Gonna be working through it so I probably won't see many folks, but hey! I'm sure I'll spot a few of you in passing.

I'll be working so I probably won't see many folks, but still! It'll be nice to wonder around the halls and all again.

Posted 7 years agoThe weekend is over already?
Dang, I only blinked once.
Regardless, it was a lot of fun and I got the chance to bump into quite a few folks. Some might even confess to knowing me!
...
If they want to know where everything's buried, that is.
(Dun dun duuun)
But yeah, MFF is now crazybig at over 10K attendees. I'm a frequent Gencon goer so I'm used to 60K conventions and know how to push my way through crowds (also am not a small sort) so I had to rescue one or two friends from being trapped in a sea of people or adrift in the walkways. It's definitely a hiking convention these days, what with the Dealer's Den and artist's alley being centralized between three hotels.
If you ever get the chance to go, I recommend it.

Posted 7 years agoQuestions. Questions never change.
Where are you staying?
Hyatt! Scream the name whenever you’re performing four star quality kung fu!
What day are you getting there?
Thursday afternoon.
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
Randomly assorted types! Some sensible, some not…
How can I find you?
Randomly wandering about! I tend to prowl a lot at ‘cons, just to see what there is to see. Look for the weird old guy.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Not sure, to be honest. I’ll probably drop in on any that are being run by friends, and if there’s an inflation related one I may hang out n’ do my “back in mah day, durn kids, ooch the lumbago” schtick.
Are you attending any stage or public performances?
Unlikely! I am lazy.
Will you be suiting?
Nyet.
Do you draw?
Nope! I write on a cycle that’s best described with the term ‘glacial.’ Iiiiif you find me and say the magic word I may, possibly, just maybe, potentially, write something for you.
How old are you?
Probably old enough to be your legal parental unit!
How tall are you?
6' 1”. And a smidge.
Can I talk to you?
I’ll allow it!
Can I touch you?
Case by case basis!
Can I buy you drinks?
Considering the prices in RedBar, I shan’t say no!
Can I hug you?
Indubitably. This is what happens at a ‘con!
What’s your goal for the con this year?
Meet old friends, avoid anything to do with work, and generally meander! And possibly add to the commission sketchbook.
Are you nice?
Random. Bring a D6.
How long are you going?
Hanging ‘till Monday.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
“Hey, you!” “Seer-ut-aph? Sounds foreign…” Or just say hi, that works too.
Where will you be most of the time during the days?
Here, there, and over everywhere.
What/where will you be eating?
There are surprising amounts of food options reasonably close by, although many aren’t the cheapest. Playing it by ear!
Can I come with you for food/fun etc?
Outlook probable.
Can I take your picture?
Good heavens, why? You’ve got so many other interesting folks to photograph!

Back from MFF 2017
Posted 8 years agoNext year's theme is "Fly the Friendly Skies" is it? Hmm. *Considers*
But yes, another 'con, another "meet a ton of people five minutes before the end of the 'con on Sunday." It's weird how that works out; I stumbled across four people I didn't even know were at the convention/really enjoyed talking to all within the distance of three dealer's tables. Not that everything was boring on the other days, mind you. It just surprised me how many "it's you!" situations happened at the very last minute.
Met many folks -old and new- and did a looooot of walking about. Clearly the new boots were a sound investment! Checked out a plethora of fursuits and nosed through a ton of art. The convention center location upgrade was a welcome increase to the available space for the Dealers Room and the Artists alley, although the newly purchased computer system made registration more 'fun' than it needed to be. Standing in line for four hours on Friday required a couple days of recovery before some parts of my feet stopped cracking whenever I flexed 'em.
Now, off to enjoy my ConCrud.

Posted 8 years agoThink I'm gonna be cancelling all my Patreon placements that aren't up front about primarily being a tip jar. So much no actual delivery on tiers for every single one over the last few months. You'd think I'd be better at picking 'em, but apparently not!

Old!
Posted 8 years agoSo! Hit by another birthday a bit ago, which got me to thinking about the various online communities I inhabit and my interactions in ‘em.
Just wanted to say two things. First, thanks for putting up with my stupid ramblings and various weird interests over the years. Second, I’m getting up there in age and have been cutting back on my conversations with people waaay younger than me. Why? To be honest, you can do better than getting stuck in a rambling and incoherent discussion with me.
Go forth! Be free! Get off my #$*ing lawn!

Posted 9 years agoAnd a good convention was had by all! It was a busy MFF, with tons of people coming and going through what’s starting to become some really packed meeting/artist alley/display/art show locations. At this rate I expect MFF is going to start expanding into the main convention center instead of primarily centering itself in the Hyatt’s confines.
Conventions popping their seams. Someone’s probably got a thing for that.
Always a blast to meet up with folks, both prior acquaintances and new!

Actually it's pretty close, so the trip's nothing major.
Saw many familiar faces and met quite a few new ones. Missed a few folks, or only got to speak to them for a few moments, but such is life at a convention. The waves and whorls of the crowds, really. Unfortunately I was a big stupidhead and forgot my sketchbooks at home, so only a few prints were purchased. Figure I'll just spend the saved up funds on various stupid things. What, I need that 300 HP power buffer!
Thanks for putting up with me chatting with all y'all!

Where do rubbercats come from?
Posted 10 years agoIt's a question that comes up more than people might think, but the answer's always been hazy.
Until now!
Rubbercats, or at least snowmews, are caused by purple plastic kanagroos with too many containers of terribly shiny gel and a propensity for 'accidentally' splashing the stuff all over.

I'm helping, honest! Jade's totally thrilled with the situation. :)

MFF 2014
Posted 11 years agoI traveled, I hung out, I annoyed the heck out of folks!
It's been an entertaining few days, but all things come to an end and MFF is no exception. I drove down to Chicago Thursday evening and roomed with Geemo n' Jomo. Say that five times fast! After delivering a cargo of craft sodas to Gravewalker (black soda market!) I spent a bit of time renewing old acquaintances and making a few new ones. I'd name names, but pff! Not like they read this, and I'm lazy! Missed meeting more folks than I would have preferred, but perhaps next year.
Overall I'll give it a rubber stamping of approval. The business with having to evacuate the building Saturday evening due to a gas/chlorine issue was a mite stressful, and I hope I didn't overstay my welcome with a few groups. It can be challenging to gauge when one should wander off once a group of artists has started sketching in earnest.
Now to deal with the maudlin after-con moments. I'm a little bummed that I couldn't have stayed around until tomorrow, but work wasn't quiite that willing to let me keep on playing hooky.

MFF and stuff
Posted 11 years agoSorry I've been pretty quiet of late on this account. Various things have been going on RL wise that I've allowed to pretty much wipe out every waking minute for quite some time. I'd like to say "I'm turning it all around" but that might turn out to be a lie. I am, however, going to work towards more activity here. We'll see how it goes.
Also!
Any of you nuts gonna be at MFF? I must make up my list of people to harass and/or possibly inflate.
