I just ran across SoFurry.com

Is it good? Bad? Indifferent? Does anybody here use it?

So we inherited some chickens from my brother this last weekend. I've never owned chickens before and really know nothing about them, but I went to the library, picked up a few chicken books and have been cramming the basics. They really seem pretty easy to take care. I did not, however, realize how much I would be worrying about some poultry on a day to day basis.

It started with the first night we got them. My mom heard them making a huge racket at 11:00 at night and come to find out a cat was already eyeing them. Then today, me and hubby took the kids to Lowes so we could pick up some things to make a door on the chicken coop to keep them locked inside at night, away from predators, and when we came home our three chickens turned to two chickens.

I was upset, not because I had become emotionally attached to this chicken, but because I feel like I let it down. It was my responsibility to keep this chicken safe from predators and now it's just up and missing. The worst part was there was absolutely no evidence left behind of what could have gotten it. Maybe it was the cat but I would have expected to see some blood and feathers. Even an eagle I would have thought would have left a little evidence behind. So now we're stressing trying to brain storm how we're going to completely close in this old 10x20 dog run that we have to keep the chickens in when my hubby looks under this platform and the missing chicken is under there laying an egg... Yay chicken! Yay egg!

Anyway, I was relieved that it was still alive and just fine. So now we're back to the drawing board for building a better coop and enclosure. It's fun though... the chickens are fun to take care of and the kids love them. They're laying chickens so it's also been really rewarding to go out and pick up the eggs and then eating them. They are delicious btw. Don't think I'll ever want to eat store eggs again.

Now, if I could just successfully make a loaf a bread in this stupid bread maker... it's my first time using it and something went wrong. Some of the dough fell on the side and now my kitchen if filled with smoke. I'm just trying to be a suzie home maker but apparently I'm not too good at it.

Anyway... sorry, just felt like blogging a bit about my boring life. I've been finding some time here and there for art. Still need some extra cash, lol. That's why I'm trying to offer some cheap commissions if anybody is interested. Getting noticed on the internet is so hard these days.

I see people do this sort of thing on most popular social networks, and I was thinking maybe I'll start doing it for some old art. I've got some from last year that I never uploaded onto here and I thought it might be fun to go through some of my super old stuff and upload it again. With that said, anything that is a "throwback" I'll be sure to title TBT along with the title of the image.

Anyway, other than that I have been working on some art. Just haven't had a chance to finish anything and get it uploaded. I have two pictures that need to be scanned and uploaded and another two that are a work in progress. It's kind of nice to just work on personal stuff right now... at least this way I feel like I can play around with new techniques and not feel terrible if it ends up a total failure.

Life itself has been busy. It's spring time so there's lots of spring cleaning to do. Trying to get the garden setup and also trying to get a chicken pen setup. My brother and his wife are leaving state so we get to inherit their chickens. I'm pretty excited. I've never owned chickens before so it should be a fun experience for me and the kids. Plus, fresh eggs! Woo! Just wish the weather would make up it's mind and stop threatening us with more snow.

I'm starting to attempt to make my presence known again because I really want to start taking in some regular commissions. We're strapped for money and now that I'm feeling physically better I would like to start using my art to help out financially, even if it's just $20 here and there.

My questions is the age old one, how to get my stuff seen more? I'm curious if a lot of the artists here are advertising on other sites as well as this one. Also, I'm curious when the best time to upload new art is. I've never experimented with it too much, but I know there are certain days that have higher traffic rates then others.

I changed my commission rates for now. I feel like before I was being overworked and underpaid. It's such a balancing act because I don't think I have enough demand for the prices I'm charging, but I would rather work hard on one picture rather than trying to spit out several pictures for the same price, if that makes sense. I definitely plan on doing some "promotional sales" here in the future to maybe spark some interest.

Anyway, I just never feel like I know how to play the game right. x_x

So I have nothing on my current to do list. Or at least I don't believe I do... Unless there was something from ages ago that I've forgotten about. :x I'm definitely open for trades and really wish I could get at least one commission in the future. I'm running out of supplies and need to replenish and with no expendable income, art is the only way that I can get some funds to do that.

As soon as I'm done with this journal I'm going to finally put of a list of artists that I get all my inspiration from. I've noticed with the last few pictures that I've done that these certain artists are really starting to influence my style a bit (a lot -_-), and I would like to give credit to those artists. Also, in the event somebody wants to say the old "Oh, that looks like such and such's character" I can at least then say "yeah, they are a huge idol of mine. See my front page." Oh the things I have anxiety about...

Anyway, I don't really know what else to post about. I mostly just wanted to post something to show that I am still lurking around. And I sure do appreciate the favorites I got over my massive upload. It's funny how motivating something small like that can be.

Ok, so after being gone for 7 months I've finally got the urge to come back and be active for a bit. I got a new set of colored pencils and have been trying new techniques and of course the only things I draw are wolves/werewolves and stuff like that... so I figured it would only be appropriate to get back into the best website for this type of stuff.

That, and I'm broke... so I know this is the best community for selling artwork. So, hopefully I can take the time to become active again and take on a few commissions to help continue to fund my art. I really need a few dollars to get another black colored pencil. >_< Apparently I accidentally killed it with three pictures. Oops. I'm so terrible with colored pencils, but I'm doing my best to learn them. I really do enjoy working with them... they are a bit more forgiving than markers.

Anyway, I look forward to looking at the 10,000+ pictures that I have in my inbox right now. It's always nice to catch up on what everybody is doing now a days.

Just in case anybody wants to see my sketches and junk. There won't be that much "furry" stuff... but lots of werewolf stuff. That's the direction I'm heading with my art. Not sure when/if I'll really be getting back in the furry fandom.

I'm still alive! I'm just lurking around a bit. I don't really have anything "furry" to off right now, lol. I've been doing MLP fanart so I've been leaving that on my DeviantArt.

Other than that I've just been busy with the kids and prepping for Hawaii. We're leaving in 2 and a half weeks and I'm of course excited and stressed beyond belief.

And then after that it will be lots and lots of prepping for senshi con. I'm starting to get more crafty and I'm trying my hand at sewing. I'm trying to sew MLP plushies and Hoodies.

So, that's what I've been doing. Really nothing to exciting. x_x

I'm curious if anybody knows about shrinky dinks and the materials that are used for them.

I'm trying to figure out if I can find the same plastic at Home Depot or Lowes for cheaper than what the official Shrinky Dink site offers. I read that you can use recycled #6 plastic, but that stuff isn't very easy to come by!

Anyway, if anybody knows any information I would appreciate it! I want to make some keychains for a con so I'm trying to find the cheapest way to obtain the material.

I've just been lurking around as of late... In my little bit of free time I've actually busted out the sewing machine trying to sew myself some clothes. I really want to sew myself a hoodie, so I'm desperately trying to practice and refine my non existent sewing skills. My lucky kids get to be the guinea pigs.

Other than that life is good. Working on stuff to sell at the convention up here and today I think I'm gonna work on my comic page a bit. My to do list is pretty non-existant, so I'm going to take the time to do some of my own stuff until it builds up again.

I'm feeling super "bleh" about my art right now. I hate feeling like that... I swear I'm so bipolar about my art. One minute I love the stuff I'm doing, the next minute I hate my entire gallery and just want to trash it all. Oh well... fortunately I only have some trades to do in the future, so I can take some time off from art for this weekend and try to regroup. That and I can devote the weekend to Diablo 3 then. x)

But until then, I'm getting things laminated and packed up for a trip to the post office today. I'll make a journal after the post office and address everybody who had a package sent.

For everybody that I owe art to in the mail, my plan is to do it all on Friday.

I've got a couple of badges that should be finished by then, so I would like to get them all mailed on that same day.

Go check it out! I have been debating for awhile if I wanted to post it up here or not. Then I decided that I would, but I'm putting it under a different account to just make things a bit easier.

I don't have all my completed pages up yet. I'll probably finish up tonight because it actually seems to take a bit of time and going back and forth to link pages and whatnot.

Anyway, it's kind of furry... I suppose. It's just a retelling of the Japanese expedition to Antarctica that had to leave their team of huskies behind. A lot of people may know this story from 8 Below. It's crazy because it was based on true events. So, I decided to retell it from the dogs point of view... and to try to make it a bit more true to what could have really happened, instead of giving it the nice Disney flare.

Did anybody else watch this movie as a kid? I seriously don't understand why this hasn't turned into a cult classic like The Last Unicorn. I love how the dragons look and I love that they actually get into the science behind dragons. I need this on DVD dammit. It's been so many years since I've watched it.

MY LIFE AS A PARENT - totally unoriginal title... I know...



Now, I totally and completely understand that nobody will likely be interested in my blog about my parenting life. I learned from one post in the FA forums that most people in this community don't really care for children. The way I see it, you either do want children or you don't. Simple as that!

Anyway, like I said, for anybody that is interested, there is the link. Pretty much going to be covering my journey to start cloth diapering, making baby food and how I'm dealing with my three year old and 5 month old through their milestones.

I get so frustrated with myself. I don't understand why I get more critical of my art as I'm supposed to be "progressing with my skill". I miss the days when I was younger and I could do a piece of art and absolutely love it and adore it and think it was "the shit!" But now I can barely make it half way through a picture before I just want to rip it apart. Fortunately by the time I get to that point I just convince myself that it'll look fine when it's all done...

And I don't even know what the point of being so self critical is? It doesn't make me improve by any means. Generally it just makes me upset... /rant.

I obviously don't have anything better to post at this time x). I'm too tired right now to update my commission info and trade info so I figured I would just post a journal about my feelings.
