. It's being shared around facebook like herpes. not just by the furry community but the LGBT community as well.
Here's where my surprise sparked, despite the media attention, the Daily Grind has reported that facebook has issued a warning to all drag accounts to change their identities to match their Govt. IDs or they will be deleted within two weeks. You'd think after PR like that, they would begin to backpedal (Like Google, who is also an internet giant) but they didn't. They sincerely don't give a shit. Though what won't surprise me still is the possibility of them getting away with this. Personally I'd like to see this hurt facebook in some way. Either to where they change policy or where there's a substantial migration to another site. Not exactly out of spite over facebook (i'd rather see a policy change) but to see people utilize the power they actually have.
I guess we will see how this goes down.
This elitist bullshit really needs to stop [rant mode]
Posted 11 years agoI normally don't rant like this on FA often. If I rant, it's on FB. For those that don't know what elitism is, here's a definition
the advocacy or existence of an elite as a dominating element in a system or society.
Basically saying in this case, that because you think what your into is better, you believe most other things suck and with that, you feel you have to bring down whatever you believe sucks. People will even take this thought and think up a false reality that these lesser practices will ruin their community. For example
Bad fursuits will ruin the furry fandom
Sexual content will ruin the furry fandom
Trap music or commercial EDM will ruin the rave culture.
It's honestly stupid. But if you still have people that love what you think is better, then people will continue to love it. There is no need to be territorial.
Why is this a problem? Because it's tearing these communities apart. There is way too much warfare in the rave culture right now. People are fighting over which style of music belongs or not in these silly battles to where it's reflecting on even the events and the DJs. It curbs creativity.
With furries, you basically took a safe haven and now have people being alienated for who might have an obscure sexual orientation, who might not have the best art out there. Who gets tattoos, who has untraditional piercings, who was born with a disability, who goes transgender, who doesn't practice being a furry like you did 20 years ago because really, the fandom is what you make of it. I'm guilty of being slightly elitist over MLP fans. However just because I don't like the practice, doesn't mean I have to bash on it. Just don't be Jehovah's whiteness about it and we're cool :3
Look, I'm not saying everyone is like this. Remember, there are a TON of people out there, especially in the furry community that hang into the true values that makes this community so great. I've been lucky enough to associate myself with the right people to see little of this with my own friends. I'm an optimist. I don't think this is going to be a big issue, but let's not let it be a big issue. The biggest thing that makes us us is love. That's all we need. I love you guys, and I really mean it. You don't have to of course but as a community, at least show some common respect for one another.

Hair on a fursuit head | DIY Question
Posted 11 years agoGoing to be working on Sebris 2.0 pretty soon now that I have a budget. I'm pretty handy with crafts :3 Gunna nab a base from DV and just work from there. Just a question though
I am looking to make this head more like...well...me. My current fursuit head looks the way it does because that's all I could really afford at the time. (I also didn't know there was such a thing as Resin base blanks~). Doesn't make it any less great though. I love the head :3 Just want to reflect my image better. I have most of it thought out already but what's left is figuring out how to put my hair on the head.
Not looking for a hairstyle too fancy, just going for what is on my Ref sheet
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10612154/
With that, What would any of y'all recommend in terms of going about this without spending a hundred or two on an expensive wig?
Also, if anyone is looking for a head that looks like the one I have now (Sebris 1.0) check out
